Sharing jars across different virtual machines

Hello,
I'm developing couple of applications using a java library (.jar). Both applications run fine in their own virtual machine and things are fine.
However, i'm assuming that the library (although is being shared) is being linked into the byte code (generated by the compiler) and there by increasing the memory overhead of the application.
Is there anyway to actually share this library in JRE (just like .so files in c,c++)?

There was talk at one time about using shared memory for classes, possibly even an implementation, but it seems to have been 'de-emphasized'.Is this one of the reasons as to why Java was never considered for embedded platforms?
I can't imagine the pain of static linking, in terms of memory usage and effort to rebuild applications.

  • Sharing music across different accounts on the same PC

    Hi,
I've got an iPod Classic with 12G of music, all from CD's. It is on iTunes on my account on my PC. I had a 8G iTouch for Xmas. I have opened another account on my PC and downloded iTunes. How can I transfer selected music from my original account to my new one?

I also don't understand why you'd open another itunes store account. Now you are going to forever have to keep track of 2 login credentials, and deal with hassles that multiple accounts sometimes present.
You can share music between 2 windows user accounts using these directions. Just be forewarned, if you move things to a shared folder in Windows Explorer, your original itunes will lose the paths to the music. Move it to the shared folder using itunes consolidate command.

While redirecting I have to pass one string value to

    as follows:
    response.sendRedirect(ConfigService.getProperty("com.t

    "?userName=" + strCaymanUserName);
but this expoes the value in browser address bar but
i don't want to expose the value passed. I am
searching the way to pass the value internally
    without exposing.
so please tell me other way in which i can pass the
value to called JSP without usign QueryString.
I am using WebLogic 8.1 for deployments. Both
applications are deployed on same WebLogic instance.I think a big part of the problem is that you want the functionality of a web app to be available to others, but you've locked it up behind a UI.
I think this is one of the benefits of a service-oriented architecture. You start thinking about the system functionality apart from the UI. Your JSPs become just another client of the services you expose. Anyone can call those services, as long as they can see that service on their network.
When I've done this I've started with a Spring service interface that is completely separate from the view layer. Once I have that, I can expose it to any other client either with web services (not preferred) or Spring HTTP remoting (preferred due to its simplicity).

  • Sharing reports across different OBIEE installations

    Hello,
Is there a way to import/export reports from/to different OBIEE environments?
We developed a number of Answers reports, and would love to share them with our counterparts who have their own OBIEE installations. The problem is that our environments differ and our repositories differ as well (.rpd file). Some of us are running Windows, others are running Linux; some use Oracle, others SQL Server, or even Microsoft Access.
We tried copying the xml and corresponding .atr files from the catalog in one environment to the catalog in the other, but we quickly found out that the reports fail due to different configurations (missing tables, unknown users, problems with permissions, etc.)
Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

    Hello,
    Thank you for your response.
I am replying to my own original post now. You are right, I was asking for the impossible -- it was late on Friday, and I must have been really tired when I submitted my original post.
The problem I needed to solve was this. Someone gave me Microsoft Access database, the .rpd file and the .xml and .atr files for the Answers reports. My job was to make those reports run in my environment, which is Oracle on Linux. I have finally made it work, but I did have to make changes in the .rpd and add a TNS entry before this started to work. Since there was a change in the physical layer, I had to recreate the BM layer to generate the correct mappings. Then I was able to simply copy and paste the presentation layer from the .rpd that was given to me.
Again, thank you very much for your response.

  • Live Migrating Virtual Machines with Shared VHDx

I am facing problems when live migrating a Virtual Machine that is using Shared VHDx.  The Virtual Machine gets migrated that is the configuration gets migrated, but the Virtual Machine fails to start up and if manually tried, it fails too.
What is the method to to live migrate virtual machines that are using Shared VHDx.  Thanks in advance.

    Another couple of gotchas:
You cannot do host-level backups of the guest cluster.  This is the same as it always was.  You will have to install backup agents in the guest cluster nodes and back them up as if they were physical machines.
You cannot perform a hot-resize of the shared VHDX.  But you can hot-add more shared VHDX files to the clustered VMs.
You cannot Storage Live Migrate the shared VHDX file.  You can move the other VM files and perform normal Live Migration.
as Long as you have your shared VHDx on a SMB3 Share you also could have the Nodes of the Guest Cluster on different Hyper-V Hosts.

  • "This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible.  This host does not support Intel VT-x"

Hi, I have installed vmware 5.5 hypervisor on hp G8 microserver. I have created one vm as windows 2008 R2. I have also install vmware workstation 11 on this vm. In this workstation when I tried to run vmware 5.5 hypervisor I come across "This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible.  This host does not support Intel VT-x" this statement. Which shows that the host machine does not support virtualization and for that you need to go in Bios and enable it but in present case as host machine is also a vm and you would not find much detail of Bios when you log into the Bios therefore, I am pretty much stuck here. I don't see any information in relation to this. Now my question is:
    1. Can we run ESXi inside a vm which is already sitting on ESXi?

I moved the discussion from VMware Workstation to Nested Virtualization which contains several hints on what's possible and what needs to be configured to make things work.

  • CE on virtual machine

    Hi experts,
I have installed the CE on virtual machine successfully. And i can open the page http://localhost:5000 from inside the virtual machine. Everything work fine in the virtual machine. But when i try to access the administration page from host system. It failed.
I can't open the page http://ip:50000.  But i can use PING command to ping the virtual machine successfully. And also can open the shared folder on the virtual machine. Both the virtual system and the host system are Windows XP SP2.
How can i access the page from hosting system? Thanks very much.
Edited by: Chris Xu on Jul 29, 2009 9:30 AM

    Hi Chris!
Maybe, you have to configure the Windows XP firewall of your virtual machine in that way that it allows for accessing the virtual machine on port 50000.

  • No external network access from virtual machine

    Hello:
I'm configuring a Windows Server 2012 Standard with Hyper-V and want to share a network card so that both the virtual machine and the host access a LAN using the same wire.
    HOST SYSTEM:
    OS: Windows Server 2012 Standard
    IP: 192.168.50.1
    VIRTUAL MACHINE: Windows XP
    IP: 192.168.50.4
    PHYSICAL SWITCH (CISCO):
    IP: 192.168.50.6
I've configured an external virtual switch, assigned to it a physical card and activated the sharing between host and virtual machine.
    With this configuration:
ping from HOST to VM and viceversa: OK
ping from HOST to REAL SWITCH: OK
ping from VM to REAL SWITCH: FAIL
If I configure the network card to work exclusively with the VM, it can access the external switch from the VM, but I lose any connection with the host.
I could solve the problem installing another physical card and using one for the host and one for the VM, but I can't get both working with the same card, even though they are in the same subnet, see each other, share files between VM and host... I'm not
trying to connect to the internet.
    Any idea? Thanks.

    Hello again,
    Sorry for the delay.
After system update, the problem has not been solved. The external switches do not limit the number of MACs, so this is not the problem either.
After updating the system I deleted the virtual switch and created it again. I also rebooted the VM and even the server. It just doesn't share the access: only the VM or the server can access to the net at the same time, even if both see each other all the
    time (server and VM).
Apart from that, every time I delete the virtual switch and create a new one, I reconfigure the VM as well (I delete the network card at the VM and create it again). When I do that I have to assign an IP address to the network card in the VM (no DHCP
installed, so this is normal), but I can use the same IP I was using before deleting the virtual switch. When I do so, a message appears saying the IP is used in a virtual network adapter, but this is hidden because it is not in use anymore. I haven't found
a way to see and delete these hidden network adapters either.
I think I'll install VMWare, because Hyper-V is more a problem than a solution.

  • Virtual machine front end / manager

Is there a way to have vm's assigned randomly on user login?  I have a pool of 5 vm's that I would like to offer to my users without assigning specific machines.  I just want the user to connect and get the next one that is available.  Is
    this easily accomplished?
    Thanks

    Hi shumph15,
    I agree with Brian :
"Users should not save files on a virtual machine that is in a virtual desktop pool. If a user logs
off from a virtual machine in a virtual desktop pool, the next time that the user logs on to the virtual desktop pool, the user might be connected to a different virtual machine in the virtual desktop pool."

    Hello All,

I have checked IP,DNS,Gateway and more each & everything is well.
    Pls suggest us.

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the same shared folder can be accessed by name, but can’t be accessed be IP address and asks for credentials.
Please try to enable the option below on the device which has shared folder:
Besides, check the Advanced Shring settings of shared folder and confrim that if there is any limitation settings.

  • I have a domain with 2 DCs (both virtual machines) in different Hyper-V Hosts. Dose this case make any influence on the time sync?

    As title,
I have a domain with 2 DCs (both virtual machines) in 2 different Hyper-V Hosts, and one of the perform as a PDC Emulator.
Dose this case make any influence on the time sync?
i.e. Both of the VMs sync with Hyper-V host, instead the other host should sync with the PDC Emulator?
I run w32tm command and get the following result:
    C:\Users\Administrator.DOMAIN8>w32tm /query /computer:dc8.domain8.local /source
    VM IC Time Synchronization Provider
    C:\Users\Administrator.DOMAIN8>w32tm /query /computer:hpvzh05.domain8.local /source
    VM IC Time Synchronization Provider
    HPVZH05.domain8.local works as PDC server.
How can I make DC8 sync with HPVZH05?

    Awesome!
It looks like your PDC is successfully pulling time from an external source.  DC8 is not longer pulling from Hyper-V so that is good.
When you set a client to pull from a source ( and in this case DC8 is pulling from NT5DS, which tells it to pull from the PDC), and it CAN'T pull from that source, it will default to Local CMOS Clock.  This is likely an easy fix.
    First, check connectivity:
    - Method one- Download Portqry and run this command: portqry -n HPVZH05 -p both -e 123 and see if the results say listening, or
    - Method two- Run this command from DC8: w32tm /stripchart /computer:HPVZH05
If you get any kind of error using method two, it's a connectivity issue.  (Maybe you have a firewall that's blocking access?)
The other cause of this, and probably more likely in your case, is that your PDC isn't properly advertising as a reliable time source, so DC8 isn't 'allowed' to pull from it.
Try running this command on your PDC: w32tm /config /reliable:yes
Then go restart time on your PDC, THEN DC8 again.  (net stop w32time & net start w32time)

  • Sharing music across accounts on one machine without moving files to Shared

I have read other posts about sharing iTunes among different accounts on one Mac, but so far I haven't solved my particular problem. Up until a couple of weeks ago - without reading any background material - I was just treating the two accounts as two different machines. I would open iTunes on one "source" account (which had music sharing enabled), switch to the second account, and be able to see the source account's music as a playlist, just as if it were being shared from a remote machine. I didn't have to worry at all about physically moving the files anywhere. As long as iTunes was open at the source account, I could play the source's music.
I've begun having a problem, though, recently, with the source account "cutting out," as if there were some kind of interference over a network. Which seems strange, given everything's all on the same machine.
I began reading the forums for answers, and did see the idea of moving the iTunes Music folder to users/Shared. The problem is that when I try to choose the the folder at the second account, the folder is blocked from access. I don't understand why this is so for the Shared folder.
If anyone has any ideas about A) the interference, and B) the blocked iTunes Music folder in users/Shared, I'll be very grateful.
    Rob

Sorry,I don't have any idea about the interference.
Your Shared folder might have the wrong owner. It should be 'system'.
Here's a picture of the 'Get Info' of my Shared folder:
You probably want to use the shared folder as described in the second method (not using Fast User Switching) in this article:

    Hello,
    that is a VMM issue.
If you did not deploy your virtual cluster from a VMM service template, VMM doesn't recognize the configuration.
Until MS got it fixed, you could use the workaround from system center central:

  • Is a Java Virtual Machine different from the Java Runtime Environment?

Ok I have heard people say they are running a java virtual machine, but how is that different from the Java Runtime Environment you install on any computer to run Java? Also if it is different what is the purpose of it and using commands like this:
    -Xms512m -Xmx1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC

I've noticed lately that at certain web pages a window
titled "Install on Demand" pops up and says that I
need to download "Java virtual machine." When I press
on the download button another window pops up that
says it was unable to download and that I should try
again or go to Windows Update to install the
component. When I do the Windows Update, at the
Windows Update website it states that there are no
updates available for my computer at this time. What
    should I do?
Thank you in advance.I am having the same problem. I downloaded the JVM download from the sun homepage... and I still can't use digichat applet.. anyone have a fix?
