Simple IP to IP file transfer

Is there any built in method to easily transfer a small (ASCII or Binary) file from one IP to another?

There isn't a "one line of code" solution to this, but it is very easy to implement.
Open a SocketInputStream on one host, open a SocketOutputStream on the other host, then pump bytes into the input stream, and read byets on the output stream... That's a pretty basic task.

  • MacBook Pro Retina - Fan/Heat During File Transfer

    Hey guys,
I just had my MacBook Pro Retina in for repair because of an 4HDD/11/400000000: Sata (0,0) error and they replaced the SSD. I have a 2.7/16/768 configuration. One of the main issues I noticed was periodically slow file transfers, load times and boots hanging etc. and a secondary reason was a high-pitched buzzing with heavy disk usage.
My question now is... when I'm doing something as simple as a large file transfer, or installing some apps etc. the MacBook really heats up and the fans really start spinning sometimes. I've never known SSD access to heat up a computer so much. Is this normal behaviour that everyone else is experiencing with their systems? To clarify: this happens when not doing anything else with the machine other than copying files around, also when copying files to/from my external drive which is connected through FireWire on the back of my 27" Thunderbolt display which is then of course connected to the MacBook via the Thunderbolt port.
Expected behaviour? Seems odd to me, but this is my first MacBook so don't know if that's the 'norm' or not.

I've managed to get the fan speed down to a reasonable, less audible level by using that old VRAM terminal command to enable me to keep the internal display disabled whilst the lid is open. I've had to shift quite a lot round on my desk to make this happen, but I guess it was the only way. It now runs 3 screens under similar loads at approximately 3500prm.
Taking your advice into consideration, I raised the rear feet and this enabled further decrease in fan speed. I guess one of those laptop stands will augment this effect, and I will look into them.
Anyway, thank you for your help!
    Thanks,
    Richard

  • File transfer stop/resume

    Hi all,
I can't seem to find elsewhere the answer to this simple question: can a file transfer be interrupted and then resumed some time later?
    Thanks in advance!
    Hartz

Well, Ralph, in the place where I live they say: "There's only one way to know: try! "
Yesterday evening I asked a friend of mine to send me a big file via iChat; when the transfer was around 20% I quit iChat, shut down my Mac and went to bed.
Today I asked my friend to send it again but up came a window telling me that there already was a file with the same name. What do you want to do: cancel or replace?
I chose "Replace" and the download began right where it had stopped the night before…
iChat is really amazing and I may be wrong but I think this feature is undocumented.

  • Simple file to file transfer.  Pls advice urgent

    Hi All,
I have Simple file to file transfer.
There are text files at source side that need to send at receiver side.
Source text files name are different so I have used
Adapter Specific Attributes for Sender and Receiver Adapetrs
    Question
As these are text files and there is no mapping required what interface name should I give at Sender Aggrement and
    at Interface Determination.
    Pls describe steps
    Regards

    Rider,
Its very simple scenario. For ur satisfaction I did the same, it's working perfectly. I don't know what mistake u did. Let me give the complete picture.
    Step1: Create new Scenario
Step2: Create new Business Service, let say File_BusService
Step3: In File_BusService add the outbound and Inbound Interface name and namespaces , like
    Outbound Interface: MyInterface
    Outbound Interfacenamespace: http://my-own-namespace.com
    Inbound Interface: MyInterface
    Inbound Interfacenamespace: http://my-own-namespace.com
Step4: Create two communication Channels under File_BusService
    Step5: Receiver Determination.
    Sender:File_BusService
    Outbound Interface: MyInterface
    Outbound Interfacenamespace: http://my-own-namespace.com
    Configured Receivers
    File_BusService
    Step6: Interface Determination.
    Sender:File_BusService
    Outbound Interface: MyInterface
    Outbound Interfacenamespace: http://my-own-namespace.com
    Inbound Interface: MyInterface
    Step7: Receiver agreement
    Receiver Service: File_BusService
    Inbound Interface: MyInterface
    Receiver Comm.channel
    Step8: Sender Agreement.
    Sender:File_BusService
    Outbound Interface: MyInterface
    Outbound Interfacenamespace: http://my-own-namespace.com
    Sender Comm.channel.

  • Simple PRC file transfer between devices or via PC not so simple, sigh.

Greeting, this is my first post so excuse me if I make some faux pas.
I was unpleasantly surprised how difficult, almost imposible it is to take a [custom] PRC off one Palm device and put it on a second, even using a Windows PC as the intermediary.
The devices use Palm 4.1 OS and are bar code scanners, SPT1800, made by Symbol and now legacy devices since Motorola bought them out.
So one PRC is a tiny program that allows the main program to be downloaded via a network. Without this tiny program, can't get the devices to do anything.
I tried terminal programs and what not. I can talk to the devices via COM1 and even 9600 n81, a simple protocol. They do have some kind of binary file transfer capability. But I cannot even get a Directory listing, nothing from the Palm device. That file capability is simple not there. Really surprised me.
Desktop software is useless so far, from Symbol/Motorola. Have not tried Palm's but it looks almost identical and only allows PRC to be transferred to the device for installation, not vice versa.
I am trying to avoid installing linux and using pilot-xfer only because that takes a couple of days before I can download and debug everything. But Pilot can make a backup of the Palm device, purportedly, any Palm device just about.
Any suggestions? Pilot-xfer is still not ready for Windows?
I am using Windows XP Pro with the Com1 port. I did try Telnet and a Terminal program but I cannot get the Palm device to do much.
I guess they did this on purpose so the files can't be messed up?
Anyway to just make a backup of the regular memory, not the ROM?
I have emailed a few Palm service companies if they can sell me a program to do this but I doubt they will. We did send some Palm devices out to one of these companies and it's almost 2 months now. It's murder.
    Thanks, AdamPalm

Your references are appreciated. I look forward to testing this out. It's interesting how complicated this gets and all the little deadly false steps. For example, I use 98se and XP Pro mostly [Win 2000 and linux sometimes]. I shut down the serial ports. No problem I thought. I just open them up when I need COM1 and that particular IRQ.
BIG PROBLEM NOW. Machine can't work now with COM1 in 98se. That IRQ is not moving back. XP PRO does not have this problem since presumably lots of IRQs and not used that much.
This complete collapse of the computer with something as dumb as enabling/disabling COM ports in the BIOS has me gobsmacked. It's so bad it's funny. Never saw this problem before in all the various operating systems. I better not see this again. I might really go over to linux as soon as I figure out how to play all those proprietary formats that don't play in linux.
What should take minutes will probably take days to sort out all the problems.
Do others encounter this too? Sorry to whine but that's fun too.
Thanks for all the comments fellow. Appreciated.

  • [SOLVED]Simple file transfer between different os'es

    Hi
I'm searching for some kind of simple file transfer between different computers/os (mainly arch and windows) on local net, without I have to set up any samba/ftp server etc. It would be perfect if i could select a file I want to transfer and then be able to receive it on a different computer.
So far I've tried giver but I most of the times they can't find each other.
Any know how I could archive something like the a bow?
    Thanks

Try using simple file sharing through http server 'oneliner's.
    - Note your host IP (which I refer to by "ip.of.your.server"),
    - Go under your directory where you want to share files and fire a command line :
    Using python : python2 -m SimpleHTTPServer 8000
And you can access your files on the network using http://ip.of.your.server:8000/
    Using php : php -S localhost:8080 -t webrootpath/
Files under webrootpath/ will be accessible from http://ip.of.your.server:8888/
    Using mongoose : mongoose -r . -p 8888
Files will be accessible from http://ip.of.your.server:8888/
You may restrict access, ie.:  -l -0.0.0.0/0,+10.60.100.105
    And have access/error logging (à la apache) too : -a access_log.txt -e error_log.txt
NB.: You may install python or php under windows but mongoose is the easiest thing when it comes to windows -> linux.

  • SAP PI ftp FIle transfer one to one with the same filename

    Hello all,
maybe sombody ask the same in this forum, but couldn't find any topic regarding these.
    Okay:
We have a scenario which have to pick up a txt file from a folder and to deliver to another folder
outside. The file transfer itselfs isn't a problem and works propertly, but we need the same file-
name for the outgoing file. Unfortunaltey we have huge different filenames..
So, my question would be, what for possiblities we have to sure, that if we can deliver the
file which the same filename as we have in the orginal (source) filefolder.
e.g. file named in source called TEST.123 in the destination should be also TEST.123.
The next file called TEST123.abc should be also in the destination TEST123.abc.
    Thanks

    Hi friends.
I don't know about if you need still any help. But i think it will be useful for another people who have encountered that problem and looking for the solution.
The solution is pretty simple for case if you are going to some file by scenario FTP - to - FTP without interface mapping. I was able to create simple example ant put it on my site to let you use the portable short instruction with screen shots and highlighted marks that help you understand it more clear. Indeed you don't need any udf if you wish to repeat that example in your real scenario. Link is HERE
Shortly you have to do the next:
    1) for the sender adapter in tab "Advanced" switch on the check-box "Set Adapter Specific Attributes" and check that "File name" is switched on as well.
    2) for the receiver adapter you have to repeat step 1 as well. Plus you have to change setting on the tab "Processing". On that tab you need to change "File Construction Mode" into "Create" and than you have to switch on the check box named as "Overwrite Existing File".
    That's it.
Thank you, i hope that is help.
    Sincerely, LukCAD.

  • Which is better File transfer or EDI transfer

    Hi All,
I have a scenario where the the vendor has tto send the post receivable data to our company. Now they say they can either provide us a file or EDI transfer. They have put the ball in our court to decide and tell them how they should be sending data to us.
Now we have to look into pros and cons of using file transfer or EDI.
COuld you please put some lght on which might be better and why?
    XIer

    Hey
do u guys already have the infrastructure to handle EDI? i mean have u installed SeeBurger or some other tool to handle EDI messages? if not then for EDI you need to have some kind of tool until and unless you guys have some ways to handle EDI.
File is kinda simple ,you can simply get XML file via HTTP or the outside party can FTP it to certain location and you can pick it up from there.
if u already have SeeBurger or any other way to handle EDI then you can go for EDI,but File will be a lot simpler in mapping as well as design and configurations and you wont need any extra set up it
    thanx

  • New to MacBook - slow LAN file transfer problem

My new MacBook is painfully slow when wifi-ing to my house LAN.
I turned in my old G4 iBook for a MacBook (2GHz C2D, 2GB, 10.4.9, all updates). I have a LAN that consists of a wired 1G Ethernet backbone (a Mini and a Powermac G5 are wired in) and a Snow AEB that provides 802.11g wifi access to the LAN. The wired LAN connects to a D-Link GB Ethernet switch so the wired systems can exchange files fast. The switch connects to a D-Link EBR2310 router that connects to a cable modem to ComCast. The router has the latest firmware (1.05, it's an 'A' version router).
The Mini, G5, and MB are static IPs on the LAN. The D-Link router passes out DHCP addresses >100, with addresses <101 reserved for static LAN IPs. I use static IPs for network reliability when recovering from power outages and other unforeseen glitches. The LAN has worked very well in this configuration, with fast file transfers among machines and good stability.
With my old 802.11g G4 iBook, I was able to watch DVDs that are stored on an external FW drive connected to the Mini. No stalls, no pauses, no dropouts - MenuMeters showed an average throughput of about 700KBytes/sec on the iBook when viewing a DVD. I used both VLC and DVD Player with good results.
With my new MacBook, I can't view my DVD files. 802.11g network transfer rates to the MB (indicated by MenuMeters and by Activity Monitor) vary rapidly from a high of about 1.1 MBytes/sec to 20 KBytes/sec. Movies stall, skip, etc.
Simple file copies from one system to another are also much slower with the MacBook - an average of ~100KBytes/sec vs. ~ 1.5 MBytes/sec with my old iBook. In short, the MacBook is dog-slow in file transfers from the other machines compared with my old iBook when using the wifi connection, with no change to the network infrastructure in going from the old laptop to the new. I would like to fix this.
My AEB is set up in bridge mode (simple access point) with WPA2 security. All three Macs are completely current with latest updates, as is the Snow AEB. The MB has 4 bars of signal strength. Slow file transfer problem does not change when moving the MB to or from the AEB.
Curiously, when I download a large file (like the Intel 10.4.9 combo update), the MB shows a steady ~800KBytes/sec download speed, with none of the speed variation it shows with file transfers from either the Mini or the G5. File transfers to/from the MB to either of the other Macs are very slow.
Both the Mini and the G5 have Airport cards: when I switch them from wired Ethernet LAN to wifi LAN, they transfer files between each other at ~ 2MBytes/sec - about what you'd expect from an 802.11g protocol. So the slow file transfer doesn't seem to be due to the AEB, it seems to be specific to the MacBook. When I connect the MB using its hardware Ethernet port, files transfer just as fast as the other systems.
I have tried these measures, without effect on the problem:
    - power off/restart of every component in the system;
    - changing the AEB to an open network mode;
    - changing the MB from static IP to DHCP;
    - toggling IPv6 on/off;
    - running no applications other than Finder on all systems;
Activity Monitor on the MB doesn't show anything sucking up CPU cycles during file transfers. I have plenty of RAM. The only thing I've changed in the network is the swap of the iBook for the MacBook.
Can anyone suggest what else I can try to make acquisition of this nice shiny MacBook a step forward, rather than a step back? Thank you!

    Hi,
Did you want to use the Live Migrations for that?
We recommend that you configure separate dedicated networks with gigabit or faster speed for live migration traffic and cluster communication, and these networks should be separate from the network used by the management operating system, and from the network
    used by the virtual machines.

  • Firewire File Transfer Problem/  Dual Drive G4 to iMac

Bought a new iMac. My old G4 (OSX10.3.9) has two internal HDs (30Gb & 40GB <my startup>) but only 30Gb drive shows up in target mode. Can't mount 40 Gb drive on iMac desktop to do file transfer when G4 is in "Target" mode? Called Apple "help" and was told to connect FW cables with a "Powered FW hub". No luck! Only 30GB shows up (Disk 0) and 40Gb (Disk 1) doesn't mount! Any suggestions?
    Louie ([email protected])

    Mike and Karn
Thank you both for your helpful and knowledgeable suggestions. Earlier this afternoon, I took my G4 to a local Mac store where the tech fixed the "problem" in 5 minutes for NO CHARGE. He just moved jumpers making the hard drive I wanted to use as a "target" now readable and the other as the slave. I have busily been transferring stuff to my new iMac.
Too bad the "Applecare" telephone "tech" which I waited well over an hour to speak with a few days ago did not the simple and correct answer but instead told me to by a "powered firewire hub"!!

  • Please rank in terms of file transfer speed between FW800 external HDs

    Hello,
I have two triple interface (FW400/FW800/USB2) 1000GB external hard drives. My 17inch Macbook Pro has 1xFW800 and 1xFW400. Please rank the following in terms of speed of transferring files directly between the external hard discs:
    1. Connect one to FW400 and one to FW800.
    2. Daisy chain FW800.
    3. Buy a 2 slot FW800 express card and connect both via this card.
    4. Buy a 2 slot FW800 express card and connect one drive to this card and the other to the inbuilt FW800 port on the Macbook Pro.
Thank you very much for your replies,
    Ben

For things like file transfer with large files, the internal drive will be noticeably faster, because it is a single continuous action.
For booting and running a computer, there are many things happening at once, and disk access speed is only a small part of the overall process. Other factors related to the current status of the drives, such as amount of free space and fragmentation of system-related files will have an effect as well. If you perform a brand new system installation on a newly erased external drive, the system's files will be optimally placed with plenty of free space. Compare that to your internal drive, with the existing system's files somewhat more scattered over the drive (happens over time) and less contiguous free space (happens with ongoing adding and deleting of files)... The external drive may actually run faster.
I have Mac OS X systems on external FireWire (400) and USB 2.0 drives. The internal drive feels a bit faster, but it is not something that is too noticeable. The ideal setup to optimize disk access speed is a limited size internal drive volume (it can be a partition) with the OS and apps installed. This volume should be devoted mostly to the OS and apps and have a decent amount of free space. If the drive is partitioned, use the first partition. Your personal data is then stored mostly on your the other partition (if the internal drive is partitioned) or an external drive. This keeps the OS and application files confined in one fast portion of the drive, and reduces ongoing fragmentation of files and free space, because OS and app files do not change very often, compared to user data files.
However, for most users, the benefit gained is not enough to justify the added effort and complexity. One drive with everything bunched together is simple and easy, and works fine.

Your usual cooperation will be highly appreciated. In case of manual standby, the more simple will be not to transfer files to standby site, but make them available by nfs. So, there will be no need to check what logs were sent and applied. Recovery script on standby will just periodically perform recovery from this destination. Script will always ends with message like this that can be ignored:
ORA-00308: cannot open archived log '.......'
ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
Linux-x86_64 Error: 2: No such file or directory

  • Bluetooth - any hope for file transfer in near future???

    Hi,
Presently iPhone 4 does not allow bluetooth file transfer to other mobile devices and even my PC.
I am not interested in illegal music/video transfer but genuinely transferring my data files between pc and other mobile devices and use it like a mobile storage device. I don't like the idea of mailing my file and then downloading it again when I have both devices in my hand! It's not helpful when other devices do not have internet connection or limited internet usage.
Please let me know if apple policies would allow it to make file transfer possible in near future (except music and video). Otherwise it would greatly reduce its usability for me.
*I hate its file storing and transferring features.*
*Another reason for hating iPhone is 'Flash'.*
Apart from this, its simply superb.

Because there is nowhere to put the files on an iPhone. There is no common file storage area on an iPhone that all apps can access. Each app sits in a sandbox for security purposes. Each app can only access its own files. You would have to have an app running where the files would go, and then the files would only be available to that app.
The old Nokia has a common file area and does not have the security the iPhone does, but then 10 years ago you probably did not need the security.
