Should EJB 3.0 classes store FKs as numeric ids or Objects?

Hi there,
I'm new to EJB 3.0 but a long time database developer. I am leery of the EJB method of maintaining FK relationships by storing an instance of the parent object in the child class instance (for bidirectional many-to-one). This seems like it would have a real performance disadvantage over just storing the parent id in the child and using the EntityManager to go find the parent if you need it. But this is just a gut feeling.
Does anyone know the performance advantages or disadvantages for storing FK relationship info as an id number or object in the child class?
Thanks!

Hi,
I think, here is a misunderstanding:
Suppose you have entity A which has a field of type entity B and both A and B are EJBs with CMP (Container Managed Persistence).
If you deploy these EJBs to a J2EE server, you will see that in the (automatically) created database table for EJB A only the PK of the EJB B is saved as a FK.
So the database mapping of the EJBs will indeed be as you would expected.
Does this answer your question?

  • For WebLogic 5.1, where should I put my class files for my JavaBeans?

    With JBuilder4, I have built an application with JSP and a few Java Beans (Those JavaBeans are instantiated in those JSP files). There are no EJBs. The package name is called 'onlinetrade'. I have tested the application on JBuilder's web server, it works pretty well.
    Now I am moving this application to WegLogic 5.1. I have encountered a problem with WebLogic 5.1
    and do not know where I should place my JavaBean class files --
    Originally, the JSP files for my application are in package path-- ..onlinetrade\jsp
    and the class files for my beans are in the package path -- ..onlinetrade\jsp\bean\*.class
    Now, with WebLogic 5.1,
    1) I have put my JSP files in
    C:\weblogic\myserver\public_html\onlinetrade\jsp
    2) I have created subdirectory and put my bean class files in
    C:\weblogic\myserver\classfiles\onlinetrade\jsp\bean
    When I started weblogic and the first page - login.jsp page can be up and accessed. But when I login and forward to another JSP page called 'controller.jsp', where a bean is instantiated, I got the following error
    Compilation of 'C:\weblogic\myserver\classfiles\jsp_servlet\_onlinetrade\_jsp\__controller.java' failed:
    C:\weblogic\myserver\classfiles\jsp_servlet\_onlinetrade\_jsp\__controller.java:210: cannot access jsp_servlet._onlinetrade._jsp.registerBean
    probably occurred due to an error in /onlinetrade/jsp/controller.jsp line 53:
    registerBean registerBeanInstance = new registerBean();
    I know the javac is working, and a java file is created upon the JSP page, but the problem is -- the bean class files cannot be found!!!
    Where should I create the package path and put my bean class file so that my JSP pages can pick them up?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

  • It should be interface or class ?

    Friends,
    I have a major entity in my application. That entity is, u can say, heart of the what application does.
    Actually, clients can open up a case with supplier and that case is my main entity.
    Now that case can be of any type out of some 7 types. And all of them have some data common say around 40% data is common. and remaining varies from type to type.
    Now, my problem is, this main entity class should have any interfact on the top to depict common methods ? I feel that, it should be an abstract class with these common methods being abstract methods. Well, we have abstract class also, but it is used to store only common variables, not methods. Moreover we have impl classes also.
    What you guys say ? Is there any design principle, which makes this interface must ??
    Thanks.

    Make it both. Follow the lead of the java.util.List and java.util.AbstractList.

  • EJB as startup class

    Hello there
    I wonder if I can use an EJB as sturtup class. It doesn't matter that sturtup
    class connect an EJB or kind of that, but can an EJB be used as startup class.
    If it's possible how should I deploy this EJB in Weblogic server?
    Should I use the deployment descriptor in such case?
    Thank you in advance

    No, only startup classes (which are not EJB) can be used.

  • WebLogic 11g EAR EJB Classpath and class loaders

    All,
    I have been having issues migrating Spring based EJB applications from OC4J to WebLogic 11g (10.3.1). I have been in communication with Oracle who has suggested a work around however I am keen to see if anyone else can suggest a solution.
    The application is dependant on stateless session EJB beans that communicate with a Spring managed service tier to perform the business logic and database access. PitchFork is used to inject the Spring managers into the EJB’s using the spring-ejb-jar.xml configuration file. Note originally I was using the SpringBeanAutowiringInterceptor however I could not get this to work. See WebLogic 11g and Spring beens injected into EJB for details.
    When the application is deployed packaging all the dependant jars within the APP-INF\lib folder I get a verity of errors from the following InvalidClassException, NoSuchMethodError, AbstractMethodError and IllegalArgumentException. I am using Spring 2.5.3 to match the supported WebLogic version. Note within the EAR application.xml the library-directory is set to APP-INF/lib. The issue appears to be Spring, PitchFork, commons-logging and aspectj libraries are being loaded form WebLogic and do not have visibility on jars within the application or have been modified when bundled for WebLogic. An example of this is the PitchFork jar within WebLogic has been changed excluding the spi package resulting in java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.springframework.jee.spi.PitchforkUtilsImpl errors.
    Moving the jars to the domain library path does not resolve any of the issues. I have been unable to successfully deploy the application picking up the application jars using the prefer-application-packages configuration.
    Oracle has advised me to deploy the libraries into the WebLogic system classpath by modifying the startWebLogic command to load the libraries into the classpath. I am concerned that modifying the system classpath will result in an unstable WebLogic server as I will be replacing modified jar files packages with WebLogic (such as PitchFork). This will also limit the applications that can be deployed within the server as each application must use the same libraries and versions (as the application ibraries are leing ignored).
    Has anyone else hit this issue and corrected it? Can anyone think of an alternative solution?
    Regards
    Neil

    Hi,
    I am in the process of updating the tracking bug# 331569 with copies of the eclipse EAR/WAR projects and the EAR for these scenarios. Here are some details on how I got past the 2nd CCE on the org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.PersistenceProvider class (not the javax one)
    https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=331569
    Essentially an SE persistence unit running both JPA 2.0 api and the 2.0 XSD schema work fine. I will next retest the EE case with variations of the 3 types of injection on the SSB or Servlet.
    Update: There are 3 (possibly 4) issues here (all of these may become obsolete when the next WLS version ships)Initially I got the same 2.0 schema error and the ClassCastException on org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.PersistenceProvider
    It turns out that my import of the 2 eclipse projects from my bug # 296271 for WebLogic 10.3.2.0 lost their facets(specifically the dynamic web facet) because I associated them with a different WebLogic 10.3.3.0. - this caused the CCE I was experiencing like Sri.
    Anyways, after creating an EAR/Web project combination from scratch in eclipse associated with the 10.3.3.0 instance - I predeployed/deployed/ran fine - even with the 2.0 schema - in SE bootstrap mode (no EE yet).
    Reproduction Procedure:
    redoing project from scratch as I noticed that the war was not at the root of the ear - it was a jar in the app-inf/lib dir - my imported eclipse project was not referenced correctly as a web module facet- create empty EAR and WAR project with references
    - download and open my EAR and WAR project code from bug # 296271
    https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=296271
    - do essentially all the steps in the page below (I paraphrase for re-verification)
    http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Development/JPA_2.0/weblogic#DI_1.1:_Alternative_3:_Application_Level_Shared_Library_-InUse
    - copy applicationService, entity and FrontController servlet code into new projects
    - create persistence.xml and MANIFEST.MF manifest in src\META-INF
    - update manifest
    Class-Path: APP-INF/lib/eclipselink.jar
    APP-INF/lib/javax.persistence_2.0.0.v200911041116.jar
    - copy both javax.persistence 2.0 and eclipselink 2.x jars to APP-INF/lib
    - change ordering of WebLogic library modules classpath reference (javax.persistence 1.0) to ear reference (2.0 version)
    - update web.xml with servlet tags
    - update weblogic.xml with new context root
    - make the persistence unit name the same in persistence.xml and ApplicationManagedService
    - update weblogic-application.xml with prefer-application-packages overrides
    <wls:prefer-application-packages>
    <wls:package-name>javax.persistence.*</wls:package-name>
    <wls:package-name>org.eclipse.persistence.*</wls:package-name>
    </wls:prefer-application-packages>
    - enable server redirect logging
    <!-- new for 10.3.3.0 http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/JPA/Logging#Server_Logging -->
    <property name="eclipselink.logging.logger" value="DefaultLogger"/>
    - start WebLogic 10.3.3.0
    - deploy (run on) server from eclipse or export ear to auto deploy directory
    1) JPA 2.0 XSD usage on 10.3.3.0
    - I reproduced this issue with a bad EAR
    - was able to use the 2.0 schema within the WAR-only application managed EAR

    Error instantiating the Persistence Provider class org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.PersistenceProvider of the PersistenceUnit example2: java.lang.ClassCastException: org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.PersistenceProvider

  • (261680070) Q SYNCH-11 How do my web service methods accees EJBs and java classes?

    A<SYNCH-11> How do my web service methods accees EJBs and java classes?
    A<SYNCH-11> It is simple to use java classes, just do it as you would ordinarily.
    The .jws file really contains a simple class so you can program with it in the same
    way that you would use a regular Java class.
    To use an EJB you can go and access it directly as you would with any EJB remote
    client (lookup home stub, create, etc) or if the EJB is deployed to WLS you can use
    a control to provide a very simple wrapper to the EJB. We will see this in detail
    on Thursday in the ADVC module.

    Futher information about the possibility of callback:
    It may be possible for a synchronous only web service (i.e. MS .net) to even paticipant
    in the callback functionality of asynchronous web services. If the client implements
    the appropriate methods for the callback but listens for them on a different port
    or binding than the SOAP request, then web service may be able to build a response
    if the client's "callback URL" is submitted as the beginning part of a conversation.
    Watch the BEA developer forum (http://dev2dev.bea.com) for more information about
    this approach and other tips and techniques for building web services.

    this is true.
    Does it means my async methods will only work with J2EE clients?
    A<SYNCH-03> I do not know the limitations of .net but let me point out that
    is very
    difficult to provide asynchronous web service method invocation (this is
    different
    from an asynchronous web service). HTTP as a general communication protocol
    is based
    on a request and response paradigm so your client libraries will mostly
    likely be
    expecting a response even if it is empty (check the asynchronous example
    from today
    to see that the start method still returns an empty response). You must
    distinguish
    this from the notion of an asynchronous web service which is a business
    operation
    that occurs on the server whose return value/result is not directly associated
    with
    building response to the client. An asynchronous web service can (and generally
    will)
    be started and stopped with web service operations that are invoked synchronously.
    Thus MS .net clients can still be client to WLS hosted web services.

    Hi,
    it looks like you have two different versions of the same class in the
    classpath. Your client is expecting version A, but the server is
    returning an instance of version B. Make sure that you only have one
    version of the class in your classpath. If you're starting the client as
    a separate app, also make sure that it's using the same classes as the
    server.
    Hope that helps,
    Nils

  • ER: Override Methods feature should detect anonymous inner class scope

    Hi,
    Given the following code:
    public class Class1 {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Thread t = new Thread() {
                // line 4
            t.start();
    }When the cursor is placed on line 4, activating the Override Method dialog (Source menu), should show Thread methods that I can override, in addition to Object methods. Currently only the method from class Object are being shown. The same treatment should also apply to local method inner classes. This happens with the latest 11g preview 3, and all previous versions.

    Hi,
    I'll file an ER

  • Where I should put the bean class?

    Hello,
    I am learning JSP. I want to know where I should put the bean class? Which directory should I put the bean class?
    note that I am using Tomcat 4.1

    I can't tell if you've got everything you need or not, but what you've shown looks right so far. Let me run down the necessities:
    In your JSP file:
    <%@ page import="aos.*" %>
    <%-- imports all of the classes in the "aos" package --%>
    In your Java file:
    package aos; // tells Java this is a package (you probably have this)
    Then, of course, you put the class file into the directories that you mentioned, ie, $CATALINA_HOME/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes/aos (forgive me if I use Unix-styled slashes; old habit, and shouldn't make any difference.)
    You may need to restart Tomcat. You have to restart it when you add certain directories, although I'm not sure exactly which ones. But it never hurts to just restart it anyway.

  • I cant find an app that should be on that should be on the app store, and when I click on the website (sky poker) and I click on "downland thee app on the app store" only a white page appear on app store.

    I cant find an app that should be on that should be on the app store, and when I click on the website (sky poker) and I click on "downland thee app on the app store" only a white page appear on app store.

    Well, I went to a Sky Poker website and find it it seems to be something related to playing poker online and the currency is measured in pounds. I do not see anywhere on the website where it tells me that I can download an iPhone app, and when I search the App Store (US) I do not see a listing their either. You may need to send their support a question/email and ask if they have something in the app store and what the name of it is.

  • Class type 022 is not defined for object for BATMAS

    Hi Experts,
    while creaitng the LSMW for batch classification,I faced the error during IDOC processing as "Class type 022 is not defined for object".I am using
    Business Object      BUS1001002
    Method               SAVEREPLICA
    Message Type         BATMAS
    Basic Type           BATMAS03
    Pleas guide how to resolve the error.
    Also ,as I intend to make LSMW for batch classifications.Is this the correct way.
    Please guide on this also.
    Regards.

    Hello Jass,
    Symptom
    The BATMAS03 basis type (message type BATMAS) /FB BAPI_BATCH_REPLICATE  cannot transfer any classification information. Please review note 1070634.
    First Option :
    You should first transfer the batmas and then the clfmas idoc.
    Second Option :
    You could create the batch together with classification. Normally the problem is the missing CUOBJ_BM in table MCH1. It is not necessary in all situations that the field have to be filled, but it can be in some cases (And it is better to store the right  information in the corresponding fields). Especially when you transfer batch/classification information in other system the field have to be filled.
    The way to create the batch TOGETHER with classification by using BATMAS IDOC is to set the following parameters correctly :-
    set E1BPBATCHCTRL-DOCLASSIFY to X and fill the segments with relevant classification information
    E1BP3060_ALLOCATION
    E1BP3060_VALUATION_CHAR
    E1BP3060_VALUATION_CURR
    E1BP3060_VALUATION_NUM
    In this case the field mch1-cuobj_bm should be filled with correct CUOBJ. You can also use function module BAPI_BATCH_SAVE_REPLICA to create batches together with classification.
    Hope this information helps
    Regards
    Amber
