Shutdown DB and App services -- System Hangs

I have installed EBS 11.5.10.2 on my laptop on a windows 2000 advanced server o/s and apps works fine. But the problem that I have is during the shutdown.
I have tried several ways but without any luck.
1/ Manually shutdown the services in the Service Control Manager in the order as follows: First all App services -- I was able to sucessfully stop these services manually. Then DB listner and DB services -- I was able to sucessfully stop these services manually.
But when I shutdown my laptop, it does not shutdown properly. It just shows a message it is shutting down and then just the screen appears and never powers off. After forced shutdown, my apps does work fine but I am not happy doing forced shutdowm as I have external hard drive (USB 2.0) and don't know what effect it will have on it.
2/ Tried running AD scripts such as adstpall.cmd (by referring maintenance procedure guide from Oracle). But I always get an error saying "cannot find environment '\.cmd'" I don't know what the issue is. I have tried to run envxxx.cmd to setup the environment but still could NOT manage to get through. But I wonder what this script does other than stopping the services.
Appreciate if someone can shed more light on this and help to resolve this.
Many thanks,
Praveen

Thank you all.. I have managed to get this resolved.
Following are the steps to resolve this:
1/ Set all the services to start manually in Service Control Manager (services.msc).
2/ Reboot the machine
To start the services
1/ Run addlnctl.cmd first to start the DB listner
2/ Started manually the oraclevis service as addbctl.cmd script fails as it always complains that it has failed to connect to the listner
3/ Run adstrtal.cmd to start all the applicaton tier services
4/ adstrtctl.cmd does not start concurrent mgr service, discoverer service, forms service, so had to manually start them to get the apps working.
Before shutdown
1/ Run adstpall.cmd to stop all the application services#
2/ Manually stop concurrent mgr, discoverer, forms services
3/ Run addbctl.cmd to shutdown the database
4/ Run addlnctl.cmd to shutdown the DB listner
5/ Although it said successfully dismounted DB when addbctl.cmd was run, it had not stopped oraclevis service, so had to manually stop the service.
Shutdown the box, it shutsdown without any hangups.
Cheers,
Praveen
4/ Shutdown the services using the
Start all the service

  • Node-webkit Helper causing system hangs

I'm using the intel XDK developer tool and having frequent system hangs when node-webkit Helper is accessed. The CPU use in monitor is ofter in excess of 100%. I've seen other people having problems with node-webkit Helper on OSX with different apps. Does anyone know of a solution for this?

There are two fairly common reasons why an update doesn't work properly:
    1. Use of a Delta updater instead of the Combo Updater. The latter seems to cause fewer problems or, rather, may "fix" some problems that the Delta updater misses.
    2. The user needed to repair the hard drive and permissions prior to installing the update. This is the most common problem. Installing an update on a system that is corrupted or where permissions are invalid will usually cause the resulting updated system to malfunction.
In some cases there are actual system files that have become corrupted and cause an update to malfunction. If this be the case usually it's necessary to do an Archive and Install to replace the old system (hard drive should be repaired prior to doing the Archive and Install.)
Among troubleshooting efforts to try are: (1) boot into safe mode to see if the problem is solved. Safe mode disables third-party startupitems, contextualmenuitems, and extensions; (2) create a new user account and log into the new account; A new user account has no login items or old preference files. If these are corrupted the system will work properly in the new account; (3) Use a utility such as TinkerTool System to clear user cache files, font files, and log files. If these become corrupted they will cause the system to malfunction.
Install the freeware utility AppleJack (www.versiontracker.com) on each of your Macs. In the event of severe problems you can boot the computer into single-user mode and run AppleJack to fix many items that cause problems. AppleJack is only run from the commandline in single-user mode.

How do I turn off the Genius app in App Store. I've gone to Settings/Privacy/Location Services/System Services then swiped Genius for apps 'off''. Also, I've gone to Settings/ITunes and App Stores/Click on AppleID/View Apple ID and then turn off Genius. Still nothing has worked. I'm still stuck with Genius offering the same apps to me. Mind you, once I click on the App Store there is nothing I can do but swipe left and right. There's absolutely nothing at the bottom of the screen like a features tab, nothing. There is, however, a categories button at the top, but that's it. Irrelevant.

FWIW, I just got off the phone with Apple technical support about this.  I use Genuis for creating playlists, so I don't want to disable it, but Apple support confirmed that there is no way to avoid syncing Genius data without disabling Genius altogether.  I'd read somewhere else that subscribing to iTunes Match might allow you to avoid this, but that is NOT the case, as I've confirmed, and Apple support has confirmed.  For me, it routinely syncs thousands genius of items, so I have to allow a lot of time for my manual syncs.

  • System hangs, but mouse cursor is moving and music keeps on playing

    Hi,
I'm experiencing very odd behaviour with my MacBook.
System hangs suddenly. I can't switch to any programs, but music keeps on playing and mouse cursor moving. It stays like this forever unless I force laptop to shutdown (by pressing the power button over 5 secs).
Few things that I've noticed when system crashed:
    - I had a lot of programs running (Photoshop, Firefox, lots of small apps)
    - I used Expose or alt-tab
    - iTunes is playing music
Can anyone recommend some tests or tricks that I could run before sending it to the Apple service?

You might be right about having less apps to consume RAM. I've upgraded my RAM to 2GB because I knew this would be on issue.
Maybe I just have to start looking for better performance. Something that can house more RAM. 2xQuad Core Mac Pro for example

I tried to point out that mouse cursor is moving but system doesn't respond to any clicks.
I'll try the Main Menu and keep eye on RAM consumption. I'll post to this thread if it hangs again.

If you have an iPad 2 you can wirelessly mirror it to your TV via the ATV device. If you have an iPad 1 then you can use airplay but not all apps are enabled to push video, as the developer needs to do this.
You can also view all local content from iTunes or your iPad, pushed via airplay/home-sharing.
The other services available are iTunes movie rentals, TV shows (past purchases viewable from the cloud), Photo Stream, Netflix, Vimeo, Podcasts, Youtube, Sports etc.

  • P13N Server and App Server on separate systems - strange ports opened

    Hi -
We have a configuration using WebLogic Personalization Server 3.1.1 on one
server and WebLogic Application Server 5.1 w/Service Pack 6 on another
server. What we've seen with our firewall configuration is that it appears
there are high-number random ports opened occasionally from the App Server
to the P13N Server, which d not appear to be related to connection attempts
(ex: port 42100). The only communication that we know should be happening
between the two systems are T3-based JNDI lookups, LDAP lookup/update
requests, and SQL queries. My questions, then, are as follows:
              1) In handling JNDI requests, are there any callbacks that can occur between
the two servers in this configuration on a different port?
              2) When separating the P13N Server and App Server, are there any "private"
ports opened between the two systems for management? As far as I know, the
App Server should simply view the P13N Server as another client, but the
firewall log would indicate that something is going on related to this.
If anyone has a similar config and can provide some info related to
potentially unseen port connections, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

    - arch-process doesn't release redolog files
    - arch-process doesn't die after database shutdown
    - arch-process can't be killed

이 에러가 발생하는 원인은 IBM AIX5L 64bit, 32bit OS 이슈에 있다.
IBM OS issue: SYSTEM HANG WITH JFS2 AND HEAVY LOAD.
    Workaround
    none
    Solution Description
    OS AIX5L ML4.0(5.2.0.40)의 bos.up / bos.mp / bos.mp64 fileset level을
갖는 JFS2 file system을 갖는 경우에 해당한다.
    AIX 5.3 APAR IY59387은 IY58143에 포함되어 있다.
JFS2 file system에 Heavy I/O activity가 발생하면 database process에
    Fix :
Need to install the IBM APAR-FIX IY59082, this APAR is included on
    bos.64bit 5.2.0.42.
    (주) IBM 엔지니어에게 확인 결과 이 Patch 안에 AIX5L 32bit 용과 64bit
용이 모두 포함되어 있는 것으로 확인됨.

    b,
The install was from my original Dell XP Pro-SP1 'Reinstallation' CD along with the complete MS XP-SP2 download that I burned to another CD. I also had all the latest Dell drivers from their website burned to a CD. Install went as follows:
    - Format HD
    - Install XP Pro SP1
    - Install SP2
    - Install Dell Drivers
    - Obtain any MS patches from their site
    - Install Office
    - Update Office from the MS website
    - Install iTunes
    - Tweak MS settings
    - Install many software programs
    - Make an interim Image of system and store to ExHD
    - Install other software programs (mostly security programs)
    - Make another 'complete' Image to ExHD
    - Restore backup data and music
After additional testing last night, I determined that it is not iTunes at all (or to blame). I get intermittent hangs/freezes/pauses in other media players (WMP, etc.).
Seems that something is causing the 'System' process to periodically jump up in CPU %age (though not more than 30-50%). Even this relatively small amount is enough to pause the playback of music or video, hang the mouse movement for a brief moment, or delay a menu opening. All very subtle - you have to be looking for it to notice (except with real-time audio-video, which is quite noticeable whenever this happens).
I had this problem a year ago, which is why I reimaged then and stayed with SP1 on the advice of Dell and Webroot. I'm stumped as to where to look for the culprit. Every time I go back to the original HD with SP1, everything runs smoothly. Some sort of system call is generating this complete pause....
I'll be limited in my Internet ability for the next several days, so I may be out of touch until Friday. I'll keep testing and playing with the limited equipment I take along....
Any thought you or others want to toss out, I'll attempt when possible.
    Thanks!

  • System hanging on shutdown

The home directories on my system are on NFS.
Most of the times, when users log out of their graphical session, some of their processes keep running (for instance /usr/bin/nepomukserver for KDE users and some processes related to pulse or to chromium).
When shutting down the system, arch scripts first try unmounting network filesystems, and this fails, since /home is busy; then they send a SIGTERM to processes, and this fails as well (I believe it's because the network has been halted but /home hasn't been mounted), then the system hangs while unmounting non-API filesystems.
If, before shutting down, I manually kill the user processes (nepomukserver, pulse, chromium, ...), arch is able to shutdown as expected.
Am I the only one affected by this problem?
How am I supposed to solve it?
I'm thinking about writing a script to terminate (`kill` and then `kill -9`) any process using /home (`lsof /home`), but this looks like a terrible hack...

So, since I couldn't find any other solution, decided to write a script (an init script to add to the DAEMONS array) that kills the processes using /home while halting the machine...
If anybody will ever need it, here it is:
    /etc/rc.d/pathliberator
    #!/bin/bash
    # Path Liberator
    # kills processes that are using a given path
    DAEMON=pathliberator
    . /etc/rc.conf
    . /etc/rc.d/functions
    [ -r /etc/conf.d/$DAEMON ] && . /etc/conf.d/$DAEMON
    case "$1" in
    start)
    stat_busy "Starting path liberator"
    add_daemon $DAEMON
    stat_done
    stop)

  • System Hangs on X-kill, reboot, or shutdown [an fglrx problem].

I'm pretty sure this is linked with my new monitor somehow. I got a new monitor, its hooked up with the DVI cable. Whenever I try to:
    exit openbox
    ctrl-alt-backspace to kill x
    restart (shutdown -r now)
    or shutdown (shutdown - now)
my system hangs. My screen shuts off, and starts blinking the power button, and its not responding.

I've no idea whether it's possible for a new monitor to somehow cause this... are you running ATI or nVidia drivers? Is direct rendering working, do you know?
    Try doing
    $ sudo chown -r yourNonRootUser /path/to/yourNonRootUsersHome
and seeing whether that remedies the problem with exiting openbox.
Also, look in /var/log/ for your Xorg.#.log files (I forget whether they're in a subdirectory in there... maybe under /var/log/x11/  ). See whether the most recent log file has any warnings or errors (EE or WW in brackets) that may indicate the source of the problem.

  • System hangs on reboot/shutdown after kernel upgrades

I've been experiencing the problem that, whenever pacman upgrades the kernel, the system hangs on reboot or shutdown.  It only happens on the first reboot/shutdown after a kernel upgrade.  I've noticed it consistently for a while now.
    To reboot, I issue:
    # reboot
    To shutdown, I issue:
    # shutdown -h now
I should also mention that I typically reboot after kernel upgrades because hotplugged storage devices (USB, SD) fail to be detected unless the system reboots.  That is, devices plugged in during the upgrade remain usable, but plugging in something new appears in /dev.  There may be an obvious reason for it that I'm missing, but it's never bothered me enough to look into it.  Not sure if this and the reboot/shutdown issue are related, though.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

When Apple Hardware Test says there is a problem, there definitely is a problem.
But like many diagnostics, it does not catch everything.
It can increase your confidence that you do not have gross flaws. The Hardware problems that remain may be more subtle ones.
