Show NULL values in an SQL query
Hi,
Please excuse my ignorance, but I am very green in Oracle.
I am trying to create a simple function in PHP to return a list of the entire table row in an Oracle DB, however no matter I do Oracle skipps the columns with NULL values, which means that I don't even get the number of the columns corect. The query is as simple as it can get:
SELECT * FROM table_name;
I've tried NVL, DECODE and god knows what else. Please give me a hand with this.
Cheers,
Pimmy
Once you can use ODBC it should be possible to use MySQL with HS:
http://www.idevelopment.info/data/Oracle/DBA_tips/Heterogeneous_Services/HETERO_2.shtml
What concerns the licenses: We are not referring to transparent gateways but to heterogenous services (generic connectivity) which come free with the DB:

'Show Null Values as' variables not replaced
I need the null values to display as small as possible so there is an image in my image repository, 1x1px, transparent, that I wanted to display in these null places, but when I inserted something like <img src="&COMPANY_IMAGES.null.gif"> or <img src="#COMPANY_IMAGES#null.gif">, the COMPANY_IMAGES was not replaced with the usual long call, it was just like inserted in the 'Show Null Values as' field.
I have workarounds
1) use a static image, that is publicly available - making the app's appearance dependant on that publicly available image.
2) select columns with nvl(NULLABLE_COL, '<img src="#COMPANY_IMAGES#null.gif">'), which is just a thing, that could be easily forgotten in some place and makes the query even more obscure than it already is.
I really like neither of them. Is there some other way to call COMPANY_IMAGES in that field or is it just a place where isn't the substitution string available?wow. you're right about that substitution not being made in that "Show Null Values as" field. i'll log that issue in a sec. you can work around the issue for now by simply doing that substitution yourself. so if you run this...
select :WORKSPACE_IMAGES FROM DUAL
...from your sqlWorkshop, you'll see that WORKSPACE_IMAGES is substituted with a call like...
wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=123456&p_fname=
...(where 123456 is my :WORKSPACE_ID). if you wanted to call an image called my_image.jpg in that "Show Null Values as" field, you could just enter the string...
wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=123456&p_fname=my_image.jpg
...right in there, and you'd find your images rendered correctly. the only thing to watch out for is the hard-coded :WORKSPACE_ID in your field. you'd have to mind at number if you deployed your app in a different workspace.
hope this helps,

Retreiving a value from and SQL query
If anyone can give me sample code or pointers to retreive a value from an sql query, I'd be greatful.
Source code I've muddled together so far:
Class seqNumType = Class.forName(nameOfClass);
Constructor theConstructor = seqNumType.getConstructor(null);
Object seqNumInstance = theConstructor.newInstance(null);
String theStatement = "SELECT value INTO v_seqnum FROM DUAL;";
OracleCallableStatement ocs = (OracleCallableStatement)conn.prepareCall(theStatement);
ocs.registerOutParameter( 1, OracleTypes.NUMBER, 0);
Method method = seqNumInstance.getClass().getMethod("getORADataFactory", null);
seqNumInstance = ocs.getORAData(1, (ORADataFactory)method.invoke(null,null));
ocs.execute();
Problem with this seems to be the ORADataFactory isn't a method of the class, but as I'm thumbling around in the dark here a little, I've no idea where to go from here. Is this just generally overkill anyway?
Suggestions?
Cheers for any help.Like this:
ResultSet resultSet=statement.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM TEST");
while(resultSet.next())
for(int i=0;i<resultSet.getMetaData().getColumnCount();i++)
System.out.print(resultSet.getObject(i+1).toString()+" ");
System.out.println(); -
How to pass the Bound values to VO SQL Query during runtime?
Hi all,
I have the following sql query;
SELECT NOTIFICATION_ID
FROM xx_NOTIFICATION_V
WHERE COMPANY = NVL(:1, COMPANY)
AND INITIATOR = NVL(:2,INITIATOR)
AND PAYGROUP = NVL(:3, PAYGROUP)
AND SOURCE = NVL(:4, SOURCE)
AND SUPPLIER_NAME = NVL(:5,SUPPLIER_NAME)
AND TRX_DATE BETWEEN NVL(:6,TRX_DATE)
AND NVL(:7,TRX_DATE)
If i click GO button on search page then it pass the selected Poplists values as a Bound values to VO Sql query at runtime after this I store the search results in a Table(Which is created by using New Region Wizard).
I want to pass the Bind parameter values to VO SQL query during runtime and :1,:2,:3,:4,:5,:6,:7 values are coming from Poplists.
I search through forum I found many threads regarding Bind Values but those all are passing ID's only not String(Varchar) values.
How to pass the Character values to VO Query.
Please anyone help me on this.
Thanks in Advance.Hi All,

How could I replace it?
I defined conatant value like below inside my package body where the actual procedure comes.But I'm not sure whether I have to declare it inside package body or inside the procedure.
bin_type CONSTANT NUMBER := 2;But it does't look for this value. So I'm not able to get desired value for the report .
Thanks.

Hi,
I am running Discoverer Plus 10.1.2.45.46c. We are running into some issues with the Show Null values as option under Tools/Options/Sheet tab. If you open an existing workbook that has this value set to NULL you can't change your output to show as ' ' for example.
Has anybody else ran into this ? Is there a work around ?
Thanks
DennisAs per bug 4330751 - workbooks created in desktop with the option for nulls set to "" will display as NULL in plus. There is a new worksheet setting for nulls that you can modify in plus - Edit->Worksheet Properties->Crosstab/Table Format tab.
The pref.txt setting will be honored for new plus workbooks. -
How to pass a value into a SQL Query?
Hi There,
I want to know if there is a possibility to pass a dynamic value in a sql query. For example I have a currency rate value (ex: rate = 1.319, 2.23 etc) which user wants to input when running the query (The rate is not taken from the system, so I cannot compare to any table column and pass it as a parameter).
And this rate has to be used in my query to do some calculation. Is this possible? The value :p_currency_rate doesn't work
Any ideas please?
Thank you,

DBA_USERS showing null values in PASSWORD column
Hi,
We are running a select query from dba_users table as follows :
select username from dba_users
where to_char(expiry_date, 'DD-MON-YY') =
to_char(sysdate + &expire_day, 'DD-MON-YY')
and password not in ('EXTERNAL','account-locked')
and account_status <> 'LOCKED';
This query was running fine with 10g Version, but after Oracle was upgraded to 11G recently, above query does not return any rows.
Also, when we remove the condition "and password not in ('EXTERNAL','account-locked')", it works.
And the values for the PASSWORD column shows null.
Is this related to Oracle upgrade ?
Kindly help..
Thanks,
JatinI have the same behavior in my 11g db (I have nulls in password column too) as checking docs:
[url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e24448/statviews_5081.htm#REFRN23302]Oracle® Database Reference 11g Release 2 (11.2) - DBA_USERS
I can see:
USER_USERS describes the current user. This view does not display the PASSWORD, PROFILE, PASSWORD_VERSIONS, EDITIONS_ENABLED, or AUTHENTICATION_TYPE columns....
PASSWORD VARCHAR2(30) This column is deprecated in favor of the AUTHENTICATION_TYPE columnIt seems you need to get this info from somewhere else.

How to check for null values in pl sql?
Hello,
I have an sql statement where I read the db column into a number of variables, some of the columns contain NULL values or empty varchars. How can I check if my variable contains any data?
Thanks,
Jto check if your variable contain null or not use like this
if v_variable is null if you use
if v_variable=NULL this is right according to syntax but it will not give you desired result
SQL> declare
2 v_empname varchar2(20);
3 v_comm number;
4 begin
5 select ename,comm into v_empname,v_comm from emp
6 where empno=7839 and comm is NULL;
7 dbms_output.put_line(v_empname);
8 if v_comm is NULL then
9 dbms_output.put_line(v_empname);
10 end if;
11 end;

How do I Send in a value to the SQL Query Expression's variable created using Declare in Power Query
I have gone through the other posts where in a parameter is sent to query created by power query but my ask is a bit different.
I am using a sql query to retrieve data using Power query which has 2 variables declared in the DECLARE section in the query.
Ex:
declare @Name varchar(1000)
SET @Name= 'Alpha'
declare @location nvarchar(1000)
SET @location= 'Bravo'
Select * from Infotable where Name = @Name and location = @location.
Now in the following query I would want to send in the values for the declared variables using a table in my worksheet. I have followed the stuff present in the following post
http://blog.oraylis.de/2013/05/using-dynamic-parameter-values-in-power-query-queries/
but when using the value name (let Name_parameter = Excel.Currentworkbook(), Name_Value = Name_Parameter [0][value]) in the Advance Editor as mentioned in the above post I am being thrown an error stating Name_Value column doesn't exist.

How to replace variable value of a sql query dynamically
Hi all,
Trying to execute sql queries present in Oracle table and the query it self contains the ODI variable #EMP_NO.
At the run time we thought of passing the variable values.
table contains query like
update table <table name> set <column name>= 5000 where emp_no = #EMP_NO
We need to execute the sql query using a ODI procedure, to pick the sql query from table we use another variable #varSQLID and in the command on source tab wrote like
select sql_query varSQL from emp_sql where query_id=#varSQLID
Command on target
#varSQL
when ever I tried to execute I am getting error please let me know what changes are required .
The question is whether it's possible to replace the variable value present in the above sql ?
regards,
Palash ChatterjeeThanks Siddhartha,
Actually we have been doing the same, means half of the query has been kept in the table and rest is being added in the " command on source " tab of the procedure .
But the problem is , the "where" condition is not same for all SQL queries,
to provide 27 different sqls queries for 27 packages we have to create 27 procedures (as "where" condition may take other column values along with "EMPNO" for the JOIN condition ) .
Any suggestion of keeing SQL along with the variable and storing it in the table may resolve our problem and work of 27 procedures can be performed by a single procedure .
regards,
Palash Chatterjee
