?Simple - array problems?

Hey..
This is a simple question, but I have one number that I want to find in an
array of numbers. However, every time I close LABVIEW and reopen the
VI, the array reinitialises to something other than what I originally set
it to.
Easy I know, but very confusing...
Thanks Amie

Thanks. I figured that one out the long way!!

  • Real simple xslt problem/question

    Hi, i have a real simple xslt problem but i just cant figure out how to do it by looking at various examples on the net. i have a xml document and in it are some elements with a "result" tag name. i want to use xslt to reproduce exactly the same xml document except with an attribute called "id" added to those elements with a "result" tag name. i'm sure that theres a simple solution to it but i just cant figure it out. any helps greatly appreciated, thanks

    Start with the XSLT identity transform (I don't have it handy and it's fairly long, but you should be able to google it up). Add this:<xsl:template match="result">
      <result id="">
        <xsl:apply-templates>
      </result>
    </xsl:template>

  • JDeveloper IDE simple setting problem

    Hi,
    Recently we switched to JDeveloper from Visual Cafe .I have a simple setting problem.How can I set the options so that IDE gives, the core java classes and packages,and our application classes and packeges, prompts in imports as well as in code.Where to set the options.
    eg: when I write
    import java. it should prompt all the pakages.
    Thanks in advance.

    I am not sure I understand what you are requesting, but ...
    You can configure JDeveloper projects to include various libraries by default.
    This is done by selecting menu Tools | Default Project Properties.../ Libraries tab.
    You should define a library for your classes.
    You can import any of the packages / classes from all the libraries which your project includes.
    It would be incorrect for a tool to automatically add a bunch of import lines at the top of every file because each file should import what it needs and just as importantly, not import what it does not need depending on the component type (e.g. a servlet should not include javax.swing.* ).
    An easy way to import elements into JDeveloper is to type in something like:
    import java.
    // and then type in Ctrl Space
    and this launches the package browser, you can select packages or classes to import.
    You can also do this at the variable declaratiton point such as typing in:
    foo() {
    Frame x
    // Press Control Alt Space
    and this will correctly change the type (Frame) to the type you select in the package browser and add the import statement.

  • Simple OOP Problem. Help!

    This is just a simple OOP problem that i cant decide on a best
    implementation for.
    im passing an object to an instance of, 'TabbedFrame', which is just
    a frame with a Tabbed Pane in it that is holding custom panels.
    however, these custom panels need access to the object being
    passed to 'TabbedFrame' and to some methods in it.
    i cant make them static however so how do i gain access to them?
    is my only option to pass the 'TabbedFrame' to each panel?
    like - jtabbedpane.add( "Panel 1", new mypanel1(this));
    here is code:
    new TabbedFrame( DataObject );
    public class TabbedFrame{
    public TabbedFrame(DataObject do){
    this.do = do;
    jtabbedpane.add( "Panel 1", new mypanel1() );
    DataObject do;
    public class mypanel1{
    public mypanel1(){
    // need access to DataObject of the 'TabbedFrame' object that instantiated
    // this 'mypanel1' and to some of its methods
    }i would just pass the DataObject to evey panel (there are 12) but
    i also need to be able to call methods in the 'TabbedFrame'.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Modify mypanel1's constructor:
    public class mypanel1{
    TabbedFrame tf;
    public mypanel1(TabbedFrame tf){
    this.tf = tf;
    // need access to DataObject of the 'TabbedFrame' object that instantiated
    // this 'mypanel1' and to some of its methods
    DataObject theDo = tf.getDataObject();
    tf.someMethod(); // Call method on the TabbedFrame
    }In TabbedFrame:
    public TabbedFrame(DataObject do){
    this.do = do;
    // Modify call to constructor to pass "this" TabbedFrame.
    jtabbedpane.add( "Panel 1", new mypanel1(this) );
    }

  • A quick Array Problem

    hey all,
    i'm having a dumb array problem, I cannot figure out what I've done wrong !
    I've set up an empty array of JButtons (because that '4' is actually a variable in my code)
    HERE IS THE CODE
    //===========================
    JButton[] buttons = new JButton[4] ;
    for (int g = 0; g < 4; g++)
    Imag[g].setIcon(imageIcons[g]);
    buttons[g].setEnabled(true);
    System.out.print (buttons[g] + " " + g + "\n");
    //===========================
    My Error is a null pointer exception. And when I take out the:
    buttons[g].setEnabled(true);
    line, I just get the ouput, and it is:
    null 0
    null 1
    null 2
    null 3
    Ok, I know I'm probably making one dumb little mistake, but I have no idea what it is right now, Please Help !! thanks,
    Kngus

    When you want to use an array, you declare it (which you did), construct it (which you did), and initialize it (which the VM did). When you initialize an array of primitives, the primitives get their default value (0 for signed int types, 0.0 for float types, false for boolean, null-character for char) and so do object references (null).
    You are setting up an array of object references. When the VM initializes it, the elements of the array (i.e. the references to the JButtons) are set to null. That's why you're getting the NullPointerException. You need additional code, something along the lines of this:
    for(int j = 0; j < buttons.length(); j++) {
        buttons[j] = new JButton();
    }Now, your buttons array will contain references to JButtons rather than null.

  • Transposing Array Problem

    I need to get the information from a table which has been populated at an earlier point in the program, and convert it to numbers, and then break it up into its individual elements. Both ways of doing this in my attached vi work, but the one method throws three 0's in between columns, when I resize the 2D array to 1D. Any idea why? Is there an easier way to go about this?
    Thanks, Geoff
    Attachments:
    Array Problem.vi ‏26 KB

    Your original table contains 3 extra row which generate 3 rows of zeroes. Your 2D array actually contains 35 elements. the reshape function truncates to 20 elements. After transposing, you throw away nonzero elements while before rehshaping all zeroes are in the tail giving the false apperance of correct behavior.
    The attached modification gives you a button to fix the table size so it works correctly.

  • Simple array of Strings

    Hi, I am new to LabView, however I have programmed in various languages to a moderate level.
    I have attached the vi that I am working on to test a simple array.
    All I want it to do for just now so I can get my head around LabView arrays is simply add the string to the array each time the button is pressed.
    So each time the button is pressed I want to add an new element to the array. So after say 10 presses there should be 10 elements

    Some general suggestions:
    Use latch action boolean (right-click..mechanincal action). This way it is true until read by the code, the reverts autoamtically back to false (no need for the local variable).
    Your sequence structure has no purpose. Adding to the array is basically instantaneous, so you can add the delay outside. The execution order does not matter.
    Pachi: Your Current VI has no wait unless you press the button, meaning it spins like crazy, consuming all CPU while doing nothing. The wait should be outside the case.
    Pachi: You need to initalize the shift register, else it remembers the data from previous runs.
    Pachi: It is much less efficient to add to the beginning of the array. I recommend to add the new element to the end.
    Here's a quick draft...
    (personally, I would use an event structure, but this should get you started).

  • Simple arrays

    hi,
    I am having difficulties with this very simple array (following). I want to store data through a while loop which is why I tried with a very simple example. And it doesn't work. The data is erased every loop, and i must set the dimension of the array (100 for this example) to get something or my array stays at 0... but I won't know it in my VI.
    Thanks for the help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Since you are using Replace array element the element needs to exist prior to rewriting the element.
    Here are two examples in on shot:
    The upper one uses autoindexing, this has the disadvantage that you don't have the data until the loop is finished.
    The lower one uses append array element and feedback notes.

  • RAID 5 array problem

    Hi,
    I've a problem arising from the replacement of a drive in a Proliant ML370 G3 RAID 5 array.
    What happened is one disc in the array failed. I replaced it and selected the "F1" rebuild option. The system then appeared to start the rebuild, both the green arrow and the green HD icon on the replaced disc flashing. However, when I returned to the server, over a week later, I found that the HD light had gone out but the green arrow continued to flash on occasion. I had expected the HD icon to remain illuminated and the arrow to flash every so often. When I checked in Disc Manager (Windows 2003 Server) this reported that although both partitions allocated to the array were healthy, there was no fault tolerance. I have since rebooted the server which then responded that the same disc had failed and presented me with a rebuild option.
    I've now tried to rebuild this array three times without success, the result being the same each time I try. What am I missing?
    I'd appreciate any suggestions
    Phil

    You gave a very nicely detailed list of datum ... thanks, that's rare!
    Now ... one other bit ... you mention media being on the Thunderbolt RAID5 ... is everything there, including cache/database/previews/project-file, or just the media? I know that if say everything else was on the system drive, this would probably happen ... the media is the 'easiest' part of the disc-in/out chain as it's mostly "simple" reading of files, those other things are heavy read/write items. I'm assuming you've probably put most of it on that RAID, as the folks on the Tweaker's Page would oft posit.

  • Associative Array problem in Oracle Procedure

    Hi,
    I've searched through the internet and this forum and haven't been able to resolve a problem using associative array values within an IN clause. Everything I've read states that I can't use the associative array directly in the SQL statement. I have to convert it to a table and then I can use it. Unfortunately, I'm receiving an "ORA-21700: object does not exist or is marked for delete" error when trying to access the table I've populated from the array. Please note that I have verified the table is actually being populated during the loop. I'm catching the error when referencing it in the SELECT statement.
    I've declared the following in the ARCHIVE package specification:
    TYPE RSType IS REF CURSOR;
    TYPE integer_aat IS TABLE OF INTEGER INDEX BY PLS_INTEGER;
    TYPE integer_table IS TABLE OF INTEGER;
    The procedure is as follows:
    PROCEDURE SEL_SEARCH_RESULTS (v_term IN VARCHAR2,
    v_categories IN ARCHIVE.integer_aat,
    rs OUT RSType)
    AS
    /* PURPOSE: Return Search Results for the Category and Keyword Provided

    v_term = Keyword entered
    rs = Result Set

    Thank you for the quick response. I looked at the example you suggested and made the following changes. Now I'm receiving an "Invalid datatype" error on the "SELECT column_value FROM TABLE(CAST(tbl_cat AS tbl_integer))" statement. I must be missing something simple and I just can't put my finger on it.

  • Converting bytes to character array problem

    I am trying to convert a byte array into a character array, however no matter which Character Set i choose i am always getting the '?' character for some of the bytes which means that it was unable to convert the byte to a character.
    What i want is very simple. i.e. map the byte array to its Extended ASCII format which actually is no change in the bit represtation of the actual byte. But i cannot seem to do this in java.
    Does anyone have any idea how to get around this problem?

    Thanks for responding.
    I have however arrived at a solution. A little un-elegant but it seems to do the job.
    I am converting each byte into char manually by this algorithm:
              for (int i=0;i<compressedDataLength;i++)
                   if (((int) output)<0)
                        k=(127-((int) output[i]));
                        outputChr[i]=((char) k);
                   else
                        k=((int) output[i]);
                        outputChr[i]=((char) k);
                   System.out.println(k);
    where output is the byte array and outputChr is the character array

  • Simple array comparison not working. Please HELP!

    I have been struggling to solve this problem for a few days now, and I'm slowly losing my mind.
    I am in Adobe Acrobat 10.
    I have a group of button fields called: btn0, btn1, btn2, etc.
    I have a group of text fields called: txt0, txt1, txt2, etc.
    I have a script that takes the value of txt0 and makes it the caption for btn0, and so on.
    I have a script that sets the MouseUp action of btn0 to setFocus to txt0, and so on.
    These scripts work fine.
    I have a script that takes the values of all the txt fields and puts them in an array, and sorts it.
    I have a script that takes the array[0] item and makes it the caption for btn0, and so on (alphabetizing my list of buttons).
    Those scripts work fine.
    I am trying to compare the value of the array[0] item to each of the txt fields to find the match, and then set the MouseUp action of btn0 to setFocus to the matching txt field, and so on (so my alphabetized list points to the correct locations).
    This is where I'm at a loss.
    Here is what I have:
    //specified the txt fields
    var txt0 = this.getField("Z name");
    var txt1 = this.getField("A name");
    //etc.
    //put their values into an array called rxArray
    var rxArray = [txt0.value, txt1.value]; //etc.
    //sorted the array
    rxArray.sort();
    //set the captions equal to the sorted array items
    for (var i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
        var b = ("btn" + i);
        this.getField(b).buttonSetCaption(rxArray[i]); //works fine; alphabetizes the list of buttons
        //below is what goes wrong
        for(var x = 0; x < 5; x++) {
            var r = ("txt" + x);
            if(rxArray[i] == r.value){
                var s = (r + ".setFocus();");
                this.getField(b).setAction("MouseUp", s);
    //end
    Here is what I know:
    The alphabetizing and labeling works fine, but the buttons' MouseUp scripts don't work at all. Nothing happens.
    If I change the following piece of the above script:
            if(rxArray[i] == r.value){
                var s = (r + ".setFocus();");
                this.getField(b).setAction("MouseUp", s);
    To this:
            if(rxArray[i] == txt1.value){
                var s = (r + ".setFocus();");
                this.getField(b).setAction("MouseUp", s);
    Because rxArray[0] does equal the value of txt1 ("A name"), then the MouseUp script for btn0 gets set to:
    txt4.setFocus();
    So I know that, each time the nested loop runs, the if statement is true, and the setFocus script updates. Until the end of the loop, leaving the setFocus as the last item run. So why doesn't my script work? It should only update the setFocus script IF the array item matches the txt field, and should set it to THAT txt field.
    Please please help. I know I'm missing something simple in there somewhere.

    @Try67:
    That's a good question. I was running into some other issues and have revamped my code. Here is what I have in my test file:
    A list of five buttons and a list of five text fields. One additional button that sets the focus to the next empty text field to add a new item, and two additional buttons, one that sorts my list alphabetically, and one that unsorts it.
    with the following field names
    The sort button calls function sortName and the unsort calls function sortNumber (the order of entry).
    Here are those scripts in final form:
    function sortName() {
    //first reset the captions for the buttons to blank
    for (var a = 0; a < 5; a++) {
        var b = ("btn" + a);
        this.getField(b).buttonSetCaption("");
    var txt0 = this.getField("t0");
    var txt1 = this.getField("t1");
    var txt2 = this.getField("t2");
    var txt3 = this.getField("t3");
    var txt4 = this.getField("t4");
    var rxArray = [txt0.value, txt1.value, txt2.value, txt3.value, txt4.value];
    for(var m = rxArray.length - 1; m > -1; m--){
        if(rxArray[m] == ""){
            rxArray.splice(m, 1);
    rxArray.sort();
    var newArray = [txt0, txt1, txt2, txt3, txt4];
    for(var n = newArray.length - 1; n > -1; n--){
        if(newArray[n].value == ""){
            newArray.splice(n, 1);
    for (var i = 0; i < rxArray.length; i++) {
        var b = ("btn" + i);
        this.getField(b).buttonSetCaption(rxArray[i]);
        for (var x = 0; x < newArray.length; x++) {
            if(rxArray[i] == newArray[x].value){
                var s = ("this.getField('" + newArray[x].name + "').setFocus();");
                this.getField(b).setAction("MouseUp", s);
    //end
    function sortNumber() {
    var txt0 = this.getField("t0");
    var txt1 = this.getField("t1");
    var txt2 = this.getField("t2");
    var txt3 = this.getField("t3");
    var txt4 = this.getField("t4");
    var newArray = [txt0, txt1, txt2, txt3, txt4];
    for (var x = 0; x < newArray.length; x++) {
        var b = ("btn" + x);
        this.getField(b).buttonSetCaption(newArray[x].value);
        var s = ("this.getField('" + newArray[x].name + "').setFocus();");
        this.getField(b).setAction("MouseUp", s);
    //end
    As you can see, I've used the array lengths rather than fixed numbers, except when clearing the button values. I use a number there because there is no array to reference and didn't feel like making an array just for that. The number of buttons won't change.
    I've also added in a splice() method to remove the blank entries from my arrays when appropriate (making using the array length even more important).
    The result of the sort is:
    The only quirk I've found in all this is with the Add New button, which calls function addNew, which is:
    function addNew() {
    var txt0 = this.getField("t0");
    var txt1 = this.getField("t1");
    var txt2 = this.getField("t2");
    var txt3 = this.getField("t3");
    var txt4 = this.getField("t4");
    var newArray = [txt0, txt1, txt2, txt3, txt4];
    for (var i =  newArray.length - 1; i > -1 ; i--) {
        if (newArray[i].value == "") {
            newArray[i].setFocus();
    //end
    For this, I would have though that running through the array from start to finish looking for the first empty text field and setting the focus to it would have been correct. But that resulted in the last empty text field being focused. So I reversed the for loop to run finish to start, and the result was that the first empty field was focused. Not sure why that is...

  • Simple array

    Hi. I'm trying arrays as a beginner and keep running into the same problem. The error I keep getting is "class, interface or enum expected". I recently installed the new Java 1.6.0_06....
    I started off with a array of arrays and since that didn't work I tried a very simple one which didn't work either.
    http://mindprod.com/jgloss/compileerrormessages.html has a glossary of error meanings which I tried but didn't work.
    Thanks.

  • Search 1D array problem

    Hey guys,
    I'm trying to write (what I imagine) is a simple program to progressively step through a text file in array format, honing in on the maximum value, while comparing values along the way (the attached code will do a better job of explaining).  I am aware that I could simply use a maximum value find to obtain what I am looking for, but this is just a simple exercise to simulate something a bit more difficult I'll be doing down the road, thus I have real reasons for doing this all backwards.
    The problem I run across is when using the "search 1D array" command, it only works on certain elements.  For instance, if you load the code I have attached along with the input file, and input a crystal angle of "40" and a an angle offset of "0.01", then run in highlight mode, you'd see that as soon as it got to search for element 40.02, inside the for loop, it wouldn't find element 40.02 in the file and jump the result to "-1" and keep running, but yielding bogus results.  The problem is that 40.02 DOES exist in the array (search for element 198 in the output array to find it).  In addition, if you input 40.02 as the initial starting angle, with the same 0.01 offset, the first run works just fine (finding element 40.02 this time, when not executing in the loop) but bombing out on the search for 40.06, again yielding a value of -1 when the 40.06 actually exists.
    This same type of behavior occurs throughout the array, with certain elements being "un-reachable" via the "Search 1D Array" command when used in the loop, but being reachable when searched for from the initial start, and consistency being shown in the "un-reachable" elements when the code is run over and over.  Again, running the code in highlight mode will clear up any questions about the problem statement, I believe.
    Does anyone have an explanation as to why this is occurring and how to fix it?  I thought maybe it was in the string to number conversion, but that doesn't make sense since it can find the numbers outside the loop, but not in it.
    I am running Labview version 7.0 for the record.
    Thanks!
    ~Jack

  • Array problems

    Hello NI Forums, I currently develping a VI to specify voltages that will be send to device which will be directing two mirrors. The idea and set-up are pretty basic, but actually programming it is an issue. The X and Y arrays both have elements that correspond to a point on a coordinate grid. For example, my elements in my grid for the X might be [-2,-1,0,1,2] and my Y could be [-2,-2,-2,-2,-2]. The problem however is that I need one more X and Y value so I can step down in the grid and trace back in the X array. For example, my next row of elements will be [-2,-1,0,1,2] for X and [-3,-3,-3,-3,-3] for Y. However,the way my program is written my last Y value is one less than than previous element. Thus, ideally I would form an array that would have an extra X element which would correspond to the step down in voltage on the Y axis. This would be ideal : [-2,-1,0,1,2,2] for x and [-3,-3,-3,-3,-3,-4] for y.
    Sorry for this question is a little poorly worded. The application of this program is quite simple, but I seem a little stumped.

    Just use the Ramp Pattern VI for your arrays.  I don't see a point in creating a large array for your X and Y when they are just repeating.  Generate a ramp for your X and another ramp for your Y.  You can then use a FOR loop inside of another FOR loop.  Have the outer FOR loop iterate on the Y and the inner FOR loop iterate on the X.  With that setup, you can set up your coordinates and have much smaller arrays.
    Give this VI a try to see if it helps simplify your program.
