Simple, basic issue - Sending a few clips at once from FCP to STP and back.

Hi,
I'm working on a 20 minute video, already cut, hoping to do some simple sound reduction on a few clips.
One scene has two video clips from the same camera shot, wind noise on the audio.
Can I send two or more clips to STP at the same time?
When I try that, the whole 1 hour tape (I did a batch capture) appears in the STP timeline.
Is there a way to send the clips so only those clips go to STP, not the whole original clip in the browser?
Once I do the noise reduction, why can't I get it to automatically apply to the clips in FCP?
I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what.
Any ideas, anyone?
Thanks!

Multi-track projects won't behave like audio file projects, with automatic updates in FCP. Once you have saved the project, export a mix, and you can send it back to your FCP timeline in the dialog box.

    No, never had the problem.

  • I can't "send" a clip to Color from FCP because it's not an option.....

    I have FCP Studio w/ Color loaded, as well as Soundtrack and Motion, however when I right click on the clip and choose the "send" to option Color is not part of the drop down menu where Motion and Soundtrack both are.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Bill

    You can either send the whole sequence to Color or create a new sequence (command+N) copy and paste your desired clip/s and send that new sequence by either control/right clicking the new sequence in the browser>send to> Color or go to File send to>Color.
    You can still send your highlighted clip to Color and the application will open keeping your clip highlighted but the rest of the sequence will show up too.
    Please note that communication between FCP and Color is handled thanks to XML transfer.

  • Sending multitrack Project from FCP to STP on another computer doesn't work

    Hello,
    I attempted to search the forums but can't find my specific problem mentioned. I apologize if I overlooked it!
    I am attempting to send a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project from Final Cut Pro 6.01 to Soundtrack Pro 2.01 on another computer. When I do, the video comes through fine but the audio fails to transfer over.
    Here's what I did:
    First I open the Final Cut Project, highlight all the clips in the sequence to send and click "Send to Soundtrack Pro MultiTrack Project". I select all options including the "Fully Rendered Video" Option. This project opens up great in Sound Track Pro on the original computer. In Soundtrack Pro I "save as" and make sure I select "Collect Audio Files", "Collect unused audio files", & "Collect Video File". As far as I have read, this should be all I need to make sure all of the audio and video clips transfer together with the STP file.
    However, when I place this folder (including the media files) on a external hard drive and transfer it on to our other computer (set up for audio recording and editing) and open it up in STP I get no audio. The clips visually transfer and all the clip lengths match up with the video, however there is no waveform showing. A straight line at 0db is all that shows up. I check the clips in the bin and they show the same file size as on the first computer. When I select an audio clip and take a look at the actions tab it shows the name of the clip and under it it says "insert silence" (which was not there on the original computer). When I de-select the insert silence the audio still does not play (the straight line on the waveform disappears). I try deleting the "insert silence" action and the same thing happens.
    I have tried doing this operation mulitple ways with the same result. Am I doing something wrong? The only thing I can think of is the file starts out on OSX 10.4.11 and is transfered over to leopard 10.5. I just tried doing the reverse operation (creating the file from the audio computer and sending it to the video computer) and everything works fine. No idea what this means. I need this to work the other way around so I can begin the extremely intensive audio work on this film while our editor continues the video edits so thank you very much for any help that you can lend me. It is greatly appreciated.

    Could be a difference in OS's causing the problem, but I can't say for sure. You could try using the OMF export option instead. I almost guarantee it will work.

  • Workflow that maintains clip handles going from FCP to Motion & back

    I have a 25 minute Final Cut Pro sequence that consists of about 200 clips each about 7 seconds long. Each clip has a different linear speed change applied to it. I've already run the project through Media Manager, adding 5 second handles to each clip. I've been told by my color corrector that before sending the project to him I should send all the clips to Motion and apply optical flow for the speed changes there. The short version of my question is: Can I trouble anyone to suggest an efficient workflow in which I can send the entire sequence to Motion and have it make the round trip back to FCP as a sequence in which the motion files have been swapped in for the original clips and the handles of the original clips have been maintained on those Motion files?
    What I've been doing is selecting the sequence in FCP and sending it to Motion. Once the sequence is in Motion I seem to have to apply optical flow to each of the 200 clips individually rather than to the group a whole, because with multiple clips selected Motion seems to want to apply the same averaged-out time remap to all of them. So I apply optical flow to the 200 clips one-by-one and Motion inevitably crashes several times during that process. After I've finally set all the clips individually to optical flow I then select the clips and choose export selection. I then have to wait by my computer for several hours while Motion asks me over and over again "Some optical flow files are outdated. What do you want to do?" I assume these prompts are the result of the Motion having crashed while the clip was still being analyzed for optical flow. Finally when this process is done, I have a series of clips without handles that I have to tediously re-import back into the original FCP sequence.
    I'm using FCP 7.03 and Motion 4.0.3.
    Any thoughts anyone might have would be HUGELY appreciated!!! Thanks in advance for the help!
    Best,
    Neil

    Hi Neil,
    About the handles: What do you need them for?
    If the edit is not too complicated and almost all on V1, you can think of a workaround which is very tedious, and I doubt whether it will make you happy.
    On V1 the original cuts. So you will always be able to find them back.
    Then Copy everything to V2. And from there put every other clip on V3. (So clip A on V2, clip B on V3 , clip C on V2, etc. And now by selecting the cuts and type +500 or -500, you can extend the clips.
    Like in the picture below.
    Again V1 is the original edit and is there to repair the cuts on V2 and V3 later on.
    (I used slug and Generators for this exemple. Off course they all stand for normal clips.)
    After that you do your Motion Magic, like Patrick explained.
    And back in FCP cut V2 and V3 back like V1 is.
    Delete V1, and done.
    Well, that's the theorethical part. I hope it somehow can help you in practice, because I assume your edit will be more complicated then the example...
    I once did this trick with
    Also: When you send your normal clip to Motion (So from track V1, then in Motion you can increase the value in the duration Tab (Timeline, top right, then extend the clip and then save. You know can use the handle in FCP. Not sure how to achieve that for the beginning of the clip. You should try that yourself....

  • Locking clips, adding slideshows from iphoto to imovie and reverting clips.

    I have a few questions about imovie HD 6.
    1. I am working on adding snips of video and pictures to my imovie project. However, I have several small clips that I want to add to a single audio clip. Is there a way to lock several video clips to my audio clip? It seems as though when I try to add another 'lock' the first one disappears. (I thought of maybe splitting the audio clip up. Is there an easier way that i'm not seeing?)
    2. Is there a way to keep the quality from an iphoto slideshow after importing it into imovie. Is it even possible to import an iphoto slideshow into imovie?
    3. I had a large 1 hour clip that I split up into 20 or 25 clips. I then added some effects to some of the clips. If I decide later that I do not want a particular effect and click the 'revert to original' button. Will it revert my entire 'library' of clips that I created back into the 1 hour clip I started with?
    Thanks,
    Elly

    1. The function locks an audio clip to a video clip, not a video clip to an audio clip. So, after locking an audio clip to a video clip, if you then lock the audio clip to another video clip it will unlock the first one. That's why you are observing that the lock disappears. If you lock the audio clip to the first video clip in a series, that will keep the audio clip in place for the entire series when you slide the first clip along the time line, pushing the other video clips ahead of it. I would not split up the audio clip into several pieces, unless you intend to move or change the sequence of the individual video clips.
    2. In iMovie playback, your iPhoto images are displayed in low resolution. Therefore, your iPhoto images always will look worse in iMovie playback. However, the display in your final product DVD will look much clearer than in iMovie playback. Yes, you can export an iPhoto slide show into iMovie. The best way that I have found is to use the iPhoto file menu to export the slideshow to your desk top as a full quality Quicktime Movie (File/Export/Full Quality) and then drag that Quicktime movie into your iMovie project as one long clip. You can also drag it directly into an iDVD project as a movie.
    3. The "revert" function will operate only on the split clip that you select to revert. The remaining split off clips will remain un-reverted. For example, if you split a clip into clips A, B, and C, and then revert clip A back to the original, clip A will revert back to the entire original clip that you had split into A, B, and C. (In your case, that would be the entire one hour clip that you started with, with no effects in it.) So clip A will now also include B and C and all other clips that you may have split from the original clip. But B and C also will still remain untouched as additional separate clips. That leaves you with having to re-edit clip A to avoid having repetitious clips. Rather than using the "revert to original" function to clear an effect from a clip, instead use the "clear" function. Each time that you use the "clear" function on a clip, it will remove the last added effect from the selected clip but will not effect any of the other clips.
    I hope that I have answered your questions. I suggest that you set up a small test iMovie project and experiment with the "revert" and "clear" functions.

  • Transferring clips from iMovie to FCE and back without losing quality

    I wish to export a clip from an iMovie HD 6.0.3 DV PAL Widescreen project into FCE HD 3.5.1 to apply a video filter and then export it back into iMovie . Can anyone tell me what settings to use for the exports/imports and also which Easy Setup to use in FCE, in order to do this without any loss of video quality (apart from any resulting from applying the filter). The clip is a DV clip captured originally from a Canon XL H1. Thanks.

    Tom,
    I'm still having problems. Final import back into iMovie is poor quality and slightly squashed (Black space at left hand side). My import and export settings are probably not exactly right. Would appreciate it if you could tell me in detail what these settings should be. Thanks again for your help so far and apologies for taking up your time.
    Maurice.

  • Send part of audio file, not the entire file, from FCP to STP

    Is there an easy way to send only part of an audio file to STP as an audio file project from FCP 5.1.2?
    Everything that I've tried so far always sends the entire audio file for processing in STP.
    1) using the blade tool to slice the audio
    2) creating a subclip of a piece of audio
    3) setting in/out points in both the timeline and the viewer
    I realize that I could export the piece of audio and then import that into FCP and then send that to STP, but that is a lot of work.
    Is there an easier way?
    Thanks,

  • Simple Transformation from ABAP to XML and back

    Hi experts,
    Can anyone provide me a simple example of a 'simple transformation' that will convert and internal table with more than one column into XML via a simple transformation.
    I've spend days now reading SAP help and e-learning examples, but this just won't work and I am getting short dumps saying 'The goal was to access variable "ROOT". However, this access was notv possible.'
    Here is my ABAP:
    data: begin of struc,
               counter type i,
               aname type string,
               aname2 type string,
          end of struc.
    data: cnt_c type c.
    data: itab like table of struc with HEADER LINE,
          xml_string type xstring.
    do 3 times.
         move sy-index to: itab-counter, cnt_c.
         concatenate 'nameA' cnt_c into itab-aname.
         concatenate 'nameB' cnt_c into itab-aname2.
         append itab.
    enddo.
    CALL TRANSFORMATION Z_ST_TEST5
           SOURCE  ROOT = itab
           RESULT XML xml_string.
    CALL FUNCTION 'DISPLAY_XML_STRING'
      EXPORTING
        XML_STRING            = xml_string.
    skip 1.
    and here is my ST:
    <?sap.transform simple?>
    <tt:transform xmlns:tt="http://www.sap.com/transformation-templates">
      <tt:root name="ROOT"/>
        <tt:template>
         <TABLE>
          <tt:loop ref=".ROOT" name="line">
            <ITEM>
              <counter>
                <tt:value ref="$line.aname" />
              </counter>
              <name>
                <tt:value ref="$line.aname" />
              </name>
              <name2>
                <tt:value ref="$line.aname2" />
              </name2>
            </ITEM>
          </tt:loop>
         </TABLE>
        </tt:template>
    </tt:transform>

    Figured it out. The interla tables used in teh call transformation statement can never have a header line.

  • How does a 1.6-gig clip become an 11-gig clip when exported from FCP?

    I captured some video and had to do it in two sessions because my camera kept dropping frames. My first clip was 600 megs, my second was 1 gig. I put them into the timeline and synced them up at the break spot. I wanted to have just one file to work on in Shake, so I exported the two clips as a Quick Time movie -- no compression, self-contained -- a 720 X 480 NTSC file.
    Even with no compression, I expected to get a 1.6-gig movie out of the export, but it was 11 gigs. Where did the extra data come from? And what is the extra data? It cannot get any more resolution than there was to begin with in the original two clips, right?
    Any tips on a more efficient way to handle this situation much appreciated.
    JimBe

    The two segments were each about three and a half minutes long. The camera was a Sony Handycam DV. I did not have any special settings when I captured, I made one choice, to capture both video and audio. Yes, I did select uncompressed when I exported.
    So the camera is acquiring with a codec, it sounds like, but if I select uncompressed on export does that mean FCP will uncompress the compressed footage captured by the camera? I did not think that was possible. Isn't all the information thrown away by the camera when it acquires the footage with its codec?
    I was thinking that "uncompressed" export would just give me back what I put in, a 1.6-gig file. I did not want to compress a second time.
    Is there an export format choice that just gives you what you had without any manipulation of the original data?

  • UCCE send a caller from agent to IVR and back to the same agent

    Hello,
    I am trying to come up with a way to implement the following logic in UCCE 7.5 with IP IVR 7.0
    A caller gets to an agent and requests a service that requires identification
    The agent sends the caller back to IVR for identification
    UCCE reserves the agent. If caller hangs up the agent is chaged back to ready state.
    After authentication the caller is taken back to the same agent.
    I am not sure how to do steps 3 and 4. I need to be sure that the agent will be available to take the call and not make the customer wait again in queue. I guess I just need a variable to store the agent ID and pass it to the other script so it can make a queue to agent step, but then how do I make the agent reserved or not ready (so he's not taken by another call) and then present the same call back to him? Then I need a way to monitor the customer's activity in IVR and notify the agent if the customer dropped the call.
    Tough one...
    Stoyan

    Hi Stoyan
    I've been looking into the same thing, did you find a solution yet?  I had considered letting the Agent do a transfer to the IVR, collect the Agent ID (or if possible the instrument number they were currently logged in with) for routing back to the Agent.  Set the Agent to permanent Not Ready so they don't receive any other Contact Centre calls.  Let the IVR play out as long as it takes without having to calculate for retries etc. or leaving long delays before the agent can be reached again.   If I could only set the AgentID in the transfer script I would perform a database lookup on the ICM real time tables to find out what extension they were currently logged in with and route direct to that (reachable even if in the Not Ready state).  The main implication of this would be that I would lose visibility of the remainder of this call with regards the skill group statistics.  However, the default skill group could be set for each agent to account for this....not ideal as reporting would become more manual but still recorded at some level.
    Regards
    Brenda

  • Sending files from FCP to STP

    after migrating stuff from my old mac book to my new imac (w lion os) i am unable to send segments from final cut to sound track. selection is grayed out although selections for motion,shake,color, and soundtrack pro script are in black. don't have that problem with my old mac book. would it have something to do with the lion OS? if so, what to do and if not, what do you think would be the problem?
    bob rittner

    I suggest you read up on Permissions Repair:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452
    In a nut shell, sometimes, especially since you migrated, files ownership isn't changed on all files, etc... and this does not allow programs to function properly. So running a permissions repair will correct this.
    For the preferences, at times these become corrupted. So you need to delete them to make new ones.... But if you use Preference Manager, you won't accidentally delete the wrong file AND you can back up your old preference file in case deleting doesn't help and you can get your old preferences and presets back.

  • Whats the best way to import video clips from FCP into a personal template

    Hey all, I'm doing some tests. I see some color shifting going on when I export out of FCP using QT conversion (same settings as sequence), Importing into Motion, then adding lower third graphics, then exporting out of Motion .... and finally back to FCP. I put the new graphic added layer on top and have the original on bottom. I toggle the monitor on both layers and see a slight saturation drop on the graphic layer. Has anyone noticed that ?
    The reason Im doing this is because lets say I have lower thirds that I want to place throughout a hour show. I want to set-up a basic lower third template and just plug in the video clips for the areas that I need those graphics. It would be way to difficult to export out of the timeline in FCP
    and rebuild those lower thirds everytime in Motion. Does anyone know of a better way or does everyone have to export out to the desktop and then into Motion every time they want to use a Motion template.
    Thanks to any replies.

    Try roundtripping from FCP to Motion and back using Send to Motion. In FCP, Control Click your clip>Send To>Motion Project. The clip will open in Motion with the proper project properties. Make your edits there, press Save, and then render back in FCP. No exporting necessary, although you might see a gamma shift. Much easier.
    To do this with an existing Motion template, I'd try copying and pasting in that template's contents once you've sent to Motion from FCP.

  • Missing audio when sending from FCP

    When I send my project to Soundtrack Pro from FCP, Soundtrack opens and loads everything up, but oddly some audio clips show no waveform, and contain no sound, but the sound is clearly present and working in FCP.
    What could be causing this?

    mrjam, I am having the same exact problem. I have a sequence in FCP and am using the "send to "Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project" command. I have tried this almost 30 times now and only twice has it worked properly, i have no clue what was different these two time and tried to repeat the process the exact same way to no avail. What a pain. I have no clue why this function doesn't work. I have a mono pair in FCP and when i "Send to.." there are no waveforms in STP at all, and of course, no audio. Funny thing is it did work twice! Sounds like a major bug! Have you had any luck?
