Simple validation problem

Question

Hi all,
I am new to Jdeveloper and using Jdeveloper 10.1.3 and ADF, created a page/screen based on a table using Jheadstart
I have a simple validation to make, when a user enters a code in one of the field, the system should populate the name from a different table, and if user enters wrong code i should show an error message
how do i do this, can i get a sample code or any article or demo for this
This is similar to when-validate-item trigger in forms

You want to invoke code when a value in a UI field is changed - so you'll need to write a changeListener event in a backing bean for your JSF page:
so your JSF page will have something like this (the first field is the one that has the changeListener method associated with)

                        binding="#{backing_untitled7.inputText1}"
                        id="inputText1" autoSubmit="true"
                        valueChangeListener="#{backing_untitled7.field1changed}"/>
          <af:inputText label="Label 2"
                        binding="#{backing_untitled7.inputText2}"
                        id="inputText2"
                        partialTriggers="inputText1"
                        />
          <af:messages binding="#{backing_untitled7.messages1}" id="messages1"/>
        </h:form>The code will look something like this - but you'll replace the first part:
    public void field1changed(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) {
        // this section will try to populate the value
        if (this.inputText1.getValue().toString().equals("2")) {
            this.inputText2.setValue("4");
        else{
        //this section display an error message
        FacesMessage m = new FacesMessage();
        m.setDetail("we only accept 2 here");
        m.setSummary("we only accept 2 here");
        FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addMessage("Only 2", m);
    }To get the value from the DB you can use an ADF BC AM service method as shown in chapters 8.3-8.5 in the ADF Developer Guide:
