Show Hidden Windows files on a Mac

Hi,
I have a folder that I have copied from Windows XP to Mac. The files in the folder were hidden when I copied on the mac. I can see the folder but cannot see the files in the folder. How do I see these files on my mac? It is frustrating as I have a few important files in that folder that I cannot view on my mac. Help please!!!

A couple of ways. One is to copy this script into the AppleScript Editor window and run it. It'll toggle hidden stuff on and off:
if (do shell script "defaults read com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles") is equal to "0" then
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1"
else
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 0"
end if
do shell script "killall Finder"
Another, is to use the chflags command to turn off the invisiblity flag. See http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11788354 for starters.

  • Looking for Windows files on a Mac

On my Macbook Pro OS X 10.9.4 Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR 3 when starting a existing project I get a message about a file the program is not able to load.
So it asks me to point the location. The question is as follows: Where is the file 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiers Pro 1.5\Presets\Textures\Business Title_7.tga'?
I'm using a Mac and when I search for the file it's not on my computer.
It's looking for a file in a curtain folder.
Could you give an advise what to do?

    Hello A.T. Romano,
I’m using Adobe Premiere Elements 12
    Version 12.1 (20140225.12.1.620828)
I get the message when opening an already made project in which I added a Title.
In the ones without a title I don’t get the message.
So it is something connected to the use of titles.
I used RedBulbs as a title.
When I click ‚Skip’ or Offline my project opens correctly and I don’t miss any media. Even the title part is OK.
I hope this describes the problem enough and hopefully you can give me some advise.
    Best regards,

What version of Premiere Elements are you using on your Mac computer?
    Do you ever get this
    Where is the file 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiers Pro 1.5\Presets\Textures\Business Title_7.tga'?
when you open a new project or do you get this message only when you go to open an existing project?
If only for existing projects, then please tell us if this existing project was created with title templates and/or Instant Movie themes.
    If so please detail.
If you click "Skip" to the "Where is the file....?" message, does your project open without problem? And if so, do you see any missing media
displays in the workspace? And if so where?
We will be watching for your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • How to view hidden window file in a memory card?

I am connecting a memory card to a mac
But i cant view the hidden files in it
    It is a window file
    Can anyone help ?=)

Symbian^3 currently has no way of looking at stored messages in the memory card. If you would like to access them, load the memory card back to your old phone and sync them to your PC via Ovi suite where these messages can be read on the program. You can move these to the C6-01 via Ovi Suite should you desire to do so.

  • Windows files on a Mac?

Will I damage my Windows files if I store them on a Mac?
I have noticed that when I copy Mac files to Windows, some ghost-like files are copied too. For example, apple.pdf as a main file would also have a ghost file apple.pdf that you see, but cannot open. The ghost file icon appears transparent, where the main file is a solid.
    Thank you!

Those ghost like files are probably just hidden files that you need not worry about. Your windows machine probably has 'view hidden files' selected in the explorer preferences.
I transfer files from Mac to Linux to Win XP in every possible combination and have never had a problem.

  • Windows files on a Mac Server

I have a Mac Mini running as a server. I would like to connect to the server with a PC running XP Pro. First, can this be done? Second, if it can what do I do to accomplish this?

Is it running Mac OS X Server, or just Mac OS X client?
If running Mac OS X Server, just start up the Windows sharing daemon via Server Admin, and use Workgroup Manager to define which directories should be shared.
If you're not using Mac OS X Server you can either edit the Samba configuration files by hand or get a copy of SharePoints which puts a GUI on the process.
Either way, once the server is running it should be a simple matter of telling the Windows machine to connect to the server at your Mac's IP address, typically via something like: smb://ip.address.of.mac/sharename

  • Running window files on a mac

so I downloaded an exe file for a game and need to be able to run it.   What's a good program to get to be able to run the program.

I use something called Wine. It's a cross-platform program that let's you run Windows programs on any OS. I used it in both OSX10.6 and OSX10.7 and it seems to work flawlessly. The genius behind it is that it's not like emulators or virtual machines and you don't need Windows installed. It's more like a translator between your Mac and the Windows program. To be honest I don't completely understand it but it definitely works. I'd suggest reading a bit about it at least. Just try googling WineHQ and their website should be at the top of the list. And the best part about it is that it's free and always will be. Hope I could help!

  • Can you see windows files on the mac side

Macbook pro is having bootup issues. Can the files on the windows (bootcamp) side be seen from the mac side?
Need to backup some files on the windows side and can not boot up.
    Thanks,
    zPeter

As Csound1 has stated, MacOS should have read only access to your Windows partitions, so as long as you haven't damaged the partitions too severely, you should be able to read the files, and therefore copy them off to another drive as a backup.
Since your system won't boot, only you can tell if the partition is damaged bad enough that the MacOS system can't access the data on that partition.

  • Help on Removing Hidden Windows Files

Hi - if you need to remove and reinstall Itunes, what at the hidden files from Windows that you also need to remove, and how do you do it? Thanks!

Perform a Thorough & Complete Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes/QuickTime
(Compiled from the collective wisdom of toonz and Da Gopha)
If you want to guarantee a successful upgrade and be proactive about minimizing potential install issues, do the following:
    1. Completely Backup your music and iTunes library files.
    2. Virus check / spyware scan your machine.
    3. Completely remove / uninstall the current version of iTunes and QuickTime from your system.....
3a. - Turn off all security software such as Norton, McAfee, SpySweepers, any TSRs, etc. (exit via the system tray)
3b. – Do a Stepwise clean uninstallation of iTunes
3c. - Then download and install the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility
.....And make sure iTunes is really gone.
    4. Delete the contents of your temp folder: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp
    5. Reboot the PC
    6. Turn off all security software such as Norton, McAfee, SpySweepers, any TSRs, etc. (exit via the system tray)
    7. Start with the QuickTime standalone installer run from the PC (not directly from on-line)
    8. Reboot the PC
    9. Turn off all security software such as Norton, McAfee, SpySweepers, any TSRs, etc. (exit via the system tray)
    10. First completely download, then run the latest iTunes Installer from your PC
    11. Reboot the PC
The majority of problems out there on the discussion boards are caused by viruses or other system corruption — sometimes self-inflicted by the user (i.e. - people who turn off necessary Windows services) — or out of date drivers. You may want to consider this if your PC falls into one of these categories.

  • Show hidden dirs/files on Finder

Sometimes it would be a great help when working via ARD on a server to have access to directories like /etc or /var directly on the Finder.
In order to do so, I currently need to go into the menu line, "Go to"/"Go to folder" and then type in the path.
While this works well, I asked me if there is a more convenient way to show these folders, like when clicking on the harddisk icon.
Is there a way to manage this ?

There is, but it won't do you much good anyway since these directories are
not writable by normal users, so you can't make any changes anyway.
As admin user I have write access to /var/named, for example. This would be helpful for me when managing zone files.
Yes, it asks for my admin password each time when modifying files and at some dirs I have no access overall.
Okay, having other users at the server would be one point, at they have only limited ftp access to certain branches of the directory tree, so they not play a role. Anyway, thanks for noting me about (I not thought about this).
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool TRUE
Simply being typed in at terminal's command prompt ?

  • Unable to read/write Windows files on mac anymore

Today, out of much extreme panick as of a false alarm, i had installed MacFUSE, an application used so you can read and write windows files on your mac side. What i didn't know is that i already had NTFS-3G, one which could already do that. I uninstalled MacFUSE instantly (removed pane from system preferences), now i still can't see windows mounted on my mac desktop. When i boot up, i get an error; below. If i choose to manually mount it from the disk utility i get the same error. I'm not sure where to post this type of stuff since it's not really apple related but it's worth a shot.

I've had that same issue with NTFS-3G and Fuse. I ended up getting Paragon NTFS for Mac. Its about 20 bucks, but it works great. IMHO, this is a feature Apple should build into OS X especially since they have a feature such as Boot Camp

  • [done] Vifm - show hidden files as default????

    as the subject says...
How do I set in my vifmrc to always show hidden/dot files when vifm starts?
also, can anyone point me to somewhere on how to theme/color vifm?

I can't help you with the dotfiles setting (other than suggesting hacking the code); for the colourscheme, there is this thread:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=91202
#edit The relevant part of vifmrc is:
    # The regular expression used to filter files out of
    # the directory listings.
    # LWIN_FILTER=\.o$ and LWIN_INVERT=1 would filter out all
    # of the .o files from the directory listing. LWIN_INVERT=0
    # would show only the .o files
    LWIN_FILTER=\.o$
    LWIN_INVERT=1
    RWIN_FILTER=\.o$
    RWIN_INVERT=1

  • Convert Windows Excel File into a Mac Excel File

I have transferred my Workout Journal spread sheet over from my girlfriends PC (which I use often) . Problem is, I can't access it the file on my Mac in Excel or Numbers. It's currently in .xlsx format, I tried simply renaming as an .xls file but it wouldn't open properly on either application.
How do I convert this file Windows file into a Mac readable file. Thanks
    All help appreciated

You cannot read Excel ".xlsx" form files using older versions of Microsoft Excel than the 2011 version of Office for Mac or at all in Numbers.  You will either have to Upgrade your version of Excel on your Mac to "Office for Mac 2011", OR go back to your girlfriend's computer and resave the file using "Save As ..." and there select the ".xls" compatibility format instead of the default ".xlsx" version that the newer versions of Excel use.

  • Finding windows file in finder

My wife uses Parallels so she can use Quickbooks and one online database that only works with IE. It is the only thing that goes wrong with her MBP. Trying to back stuff up, anyone know how we find the windows files through the mac finder?
    thanks

    Hi Daniel,
a Parallels VM (Virtual Machine) merely consists of two files on your OSX volume.
Both of them have the same filename that is also the name of your Windows VM plus the file extensions .hdd and .pvs
The .pvs file is the "configuration" file of the VM and the .hdd file contains the actual Windows VM "harddisk/partition".
To my knowledge there is no way to access single files within the Windows Vm .hdd file.
However, within the Parallels Folder in your Application Folder you should have an application named "Parallels Explorer.app" whith which it should be possible to access/copy files within your Windows VM.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • How transfer file from garageband mac to garageband iPad?

how transfer file from garageband mac to garageband iPad?

    In answer to the question:
how transfer file from garageband mac to garageband iPad?
Transfering a file from Garageband on the Mac to Garageband in the iPad is not just a case of putting it in iTunes as a number of people seem to state.  The XML package which is the Garageband Song File has to be changed before a Garageband Mac file will be downloadable to the iPad.  This can be done manually but is time consuming and tedious.  After doing it manually a few times and making mistakes, I have created an Applescript Application to do this called:
Garageband Mac to iPad Oneshot Converter
I have made a video of the converter in use which I have post on my Youtube ' fixed1t ' pages.  This Application and the video solves the question above and shows the song file on the mac being moved and running on the iPad.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ruT-dUhh2c
There is a link on the Description of the fixed1t youtube video to enable viewers to download a trial version. The link will also allow viewers to purchase a copy once you have tried i, but you are under no obligation to purchase and the trial is completely free.  I am selling it for £5 UK and I will receive over £4 of this should you decide to purchase using the PayPal link.
Please try it out and give me feedback, even if you don't wish to buy it.
    Thanks Malcolm (aka fixed1t)
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • How can I completely remove music files from my mac? (sorry if repost)

I am currently enjoying a 15' MacBook Pro (Mac Os X 10.6.4) and have upgraded to Itunes 10. Recently, I decided to delete all my music files and start over. To avoid duplicate files I followed the advice on this link - (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1224) ; However, when I downloaded Itunes 10 again, my music was still there. Please help! I really want to start with a clean slate and have the peace of mind, knowing that there are no hidden music files on my mac taking up space. Looking forward to some great help.

Recently, I decided to delete all my music files and start over.
Why? Much easier to clean up what you do have.
To avoid duplicate files I followed the advice on this link -(http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1224)
That simply removes the iTunes application. It will not remove any of the library or media files.
All the media files and library files are in /Music/iTunes/ folder.
Recently, I decided to delete all my music files and start over.
Do you have these music files stored elsewhere? You do not get to redownload any iTunes store purchases.
