Its the SIM card that you need to lock. Normally there is no PIN number set, but you should be able to find out how to set one, in the instructions for your mobile.
Once the SIM card has a PIN set, it does not matter which phone its put in, the PIN number will be needed to activate the phone, apart from emergency calls.
If you turn frequently your phone on and off, it can be a bit annoying to keep having to enter your PIN. You only get three tries, to get it right, then the SIM is locked, and you have to ring BT to get a PUK code.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

Talk to your carrier. They are the ones that can activate a SIM lock PIN. It can be turned on it Settings for the Phone, but if you already have one set and cannot remember it, then you need the carrier to disable it.

  • Arc S ICS sim-lock (pin) and APN problems

I had a problem with mobile network APN settings. After Upgrade to ICS I had a working 3G connection, but after less than a week I was unable to use mobile internet. I tired in several different ways to fix APN settings (auto config SMS from provider, manual set and auto config from google servers). Strangely that internet had  been worked KIND OF (just get notifications about facebook changes but can't fully load facebook, can't load web pages or skype, but some internet related notifications worked). Then I found some information on forum that sim-lock (a.k.a PIN) removal could help. And that worked. So I want to inform Sony Ericsson  about this problem. I could give some more information if you tell me how (have some experince in linux bug-tracking and debuging)

We are aware that this was an Android/operator problem back in a older Gingerbread version but I have not noticed it on ICS. I suspect that this might be related to the SIM card. So check if your can use PIN code if you get a new SIM card from you network operator.

When I try to connect to itunes, It states ''The sim card of this phone is PIN locked - please enter the PIN code of your SIM card and connect again to iTunes" however I don't have the option to enter the Pin code on my phone as on my phone screen it states "your iphone could not be activated because the activation server is temporaily unavailable"
    PLEASE HELP AND THANK YOU

    With a sim lock,
you'll have to contact your carrier for the PUK code, as described here:

  • How to unlock an iphone 3gs when it's sim locked and the lock button doesn't work???

I bought this iphone 3gs off an app. I just want to use it as an ipod. it is sim locked (with two attempts left) and the lock button doesn't work at all. What can I do? I just want to use it as an ipod.
I have also tried everything. I took the sim card out and put it back in again. And I have also left it out. And I have tried connecting it to itunes but I need to unlock. (some of these were suggested by the seller)
    Please help me.
    im

My guess - and this is completely a guess - is that the SIM in that phone has a PIN that was added to it by the previous owner. Whomever you bought it from didn't bother to check for this (or didn't care) before they got it from the previous owner.
You need to get a new AT&T SIM for that phone - you could even borrow one from a friend if they have one that will fit the phone. You would only need the SIM to activate it.
There is no way to activate an iPhone without a SIM in it, even if you don't plan to use it as anything other than an iPod.

  • What are the 'sim lock' laws? Seriously.

I really can't find any up-to-date info on the sim lock laws or if there are any. Supposedly late last year there was a law put into place where service providers are required to give you the unlock code if requested.
AT&T did this for me without hesitation but Verizon basically told me to bugger off. I thought it was due to my not having a contract but they just kept claiming that they either didn't know what I was on about or that they were not able to find the information or that they just didn't have the ability to do it. I just want to be able to call them and quote something real of what the law says. My understanding (confirmed by AT&T rep) is each service provider can supply unlock codes for ONLY their branded phones, but everyone is reqiured to do so when asked. I thought.

Nah, you thought wrong, sorry. At least there is no federal law in the US to that effect, perhaps some one or two states have passed something like that although I don't remember it -- and I do sorta keep up with stuff like this.
Anyway. Correct, a carrier 'may' give you the unlock code for a device bought from them. If they want to. If you have service with them. If your account is in good standing. If you've been a customer for 90 days. Different carriers in the US have different polices, the above is/was ATT's and Tmobile's.
Verizon has in the past provided unlock codes to customers of good standing and if asked, when buying a device at full price, off-contract. I don't think that has changed.
If you need a device unlocked inexpensively from a reputable vendor, I'll recommend BlackBerry Unlocks to you. I'll vouch for them, and I think you'll be pleased.

You mean the sim pin? If so, you need to contact your carrier.

  • SIM Card PIN

How does one go about assigning a "PIN" to the SIM Card? The manual suggests it, but when I try to do it, it doesn't accept it and counts me down in attempts. So after it counted me down to 2, I stopped and came here for advice.
I enter settings, phone, SIM PIN. Flip the switch to on and opts me for a password. This is where I get hung up!
    Gunny

    And I can confirm it.
*For UK phones, the default PIN is 0000.*
Just managed to change mine and locked the SIM. Upon restart, the phone displayed *SIM Locked* message with buttons OK and Unock. If you press OK, you can still use the iPhone without, well, the phone. If you try to dial a number, the same message *SIM Locked* appears. Pressing Unlock will give you a similar interface as *Enter Passcode* (you did activate the passcode to lock all your iPhone contacts, photos, mails from a thief's hands, right?), only there's OK confirmation button and you have only three attempts.
Now, can someone find out how to get PUK from O2, just in case?

  • STK SIM card PIN code validation ?

    Dear all,
I'm developing STK applets on GSM SIM cards and I would like to know whether it is possible or not to ask the user for a PIN input (GetInput-command) and then check if that PIN is equal with the real SIM PIN. So the idea would be to use the already existing SIM-PIN instead of an applet's internal OwnerPIN object.
    I couldn't find such a possibility - but maybe I missed something?

    Hi Ginodesoomer,
    Welcome to the support community!
It sounds like you have security enabled on your SIM card. You may wish to disable this to prevent being prompted for the PIN. Please see this KB article for more information. ""Enter PIN" is displayed when the BlackBerry smartphone is locked" KB18647
You can disable this on your BlackBerry Z10 smartphone in Settings > Security and Privacy > SIM Card > SIM Card PIN Lock.
Please let me know if that helps.

  • SIM Lock "10 Strikes and You're Out"

Ok, so after reading everyone's posts on having their iPhones stolen and having exposed themselves because of not having locked their SIM card and thus allowing a thief access to one's private information, I decided to use the "lock SIM" function.
Initially, I keyed in the wrong password and it warned me: "you have 9 attempts remaining"; "you have eight attempts remaining", etc. etc. to where now, I'm at "you have three attempts remaining."
I was able to determine my lock password and thankfully, I will not have any worries about having to purchase a new SIM card for forgetting my password.
But, what if there's a lag and I accidentally key in the wrong password three more times? That has me worried.
Question: Can I somehow tell my iPhone to start the "missed password SIM lock password" back up to 10 attempts?

if i lost it and someone put it in recovery couldnt they just restore it and start a new iphone or something
Sure but this someone would not be able to restore your iPhone from your backup and restoring completely erases the iPhone. The goal with using the Passcode Lock feature is to help prevent someone from accessing any of your private information.
If you contact at&t about your loss and at&t blocks your iPhone's IMEI number, the person who tries to activate your iPhone with at&t won't be able to. This won't prevent someone from hacking your iPhone to unlock it for use with another provider, but the primary goal for the Passcode Lock and SIM PIN is to prevent access to your personal info, and prevent someone from placing calls on your account.

I am trying to unlock my SIM from my iphone 4s, as I am getting a mesage SIM locked. How do I unlock this? Also I am typing in what I think my code is and it is not working. The voice activation wil not allow me to type in the numbers for some reason. I have turned it off and on about 7 times now. please please please can someone help me?

If you bought the iphone in the US and it is locked to a specific carrier, then you can't use a different sim (from another carrier).  Is this your situation?
Otherwise I'm not sure what you mean by "trying to unlock my SIM".  In which country did you buy the iphone?  Who's your carrier?

If you also backed up to your computer - you can restore from that backup - to retrieve the files. As far as I know- that should have no bearing on deleting them from iCloud - they should still be in that backup.
If you used iOS file sharing with your computer - and saved the files to your computer - you can retrieve them from there.
if the only place that the files were saved to was iCloud, I know of no way to get them back.
