Simple GUI for ProjectServer

Hi,
i need a simple SharePoint-From to create projects with custom fields and show/update projectplan layers (Milestone, Date, Time, Description, Ressource...). Is it possible to do this programmatically? The Projectserver ist to complex for our user
and the licencecosts for the PWA are very expensive for a simple use. Does anyone have
other suggestions? Thanks. Chris

Hi Chris,
I think you can achieve something without programming anything. It is just a matter of creating a SharePoint list with all required fields (description etc.) and another list for the project tasks and use one of the SharePoint columns to link with the project
list. You can create multiple lists if you want to manage the project task list using separate lists but it will make a little bit more difficult to manage reporting across all projects and, in the same time, it will make it easier to migrate to project server
should you want to do so at some stage
Hope this helps
Paul

    I really need your help here. I have used this Client, and it works fine, but i need to add a GUI interface to it, to make it look professional. Unfortunatly, i am not a programmer, and have no background in programming. All what i need is just a simple Gui, where all typings occur. Can anyone help me, in adding a simple GUi to this client code?

    Tried it, worked as expected. Nice simple interface (maybe add a close button on the info window, well, maybe it's normal like this, i just don't like killing windows from outside(the window manager)).
    Not that i'd use it, i rarely change my background image and if i do i do it via feh or similar on cli directly.
    Btw, i modified the PKGBUILD a little, maybe you like the changes:

  • Gtksql pkgbuild. Simple GUI for sql queries.

    This is simple program for running sql queries. I made this pkgbuild some time ago but I'm not sure how much it is good. Gtksql should support both mysql and postgresql but postgresql support is broken (probably to old). Developer promises a brand new gtk2 based application. We will see...
    Since I can't make this pkgbuild any better I'm just posting it.

    Hello:
    I'm trying to do add a calculated variable to my view that isn't an Entity
    Attribute, its simple really but i don't know if I'm leaving something out or
    not.
    I add the "new Attribute" , call it nCompleted, type - number
    I then check off everything as is required(as documented in Help)
    for an Sql Derived Attribute, the following code is entered in the
    Expression Box :
    Select group_services.office, count(client_group_services.clnt_group_services_id) as nCompleted
    Where group_services_id=client_group_services_id(+)
    And client_group_services_id.result="Completed";
    It isn't working, what am I missing???? Sheena:
    It probably isn't working because of missing 'group by' clause. I don't know the exact detail of your query statement, but suppose you want to count number of employees in a dept, then you're query should look like:
    select dept.deptno, dept.dname, count(emp.empno) as nCount
       from dept, emp where dept.deptno = emp.deptno(+)
       group by dept.deptno, dept.dname  // This group-by is important
    OR if you want to use nested SELECT
    select dept.deptno, dept.dname,
       (select count(emp.empno) from emp where dept.deptno=emp.deptno(+)) as nCount
       from dept

    at Kozyra.main(Kozyra.java:56)
    Note: C:\Program Files\Xinox Software\JCreatorV4LE\MyProjects\Honors2\Kozyra.java uses or overrides a deprecated API.
    Note: Recompile with -Xlint:deprecation for details.
    Any help would be appreciated, as I am becoming increasingly frustrated (I can't find where the pointer exception is and I have no idea what the "note" one is...). Thanks.

    Thanks, Corlett.

  • Anything simple I can add to a GUI for some extra credit?

    I had to write a GUI for my COMP class this time, and if we add anything extra, we can get some extra points..which would be quite nice.
    I have the GUI made and working as we were shown how to do, and now I would like to add some extra things to make it better.

    I looked through the API but reading over class names doesn't do much for me, and I searched Google a bit but most of the stuff I found seemed pretty difficult/beyond my knowledge.

    alright...I fixed the messy issue, but I don't know how to setup the action listeners or whatever...
    I need my calculate tuition method to work using the radio buttons, and I don't know how to set up the listeners correctly.
    I can't find a single example on the internet that does anything like what I'm doing that I can use as a reference. I need something using radio buttons that calculates another number based on the results of the radio buttons...like what mine should do.
    This has got to be a noob question, but I just can't get it to work....

  • Front End (GUI) for Java Web Based Appl.

    Hi Gurus,
    I am new to Java. Can anybody tell me, what is the front end(GUI) used in Java web based applications? I was told that Swings/Applets are rarely used. Is there are a 3rd party took to design GUI for Java based applications?

    U mean to say, for JSP/Servlets, "Web based application" as well as "JSP/Servlet" usually implies that the client is a simple web browser.
    we cannot have swing as front end?You can use Swing inside an Applet inside a web application, but usually that's not needed, as you already have a client application that's quite powerful (the browser).

  • Both side chatting with simple GUI ,,helps pls?

    guys I'm Java application programmer i don't have well knowledge in network programing ,,my question ,,,from where should i start to design a simple GUI client*s* server chat program ,i mean some thing like simple yahoo messenger the program should include also adding contact and make that contact appears ON if he login or OFF if he sign out like red color for ON-line contact and and white color for off-line contact ...........
    another thing that chat system should include shared folder all the contact can enter it and upload file or download file ...
    please guys i run to you to help me i have 2 weeks only to do that thing please don't let me down i need your help ....TIPS,code,any thing full code :) ,,any thing will be really appreciated .
    guys for more information the program includes only the chat of course its both sides chat between the clients and these is no conference room
    or audio or video nothing ,,just text only nothing else except the folder shearing service and the colors of the contacts for login or not .
    guys once more help me give me codes or any thing useful i count on you guys.

    Dude , u r right ,,,but still its simple GUI issueI'm not sure why you are getting this impression. It's not a simple "GUI issue." Yes, you can simply create the GUI for this, but will it be functional? No. Furthermore, if it was so simple, why are you posting asking for help?
    For an instant message chat program, in addition to GUI programming, you need to know how client / server systems work and you need to implement one. A server should be running on one system and the client(s) will connect to it. The server usually maintains the buddy list and passes the messages to/from different clients. This presents several problems that you will need to solve:
    1. How will you develop a protocol between the client / server for communication?
    2. How will you authenticate users?
    3. How will you maintain the buddy list on the server (data structure, database, file)?
    4. How will you pass messages from one client to another (simple string message, serialized data object, etc.)?
    5. etc.
    Now, I'm not saying this is "impossible" so please don't take it that way. I'm simply trying to help you realize that there are a lot of factors to consider when developing this type of application.

    and for the "FTP?" ,,,its folder shearing as i said earlier every one of your friends can access it not FTP .....Talking about "folder sharing" is a whole other issue. What I meant by saying "FTP?" is, how do you plan on implementing "folder sharing" remotely? One option is FTP. How would you do it?

  • How to hide the menu bar from a Transaction iView (SAP GUI for HTML).

    Hello all,
    I have created a simple SAP Transaction iView of type SAP GUI for HTML.  This iView has the Menu bar that has the buttons: Menu, Back, Cancel, and System.  My requirement is, I dont want to see the menu bar that has these buttons.  How do I go about it?  Please advice.
    Note:  My iView is a SAP Transaction iView and not IAC service related iView.
    Thanks
    Vicky R.

    You'll want to set the parameter ~webgui_simple_toolbar in your webgui service.
    It is a binary parameter with the following values/options:
    0  : Hiding the page header completely (not recommended)
    1  : Standard setting
                        This is the recommended standard setting in which the title and the menu bar below it with the [Exit] and [Help] button and the application buttons are displayed.
    2  : Displaying the title line
    4  : Displaying the buttons [Exit] and [Help]
    8  : Displaying the active system buttons on the screen ([Back] and [Cancel])
    16  : Displaying the system menu
    32  : Displaying the application buttons
    128 : Deactivating the information block in the status bar (new)

  • SAP GUI for JAVA - Search Help ALV display

    I need to be able to display search helps in the ALV grid format or the ' Dialog Modal ' option as seen on the <b>Settings for all F4 helps</b> tab under the personalize option for search helps.
    Currently when I am using a Macintosh machine the system ignores the system setting and my personal settings and displays all search results in an ABAP List format. Unfortunately the ABAP list format does not work correctly when used to input a field on another ABAP list report.
    This behaviour can be found on the Mozilla Firefox browser when SAP GUI for HTML and the SAP GUI for JAVA.
    Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Rolf-Martin,
    Thank you for your detailed explanation on how the ALV grid control is implemented for the SAP GUI for Java.  This has been pretty insightful.  The good news is that I finally figured out a solution to my problem.  You see I inherited an old custom program where an ABAP list is used as an interactive data capture screen with input fields.  Well a couple of fields had search helps. The program has worked fine with the regular SAP GUI until a MAC OS user tried to use it with the SAP GUI for Java.  Whenever they selected a line from the search help it would bring back the entire onto their input screen.
    A sample of the code:
    form search_help.
        CALL FUNCTION 'F4IF_FIELD_VALUE_REQUEST'
           EXPORTING
                TABNAME     = 'EKPO'
                FIELDNAME   = 'MATNR'
                SEARCHHELP                = 'ZMAT1_A'
                SHLPPARAM                 = 'MATNR'
           TABLES
                RETURN_TAB       = RET_TABLE.
    IF NOT RET_TABLE-FIELDVAL IS INITIAL.
       LINXX-XMATNR = RET_TABLE-FIELDVAL.
       MODIFY CURRENT LINE FIELD VALUE XMATNR FROM LINXX-XMATNR. " ****
    ENDIF.
    SET CURSOR 9 SY-CUROW.   " ********
    endform.
    The problem was being caused by the fact that the search help ABAP list was overriding the sy-XXXX values for the current line contents, index, pageno, cursor row for the calling ABAP list. So when a user selected a row from the search help this would now become the current context and be transferred back to the calling program.
    The fix was pretty simple; all I had to do was save the current line context and the context prior to calling the search help.  After the search help was run I would then replace the current line with the saved one in my local variable.  I hope this makes sense. We now have a couple of happy MAC OS users.
    Once again I thank you for your patience and support in  this matter.
    Have a great day,
    Edwin.

  • Creating a Java GUI for a C/C++ program

    I'm tasked with creating a GUI for a multi-threaded C++ network server program that has it's main function running with a while loop that checks for keystrokes from the user. The C++ code for the loop is basically:
    while(i!='q')
    if(kbhit())
    i=getch();
    processkey(i);
    }And the processkey function performs different actions based on the key that was pressed.
    I was reading up on ways to interface between Java and C/C++ and heard of JNI, but I also found someone who suggested using the Java Robot class to send the keystrokes from my GUI to the C++ program.
    I've been trying to make a small test case application using the Robot class before trying to implement it in my larger project.
    I created a program with a JFrame with two buttons, one starts a simple C++ program that loops, waiting for keypresses and which will close when 'q' is pressed, like my main program.
    private void jButton1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
            try {
                Runtime.getRuntime().exec("C:/Users/Administrator1/Desktop/Untitled2.exe");
                // TODO add your handling code here:
            } catch (IOException ex) {
                Logger.getLogger(NewJFrame.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
            // TODO add your handling code here:
        }The other button creates a Robot instance and tells that robot to send a key press of 'q', which should terminate the C++ program.
    private void jButton3ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
            try {
                Robot robot = new Robot();
                // Creates the delay of 5 sec so that you can open notepad before
                // Robot start writting
                //robot.delay(5000);
                robot.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_Q);
            } catch (AWTException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
        }It isn't working though. Could it be because when the program is started from my Java app, it runs in the background rather than opening in a new command prompt window? Or is Robot not the way to go, and if so, are there any examples and/or tutorials online that could help me?

    When you clicked the button, what application do you think has the focus at that point? So what do you think consumes the keystroke that you emulated? Hint: It wouldn't be the application you intended it to go to.

  • Using LabView to create a GUI for Delta PLC

    Hi,
    I'm currently using a Delta PLC, programmed with the Delta WPL software, and I'd like to use LabView to create a very simple GUI which would allow the user to communicate with the PLC (basically, the PLC would be running but doing nothing til the user writes data in one of the coils). I don't know how to do that, and I don't even know if it's possible ?
    The PLC I'm using supports Modbus. I tried to use the Modbus library from LabView but I'm not sure it's useful for what I'm trying to do.
    Any idea ?
    Regards,
    Coline

    The Modbus library can certainly be used to read and write registers and coils. You just need to know the relevant details for your PLC (address, coil addresses, ASCII/RTU, etc.) and to make sure the PLC is configured to accept these commands.
    The Modbus library should have a couple of examples showing how to act as a Modbus master, which is what you want.
    Try to take over the world!

  • Swing GUI for Javadoc

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to learn some basic IO and Swing. My project is to make a Swing GUI for javadoc. It's supposed to run at least under W2K and XP.
    The Swing part is going fine, but I can't seem to get IO-part working.
    I tried working with the Runtime- and the Process-class, but I don't can't seem to execute javadoc or read any command-line output. Here's a sample of code that compiles ok, but doesn't do anything.
    try {
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("javadoc");
    InputStream in = p.getInputStream();
    String s = in.toString();
    System.out.println(s);
    System.out.println();
    System.out.println(process.waitFor());
    System.out.println();
    System.out.println(process.exitValue());
    System.out.println();
    System.out.println(""+process);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("error");
    if anyone has any tips, suggestions or simple code samples, I would be very happy to hear from you.

    Alright, I figured out how to read the inputstream, but
    I still get an error:
    Windows 2000
    start
    <ERROR>
    javadoc: No packages or classes specified.
    and the program doesn't terminate for some reason.
    here's the new sourcecode:
    import java.io.*;
    public class JavaDocCommander {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              System.out.println(System.getProperty("os.name"));
              System.out.println("start");
              new Test();
              System.out.println("slut");
    class Test{
         public Test(){
              try {
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process proc = rt.exec("javadoc");
    InputStream stderr = proc.getErrorStream();
    InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(stderr);
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr);
    String line = null;
    System.out.println("<ERROR>");
    while ( (line = br.readLine()) != null)
    System.out.println(line);
    System.out.println("</ERROR>");
    int exitVal = proc.waitFor();
    System.out.println("Process exitValue: " + exitVal);
    } catch (Throwable t)
    t.printStackTrace();

  • Simple GUI

    Hi, I'm trying to create a very straightforward GUI and would like it to have the following:
    -Main menu screen with buttons that can be clicked to open new frames.
    -When a new frame opens, I want it to hide or close the original menu frame (or replace its contents, keeping the same frame size if possible).
    If you've ever played a simple Nintendo DS game where there is a main menu with buttons that open a new window or "frame" you know what I'm talking about.
    Right now, I've began experimenting with the gui builder in NetBeans 5.5 and have a single frame all set up with simple textfield inputs and buttons to enter the input. I also made a button to open a new blank frame but the original remains open and if I close the blank frame, both frames close and end the program.
    So what I'm asking is:
    Is there a simple way to make such a gui? I've googled and searched the forums but see no basic guide for making this type of application.

    Tja123 wrote:
    I was thinking of using CardLayout but that would leave the original frame accessible,This really shouldn't be a problem, since one app often just has one JFrame. In my mind, I think of a JFrame as sort of like an empty picture frame, in that its main function is to frame JComponents, usually JPanels. So keep one JFrame, and swap JPanels that have been decorated any way you like.
    I also realized that using the generated code is probably a bad shortcut for a beginner and am also learning to do everything manually, but I'm making a simple program for someone for fun.That's ok, as long as you don't expect to learn much serious Swing yet.
