Simple Navigation in Flash

Im trying to make a simple navigation system with buttons in
flash.
I've made a blank layer called actions and ive named the
keyframes after the 'pages' in the site (home, about, etc)
I've also used keyframes to change the text and title on each
page, and just before the next page i've put stop(); in the
action-script.
My final layer has the buttons I'm using. How do I make these
buttons link to the different 'pages' (frame names in the 'actions'
layer). I think this is done in action-script so can someone tell
me the code to input. Am I going about this in the correct way?
Thanks

with timeline label navigation you use: gotoAndPlay([frame
label]); from your buttons onPress handlers. there is a basic
timeline nav example

  • Slideshow navigation arrows flash up on DVD playback

    I burned a slideshow using iDVD version 6.0.4.
    I selected Fit to Audio for the Slide Duration. In Settings, I de-selected Display Navigation Arrows (I removed the check mark from the box next to Display Navigation Arrows.) I would expect that when I burn the DVD and view it on my DVD player, the navigation arrows would not appear. However, the navigation arrows flash on the screen just before each transition. They don't stay on the screen but they are very distracting when they flash with every slide.
    When I preview the slideshow in iDVD I don't see the navigation arrows.
    Is there a way to fix this?

    I had a simialr issue today as well which you may wish to read about as to how I resolved (or worked around) this issue.

  • Simple navigation iView

    Hello Gurus,
    I am looking for a way to create a simple navigation iView. It does not have to be dynamic or anything.
    My Page will hold the said navigation iView on the left side and an iView on the right side where the selected web content (JSP pages) should be shown. It is necessary to forward a parameter to the JSPs.
    The navigation tree should have a classic appearance, wich folders holding the actual links.
    I would prefer to use a readily available component.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Simple question:  Exporting Flash

    I need to make and import animations of simple objects made
    from circles and rectangles in to FCP. The animations will be used
    to supplement live video of tasks that are not easily videoed in
    the detail a student needs to see. The end product will be training
    DVDs for teaching shop skills.
    I am considering purchasing Flash 8 Pro to do the animations,
    but before I do I would like to find out if there Flash 8 Pro users
    making and importing their animations into FCP. I have Motion, but
    like combination features of drawing and animating in Flash.
    I would appreciate any advice/recommendations from Flash
    users.
    Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences importing
    Flash into FCP .

    What is FCP ?

  • How to make a simple navigating form

    Hello All,
    i m very new to forms 6i.
    I have created a form having 2 text items and a push buttons prev,nxt to navigate rows in the table..
    To get a single record is ok .. but i want to make a navigating form ..That is by pressing prev button i can b able to c prev row and same by pressing nxt i can c next record..
    Can any one tell me how i can do for da below simple query..
    Select ename,sal from emp;

    Ravi,
    Forms has a built-in called
    next_record;
    previous_record;
    that you can try to navigate in a form.
    I interprested your post in that "c" means "see" and "b" means "be". Not sure if this was your intention, but if it was, please don't use any abbreviations that confuse the content of your question, because not everybody is willing to spend time on wild guesses.

  • Simple Navigation.

    I am trying to create a simple Horizontal Navigation Bar that has links for the subpages of a Page Group rootpage.
    I have been using the "subpages" itemtype, but this obviously only works when the user is on the rootpage, if they then go to a sub-page they see the sub-pages of that subpage in the navigation.
    This should be easy to implement? I've used several other portal content management systems and Oracle portal doesn't seem to do this?
    Any suggestions?

    Anyone?
    Why is there no simple scripting functionality?
    I've developed using MediaSurface which uses Oracle,
    They provide a simple scripting language to things like this, e.g.
    str_links($item, $template, $detail, $sortfield, $sortfunction, $itemtypename, $method, $number)
    Where I can just pass parameters to the function and it creates a list of links from $item and uses the html in $template and whatever $sort I place on it.
    Is there nothing like this with Oracle Portal? Or am I missing something?

    What you're seeing is the result of the default WMODE
    setting for Flash
    Player, which you can change. Keep in mind, Flash content
    isn't something
    any browser natively supports. It requires an ActiveX
    component or plugin,
    and as a result, is processed outside of the browser's
    composition buffer.
    This lifts Flash content (and other active content, like
    QuickTime, Java
    applets, and so on) from the context of its surroundings. To
    change that,
    you can configure a SWF's WMODE setting for transparent or
    opaque, as
    described here:
    http://www.quip.net/blog/2006/flash/how-to-position-flash-beneath-other-content
    Be aware that any WMODE setting other than the default has
    been known to
    cause usability issues as described in the articles/blog
    entries further
    linked from the above URL.

  • HELP MAKING VERY SIMPLE ANIMATION - Adobe Flash CS5

    - First off, apologies for the simplicity of the task I need to carry out- cannot seem to find any tutorials on this. (All aimed at After Effects)
    - I am hoping to make two simple animations;
    1. Animate the word "water" so it appears to be moving like water itself.
    2. Animate the word "sand" so it appears to crumble into sand itself.
    Appreciate any help, very new to Flash - still no luck after Lynda and other tutorials.

    Not exactly the answer to your question but found a tutorial page that could help you.

  • A simple question regarding flash output from Encore

    My primary question is how exactly is the html file that is playhed by the browser created in Encore?  I have tired this and I am simply unable to located the html file as seen in the tutorials on this subject.  I see that these tutorials have templates which I don't see when I select the flash output.  Do I need these to crreate a simple flash file that is playable on a website?  Where to the templates come from?  This is not explained in the tutorials.
    Is the index.html file created automatically when Flash output is selected as the format?  Maybe I am doing something wrong but I have never found them?
    Please help as I am having to go through a two step process to create the requied index.html and embeded player from which the SWF is played.on a site.  I am only interested in creating progressively encoded web site playable files from Encore.  Please help!.
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Encore creates the HTML file when you export to Flash - it's in the folder named on export, along with all the other files you'll need.

    Could somebody help me with this problem?

    It is a pretty weird problem indeed.
    I know little about Oracle Portal. When I googled, I found the following in http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1014portal/standards_portlets/stdsplts.htm
    "Note: If you receive the following message, then the portlet is in a transient state. Simply refresh the page.
    Error: Could not get markup. The cookie or session is invalid or there is a runtime exception."
    In case you are still searching for an answer, it should be better that you post to one of the portal forums in Fusion Middleware forums

  • Simple CMS in Flash CS5

    I am building a site for a local county government.  Certain departments post documents from time to time for public review.  For example our Human Resources department post jobs frequently.  They would like to have the ability to post these jobs on there own, with no help from me the web developer.  So I guess what I am looking for is a method of setting up a form so that certain people can fill out descriptions then upload and actual PDF as well.  They will all so need the ability to remove the upload after a certain amount of time.  Any thoughts?

    using xml is a good way to supply a limited amount of data to flash.   you can create an xml editor that will allow others to update the xml file and protect it from people that don't understand xml encoding.

  • How to make a (simple) video editing flash software

    Hello,
    I currently use Adobe Flash cs3 version 9.0.0.494 running in windows 8 but have, if needed, Adobe Flash cs6.
    in this new project I'm working on I would like to include a feature that according to the actions of the user (just button presses), creates a video from smaller pre-existant videos, each  button corresponding to small clips that will be put toghether by its pressing order.
    After this, the video created should be able to be exported.

    no, they would need to be created dinamically as the possibilities are unlimited,
    I was thinking of saving the inputs in variables (starting in a) with previous value 0 following this logic:
    if (a==0) {a=36}
    else if (b==0) {b=36}
    else if (c==0) {c=36}
    where 36 is the frame where this button clip starts.
    then, when the user is done i would do this at the end frame of each clip
    if (a=/=0) {frame=a; a=0; goto frame}
    else if (b=/=0) {frame=b; b=0; goto b}
    my only problem here would be how do record the video...

  • Navigating through flash site with animation

    Hi all,
    Obviously i am very new to flash as i think this must be a very basic question....i just can't get my head around it, so would really appreciate some advice.
    Basically, what i want to do is have a home page with some images and things on it, and a menu.
    When the user clicks on a menu button, i want the images on the homepage to animate away, and be replaced with the chosen page (animated in).
    I understand how to animate things using Tweens in the timeline and also in As3 using the Tween Class, but for the animation i'd like to do it's so much easier to use the timeline (i don't think i'd be able to use as3 to do really complicated things yet).
    I can figure out how to make the home page disappear, but i can't figure out how to then animate in the correct page. If anyone can point me in the direction of a good tutorial or just give me some hints i'd be sooo grateful!! I think i'm just struggling to get my head into it.
    Thanks.

    THanks AGAIN moccamaximum!! I feel like i'm being a complete *******!!
    I've added an alpha=0 box over all the buttons in the main stage. In the script on the main stage i've added a statement to make it invisible, then if hideImage() or showImage() is called, i make the box visible so that the user can't click any buttons. I'm now having a problem calling the box from the img1 or img2 child movieclips. I've set a new keyframe on the very last frame of the img1 and img2 movieclip and tried to use parent.box.visible=false; but that didn't work....it said possibly undefined variable. I must be missing something and my ignorance of flash is getting really frustrating -  i need to learn faster!!
    How do i access the box mc from the img1 and img2 movieclips in the as3?
    I've changed the main actionscript to this:
    menupoint1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startAnimation);
    menupoint2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startAnimation);
    // 'box' movieclip set to invisible
    box.visible=false;
    //make object from Images Classes
    var img1_mc:img1 = new img1();
    var img2_mc:img2 = new img2();
    //addallImages, but make them invisible
    addChild(img1_mc);
    addChild(img2_mc);
    var currentImage="";//use this variable to hold the currently active image
    function showImage(e:TimerEvent):void {
        box.visible=true;
        this[currentImage].play();
    function hideImage():void {
        box.visible=true;
        this[currentImage].play();
    var animation_timer:Timer = new Timer(1000,1); // use this timer to create a pause bewtween the animations
    animation_timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER_COMPLETE, showImage);
    function startAnimation(e:MouseEvent) {
        if (currentImage!="")
            hideImage();
        animation_timer.start();
        switch (e.target.name)
            case "menupoint1" :
                currentImage="img1_mc";
                break;
            case "menupoint2" :
                currentImage="img2_mc";
                break;

  • One Simple Question About Flash and XP

    Does the latest version of Flash work with IE8 and/or the latest Firefox version, on a Windows XP sp3 Computer?
    Thanks for any help.

    It is best to follow Adobe's instructions for updating its software, which varies by the product & versions involved. This usually works well but Adobe is one of those companies big enough to play by its own rules, sometimes ignoring Apple's developer guidelines or inventing its own API's instead of using the Apple provided ones that do the same thing, so there is a small chance things won't go as expected even when you follow the instructions to the letter.
    If this happens it is best to seek advice on a product by product, version by version basis.

    JSF matches patterns based on your web.xml file. You don't put your jsp pages in a folder called /faces or name them with a .faces extension. You just have a normal directory structure, like so:
    ${context_root}/
    somePage.jsp
    folder1/someOtherPage.jsp
    In order to use jsf, you have to have a faces servlet & mapping in your web.xml file:
         <!-- Faces Servlet-->
         <servlet>
              <description>
                   This is the Faces Servlet; the central controller for all jsf applications.
              </description>
              <display-name>The Faces Servlet</display-name>
              <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
              <servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class>
              <init-param>
                   <param-name>config</param-name>
                   <param-value>/WEB-INF/faces-config.xml</param-value>
              </init-param>
              <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
         </servlet>
         <!-- Faces Mapping -->
         <servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
              <url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>
         </servlet-mapping>
    This tells the web container that any URL request for /faces/somePage.jsp must be routed through the FacesServlet, where the actual jsp to process is /somePage.jsp. Similarly, if the server gets a request for /faces/folder1/someOtherPage.jsp, it will process /folder1/someOtherPage.jsp through the faces servlet.
    So, if your web container is at http://localhost:8080
    And your context root is: /webapp_contextroot
    And your jsp is: /folder/page.jsp
    And your FacesServlet mapping pattern is: /faces/*
    Then to request that page you must type the url:
    http://localhost:8080/webapp_contextroot/faces/folder/page.jsp
    On the other hand, if you had the same setup as above but your faces mapping was *.faces, you would have to access this url:
    http://localhost:8080/webapp_contextroot/folder/page.faces
    That's how it works, someone please correct me if I'm wrong...
