Sharing the /home partition and general partition questions
Hello, I'm new to Arch, but have been using Linux for a few years (albeit still at a beginner level). I'm going to be reinstalling Arch on an old computer that has a 40GB main drive so dual boot a "operational" OS for day to day stuff that I want to make sure will be running well and then another OS that I can test on or just have for trying new distros. I also have an 80GB that I'll use for data (but I don't think I want that to be my home drive).
My question is: If I have two different installations of Arch, (or a second distribution) should they share the same /home partition? My thought is "no", but I didn't know.
Also, I'm planning on splitting the 40GB drive the following partitions. Do these make sense, or would there be a better way to do this?
5GB = / (OS #1)
14.5GB = /home (OS #1)
5GB = / (OS #2)
14.5GB = /home (OS #2)
1 GB = swap (both OSes)
I have an ancient P4 w/ 512 of RAM.
sharing /home drives would NOT be a good option in your case simply because you are going to use the 2nd OS as test/trials. Those other OSes may have different ways of storing config files etc which may lead to having a lot of junk to parse through. and if you ever use any configs for the Test OS, and they are somewhat in conflict with Arch - in any way - you might end up having to re-configure settings for your favorite apps in Arch.

Since you have 10GB more than I do, you can adjust accordingly and make partitions for your test OSes as well.

Problems with the home button and generally freezing and shutting down often.
I have had this iPad 2 for around 3 months. After about a month I noticed that I was having to press the home button multiple times in order to get it to respond. It is now at a stage where I have to press it as many as 12-13 times. It's won't do this every time but all day for maybe 3 out of 5 days the other times it works fine.
As well as this I have also had issues with the Internet shutting down, Skype going crazy, picture albums popping up and then vanishing and so on. I'm not a computer wiz but I would describe it as going crazy two or three times a day.
While I was in a shopping centre about a week ago I asked about the problems in an apple store. The man was very helpful and asked if I had it on me so he could look at it. Unfortunately I didn't be he said I could bring it back whenever I like and it would take around 30 mins for someone to check it out. He said most Likley they would just give me a new one and that would be that. So of course happy that it could be sorted I went home. Today I decided to drive the nearly two hours down to Brisbane after having a nightmare time trying to Skype my friend this morrning. I hot to the store and asked if it could be looked at only to be told I need an appointment. I showed the card that I had been given and explained what I had being told. To cut a long story short he agreed that I had been told that but said the assistant clearly didn't know what he was on about and that I should come back. I offered to wait but dispute the shop being more full of staff watching movies and downloading songs then actual customers I was basically denied any sort of help and told to call the office to arrange an appointment.
Sorry to rant! I just thought that apple were renowned for good service? 5 hours later I'm home with the same issues.
If anyone has had similar problem with the device or even customer service I would be intrested.
Regards,Me too! I had many bugs and returned my phone for a brand new one that did this the first time it was turned on at the Apple store. I was told it is a "software issue" and to "reboot the phone" if it continued to happen. It happens almost every time I try to use my phone. I've rebooted three times in a row some days. Nothing really seems to help. I keep waiting for an update.

Hi, Protools user here, using my G4MDD/Fw800 and Macbookpro, i like of course to have interchangability, if i can.
1- Whats the maximum size internal partition my G4 can read? one drive of 750gig?
2- Whats the maximum size Fw800 Drive my G4 can read? one drive of 750gig?
2a is it the same for fw400?
3- Are there 2 separate internal buses on my G4 MDD?
I just bought a 500 gig hitachi, IDE, popped it in an OWC fw800 case and was having errors dragging huge folders from my g4's internal 233gb drive to the Fw800 on the external bus
Hope everybody understands my questions. Appreciate some help.

There are two IDE/ATA Busses for hard drives in your Mirrored drive Doors G4. The front pair of drives are ATA/66, the rear two are ATA/100. The CD/DVD nest is supported by a separate ATA/33 Bus.
Drive size limits do not explain why you are getting errors. More information is needed. -

My home screen is gigantic… So much so that 1/200 of the normal screen display now fills up the entire screen. As a result, I cannot even see my keypad to enter in my passcode. I've tried a hard reset a few times (holding the home button and the on off button at the same time until the iPhone restarts). This has not resulted in any changes. Any ideas?

My iCloud is apparently 20gb and I have 6gb left. I'm attaching a screen shot. Any thoughts on how I can make available some more storage?
I Also wanted to get an enhanced quality Speech voice Alex, but it is saying I don't have enough Memory (I think it says memory because I can't read the message fully). Lastly, in your opinion does Grayscale really improve battery life above and beyond what can be achieved by closing out all apps etc. Thank you. -
MY screen continually freezes up. I've tried closing all apps that are open and have held down the home button and start button simultaneously but neither helped. Can someone out there help me?
Well the next couple of things to try would be to reset all settings, and if that doesn't help, it's probably time to restore the iOS software.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. That will take all settings on the iPad back to factory defaults. It will not delete anything and you will not lose any data, but you will have to enter all settings again ...WiFi passwords, enable Siri, select your wallpaper, adjust brightness, turn on location services and set privacy settings, etc, etc.

Should you decide to restore the iOS, it is extremely important that you back up first so that you can restore from the backup and then sync with iTunes afterward in order to restore all content back to the iPad. It is all covered in the kb article.
If you do not sync with iTunes, then I assume that you backup with iCloud. In that case you can erase the device in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings. Once again, backing up with I loud is I,operative before you do this so that you can restore from the iCloud backup after you erase the iPad and start over again with activation.

Question
I was on an online course website, logged in and working on an assignment. Suddenly the page disappeared and was not on the tabs either. I went to the home page and tried to log back in and it said I was already logged in on another browser window and if I proceeded to log in again the assignment I was working on would be ended and I would receive a zero. I can't locate the browser window that I was signed in on. Help...I don't want to get a zero, but don't know how to get back into the website under my original log in & get back to my half completed assignment.Hi,

I have a iPod touch 8GB 5.0.1 and my contacs my app store Are not on the home screen and my contacs .
So I go to restrictions and they say that they are ON so I reboot my iPod and he still the same thing.
So I restore my iPod from iTunes and iTunes say that this iPod cannot be restore and I do that on a MacBook pro and I do the second time on windows computer.
So I need help , I don't know what to do .
Thank you .The app, if not restricted, may be hidden in your folders. If you go to settings, general, reset, reset home screen layout, you can rule that out.

You can also restore from your iPod, by going to settings, general, reset, reset all content and settings, but make sure that you have created a backup beforehand.

How do I open a new FireFox browser window to the home page and url filled?
win 7 64-bit, firefox 5 open new window no url. When I have firefox open and open a new browser window, the new window does not open on the home page and no url is present in the address field. If I click on the favicon in the address field, the url of the current page will automatically fill in. The forward and backward arrow buttons remain disabled. In addition, links opened in a new window cause a new browser window to open, but the linked to website is not displayed in the new windows. What is displayed is a new window completely blank with no url in the address bar. I tried to include troubleshooting information by clicking on the copy to clipboard, but apparently the character count was exceeded.
I disabled all plug-ins and extensions. the problem has been resolved. Now I will enable each one individually to find out which one was the offender.

When I want to return to my home page after looking at a website I click on the home icon and it resets the page to my home page but also open a blak tab which i don't want.How can I stop this as I have too many tabs open and have to close all of them.
You may have an unwanted extension that is modifying sites (or the toolbar area). Try this:
Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that flush the tab?
Please report back on anything suspicious you find so others can learn about its bad behavior. -

How do I stop an app from waiting? I have tried to reboot by holding the home key and power button to power down. The app is still grayed out and waiting so it cannot be deleted. Also, I have tried to sync the apps from my laptop and tried downloading new appswith no success. Can you help? Thanks
If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
If that doesn't work:
• Log out of your iTunes store account. Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
• Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
• After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

I just got the new itunes and I can open itunes and see my music but whenI try and go to the itunes store it just loads to a white page. I try and refresh and go to the home page and nothing happens. I can sign into my account and the tabs for the itunes store pop up like they normally would when browsing the itunes store but when I click on one of them, it is a blank page. Is there a setting I need to change? Does it just take an extremely long time to load? Please help!!

Cursor Doesn't display in numeric right justified fields
We have an aplication that we deployed at a client. Normally the cursor blinks in the field that has focus. However, at this particular client the cursor doesn't show on numeric fields that are right justified. The user can type in the values though.
