Show remote images in Mail.app

I have remote images in HTML e-mails turned off in Mail.app, because most HTML e-mails I get with remote images are spam. But I get some legit e-mails with remote images, always from the same sender. There's no option in Mail.app's Rules to automatically show remote images if the message comes from a specific sender, but I do see an option to run an applescript.
So is there a script for Mail.app that will turn on remote image display for a message?

Sorry. I misunderstood your question. Here's a script that should do what you are asking for:
--BEGINNING OF SCRIPT
using terms from application "Mail"
on perform mail action with messages theMessages for rule theRule
tell application "Mail"
activate
repeat with eachMessage in theMessages
open eachMessage
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Mail"
if button "Load Images" of front window exists then
click button "Load Images" of front window
end if
end tell
end repeat
end tell
end perform mail action with messages
end using terms from
--END OF SCRIPT
Please let me know if anything doesn't work as expected.

  • Email in gmail doesn't show up in mac mail app

    I was looking for a specific email and searched the mail app by date and keywords and couldn't find it. Then I went to gmail on chrome and searched for it using the same keywords and found it. Why doesn't it show up in the mail app?

    Hello. I got a similar issue. My iTunes 9 and my iPhone 3GS 3.1 works fine, they sync and so on. I got tethering service from my carrier and it worked fine using USB and Bluetooth with my MacBook. I don't know what happened but now it works only with Bluetooth. The ethernet adapter ˜Ethernet Adapter (enX)" - as shown in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2756 - is missing.
    I can't find a way to recreate that iPhone adapter. When I try to tether thru USB nothing happens (no blue bar in iPhone), no adapter is recognized/created. When I tether thru Bluetooth everything works fine.
    Does anyone know how to reset iPhone ethernet config in Mac OS? Thank you.

  • Mail: Stop showing remote images ONLY in junk mail?

    You can set Mail's prefs to not display remote images, but is there a way to set it to not show them in junk mail but show them in other mail? I haven't been able to find it. I'm running Mail 3.6.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    No, there is not. It wouldn't be reliable or useful. If Mail filters it as junk, presumably you won't be opening it, and thus loading the images, anyway. On the other hand, if it fails to recognize one message as spam and you open it, you'll load the images and become a "marked man." (ie, your address will be tagged as one where the spam is opened)

  • How to disable message images in Mail app for all but contacts?

    I use the Mail app for OS X Mavericks and have been inundated with spam lately. I understand that spam email campaigns can confirm that you have opened their mail (and subsequently continue to send you mail) by image tracking so I would like to disable images from showing for all except my contacts. I don't recall if it was with Mail or another email client I previously used, but I vaguely remember message images not showing by default and requiring you to click a button at the top of the message in order to show the images within it. If possible, I would like to be able to do this for non-contacts.
    So my question is: how can I disable images from showing, by default, in messages from non-contacts within the Mail app?
    If there is no way to do this, can someone suggest an alternative email client for Mac OS that does allow this? I am willing to change if this feature does not exist within the Mail app.
    Thanks for your time.

    Personally, I've never heard of spammers tracking by a contact's image. I think you might be confusing this with the images in the message.
    Spammers can do two things to track you.
    1) Send an email with a read receipt. Mail doesn't support read receipts
    2) Send an email with an embedded image (sometimes called a bug or beacon). When the email is opened, the email software loads the image from the remote server by sending it an HTTP request.
    If a message matches the junk mail criteria, then a bar will appear near the top of the message. External images in the message will automatically be disabled, so that spam authors won’t be able to track if you’ve opened the message. To load the images, click the “Load Images” button in the bar, or to mark the message as not junk, select “Not Junk.”
    Mail > Preferences > Viewing >Uncheck Display remote images in HTML messages.
    Enable Junk filtering in Mail Preferences. Check "sender in in contacts, sender in in previous recipients**, message is addressed using full name.
    Use SpamSieve, third party product to filter spam, http://c-command.com/spamsieve/
    Keep contacts in your Address Book.
    Mark messages as junk to help train the junk filter.
    Don't open a message you think is spam. You should be able to see enough of a message in the preview to know if it's spam.
    ** Open Previous Recipients under Window in the Menu bar. Remove any addresses from spammers.

  • How to prevent JEditorPane to show remote images

    Hello
    I make an e-mail client with JEditorPane to show the html content.
    If the content contains IMG tag with src like http://somehost.on.the.web...
    then JEditorPane tries to load the remote image. But I have an internet connection via proxy. So, JEditorPane cannot find somehost.on.the.web on the LAN and an annoying timeout occurs. If I use System.setProperty("http.proxySet","true"), ... then JEditorPane uses proxy and loads images. I do not want to use a proxy. But how can I eliminate the timeout? It doesn't occur in Linux. In windows it doesn't occur only if there are no active network connections.
    I learn that JEditorPane loads images throgh the java.awt.Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit()
    ImageView.loadImage()
    Could you, please, tell me how can I force JEditorPane to do not load remote images or eliminate the problem with timeout in Windows with LAN.

    I wouldn't use that option, nor would I suggest anyone else
    use it UNLESS
    you are supremely confident in your ability to not make

    Otherwise, it's a train wreck waiting to happen.

  • Remote Search in Mail.app

    I have an interesting problem I can't figure out how to solve easily. I have about 26GB of old emails on my older MacBook Pro that I search through occasionally. I now have a MacBook Air that I would like to use as my primary "roaming" computer (relegating my MBP to be my work desktop). I would like to have search access to all my old emails but don't want to waste 26GB out of the 120GB SSD on something I only occasionally search.
    Is there any way for me to search through these old emails "remotely" from my MBA's Mail.app (mbox files would be stored on the MBP or another "server")? Or any other ways around this problem (eg, can I save a smaller Spotlight index locally on my MBA but not the full files)? And please don't tell me "ssh + grep". That's not very Mac-like.

    the ONLY way to search mail messages from Mail is by importing them into Mail. no way around that. but you can search them from finder without importing. nothing needs to be done for that. just mount the remote computer via file sharing and do a finder or spotlight search and it will search on the remote computer when you switch the search location to shared. to restrict the search to Mail only preface the search string with kind:message

  • The contact picture doesn't show up in the mail app

    Hi,
    I've used facebook account to import all of my contacts to ML, so every contact already has a picure. In my mail app I added one of contacts to ML contacts by clicking on his name and choosing "Add to Contacts", now when I click on his name and choose "Show Contact Card" I can see his picture in the card but in mail app his picture frame doesn't show up. what's wrong?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks sberman for reply,
    No he hasn't. I've tested this with other contacs. If someone is already in my facebook cantacts and I receieve an email from him, but he hasn't included that email address in his facebook account, if I add this new email to his contact card, his picture frame will not appear in mail app. I can see his both facebook and other email address in the contact card.

  • Inserting Remote Image In Mail Message?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to link to a Remote Image in an Apple Mail Message and have it load within the e-mail? What I mean is, can you link to a photo on a site like Flickr, and have the image display within the e-mail, rather than just the text link?

    this is possible but you have to jump through hoops to do it which personally strikes me as completely ridiculous.
    the only way I know how to achieve this is the following.
    make an html document using your favorite html editor and insert a remote pic in it.
    then open this file in safari and enter command+i. this page will be opened in a new outgoing mail message and you can mail it.
    I would be delighted to know if there is an easier way to do this.

  • Attaching an Image to Mail.app

    I know, it's been a problem since the evolution of Apple Mail, but it's finally about to drive me to another email client. In the past I've been able to use Attachment Tamer to attach images to outgoing emails, but now its developer has all but vanished and most likely abandoned the application, even though it's always been a 5-star app that worked well with Mail.app. It was never fully released for Mavericks and the Mavericks beta won't work at all with Yosemite. Bottom line is why does Apple have this aversion to allowing images to be attached to an email and force users to embed images inline? Does anyone know of any workarounds to attach images to an email?

    You might try this:
    In a normal mail attachment the header info before the MIME encoded image/file info is this:
    --Apple-Mail-B7254802-404D-423E-86F7-1DCE849C83E8
    Content-Type: application/vnd.iwork.pages.archive;
    name="Blank 2.pages.zip"
    Content-Disposition: attachment;
    filename="Blank 2.pages.zip"
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    In a Mac Mail in-line attachment the header info before the MIME encoded image/file is this:
    --Apple-Mail=_7D45E9DC-5540-4CB6-8490-C71D4016573C
    Content-Disposition: inline;
    filename=pdf.pdf
    Content-Type: application/pdf;
    x-unix-mode=0644;
    name="pdf.pdf"
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    Try editing the file outside of mail in a Terminal window (like with vi or vim or nano or whatever you favorite text editor is) and change (don't include the double-quotes only used for illustration):
         1. Change the "Content-Disposition" from "inline" to "attachment;"
         2. Under no circumstances change the line starting with "--Apple-Mail" as that contains a long hex string that terminates the MIME data
    I would make a copy of the test mail message rather than edit the original message so that if something goes wrong, you haven't done any permanent change.
    Good luck...

  • "Default email reader" shows 2 versions of Mail.app

    If I got to Preferences in Mail.app, the first drop down to select the "Default email reader" shows 2 versions of Mail to choose from: 2.1.1 & 3.0
    Any ideas why that is or how to remove the 2.1.1? Whenever I chose 3.0 and close the prefs and then open them again, it stays selection on 2.1.1

    Just discovered this on my Default Apps as well - though not just with Mail.
    I have apparently got Mail 2.1.1 and four (4) versions of Mail 3.0 in this menu. Also - four versions of Safari 3.0.4, one of 2.0.4, as well as five versions of Firefox 2.0.8 and one version of 2.0.7.
    It also things I have multiple numbered versions of Fetch, and VLC.
    Not sure what is going on with that, or why it's happening. I am having trouble with my Mail.app preferences repeatedly changing after I sync my machines across .mac. I'm wondering if this is another symptom and/or part of the problem.

  • Show Numbers version in Mail.app

    I’m using Mail 4.3 and have both Numbers ’08 and Numbers ’09 installed. OS 10.6.4.
    When I want to open an Excel file in Mail I get right-click and see Open with>Numbers, Numbers, Bento, etc. The Finder right clicking a file identifies them as Numbers (2.0.4) and Numbers (1.0.3). Mail doesn’t do that.
    Is there a way to get Mail to show the version of Numbers in the drop-down?
    (I figured this might a good place to start since it pertains specifically to Numbers.)

    Looter wrote:
    Thanks for that. Is there any reason to keep ’08 off the top of your head?
    I'm sure there are reasons for some people to keep both versions, but I don't see a need for it under ordinary circumstances. Whether your circumstances are 'ordinary' or not, I'm not in a position to tell. One thing I would caution about is having both versions open at the same time. As far as I know, they will both use the same preferences (.plist) file(s), which could produce some difficulties.
    Odd that Apple doesn’t replace the old version as it does with many other apps like iTunes, Mail etc. I get why they didn’t replace iMovies because they removed some functionality but Numbers is a head scratcher.
    Well, you did pay for iWork '08, and when you bought iWork '09 you paid for the application package, not for an upgrade from the previous version.

  • Showing inverted images in some apps

    Hi,
    I am currently running Mac OS X 10.9.1 (Mavericks) on my rMBP2013 15inch.
    Recently, I have found out that there are images being inverted in some apps including JPEGmini and Skype.
    This happens in only few applications... but I am curious why this is happening.
    I tried to fix it by googling "inverted images on mac" but
    only solution I found was turning off the inverting option in Universal Access in System Preferences
    which did not work for me.
    Someone please help me with this....

    Thanks a lot!
    It worked for me

  • Mail - remote images are not retained

    I don't automatically load remote images in mail. I load them manually using the Load Images button at the top of the message. When i quit mail and relaunch it, the images in that message are gone, and must be loaded again. This happens with all messages i have tried (so it's not just one funky one).
    Is this the expected behavior? I would have guessed that once you approve the loading of remote images for a particular message, they would be stored locally with the message and wouldn't have to be loaded again. (i think that's how outlook and entourage function)
    thanks.

    My experience is that they're cached for some amount of time, but then have to be loaded again.

  • Safari is not showing some images from web properly

    Hi. Since last week some pictures from web are not showing properly on safari & mail apps.
    Whenever I go to websites with relatively many images, some of the images are only showing top halves and the bottom halves are solid black.
    This has never happened before.
    As it was so annoying, I've tried deleting safari history, cookies, and web data, and I also tried network reset.
    None of them worked.
    What's weird is that this issue doesn't happen when I'm using wifi, but happens when I use LTE.
    My signal dots are full 5, and LTE is still faster than my wifi.
    what can I try next?

    You can fix the issue temporarily by going to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data.  Note that this will log out of any website you were logged in to, and will clear your browsing history (if you use suggested websites from your history when going to new pages), but it will reset the cache containing the incorrect images.
    Another way to fix this issue temporarily is to use Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data and swipe to delete only those domains that have incorrect images.  This does the equivalent of clearing website data, but only for the specific site removed.  Note that images are frequently served from different domains than the host site, so you must clear the domains where the images are stored.  Also, this page doesn't have a way to filter the list, so you must look through it manually, which is why I don't suggest it as the first option.
    BTW, the majority of posts reporting this issue appear to be AT&T customers.
