Sharing iCal two ways

I'm successfully sharing my iCal calendars with my wife via iCloud.  Her own calendars won't share back with my iCal through her own iCloud account (her calendar IS logged in to her own account and not mine). Get message "You can't share your calendar with yourself"... which I don't think I'm trying to do.... help?

Right, seems the answer is 'Not really'. You can publish an ical calendar - but that is read only.
Which is really quite terrible. Not what we expect from an apple solution.
2 adults with 2 iphones can share one life and one mac - why can't we build a shared calendar?
BUT.........
There is an alternative that isn't TOOOO hard to set up.
Google calendars will sync with ical, so if you both have gmail addresses you can create a calendar you can share in iCal.
It's a bit faffy but not too taxing
1 open your gmail and set up a calendar
2. look under My calendars/settings
/share this calendar
and add the gmail address of your sharee
select "make changes"
this means they can add to it when they accept the invitation.
3. go to the first tab and select
/calendar details
look for
/Calendar Address: ICAL
copy this address and mail it to the new user.
when they log in they can then use that ical url to add to their calendar list.
Phew...
This may not be the exact way to do it, and some steps may be superflous - but i now have a shared calendar between 2 people's ical diaries on one mac and visible on two separate iphones as a google calendar (the iphone ical however will only update when you sync)
Boo:
1. having to use googlecal to set up or edit events - iCal will treat the shared calendar as 'read only'
2. iphone ical not updating automatically - you need to use the calendar in google to see if any new dates have been added since your last sync
Yay:
1. as its google - it will ACTIVELY share any new events on your iphone - at least in the google calendar (see 2)
So - all in all, a flawed 'pc-style' workaround sticking out conspicuously in an otherwise 'apple standard' experience.
At the moment it seems google calendars are a better bet than ical - this will not do.
Apple! Deal with it please - shared calendars between users first - then you can worry about 'push' updating later.

  • ICal two way sync by CALDEV?

    Hi I've set my google account up to sync with my iCal but I can't see that it is syncing with google calendar, but google calendar is syncing with it. If that makes sense. It's really important that I get the two way sync so I can get my calendar on my phone!
    Help!!!!!

    Hi,
    In iCal's Preferences, Accounts tab, when you select the account. What does it say for the 'Refresh calendars:' option?
    Best wishes

  • ICal two-way syncing snafu

    Since updating to 10.4.7 I have lost 2-way iCal syncing with my Zire 21. What I enter in iCal does not appear on the Zire, but the reverse works (anything entered in the Palm calendar syncs to iCal). I have had a functional set-up for years. Occasional glitches have required Hot Sync application support conduit folders permission resets (which did not help today). In iSync the Zire appears & calendars is checked - I did notice that the "Turn on [user] synchronization" is checked but greayed out (if that's any clue).
    Any help/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

    I have solved my own problem by trashing iCal, iSync & Palm preferences & rebooting.

  • Can I add a two way trusted but in different forest domain to My existing Lync 2013 Topology !

    HI !
    We have an installed Lync 2013 Std Edt. setup and its working perfectly for one domain. Our network infrastructure ( LAN ) is being shared with our sister company. They have their own forest and domain and a two ways trust relationship with our domain. I
    want to add them in our Lync 2013 topology, is it possible ?? if yes, thn what are the requirements and which changes i need to consider.
    Response from experts would be greatly appreciated.

    Yes, You must establish a two-way trust between the central forest and user forests to enable distribution group expansion when groups from user forests are synchronized as contacts to the central forest.
    Also you can refer below link

  • Configuring SMTP Namespace Sharing between two Exchange Forests on the same LAN

    Hi guys, really hoping that someone can help me with configuring SMTP Namespace Sharing between two Exchange Forests on the same LAN.
    Basically, I have created a new forest and installed a new exchange organisation in this forest.  Both forests are located on the same IP subnet and a two way trust has been created between the forests.  Federated sharing has also been configured.
    I can use ADMT to migrate the user and computer accounts to the new forest and also migrate test mailboxes over.  Ideally, I want to be able to do the mailbox migrations in stages so will need to be able to have mail flowing between the two forests.
    I have read over the following article (http://ibrahimnore.wordpress.com/2012/09/06/configuring-smtp-namespace-sharing-between-two-exchange-forests-part-2/)
    which is good but it's demonstrating over the internet, can anybody advise how this can be achieved on the local LAN?
    Any help greatly appreciated :-)

    Hi Gilliano,
    Thanks for correct link. I must say this is a very good article indeed, I read the entire article and if you go to the 3rd part of this article, please note the text "DOMAINC.COM is configured as Internal Relay Accepted Domain on both the domains"
    This is exactly what I asked you to check. Personally, I understand the method described in this article will work but its very complex to manage and administer, while the easiest option is to configure internal relay at the first place and no need to make
    so many DNS changes and customizations to your environment.
    The solution really depends on what your requirement is - Since you mentioned that you are migrating stuff over from source to destination - I feel this article is too complex for your situation and not really worth (for your requirement). The setup described
    in the article is an excellent choice if you are planning to keep both forests alive for longer duration due to several reasons like compliance or company mergers and so on...
    please let me know if my explanation is not clear enough.. we can even even have a one-on-one email conversation too!
    All the best!
    Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. Regards, Siva

  • Two way SSL issue in weblogic

    Hi All,
    we have enabled 2 way SSL in weblogic, we have one Admin Server and one managed (soa) server version 11.1.1.5
    steps we have followed:
    we have imported identity certificate and key file to a custom identity store
    improted trust certificates to a custom trust keystore
    in weblogic consile: soa_server1-> keystires : we have updated custom identity and trust details
    in weblogic consile: soa_server1-> ssl - we have updated required custom identity details and selected " Client Certs Requested And Enforced" for Two Way Client Cert Behavior.
    but while testing our process we are getting below error:
    we have tried openssl to test the connectivity but not sure about the output, is there any way to trace the SSL connection?
    any input will be really helpful.

  • File Sharing creamed two Macs

    How we creamed two Macs running Leopard, and how we got them back.
    My husband got a new early 2008 MacPro and gave me his iMac. Initially we tried to use the Migration Assistant to move his data, but that hung, and caused us to have to start over. Then we moved over mail and other files, booting the iMac in transfer mode. But, after the majority of the data was moved, I wanted to move the iMac to a different room. So, I had the bright idea to share the Macintosh HD on the iMac, so he could see what applications he used to have, and move over any data files he needed. For some reason, I also decided to share the MacPro HD. The share access was read only.
    Then I read that it was not a good idea to share the HD, as someone coming in over the Internet could gain access. We do have a router, but I like to be safe. So, I took the sharing off the iMac. I unclicked sharing, and removed "Everyone" from the sharing and permissions. I put the iMac to sleep that night, and it woke up fine the next day. I did notice the printer wasn't working, and the scanner, but thought it was something I did not understand about Macs. So, thinking everything was okay, I did the same thing to his machine.
    He came in and immediately noticed some USB devices had been dropped, so rebooted. Or tried to. The MacPro would not reboot. About this time, I tried to run Repair Disk Permissions on the iMac and it hung for over an hour. We called Apple Support on the MacPro. They had us try resetting the pram and several other things and nothing worked. Then they told us to do an archive and restore. This has never worked for us. We had previously tried it many times with the iMac (later zeroed the disk and all was fine from then on). The support person knew we had a disk clone about 4 days old and Time Machine, but did not suggest using them. When the archive and restore failed, we went to Time Machine. We did not do it in the most efficient manner, but did get it done, and everything now appears to be fine, except, of course, we still have file sharing on both the Mac HDs. * And the Apple Support person insisted that changing the file sharing could NOT have caused this problem. Said he had many customers do it. This was the only thing we had done, and for both machines to fail in almost the same way...we are SURE it was the file sharing.
    I also ordered a new external firewire disk drive so that I would have a clone as well as Time Machine. I have also turned on the firewall.
    If someone has had the same problem, and solved it, I could try it on the clone.
    The morals to this story: 1) if you get a new Mac, and need to transfer data, don't be in too big a hurry to give up transfer mode 2) Don't share your HardDisk, or if you do, don't unshare it 3) Have a plan restore plan in place - know how you are going to use Time Machine to recover from a catastrophic failure 4) Use Time Machine, it is wonderful!

    HI Alex are you
    sharing these two MACS over ETHERNET , WIFI, BTooth , FWire or other?
    using the default AFP or possible SMB/CIFS (wondoze fs) to share. You would have had to specifiy this.
    can you log into the users on each of the MACs individually - resolve that you access is correct
    By default if each mac's users  that you need are SHARED theough their individual SYSTEM PREFERENCES/SHARING/ FILE SHARING = ON, then they will appear vua BONJOUR (.local) on the local LAN and in each othes FINDER. You should see it also in the OSX 10.5.8 systems's finder.
    If the above is true, each mac should be able to DROP items in the other mac users on the others HOST's PUBLIC/Drop Box folder in their home directory  (~/Public/Drop Box). There is no need to log into each others user. Simply drop the objects in to the others PUBLIC/Drop Box folder
    This works simply and is also no need to go to any extremes to set up.
    That user can then access it in r/w mode.
    Anyway post back on the above. Lts see if we can resolve it.
    Post your results for others to see.

  • Create a two-way link (using AppleScript?) in Numbers '09

    We are migrating to iWork '09 for our business needs and seek an Applescript expert to advise us as follows.
    Our team has successfully used VBA in Excel for Mac 2004 to "two-way link" two cells in differing spreadsheets such that anything entered in cell 1 shows up in cell 2 and vice versa. However, neither Excel for Mac 2008 (which most of our company uses) nor Numbers supports VBA, and Numbers seems like the best overall app to use IF we can get two cells to link as described. Typical formulas do not work as a cell cannot be both an input and an output cell.
    Please advise or help!
    Thank you,
    Reos Partners

    Thank you Yvan. We are grateful for your lengthy response and your suggested script. There are a few things to clarify before we can take a next step with that script.
    1. We are planning to have not just two documents, but many documents. When we share these Numbers documents on a network drive or Dropbox, the entire setup will become a project management tool. We will have a "master" document as well as "project-specific" documents in this setup, all linked together by the script or scripts in question and housed in different folders.
    I really dislike working with documents stored on a network.
    It's more safe to work with a local file and store it on the network when it's OK.
    The "master" document will allow the general manager to see and enter data that shows up in "project-specific" documents. On the other hand, data entered in specific cells in the "project-specific" documents will show up in the manager's "master."
    If I understand well,
    rangeA of cells of the 'master' doc are shared with document A
    rangeB of cells of the 'master' doc are shared with document B
    rangeZ of cells of the 'master' doc are shared with document Z
    as well as
    rangeA of cells of document A are shared with the 'master' doc
    rangeB of cells of the document B are shared with the 'master' doc
    rangeZ of cells of the document Z are shared with the 'master' doc
    It's important that this functionality operate not only with open documents; this should be able to function also when only one of the linked documents, master or otherwise, is in use. Is that possible?
    It would require that the script is aware of the exact location of every document.
    2. We understand the limitation you describe: either a predefined (hardcoded) cell in the script OR the same location in the target document.
    3. Once we have a script that performs as described above, we actually don't know what to do with it: we're brand new to Applescript but have used Macs for many years. Given our unfamiliarity with the use of such scripts, please advise, or point us to a resource: then what? How is such a script applied to a Numbers document or a series of documents? Or do we set it up such that it always runs when Numbers runs, and if so, how? What is the procedure?
    Using a script running in the background would not be safe to capture cells selection.
    I thought that I was clear when I wrote:
    +Given two open documents whose names are defined by the property theDocs,+
    +enter a value in a cell on one of them.+
    +With the cell selected, call the script.+
    +It will copy the entered value in the same cell of the other document.+
    In the original script, when one script is filled and selected,
    it's your duty to call the script.
    --[SCRIPT]
    The embedded properties describe a master document
    and several subscriber documents.
    One describe the ranges of cells dedicated to each subscriber.
    These ranges are of this format: {topRow, leftColumn, bottomRow, rightColumn}
    In the open document, fill the range of cells dedicated to one document.
    Select this range.
    Call the script.
    It will copy the selected range in the same range of the target document.

  • Help With Ora-19046:Out-of-line table cannot be shared by two top-level tab

    Hi!
    My tutor asked me to store and query the xml files in a "native" way in xml db. First I tried to register the schemas on which those xml files are based. There are about 30 of schemas asscociated with each other, and I have to use "FORCE" to register them , like this:
    BEGIN
    DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.registerSchema(
    'http://www.isotc211.org/gmd/metadataEntity.xsd',
    bfilename('ISOGMD', 'metadataEntity.xsd'),
    TRUE,
    TRUE,
    FALSE,
    TRUE,
    TRUE);
    END;
    Then no tables are created automaticly. And when I wanted to create a XML table based on thses schemas manually, it proped the error: ORA-19046:Out-of-line table cannot be shared by two top-level tab. This has confused me for about a week. Does anyone know what's wrong with the registration? Waiting eagerly on line! Thanks!

    First of all, i create a "filename.txt" that contains all my schemas' names. the names are:
    acquisitionInformation.xsd
    applicationSchema.xsd
    basicTypes.xsd
    catalogues.xsd
    citation.xsd
    codelistItem.xsd
    constraints.xsd
    temporalTopology.xsd
    topology.xsd
    units.xsd
    uomItem.xsd
    valueObjects.xsd
    xlinks.xsd
    there are 72 schemas. Then I register them using "force":
    GRANT EXECUTE ON utl_file to fld;
    create table test (
    fld1 VARCHAR2(50));
    declare
    isto_file utl_file.file_type;
    fp_buffer varchar2(4000);
    begin
    isto_file := utl_file.fopen('MYXMLDIR', 'filename.txt', 'R');
    loop
    begin
    utl_file.get_line (isto_file , fp_buffer );
    insert into test values(fp_buffer);
    Exception
    when no_data_found then
    exit;
    end;
    end loop;
    utl_file.fclose(isto_file);
    end;
    declare
    cursor my_cursor is select fld1 from test;
    v_name varchar2(50);
    begin
    open my_cursor;
    loop
    fetch my_cursor into v_name;
    dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema(
    schemaurl=>v_name,
    schemadoc=>bfilename('MYXMLDIR',v_name),
    local=>TRUE,
    gentables=>true,
    force=>true,
    csid=>nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8')
    exit when my_cursor%NOTFOUND;
    end loop;
    close my_cursor;
    end;
    at last, when I check the types generated during registration, I found that only a small number of types are automatically generated. When I try to create table manually ( based on certain element of one schema), it props errors, sometimes "31079. 00000 - "unable to resolve reference to %s \"%s\"" ", sometimes other errors.
    If I manually register them one by one from the base schema, then the registeration fail at some point. this is the script:
    BEGIN
    DBMS_XMLSCHEMA.registerSchema(
    'geometryAggregates.xsd',
    bfilename('XSD', 'geometryAggregates.xsd'),
    TRUE,
    TRUE,
    FALSE,
    TRUE);
    END;
    ERRORS
    22881. 00000 - "dangling REF"
    Is that something wrong with my schemas? I wonder how can i paste them here. there are 72 files.......

  • Are there any security risks in two-way trusts?

    Hello!
    Can anybody enumerate security risks two-way trusts have? Security holes?
    I mean two-way trusts between two domains from different forests Windows 2003\2008.
    Thank you for any info.

    Hi,
    There are two potential threats to interforest trust relationships in Windows Server 2003 :
    1: Attack on trusting forest by malicious user in a trusted forest :
    A malicious user with administrative credentials who is located in a trusted forest could monitor network authentication requests from the trusting forest to obtain the security ID (SID) information of a user who has full access to resources in the trusting
    forest, such as a Domain or Enterprise Administrator. SID filtering is set on all trusts by default to help prevent malicious users from succeeding with this form of attack
    2: Attack on shared resources in a trusting forest by malicious users in another organization’s forest :
    Creating an external or forest trust between two forests essentially provides a pathway for authentications to travel from the trusted forest to the trusting forest. While this action by itself does not necessarily create a threat to either forest, because
    it allows all secured communications to occur over the pathway, it creates a larger surface of attack for any malicious user located in a trusted forest. Selective authentication can be set on interforest trusts to help minimize this attack surface area.
    For more info , Please refer :
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755321(v=ws.10).aspx
    Though the forest mentioned is on win 2003, this article applies to Win 2008,2008R2 forest environment as well.
    Please revert in case of any queries

  • Calender two-way sync

    Hi,
    Do we not have two-way sync for ical? Appointments made on the iphone are not x-fered to the computer and then erased from iphone. Anybody have a different outcome??

    They are transferred to iCal on your computer when you sync the iPhone - there is a setting as to which calendar unassigned appointments should be put into.
    Why would you want the appointments to be deleted from your iPhone once they have been synced with your computer? I think the purpose it to have your calendar on your phone and on your computer. It doesn't take up a whole lot of space on the phone, so you shouldn't have a lot to worry about.
    I really don't know how you would be able to sync the calendar without keeping the appointments on your phone. One possibility - don't categorize any appointments if you enter them onto your calendar via your iPhone. Then, when you set the sync settings, do not sync whatever calendar uncategorized appointments are placed into.

  • Help with getting Web Start working with two-way SSL

    I have successfully transferred data (myclient.jnlp) utilizing web browsers (IE and Mozilla) from my web server (which is set up for two-way SSL "CLIENT-CERT" required) after using the browser's utility to "import" my client-side cert (in .p12 format).
    After the browser connects and downloads the "myclient.jnlp" contents and places it in a temporary file, it then kicks off the javaws process with the temporary file as a parameter. The first thing javaws does is utilize the codebase and href values (found in the temporary file) to make a "GET" call to the server for the "myclient.jnlp" file (again).
    However, this fails (with a SSL handshake error) since javaws uses a different keystore than IE - the server does not receive the client-side cert. I have imported the root CA and the client cert (in .pem format) into the $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/security/cacerts file using the keytool command but alas my server still indicates a lack of a client-side cert.
    Has anyone else tried this and got it working?

    Hi Richard,
    Indeed it appears that the 1.5 version will have more built-in capability for client certs. It has the look of the IE browser import capability. Unfortunately, I am stuck with having to utilize 1.4.2 for the time being. Since I have posted my original message I have found more information but have yet to get it all working. The truststore in javaws 1.4.2 does have a default (the 1.4.2 jre's cacert file - stragely enough not the same one that gets updated when you import the root CA! - but this has been noted in many other threads). The javaws keystore does not have a default and I have tried, to no avail yet, to utilize some command line parameters, see http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/security/jsse/JSSERefGuide.html#Customization - to get my client cert "available" and recognized by javaws.
    With the help of some debug flags here is the output on my javaws "output" log - all seems to go well up to the point of the client's Certificate chain (which appears to be empty), after the ServerHelloDone :
    trustStore is: C:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\jre\lib\security\cacerts
    trustStore type is : jks
    init truststore
    adding as trusted cert:
    snipped all the regular trusted certs, left my root CA as proof it is recognized...

  • Two-way SSL: Private key is incorrectly read if the charset is set to UTF8

    Looks like PEMInputStream and other related classes assumes the application charset
    "iso81", but if the charset is something else, then "java.security.KeyManagementException"
    is thrown.
    We have everything setup and two-way ssl works when the encoding is not set. but
    brakes if the encoding is UTF8.
    WLS 7.0
    OS - HP-UX
    Is there any other workaround (not setting UTF8 is not a solution, ours is a WW
    app).
    Thanks

    I would suggest posting this to the security newsgroup.

  • How can I allow multiple users to edit a single shared iCal calendar?

    Is it possible to allow multiple users to edit a single shared iCal calendar? I also want to provide different permissions to those users. Is this possible through .MAC? Is it possible on Mac OSX Server?

    I would like 2 agenda synced through .Mac but it does not work.
    I have 2 computers and 2 laptops. A very simple agenda with 3 calenders. Myself my partner and the office calender. I want to publish my calender and that of my partner. The office calender I would like to sync so that we can change the office calender at any location.
    I set up sync only for iCall and have a .Mac account. When I change anything on any of the calenders in iCall nothing happens on any of my other locations. Even though the locations are registered as synced. I can see the sync wheel turning but at the end of it the calenders are not synced.
    At this moment I fully understand the publish and unpublished calenders but have no clue what so ever what syncing does for iCall. There seems to be no functionality to it. It does not transport any calender info over .Mac. There is no visable check to see what is happening and the process of syncing is not transperent. Lots of my friends go to me for advise on Apple issues but as far as sync wether iCall or Addressbook I always tell them sync does not work and I have no clue why others have it working. I haven't met any people here in Holland either that got in working. I suppose with iCall you have to get third party software to share calenders editable calenders. Really hopeless situation, wish Apple would just have a manual stating what sync can do and what it can not. Hours wasted on this issue trying to get it to work.
    Hope anyone here can help out.
