Siebel 7.5.3-end of sustaining
Hi
I have a customer who has a Siebel active support contract for version 7.5.3. Sustaining expired in December and the customer logged an SR (prior to sustaining expiration) to upgrade to 8.1.
My question is, can we solve this request? Sustaining is indeed expired but the request was done prior to expiration. Also the customer has active support.

It depends on how you authenticate your users. If you use Active Directory (AD) the user will end up on the view "Change Password View (SWE)" if the AD reports back that the password has expired. The User can then change the password from this view.

Just read the two great threads on PhD's in the Business Intelligence - Faculty Club forum... but since my topic is more related to Business Network Transformation I thought it best to ask here.
My proposed PhD topic is all about understanding what elements of a business process design makes it more sustainable than an other design.
Clearly this is a highly interdisciplinary topic covering (at least):
- Economics (efficiency / effectiveness)
- General Systems Theory / Systems Dynamics
- Industry Engineering / Work Design
- Industry Ecology / Environmental Science
- Public policy
- and of course, enterprise Software
I'm working on a few leads already (Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia Canada and MIT for example)... but so far I've not found too many people doing research focused on Business Process Design. Lots of people doing work on Business Process Management Systems (BPMS), lots of people doing work on the science and/or policy end of sustainability... but little on Business Process Design and Sustainability.
(Aside: I find this lack of research a bit odd given that in a business network / value chain , it is the design of the overall end-to-end process, crossing multiple organizations, which ultimately determine how sustainably the process's output are being produced)
Any thoughts / ideas in terms of academic's, journals, articles or institutions which are looking at the sustainability crisis through the business process / business network design lens would be much appreciated.

Your PhD topic sounds right on the button. I can only speak from local experience but around half of my members in the UK&I are starting to use Business Objects as a means to teaching students the concepts you describe in Business Processes - at one of our members for example we are working to support an Engineering Doctorate looking at the use of Business Intelligence in business processes using technology such as the iPad as a BPR analytical tool 'on the shop floor'. This would fall more under element (2) of your list. But you're right - each of the elements are crucial. My only advice would be that when you start out you go down a path which you find enjoyable and rewarding as this will enable to to stick to the PhD, and then also narrow the topic to a point where you can achieve the research in your lifetime. No joke - I've seen plenty of PhDs that wanted to map the world because of course everything is inter-related now. The trick is knowing where to draw the research boundary. I can certainly also point out some contacts at the like of Warwick and Cambridge Universities that have done BPR relating to health and aerospace but I'd suggest going with Jeff's suggestions first as he will almost certainly know people closer to you physically (not that that really matters anymore!)

Problems with 9.1.1...please help I'm going to smash things up soon.
2 days ago I updated to Logic 9.1.1 from the previous version. Now when working on projects I have unworkable problems. When recording notes just appear on the sequence and sometimes low and high notes sound out forever until I reset. Also, sometimes notes that would otherwise end just sustain.
I was so convinced this was a fault of my controller keyboard I've brought another one...but today after setting it up the problem still persists. I then thought it was a dodgy MIDI lead or interface as I still run some outboard but when plugging the new controller into my mac via USB therefore by-passing all midi, the problem remains. I therefore can only put it down to a fault in the software since I updated it. My studio is now inoperable and I don't know what to do.That sounds like a feedback loop.
Does the tone alter in pitch when you alter input and/or output levels or move your microphone?
And have you checked your coreaudio device in *Logic Pro>Preferences>Audio* ? And your recording settings in *File>Project Settings* ?
And how is your monitoring setup? Directly from the Presonus, or do you use *Software Monitoring* ?
Does the tone stop when you hit Pause ?
2nd possibility: a note event somewhere triggers a synth - but that would also happen in playback, so it is a long shot.... it does not happen in playback?

Now about SAP CRM then its indeed very very interesting module and there are many sub module and streams so one can always chose somehing of his choice in CRM and continue working. Being end user of any CRM system i always benifitial to understand the CRM business process.
From your [ast experience i am sure you are well acquainted with CRM Business Processes and with SAP, you need to put your this business knowledge into SAP CRM Framework to map the processes. I am sure that wont be difficult at all.
Regarding SAP CRM Market then its very good and with better appreciations year after year . Even in Recession there were the Jobs and Projects offering SAP CRM Positions everywhere.

Executing SAP GUI Script From a Web Page
I have an issue when trying to execute some javascript (sap gui script) from a webpage.
When the javascript is executed I get the message:
automation server unable to create object.
However, this exact same javascript when placed in a text file and double-clicked executes just fine through the windows scripting host.
Does anyone have an example of gui script code executing from a webpage? Or any ideas on why it isn't working from the webpage? Both scenarios should be executing the code on the local machine through WSH.

T420 CPU/GPU Temperatures seem excessive...
I was running Prime95 to check my CPU (Core i5-2520M) temperature (using Real Temp) and I noticed it was a bit high, about 95 degrees celsius. I followed up by running FurMark to check how the NVS 4200 GPU was doing. It ended up sustaining at 87 degrees celsius. I did not run the two tests concurrently.
I decided to strip the heatsink off and apply new thermal compound. After the new compound was applied, the CPU temperature under Prime 95 peaked at 84 degrees celsius. Under Furmark, the GPU sustained at 75 degrees celsius. A very significant drop.
I decided to run the two tests concurrently (after new compound had been applied) and ended up with a CPU temperature of 100 degrees celsius and a GPU temperature of 97 degrees celsius. Pretty horrifying stuff. I can't imagine those values being within operating range.
These torture tests are rather extreme so I followed up with some gaming. I played DOTA 2 for about 3 hours and during that period my CPU peaked at 98 degrees celsius with an average temperature of 93 degrees celsius. I did not log the GPU temperature during this session.
I should mention that Turbo Boost is enabled and the fan was set at maximum speed.
Does anybody have any temperature figures for similair configurations? Specifically in situations where the GPU and CPU are both under high load. I'm curious to know if my temperatures are abnormal.I started to think that it's not an issue with my sample. I went ahead and confirmed these temperatures on two other identically specced T420s (4178). Under extreme conditions the heatsink/fan unit cannot dissipate heat quickly enough causing both chips (CPU and GPU) to reach dangerous temperatures. If you haven't torture tested the GPU and CPU in your T420 concurrently, you might want to give it a shot. It gets alarmingly hot.
(Do this at your own risk, extreme heat can damage your hardware)

Very slow performance in every area after massive data load

I'm new to Siebel. I had a call from customer saying that virtually every aspect of the application (login, etc) is slow after they did a massive data loading ~ around 15GB of data.
Could you please help to point out what would be the best practice for this massive data loading exercise? All the table statistics are up to date.

I've read that for OWB 10gR1 the Premier Support ends Jul 2007 (Extended Support not offered) and the Sustaining Support ends Jul 2010 (no maintenance).

How to sustain a note to end an audio clip in Soundtrack Pro
This may be beyond the scope of this forum. It may be beyond the capabilities of the application, (I do plan on getting an STP training book from Apple, but I should probably get through the FCP book first!)
I'm putting together a little video, and I found a piece (Feelgood.caf) in the library that works perfectly. I mean, perfectly! About a minute into the audio file, the tempo picks up and I want to end it about twenty seconds or so after that. The problem is, the song is still going and I can't just stop it dead, because that would sound horrible! (I'm just using the first two stereo tracks in my sequence, by the way.)
What I'd like to know is if it's possible to - I guess the best analogy would be to create a "still" frame from an audio file? When the file hits that last note, I want to hold it and fade it out, even though in reality that note is only one beat.
If I was a musician, I could just figure the piece out and play the part I wanted, I suppose, but I'm not anywhere near that capable. So, as far as the sustaining that last note (that's in the middle of the song), do I have a snowball's chance?Listening to the piece, I'm seeing a few options.
1) I think where you want it to end, there's a kick drum sound. Blade it right before the kick sounds. Then go to the end of the piece where the drums drop out. The last drum sound is also a kick drum. Blade it right before that kick, and put that end segment right against the beginning part. If you do it right, it just sounds like the drums drop out again naturally, then you can do a fade out.
2) Edit it before the drums come in at all, and put in the segment from the end, where it goes back to the original feel. If the energy lift from the drums is what is working with your edit so well, this option won't work for you.
3) Fade it out. I usually don't like this option for music edits - it just telegraphs that the music didn't really fit, since it didn't end properly.
None of these are what you want, of course, but they might be good alternatives.

Sustained notes end abruptly ESX24 problem
Anyone ever experience this. It's been intermittent for me . I could be in a bare bones template, a violin patch loaded, playing a passage and oops a note(s) quit before releasing a key press, like a voice limit overload glitch where notes cut off. Can happen playing only one or two voices. The CPU meter barely lit. In the past I've thought I cleared it up by tweaking the standard Logic preferences. Is there an I/O Buffer size that better suits a heavy loaded ESX24 patch.Is larger disk buffer checked a good setting. How about process buffer range Medium setting. I have read the classic posts on the above preference settings, tweaked and tweaked again, settled for a while, but those dirty rings... Is there a name for the condition that us proud users develop that sends us on the topic hunt for the ultimate buffer settings that will make it all go away ?
It sounds like you might have streaming disabled.
If you go to the EXS preferences, look for streaming (I think the EXS refers to this as VM-virtyal memory). Make sure it's enabled.

I have question about future of Siebel. I am currently 25 years old (and 1 year experience with Siebel), and I am think about specialization.
Currently Oracle has his own CRM, PeopleSoft and Siebel, I think 3 CRMs is to much, even for Oracle. Probably Oracle will end with 2 of them or will try to merge them together.
What are the perspectives with Siebel in long term?Since , The question has been answered from the market share point ofview.. wanted to give another dimension of this. As the years passes ,If you are in any of these platforms then along with your specific tool knowledge, Functional Knowledge on the domain and also the technical knowledge on any of languages willl grow up. And gradually you will be able to see the highlevel picture of need->solution to fit->Implementation->sustain.
So as long as we are gaining on the domain expertise its better.If you are there in Siebel for 20 years and after that if you become a delivery level professional. Then the knowledge that you have gained in these years might force you to implement new CRM package other than siebel. :) -
Issue in invoking the siebel service

Here i am poll the data from DB adapter as Requabcs and sent to Siebel services through ProvABCS and i am using after read option is "Delete the Row(s)that were Read" in DB Adapter.When i put the data in DB the DB Adapter polling is working but in ProvABCS it 's always it gives "invokepanding...... ".and it does't give any error .and data also not deleted in DB in EM Instance State shows "completed " .and siebel end services are up.

Weird siebel 8.0 console mode installation problem on OEL 4

When I tried to install Siebel 8.0 SIA build on Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL 4), I encountered a weird problem. It is a sandbox for QA to do testing, everything is on the same machine: oracle database 10.2.0.3, gateway, siebel server and SWSE. I installed oracle database, and make sure the database connection is fine, then I did the following :
1) run install by command "./setuplinux -is:javaconsole -console", it compeleted fine.
2) go to gateway directory, source cfgenv.sh
3) run "ssincfgw -is:javaconsole -console" to do gateway server, enterprise and SWSE logical profile configuration. Gateway configuration is fine, gateway started up successfully. But during enterprise configuration, it throws out a bunch of error messages like :

7) Launch srvrmgr in command line mode:

and it shows "connected to 0 server"
In the SiebSrvr.log file, it shows " SBL-SCC-00025: No value found in the Gateway. Default value in the repository is used."
In the sw_cfg_util.log file, it shows "SBL-SVR-03005: No server connect string for Siebel Component servermgr in Siebel Enterprise siebel, Siebel Server sdc60002sems".
The weirdest part is, if I clean up and uninstall everything, run the install and configure in GUI mode, give the same parameters, I don't get any error messages and siebel server can be up and running fine.
I searched the forum and found people have reported the same error message during enterprise configuration, but says it does not affect them from bring up the siebel server. Since I'm developing an automation to do the installation, I cannot use GUI mode to install. I have to make the command line console mode work and then record the response file for silent install. Does anyone know what might cause my siebel server fail to be up and running ? Thanks a lot for any suggestions and helps.hi,
Make sure that your network uses DNS naming.
This error occurs when a machine is not correctly configured to use DNS naming. The default fully qualified host and domain name presented during installation is not correct.
To successfully install, you need to provide a fully qualified domain name that consists of a local host name along with its domain name.
for example yoursystem is a host name and yourdomain.com is a fully qualified domain name.

Siebel 8.1 SWSE installation problem on Linux
Hi All,
I'm trying to install Siebel 8.1 [21039] on Linux (Redhat 4 with update 5) . I have done my gateway server, enterprise server and siebel server successfully. Then I installed the OHS 10.1.3 and Siebel Web Server Extension as the web server, but at the end of SWSE install, it always give me error message during execute configuration step. The error message is:

It seems complaining about bouncing the web server, but I have no problem manually stop/start web server using opmnctl command

YunLooks like problem in OHS. I'm unable to locate ohs directory, instead i have opmn, i checked the http status and it's running fine ..
$ ./opmnctl status

I think siebenv.sh/csh file is resposible for setting SIEBEL_ROOT veriable and this file is located under siebel server root directory, file cfgenv.sh is only setting library path.
I can see couple of script in ../install_script/install which is being used for setting root and other env variables.
Do we need to execute any of these scripts manually in order to set SIEBEL_ROOT and other env variables or i just need to export it manually with new path?

I am also facing the same issue, on Siebel 8.0 installation on Windows.
The gateway, the siebel entreprise and the webserver extension, succeed, but never the siebel server.
