Sharing one "Email account" between two Windows "user account" in a "Global Inbox"

Context: Two "windows user accounts" on a Windows XP PC, having the same email address. The "Local folder" is placed on a "All users" directory and acounts settings specify a POP server with a retention period of 30 days.
Problem: When User B ask for reception of messages, he received all messages already read by user B. (this probably due to separate popstate.dat).
On a previous PC two years ago, we do not had this dupplicate reading.
If you have a solution, could you also cover the Windows 7 case.
Regards
Dto75

I strongly suggest you get the whole profile in the same folder hierarchy before you even consider moving to windows 7.
Windows XP has Program File
Windows 7 has Program Files and Program Files (X86) your executable goes in the x86 one.
XP has applications data
Windows 7 has appdata
In windows XP Thunderbird's profile is in application data in windows 7 it is in appdata/roaming
If you open explorer the old locations appear to be there, but they will not work to locate Thunderbird's disparate parts of it's profile
And so the list goes on. Hence none of the locations you know will probably exist under windows 7 so if parts of the profile are pointing to locations that have changed, only grief awaits you.

  • Sharing One iPhoto Database Between Two Accounts

Below is a reply to a question I have regarding sharing photos with my wife on the same Mac. I would like for us both to able to upload, edit, and use photos from the same iPhoto database. Do all of the buggaboos listed in the reply below still apply?
    Thanks,

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Can I use two Windows User Accounts simultaneously?

    Hi
I use my pc for two businesses. Presently I have two user accounts that I have to switch bewteen by logging off each time - disconnecting my broadband.
Is it possible to run the two accounts simultaneously?

    Hi Grant,
You can use the Windows shortcut to have two or more user account active at the same time. The short cut for this is to press and hold the 'Windows' key on your keyboard and also press the 'L' key. This will then cause the Windows log-on screen to be displayed but without logging off the first user account.

  • Can you move files between two different user accounts in Time Capsule?

I copied a bunch of stuff from my old NAS (which used FAT) to Time Capsule under one user account... I then reformatted the NAS to HFS+ so I could just use it as a USB drive connected to the TC. Now I realized that I want to have one of those folders in another user directory. I cannot open two different sessions of the TC on the computer...at least I have not figured out how to do this. Is there a way to accomplish this without copying the folder to my computer, then copying it back to the other user directory? It is several gigs.

you can crop files from one account to another using the Public Dropbox which every user account has.  Log into the user that has the files you want to move, then drag the folder you want to the new users' dropbox:
I suggest a small scale test on a few files first before moving gigabytes of files.

  • Email transfer between two specific users fails

The email transfer two particular user fails. O(ne is assigned to POP3 and the other one to IMAP

So from your point of view:
    You get email from sender.
    you open it to read.
    you click on 'Reply'
Are the FROM and TO email addresses auto entered correctly?
you complete the email and click on 'Send' button.
A copy is placed in your 'Sent folder - confirm ?
you do not receive any message saying undelivered etc.
Do you have this issue with ant other email you send or is it only to that person ?
Do you get the same issue if you use 'Write' not 'Reply' and create a new message to the recipient?

  • Sharing one music library between two users on a mac

I want to set my wife up as a separate user on my mac and share my music file with her so we no longer mix up our iPhone apps. I don't want a second copy on my hard drive. I've tried one method on here HT1203 but it makes a second copy and fills up my hard drive. I do not want to share the whole media library just the music. There must be an easy way to use two iPhones with separate user ids on one Mac so we don't mix up our apps. I would have though that the great Apple would have just sorted this out when you plug in a different device.

First, back up your computer in case it does things you don't like.  I'm not testing this on my computer.
You'll have to deactivate iTunes managing your music (deselect in preferences having iTunes organize your music and copying it to your media folder when adding to iTunes).  Do the same for iTunes in her account.
Go to your iTunes folder and drag the music folder in Media to the Shared Users folder at the top level of the drive.  You may also need to get info on the music folder and change permissions on it and all enclosing items so she has permission to use it too.
It is just possible your copies of iTunes may track all the moves. It would be good if it does.  I know I have manage music disabled on my computer and iTunes is good at tracking when I move things around in Finder, unlike when iTunes is totally terrible at tracking when you let it manage music.  If it doesn't track then you may have to face rebuilding your libraries using the music in the new location.
You will have to come to an agreement in deleting music.  Fortunately in the manually manage mode you are using if you delete a track in your iTunes it will not delete the actual file.  You have to manually delete it in Finder which is good because she may still be using the file.
If one of you renames the file, it will affect both. Haven't tried this but in theory you would each retain your individual ratings and last played.
Let us know if it works.
Edit: Found this; compare with my concept piece above:
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203 - relocating iTunes' media folder to a shared area but leaving separate library files - extra tip at https://discussions.apple.com/message/17331189

  • Two Windows User Accounts, One iTunes?

First, I've done and read everything Apple says ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203 ) about setting up a single itunes account/library for multiple itunes users and it does not work. But maybe it's the way I import music to my itunes, so if anyone can help. I'd appreciate it.
I obviously have my computer set up with multiple users and my account is the administrator account and where itunes is currently working and full of music. I have installed itunes on another account and all I want to do is have that account be the same/mirror as the intunes under my account. However, what might be the issue is that I do not allow itunes to do anything for me, that means under the "advanced" tab in preferences, I deselected the options to allow iTunes to "keep itunes media folder organized" and "copy music to itunes." They are both inefficient and time consuming methods that result in disorganization and duplication of music, each of which requires more time than necessary to fix.
So, after moving the itunes media folder to a share folder as Apple states and point both itunes to that folder, the second user does not work.
Do I have to copy all mucis to itunes to get that to work? Is there something I am missing?

I posted the questions individually and got answers. Thank you Apple Discussion forums, and especially b noir.

  • Sharing ITunes files across multiple windows user accounts

How can my husband and I share our music files across two windows user accounts on the same computer.  As of now, when one of us buys new music, the other cant get it in their music library.  How do we get it to show up for both of us?

follow this link to support article. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203

  • Problems using one music library between two users

I followed to a T the instructions listed under here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203 . This was echoed by a Macworld help topic and after several attempts I was able to get the primary user account to recognise the new location of the music files in the Users/Shared folder. I then switched over to the other user account and again tried changing the location and still no luck.
I would like it that all the files are in one location but the two different user accounts for my wife and I maintain separate playlists and ratings so that she can sync her new nano and I can sync my older iPod photo separately.
I tried the alias deal, but it does not keep separate listings and playlists and because I synced my ipod photo first it only shows her nano as a playlist.
Please help, I'm at my wit's end.

Under her account I then started iTunes to do the same. I pointed the app to where the files could be found, but it never populates her library with the songs.
That's normal. Resetting the location of the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes preferences, by itself, only sets where future purchases and imports go. In and of itself it won't reset where iTunes looks for tracks already present. What you need to do now is use the Add To Library command in iTunes and select the iTunes Music library in it's new location. That will then get the tracks into iTunes.
Note for the future that iTunes has no "folder watching" feature, so any new tracks you add from one account will have to be manually added in the other. There is a third-party utility called Hazel that says it can watch a folder and add new content to iTunes automatically, but I haven't tried it myself.

  • How do I share one itunes account between two users on the same computer

How do I share one itunes account between two users on the same computer without taking up twice as much space on my hard drive?

You would need to move the itunes folder to a location that both users have permissions to access such as the Shared folder or any folder on the root level of the macintosh HD.
You can find instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203 This method allows you to share the content without sharing the same library.

  • Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?

    Using Windows 7, iphone 4.
I've read as many threads on these forums and as many kb's as I could find, but I sttill can't figure it out. I have 2 iPhones. Let's call them, "wife" and "hubby". I want to have two separate iTunes, one for each of the phones. Hubby is the Windoows User. I don't want to set up a different Windows User for wife.
Hubby was the original iPhone. When I plug it in, iTunes recognized it has Hubby's iPhone. Then I unplug Hubby and close iTunes. I plug in Wife but iTunes stll comes up with Hubby under Devices and syncs Hubby's iTunes to Wife's iphone.
I've tried using the shift key when I open iTunes to set up two separate .itl files to no avail.
Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?
    Thanks!

What happens if you rename the iPhone "Wife" when it shows up as "Hubby", then choose a different set of apps/playlists to sync with? iTunes is supposed to be able to manage multiple devices, each with their own selection of content. Perhaps you "restored" "Wife" with a backup from "Hubby" when you first set things up which is now causing confusion.
To create a new library press and hold down the shift key as you click the icon to start iTunes and keep holding shift until asked to choose or create a library. You need to use the same technique to switch back.

  • I am using Windows 8 with iTunes.  How do I manage iTunes with two different Windows User Accounts?

I have recently bought a laptop running Windows 8 and downloaded iTunes.  I subscribe to iTunes Match and have a large amount of purchased music and imported CDs, along with some films purchased from iTunes.
I have downloaded all of the music and the films to the laptop using iTunes Match when logged in under my User Account in Windows 8.  However, when we switch to my girlfriend's User Account, she can load up iTunes but all the music and films have the cloud symbol on them indicating that they need to be downloaded
Is is necessary to download everything to the computer twice (I can't really believe this is the answer) or are we missing something in terms of using iTunes with two different User Accounts?
    Thank you.

    Step 1
Create a new user account on your device. For Mac users, choose “System Preferences” from the Apple Menu and navigate to the “View” menu. Click on “Accounts” and select the “+” button to add a new user account to your machine. Edit the user information and grant any relevant privileges by following the on-screen prompts.
For Windows users, click on the Windows "Start" button, select “Control Panel” and choose “Add or Remove User Accounts.” A new window will open. Click “Create a New Account.” Name the account and set any relevant privileges by following the on-screen prompts.
    Step 2
Sign in to the new user account you created.
    Step 3
Open iTunes and click “Sign in.” Enter your Apple ID and password and log in.
    Step 4
Download purchases through the iTunes store. All files related to these purchases are stored under the separate user account, thus separating both iTunes accounts and their libraries on the same computer.
    Step 5
You can share music from both libraries by dragging your music library to a publicly accessible location on your computer. Click “Preferences” from the iTunes menu and deselect “Copy files to iTunes Media Library when adding to library file.” Add the shared folder to your library from the “File” menu.
    Tip
Create more than one library from the same user account by deselecting “Copy files to iTunes Media Library when adding to library file” from the “Preferences” menu. Add the files you want to iTunes by dragging and dropping or by opening from the “File” menu and sync your device to that library. Quit iTunes after the sync and reopen iTunes while holding the "Shift" key in Windows or the "Option" key on a Mac.

  • Sharing site definitions across windows user accounts

    Hello,
I'm trying to find out if there is a way to share the site definitions in dreamweaver across two different Windows user accounts. So that if one windows user makes changes to the site definition, the changes will be reflected in the other user's site definitions as well.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

Site definitions are usually user specific and you would normally export/import them between computers or user accounts.
What kind of repeated tweaks do you envision to the site definitions?

  • Home Sharing - Can you share between two accounts on the same computer?

I haven't been able to find any info about this, but does home sharing allow you to share files between to different user accounts on the same computer? I have been struggling with trying to do this for years, and I'm really hoping this solves my problem.

This is true in a sense; you have to use the same itunes account to activate home sharing. BUT, you don't need to use the same itunes account for general use.
    Example:
My computer and iPhone has one itunes account.
My wife's computer and iPhone have a totally separate account.
I turned on Home Sharing on both machines using one account name and ID - mine.
Now she can see and copy my music and apps, etc. I can see and copy her music, apps, etc.
However, when she goes to the iTunes store, she still can buy and so forth *on her own account*. Same with her iPhone. And I can still do the same as well on my own account on my machine and phone.
The only limitation seems to be updating apps: If you copy apps over to another machine using Home Sharing and install them on another phone running another account, it works great. But you can't seem to update those copied apps, unless you log in on the phone or the computer it syncs up to with the account it came from.
Aside from that, the apps still work even when the computer it was copied to and the phone it was synced to are active on ANOTHER account.
The key is the setup - for Home Sharing. That needs to be one account, but otherwise it's business as usual.

  • Sharing data between two separate user sessions

    Hi all!
I have been trawling my brain for a solution to this - any help will be appreciated!
I would like to create a single instance of a class but share that instance over more than one user session (two separate users but both running concurrently).
Just as you can pass data between sessions using ABAP memory - I would like to pass data (specifically an object reference) between two separate users that could even be logged in to two separate application servers...
Even a mini Client/server solution would suffice but I cannot figure one out!
    Is this possible?
Many thanks for your thoughts in advance...
    N

    Hello N K,
sorry thats not possible. Sharing a data item / object instance requires at least a common physical memory. As this is not guaranteed between different app. server this is technical not possible.
With release 640 ABAP offers the new feature Shared Objects. These mechanism allows access by different users and some propagation to differnt servers. There is an interesting article on the ABAP SDN homepage
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/developerareas/abap.sdn
For relases below more or less the database is the only chance to store data accross application servers (known to me). One exception might be the ENQUEUES which might (mis)used to store some Flags.
    Kind Regards
    Klaus
