Sharing a shared drive

I have a desktop computer connected to a server with a fiber connection.  My laptop doesn't have a fiber card. Is there anyway for me to share the server drives from my desktop to my laptop computer?

Does the Server also have an Ethernet connection?
What Server is this, and what card and protocol are you using to talk to it?
Is the Fiber card Interface listed in:
System Preferences > Sharing?

  • Cannot access shared external hard drive with other mac accounts

I cannot access a shared external hard drive with other mac accounts (all accounts are on the same macbook Pro). The shared external drive is shared via time capsule and is connected (of course) in USB. I see well this external hard drive as a shared disk with my main account. Yes shared option has been activated with the Airport Utility .. but when I open other account these othe accounts can see the external drive but cannot access to its content that is flagged with a no way sign. Strangely enough when I close my main account and start opening a new session with one of the other account then fine I can access the external hard drive and its content .. BUT then it is from my main account than I cannot access its content the no way sign showing ..
Looks like only one account at a time can access the content of this SHARED external hard drive .. any one as an idea on how to really make it a shared hard drive so that all accounts on the same mac can also access it ? I am at my wit ends on this case. THANKS ..

Results of my enquiries at Apple Genius Bar .. the guys found the problem interesting. They've been unable to provide a fix neither to give any explanation as to the reason why. To be fair I was not much impressed by the technical level demonstrated ..
In the mean time I have found that if account no.1 can see the shared external drive content and in such case account no.2 (same Mac computer) cannot see its content (only the external HD with a no way sign) this account no.2 can UNMOUNT (by ejecting) this external HD from account 1 and then remount it (just clicking on the TC shared part in a finder window) and .. see and access its content ; whilst account no.1 cannot see its content anylonger. Unless it unmounts the shared external HD and remount it .. then account no.2 can see its content anylonger. This can goes on an on.
So eventually YES the TC can allow to share a USB external drive between several accounts and a same Mac .. BUT this require to unmount and remount EACH time the external drive is accessed from a "no.2 account". So OK to share files with seldom access but not practical in case of frequent access needed.
I just I have now to figure how iTunes can automatically unmount and remount a shared external HD when it needs to access one of this shared HD content from on time account no.1 and then next time from account no.2. May be I am asking too much ..

  • Anyone know why Adobe X & Adobe XI Crashes my shared network printer driver when printing a PDF

Anyone know why Adobe X & Adobe XI Crashes my shared network printer driver when printing on a domain, this only happens when I print a PDF.
I then have to restart the print spooler to get my printouts sent to the printer. I am using a Windows 7 32 & 64 bit environment on a domain. Users who aren't on the domain experience no issues and their printer drivers remain online and not grayed out.
When I print a PDF using Foxit Reader or Nitro PDF then all works fine, the moment I open a PDF using Adobe Reader X or XI then the shared network printer driver bombs out and I am back restarting the print spooler. If we roll back to Adobe 9 then we dont have any issues.
When you create a local printer driver all works fine, the problem is we don't encourage local printer drivers due to security.
We use Ricoh printer drivers, the MPC5501 PCL5C, driver version 1.2.0.0 with PDK version 12.65. We have also tried the PCL6 printer driver and Universal printer driver. All give the same result. The printer uses Winiprint Print processor using RAW as the default data type.
We have contacted Adobe Global Support who advised that they cannot assist with this query as this is on a Domain environment and we have to contact our IT Department.
We would really appreciate some professional help here to get a fix for this issue in order to address potential future occurance's

  • So slow listing network shared folders and drives.

    Hi!!
I'm reporting a very slow connection between my MacBook Pro 13" (snow leopard) and my MacPro 8 core (leopard). When I try to reach the macpro in finder (shared) passed 1 or 2 minutes until the system ask me user/pass, then show me the list of my shared folders and drives. Navigating through them is ok, ut when I return to the main list, SnowLeopard again waits 1 minutes or 2 to show. Before, the main list always remain there.
    Any help??

Same sort of problem here. Screen Sharing also doesn't work.
Pretty sure it's DNS, as if I temporarily remove my router from the equation (by, say, using a manual IP address instead of DHCP on the machines and leaving DNS blank) everything works and is instant - except of course for the internet. Put it back to DHCP (which uses the router for DNS) and it's slow again (and screen sharing doesn't work at all).
However, OpenDNS hasn't helped (probably because it's a private address range?)
The network is 192.168.0.0/24 with gateway and DNS server 192.168.0.1, which is a Draytek Vigor 2600G ADSL router.
This has only happened recently, I guess Snow Leopard or one of its updates has forced reverse DNS lookups for everything.
As I understand it, AFP is supposed to use Bonjour for hostnames ending in .local and bypass DNS altogether, but despite checking that they end in .local (an automatic thing) in System Preferences it doesn't seem to do this any more.
Any way to turn off these reverse DNS lookups?

  • Sharing External Hard Drive with Windows PC

I just purchased the Maxtor Turbo III. I can read/write to/from my PowerBook to the Maxtor, but I cannot even see the drive when it is attached to my PC. I'm assuming that it the drive has been formatted for OSX but that it needs to be reformatted for PC.
Is there a formating method that can be applied such that both Windows PC's and Macs can read and write to the drive?
    Thanks

  • Can't Find "DVD and CD Sharing" under Sharing

Hello, I got a new MacBook Air a week ago, and I couldn't find "DVD and CD Sharing" under sharing in system preferences.  Is there any way to make it appear? I am trying to share the CD from a Windows computer, and I installed this on my Windows computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL112
But there is still no DVD and CD sharing... Can somebody please tell me what to do? Thanks, I'd appreciate the help

    Desmond,
There is no option because there is no DVD on a MBair. You enable DVD sharing on another Mac or PC. You're telling that other system to share it's DVD drive. When it's enabled on another system, you'll see "remote disc" on your MBair's finder bar.
    Hope that helps..

  • Family sharing not sharing payment information

Family sharing not sharing payment information
We have two iPhones on iOS 8. Previously my Apple ID was logged into my wife's phone for iTunes and app purchases to share purchases (she's had her own apple is for iCloud all along) . I set up family sharing, on my phone first. I'm the organizer. I invited my wife, switched her Apple ID in settings in iTunes and app purchases to her own Apple ID. Both of us can see we are in the family in iCloud settings. But in the iTunes part it looks like normal, with seperate accounts. If we view purchase in the App Store both accounts are listed (and looks like both accounts show all the same apps that I've purchased previous to setting this up).
    Is that right?
More importantly when I go to make an iTunes purchase on my wife's phone, it doesn't try to use any shared payment. It wants to update HER credit card on her account.
My phone says the credit card is shared.
What setting have I missed here?
And I keep seeing this question asked but no clear answer. Will she loose access to any apps or music purchased before the family? They all show under her account now. Apple said somewhere that a legacy account would be allowed. I'm afraid to play too much with it after hearing people are getting locked out for a year.
    Thanks for any help!!

Your purchases will be charged against the Organizer's charge card on file, but they will reside under the Apple ID that you are purchasing them under (so if later, you were to leave Family Sharing, they would be "owned" by your Apple ID). If you have a gift card on file for your Apple ID, it will take the funds from the gift card first before going to the Organizer's charge card, but the entire set-up of Family Sharing is one that is designed to charge all purchases against the Organizer's card on file.
How is the set-up invasive, exactly? Family Sharing is primarily designed for families, especially ones with small children. The FAQs and ad pages are very clear about the fact that the Organizer pay for all purchases:

  • Java - Shared archive: sharing disabled for server vm ?

    Hi,
My mac is PowerMac G5(1.8Ghz) + leopard server 10.5.1.
    I have a question.
After typing *java -version*, the following messages are shown.
*Shared archive: sharing disabled for server vm*
    *java version "1.5.0_13"*
*Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)*
*Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode)*
What is *Shared archive: sharing disabled for server vm* ?
    Using my other macs, iMac(Intel 1.8GHz) and PowerBook G4(1.5GHz) + leopard client-10.5.1,
    the message is
    *java version "1.5.0_13"*
*Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)*
*Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode, sharing)*
    So, the difference is "sharing".
    Anyone know what it means?

I'm getting the same message. I'm intrigued. This would seem to be something to do with the new version of Java
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode, sharing)
I don't get the message when doing java -version, but I do get it when starting JBoss:
./run.sh: line 80: ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Invalid argument
run.sh: Could not set maximum file descriptor limit: unlimited

  • File Sharing & Printer Sharing Problem

I have an Intel Duo Core 20" and an older G4 Flat Panel iMac. Both were connected to my old airport extreme with few or no problems. File sharing, printer sharing etc. worked great with virtually no delays.
I recently purchased and installed the new Airport Extreme. Both computers connect to the network created with no problem, ie: the internet, however when I try to connect from the Duo Core to the G4 via the network for file sharing,or printer sharing, my Duo Core freezes. The file sharing settings for both computers are set appropriately as before. I have shut off file sharing for both, restarted, then turned on file sharing on both but the issue continues.
Any suggestions? I'm pretty 'Apple Savy' but not a 'genious'.

Sorry..one other note that may help in narrowing this down. When I go to print, the printer that is connected to the G4, shows up on the 'shared printers' list, however, it just never connects when selected. Just the 'beach ball of death'.

  • Equivalence of two statment  at point of view sharing in shared pool

    Hello !
    Please explain,
by what quantity of symbols hash-funtion defined what two statment is
equivalent (at point of view sharing in shared pool)
    Best regards,
    Paul

    Hi,
If i understood your question correctly, you want to know when two or more statements share same cursor( in library cache). The reasons if it can use following
    1) statement is prefectly identical.
    2) Use same optimizer env
    3) Use same user id who executes the statement
    4) Use same session parameters
    5) Use same bind datatype
    6) Use same bind data length
    7) Have same OPTIMIZER_MODE
    8) If cursor is not purged.
Further reasons can be found in V$SQL_SHARED_CURSOR, that why cursor was not shared.
    Hope this Helps

  • Sharing a shared network variable between two PC's connected to a network

Sharing a shared network variable between two PC's connected to a network
Surely this shouldn’t be so difficult! I have a little LabVIEW program running in the background of PC1. The exe’s task is to collect and send OPC variables held on a SCADA system and convert them to shared network variables (as I thought that they would be easy to share over a network, easier than the nasty OPC and DCOM issues). I have PC2 which runs measurement studio and I have created a nice test VB program which either writes or reads the network variables which are on PC1. The PC1 collection software is working perfectly and when I change the values on the SCADA system I can see the network variable change on ‘NI Distributed System Manager’. I When I look at ‘NI Distributed System Manager’ on PC2 I can’t see PC1 on the list and when I use the basic measurement studio code below to read the network variable it times out at the TestVariable.connect() line.
