Simple/easy, test your knowledge!

Hi All,
Coming from a C/C++ background, please assist us with the following:
1) Is there an equivalent in java for "memset" and "memcpy". I have an array of bytes:
byte[] bTxBuffer = new byte(512);
and I hava a need to set all the array elements with '0' using one command as opposed to set a (for i=0; i <5122; i++) ...
In C++ we do memset(&bTxBuffer, 0 , 512);
Likewise I need to copy a chunck of data to the byte array using one statement, like memcpy.
2) How can I cast integer to byte. I have the following:
int iAddress = 12;
byte[] bTxBuffer = new byte(512);
I've tried:
bTxBuffer[4] = (byte)iAddress;
but the compiler complains about loss of precision. The variable iAddress value will never be more than 255, but it needs to be type integer for other reasons;
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Trajano

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/java/util/Arrays.html
public static void fill(int[] a, int fromIndex, int toIndex, int val)
should take care of that memset problem.
memcpy ? i didn't find exact method, but search the api, maybe System has somethint (i didn't look there)
if you know that iAddress is never more than 255, then you actually don't lose any precision, but the compiler doesn't know that, thats why it is warning you.
BTW:
java.lang.System:
arraycopy(Object src, int srcPos, Object dest, int destPos, int length)
you wellcome

  • Test your knowledge questions

    Hello,
    It would be interresting to get access to some "test your knowledge" questions & answers sets.
    I have to give a test to some 10 trainees that I am giving the NET310 training and it would be great to have access to a professionally prepared set of questions & answers for this (just like in other BC4xx training courses).
    Anyone can help me on this topic?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

    Hi traja,
    Let me answer one by one.
    1. For updating values using single SQL, use
    statement.executeUpdate(" UPDATE TABLE SET MYFIELD=MYFIELD"+qty+"WHERE.....");
    qty is just a string variable.
    2.To enter null values for a date field, use two single quotes without a space. For eg,
    String mydate="''";
    Don't use null;
    3.You can use the javascript object Date to get the current date(only client and not server date);
    For eg,
    var mydate=new Date();
    You can then parse mydate to get the month, day and year. Also, the Date object has different constructors, for different date formats. You can use them too.
    Hope this helps.

  • Fake Flash Drives Threaten PCs and Networks Alike! Did You Test Yours?

    Hello Brothers;
    I wanted to post this in the more mainstream Mac forums because it really does affect everyone who purchases flash drives or ANY memory product online.
    In the past year, eBay and Amazon have been flooded with counterfeit flash drives that look identical to name brands. They look JUST LIKE the real deal. I know. Last month I unwarily bought a "Kingston" flash drive on eBay. Though PayPal grudgingly reimbursed me, this goes FAR beyond my being swindled.
    Thousands of these fake drives have been purchased on eBay and Amazon as graduation and birthday gifts and party flavors and are landing in the unwary hands of those who jobs cannot tolerate data corrupted by one missing digit. When you walk past a hospital or construction site or industrial plant, someone there is plugging a flash drive into computers for precise medical and drug formula info or to feed instructions to heavy machinery or control a chemical plant or an aspect of our communications infrastructure. Maybe even computers aboard military aircraft and ships. This is an insidious and malignant issue that deserves FAR more attention by media and government than it has.
    You can heads-up on this issue, find victim redemption assistance and test your flash drive at: http://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/
    Please write to your local TV station and political representative about this pernicious blight! The person you eventually help might be you! Would you want the doctor or med tech managing your mother in a hospital to be carrying a fake flash?

    Sounds like all of the troubleshooting regarding your home's wiring has been done. The noise on the phone line says what the problem is, and we should address the issues with voice FIRST before we start dealing with the DSL. Generally, once the phone is solved, the DSL will follow along.
    Since you're receiving noise on the line, especially when the DSL is online you need to give Verizon a call during the time of the static from another line. Use a cell phone or a neighbor's line. When prompted, enter in your phone number and then navigate to Technical Support to the Telephone Repair section. When the agent comes on, tell them you are receiving Intermittent Static. They should proceed to perform a test called the MLT test, which will check your copper loop for any problems that may be developing such as shorts or unusual resistency (which can cause issues with DSL and phone). If the test picks up a problem, the agent should immediately be able to write up a trouble ticket with the details of the test for a technician to repair it. Just be aware, do NOT answer the phone or use your phone line while the test is ran. Stick to the alternate phone you are dialing support from. It requires the copper loop to be idle. DSL can be kept on with no problems. While in the call and when the tech visits (if they need to stop down), do NOT mention the DSL. Let them do the task of repairing the phone line. Once the problem is solved, you should see the DSL line stabalize, and if the statistics improve enough, the speed return and increase past the highest levels you've seen in a few days.
    Your line should be short enough to have 3Mbps running on it. Just need to get the loop repaired

  • How do you test your new laptops?

    To the gurus or people who have researched this question:  How do you test your new laptops?
    When you get a new laptop, what do you do to test it?
    My X1Carbon might arrive in a couple weeks, and reading about all the failures and DOAs is scary. So assuming mine is not simply DOA, how do you shake out the less obvious or more obscure problems?
    I did search for this info before posting. One other person asked the question,
    >> Would appreciate advice re optimal set-up and what testing/diagnostics to do to determine if ther...
    but no one answered.

    With testing I start with the basics and work my way to the harder stuff.
    Inspect the external condition of the machine.
    Boot and enter the BIOS before Windows. Review settings then power off.
    Boot from Acronis True Image Home backup/recovery DVD and clone HDD or SSD and thus the factory image before it's ever booted to Windows.
    Boot to Windows and look carefully at the Lenovo factory image and try to get an understanding for the Lenovo software and why it is there.  This does not include the other software from Microsoft, Google, etc.
    Create Lenovo Factory Image DVD set with Rescue and Recovery.  Throw disk set in the box or put on the shelf in case the machine is ever re-sold.
    Test all of the ports - I test every port on the machine for my expected usage.  For instance, in the case of the X1 Carbon I would confirm the mini DisplayPort connection works correctly with an external LCD panel.  If the machine had a IEEE firewire port or something, test that.  Test the USB 3.0 ports with a known working external external enclosure and verify transfer speeds.
    Test the SSD speed with CrystalDiskMark, ATTO and AS Disk Benchmark software to get a good overview of the performance.
    Install HWiNFO and look carefully at the components.  Observe turbo boosting, thermals and fan RPM over the course of a few days for battery and AC power.
    Do at least one full battery discharge and recharge.  Observe the cycle and details are being properly displayed and recorded in Lenovo Power Manager.
    Download all software and drivers from support.lenovo.com for the model being tested.  Confirm visually you have all the core components needed.  Core includes the drivers, power management driver, Power Manager, hotkeys, etc.
    Flatten the machine and install Windows or Linux from scratch.  Install drivers and software.
    Re-test ports and confirm the machine is working properly.
    Benchmark the SSD again.  Confirm no change.
    Install HWiNFO and confirm turbo, thermals and fan speeds are still proper.
    Install core applications and test them.  There may be core features in Windows that also need to be installed and tested.  For instance, Windows 8 Hyper-V for virtualization.
    Connect any external devices you expect to use and test them.  For instance, video cameras, smartphones, mp3 players, digital cameras, printers, USB docks, etc.
    Do several battery tests with your typical applications and behavior.  The goal here is to simulate how the machine will be used in your day-to-day setting or travel scenarios.  I usually do at least three tests.  This can be rather time consuming with long battery life machines so I get a lot of other testing out of the way first.
    By the time you get to this point, if you haven't hit any major roadblocks you'll start to have a good feel for the machine, and if it is going to be a keeper or not.  The assumption here is that during this timeframe you have been observing the screen, keyboard, and trackpad performance to see if it's to your liking.  The other assumption is that you are using the machine and applications in the scenarios you are purchasing it for.
    I don't run synthetic benchmarks.  I prefer to test a machine against the scenarios I expect to use it with.  I spend most of the first week making this assessment.  If any major hardware defects are present, the machine is automatically returned.  I do not repair machines just received.  No exceptions.
    Week 2 is for ironing out any minor issues and assessing if the machine meets the requirements for the scenarios it will support.  If it does, it is kept.  If it does not, it is returned.  This week includes subjective and objective input.  You have to weigh the pros and cons for a machine against your priorities. It is rare that a machine is perfect so you have to decide the ROI for the machine.  Service and Support must be considered so week two might include a call to support for any unresolved issues.  Don't discount the service you receive during this period.
    After week two, you are likely right on top of the last day to return a Lenovo machine.  The return period is 21 days from the invoice date (I believe), not the day the machine is received so make sure you are well aware of it.  After 21 days, the machine is yours for good unless you sell it.  Decision time.
    Good luck.

  • Best way to do a simple Boolean test?

    Hello All,
      Trying to do a simple Boolean test, but it is proving to be more complicated than I would have expected.  Hoping that I am missing something simple.
    I have a Labview code module that provides a Boolean value for the output.  I want to evaluate this value and provide pass/fail results to the report.  Sounds simple, but here is what I am running into:
    -The built-in NI step type "Pass/Fail Test" will evaluate the Boolean directly with True=Pass, and False=Fail.  This would be fine, except that I have situations where I need False to equal Pass.  I've read a few posts that speak of inverting or negating the Boolean result, but they all involve passing the result to a parameter or variable, and then evaluating it outside of the test step.  This adds several layers that I don't think I should need.
    -I have read a post that suggested I convert the Boolean to a numeric inside of the code module.  This does indeed make sense, but this is not practical in my situation because of the scale and implementation of my code modules.  I use custom type definitions for controls and indicators from a Labview project, and would have to create a new control/indicator for every one if I wanted to change the data type.
    -Next logical step was to see if the "Numeric Limit Test" would recognize a Boolean.  Turns out it doesn't.
    -After this, I looked into creating a custom step type.  This would probably be the most useful, but it is beyond my current ability to do so.  I got as far as making a copy of the built in step type and putting it in the custom "MyTypes" directory, but I have made very little progress in editing it to make it a work.  Additionally, I've read a few posts that recommend avoiding custom step types.
    Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.  Please advise.
    Thanks,
    GSinMN
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    You could change the Data Source based on what value you want.  Since there doesn't appear to be an logical XOR, you will need to use a case statement.  For example, you could do:
    Locals.Desired? Step.Result.PassFail:!Step.Result.PassFail

    do you have to deploy the java class on vmc server to debug it
    Yes
    - So, the classes have to be compiled error free and uploaded to VMC.
    - VMC has to be restarted to test your classes.
    - You have to set the log levels appropriately for your classes using SM53 / SM52.
    -  You can also perform VMC debug through Eclipse.

    http://techpaedia.com/apple/2006/08/27/testing-your-macbook-for-random-shut-down s/
    i encourage yo uto all check that out, im running the test right now, hoping for the best
    for all of you people who know your stuff, could this be bad for my computer?

    The procedure will not harm a normal MacBook. It will cause the fans to run at fairly high speed to keep the CPU cool. (If your fans were broken or disconnected, then the CPU would overheat; that's why I said "normal.")
    I recently read someone conjecture that the GMA950 graphics chip can overheat, causing a shutdown. This may be what they're trying to test with the procedure.
    I've also seen speculation that there's a mechanical short between the top case and the main logic board. If that's the cause of the shutdowns, then I don't see the "yes" procedure having any value.

    Are you using LabVIEW? If so perform the following:  I did this on the TS 2012 and LV 2012.
    1.) Right click on the button lableled 'ENTRYPOINT1] and select Advanced-> Enable State -> Disabled & Greyed
    2.) Now in the code open the ConfigureSequenceFileView Manager.vi
    In the first ConnectCommand invoke node,the one where you are setting 'CommandKind_ExecutionEntryPoints_Set' with Index 0.  This would be the Test UUTs execution entry point.
    Set the 'opts' parameter to 0x4.  Here is the help on the options parameters:
    CommandConnection_EnableImage–(Value: 0x8) The connection sets the image on the connected control.
    CommandConnection_IgnoreCaption–(Value: 0x2) The connection does not set the caption on the connected control.
    CommandConnection_IgnoreEnable–(Value: 0x4) The connection does not enable or disable the connected control.
    CommandConnection_IgnoreVisible–(Value: 0x1) The connection does not change the visibility of the connected control.
    CommandConnection_NoOptions–(Value: 0x0) No options.
    So my disabling the button in LabVIEW and 'ignoring' it via the 0x4 parameter should work.  Otherwise without the 0x4 it seems to ignore the LabVIEW setting that you actually disabled the button.
    Good luck,
    PH

  • Simple easy first time install

    ATV160 arrived yesterday. Install was simple and easy. It detected TV, "n" network running from TC, downloaded and installed updates without a hitch. I was streaming iTunes content within 45 minutes of unpacking, maybe less. Synched music and video overnight by wifi. Very pleased so far and just have to select photos now.
    No problems as mentioned on forums so far, menus, artwork and all else seem to work well.

    Scott,
    You can just run the install script as you suggest in your second paragraph.
    The Companion CD has a couple of other programs on it and I believe it uses the OUI to get the info required then runs the install script for you.
    I believe the 1.6 zip file was put up on its own because demand for the new version was so high and it would have been unnecessary to generate a complete new Companion CD just for 1.6.
    Good luck.

    etc...
    So I expect the library references should be resolved looking at the manifest file.
    Another set of entries that I see in the jdev classpath are related to the Model project which is under test.
    -classpath
    D:\CurrentProject_1\16_7_2013_3pm\11_7_2013\.adf;
    D:\CurrentProject_1\16_7_2013_3pm\11_7_2013\Model\classes;
    How do I put these entries into my class path? Will it be sufficient if I add the Model.jar into my test project classpath?
    Thanks,
    Sapna
