Single Board Rio: sleep mode unavailable

Hi,
I bought a Single Board RIO 9636 which is to be used in a battery-powered system. Hence, power consumption is critical.
I hoped I could use the sleep mode that is mentionned here (p29) and here but the "sleep I/O item" does not appear in the Labview project.
Do I have to do something special to make this I/O appear in the FPGA I/O?
Does my SBRIO support sleep mode?
Any idea of the kind of power consumption I can achieve with sleep mode on? Is there a big difference compared to regular mode?
Best regards,
peper

Peper,
You are actually referencing the previous generation of sbRIO's manual in this post. It is a bit confusing at that manual was labeled 963x. If you go to the sbRIO-9636's product page, you can select "Resources" and get to the prodcut manuals from there. Here is the sbRIO-9636's manual.
The Sleep I/O item allows C Series module to enter a sleep mode, not the sbRIO controller itself; therefore, the sbRIO-9636 does not have a Sleep I/O item under the FPGA target in the LabVIEW Project.
If you want to go into a lower power state, you can stop the FPGA bitfile from running which should lower the power consumption (you can do this with the FPGA Abort invoke node with the FPGA Interface that runs on RT).

  • NGSA2 c code in my single board RIO

    Hi,
I want to introduce several c code in order to have an intelligent controller in my single board RIO. I have read that i have to put it in a shared library in the VxOS of the RIO, but the instructions to do this are quite "dirty". Is not there any other solution??

  • CANopen with single board RIO sbRIO 9606

    Hello,
I am searching for any support considering  CANopen functionality applied on single board RIO sbRIO 9606.
There are some tutorials for cRIO using FPGA, but is it possible to translate the known PDOs or SDOs to the format which can be than used with the available Embedded CAN for sbRIO?
Thank you in advance for any comment!

    Hello Jesse,
that the embedded CAN driver doesn't have the CANopen functionality is clear, but according to the fact that the lower level protocol implementing is usually (CAN) it should be possible to write VI which will allow the usage of CANopen commands combined with the embedded CAN driver for single board RIO. Or?
There are some examples for RIO which do allow CANopen functionality using the CAN module.
Can you please send me additional information considering the basic CANopen master functionality.
    Thank you in advance.

  • R series intelligent DAQ, NI-Compact RIO , NI single board RIO

    Hi,
I'm in the phase of choosing an FPGA to use in programming some DSP modules. The thing is that while I'm reading about the different technologies to be used, I find it difficult to know how will these devices be connected to my PC and programmed. For example, when using R series intelligent DAQs, do I have to get a compact RIO as well , or can I get a PCI-bus  R - DAQ and connect it to the PC.
Some clarification of how to use each of these devices will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
     Walid

Just to elaborate on what Venkatesh said
With a compact RIO you will connect your PC to the RIO using Ethernet, direct through a cross over or through a network hub.
This introductory video will teach you how to install, configure, and program the latest NI CompactR...
A PCI R series card, just plugs straight into your Windows computer PCI slot.
A PXI card will plug into a PXI chassis and will give you one of 2 programming options
     1. If you have a PXI system controller running Windows XP with the appropriate drivers and version of LV you can program the FPGA directly in the PXI chassis
     2. You can connect to the PXI chassis through Ethernet and program the FPGA from there.
Compiling and deploying your program will work the same no matter what connection you use.

  • Lock in Amplifier on Single Board Rio 9636

    Hey Guys,
I have to program a lock in amplifier for an analog signal i get from a microphone with a high SNR.
    I have Labview 2012 SP1 and FPGA/RT 2012 and a SBRIO 9636.
    I found an example: https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-1762
    LIA_IPnet_LabVIEW2009.zip
Now I am trying to understand the mostly uncommented code.
    Question 1:
Can I use this program with my SBRIO? I prefer this to the SBRIO version on the same page because it is a dual phase LIA.
    Question 2:
I added my own zip file were I added some comment boxes (orange background) but I commented in german. Maybe you can tell me if I am right so far. (Mainly in the HostLIA.vi and FPGA_LIA.vi)
    Question 3:
Can someone help me to understand the subvi on the FPGA named "costa loop"? For example: What exactly is the code doing in the VCO subvi?
    Question 4:
Can someone give me a link to a good document/website which explains the mathematic details of the decimation in a LIA?
    (german or english)
If someone has another good working lock in program, please tell me.
    Thanks for your help

    Hello Slev1n,
here is some documentation about the Lock in Amplifier (mathematically):
    http://www.thinksrs.com/downloads/PDFs/ApplicationNotes/AboutLIAs.pdf
in general it is possible to configure a cRIO project to a sbRIO project. You just need to configure a new target.

The problem appears for system wake-up from sleep mode and has been running the program: Aida64 or program: CPU-Z to read the information board and processor, the device freezes and the blue screen appears
In normal operating mode of the system or reboot everything works okay. The problem appears only when you wake up from sleep mode.
Is there a solution to the problem. Or maybe need to update to a new BIOS chip?

  • Macbook Pro 17" (Mid-2009) Randomly Getting Stuck in Sleep Mode when Unplugged

Hey guys, this is my first time posting so please excuse me if I do anything wrong. Here's the issue:
I have a Macbook Pro 17" (Mid-2009) that has had an issue with the whole computer shutting down at random, but only when unplugged from the MagSafe power adapter. Upon scouring all the forums and discussions I could, I haven't found anyone with the same exact circumstances as myself, hence this post. Let me explain.
Many say it's a battery issue. That can't be, because this has been happening for months, and after I finally got my laptop repaired a few days ago, it still occurs. I had sent it in for a logic board failure, but consented them to fix any other parts that weren't functioning properly. Upon the return of my machine, I found that they installed a fresh hard drive, new battery, new logic board, and a new speaker on the right side. This must mean that neither the logic board nor the battery are the issue.
What else can this point to? Again, it only occurs when the Mac is unplugged from a power source, and it doesn't totally shut down. It goes half way, essentially stuck in sleep mode. The white indicator light on the front freezes, and the power button has to be held to fully turn the laptop off, then pressed again to reboot. It can last anywhere from a single minute to a few hours before shutting off again, and it's always the exact same circumstance, no matter what kind of computing I'm doing at the time.
Note that while no one else has found the solution to lie within resetting the PRAM or SMC (in the discussions I read), I still need to try that tonight and see if it affects anything.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sean

Macs are having problems with SSD drives. The root cause is the OS X journaling file system. The Apple-written SATA controller driver can saturate the bus at times, inhibiting performance. Some manufactures are even selling special "Mac" versions of their SSD drives that are slowed down on purpose to compensate for this problem. Unfortunately, the problem still exists in Snow Leopard, from what I've read.
Also, I read that Apple has secretly slowed the recent new laptops down (3.0GB/s to 1.5GB/s) to compensate for the problem.

  • For some reason My Imac will not wake up with bluetooth Trackpad or keyboard from being in sleep mode over night.

During the day it wakes up fine. this just happens on over night. I can press the power button on the Imac and screen wakes up but my trackpad or keyboard will not work. After I Restart my Imac by holding down the power button until it shuts down and then pressing to power back on it works right away. this starting happening about a week after Lion upgrade

I've been dealing with the same issue of not waking up from sleep.  For a long while, I turned off the option entirely just so I wouldn't get mad at my computer.  The difference with my setup, however, is that I use a USB keyboard w/ a USB mouse.  I tried most the "solutions" that I've come across on these boards.  What upsets me the most is the vast number of similar posts without a clear answer.
Anyways, since I use wired keyboard and mouse, I just turned bluetooth off on this computer and tried once more to wake it from sleep.  Surprisingly, it worked.  My suggestion, try a wired keyboard and mouse with Bluetooth disabled on the computer.
Edit: I spoke too soon.  On the second attempt, it did not wake.  For reference, that one single time that it woke up was the only time I've ever had my computer's display wake from sleep mode (like many, the computer wakes, but the display won't).
Here's to hoping that whatever is causing the problem is not around in Lion.

  • MSI GT70 2PE Pro Shuts off after power up and sleep mode, then works

I got this laptop less than a year ago and I am kinda getting upset about my decision buying it. It is the GT70 Dominator Pro with the GTX880M graphics card.
Only thing I did was install a SSD drive for my main drive and use the 1TB drive that it came with as a storage drive. Everything was working perfectly for about 4 months without any issues.
My problem started with the laptop shutting off in the middle of playing Watch dogs and wouldnt boot to windows, so i went to the BIOS and found out for some reason it changed my primary drive to the storage so i changed it back and all was good. After about a month it similar thing happened but this time I couldnt even get to the BIOS, after pressing the F10 or whatever it is for BIOS the computer freezes in a black screen.
I contacted MSI and sent it out for warranty, they had to change the whole motherboard as it was not serviceable (Issue was a faulty MB).
Last week the laptop started acting up again, here is my issue. When powering it on the fan and light comes on but after couple of seconds it turns off, then powering it on for 2nd time it works. This happens 80% of the time, i have to turn it on twice before it works.  Even more frustrating thing is when it is at Sleep mod, I press the power to wake it up, so it does but before getting to windows screen it shuts off.
I was wondering if anyone have similar issue like mine or know what could cause this. My tower PC that i built have a MSI board and graphic card thats why I went with their laptop but I had pretty bad experience with it so far and its not a cheap laptop either. I might have to go through another warranty work if it keeps giving me the issue.

    Try update IRST driver.

  • Sending a bug report on the OS and a sleep mode problem.

I find the bug button in Safari really convenient for sending Apple bug reports. And when other applications crash, you usually get an error dialog with a button to send a bug report. But sometimes problems arise that require reporting, but which don't fall in either of these categories. It would be very handy to have a bug "button" for the OS, or perhaps just a menu selection in the Finder menu bar that invokes a bug report dialog box. I know you can dig around and find the URL for Apple's bug report web page, but I am always forgetting it -- I suppose I could just bookmark it, but then I'd just have to dig around in all the bookmarks to find it. Better would be a utility built-in to the OS for sending bug reports (like Safari's). It could also automatically transfer necessary info about the OS rev and such.
The problem I had was this. I have a script that puts my iMac to sleep. I put the script alias on the task bar and a single click puts the computer to sleep (easier than using the menu). Unfortunately, I sometimes click it by mistake when I am trying to click an adjacent icon in the task bar, and the Mac starts going through its cycle to enter sleep mode and is impervious to anything I do to try and cancel it. I tried pressing the space bar continuously to prevent it from going to sleep, but that did not work. Worse, when it went to sleep and I woke it up again, the task bar would not appear, clicking on app windows did not activate them, Finder menus could not be selected, etc. The cursor would move, but I could not do anything else. (I wish now I had noted if the clock in the menu bar was still advancing, but I didn't think to do that.) I powered down the iMac from the power key and rebooted. Things are working fine now.
I wanted to send a bug report on this, but realized that unlike Safari, there was no button or menu selection for doing that. So here I am.
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    TIA,
    Drake

My macbook pro won't "stay" in sleep mode for more than 2 seconds and wakes up. It also will restart automatically every time i shut it down.
I tried resetting PRAM. SMC. No good.

    Hello Kavans,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your MacBook Pro.  I recommend reviewing the following article for this issue:

  • AI scanclock sleep mode--labview RT

I've been using AI single scan in a time critical loop, with 0 buffer, to
sleep on the AI Scan Clock. Everything seemed to be working real nicely
(i.e, all of my lower priority threads seemed to be serviced correctly),
until I started trying to do hardware calls in lower priority threads to
"check" to see how long it took to service low priority threads by
initiating counter pulses at the onset and offset of these loops (there
seems to be no other reliable way to get this information with tens-of
microsecond resolution). All went to hell then. When I slowed down my
loop to try to use more "software" type sleep modes instead of the AI
single scan sleep (that is sleeping for milliseconds), everything seemed
    to work again.
    A
s we started delving in to see about different types of sleep modes, we
noticed that there is a small paragraph in the "counter wait" sleep mode
documentation that says while the time critical loop is asleep from a
counter wait, NI-Daq calls cannot be made. This would explain the
behavior I'm seeing (i.e, "all went to hell").
In any case, there is nothing in any of the development areas or
documentation stating that NI-Daq calls are not serviced while the time
critical loop is asleep due to AI Single Scan waiting for the AI scan
clock. It seems quite reasonable that this is the case, though, and it
makes sense to keep all your hardware calls in the time critical loop
(though I tried to violate this rule for testing purposes, and in fact
sleeping on a ms wait does allow such calls!). I just hadn't seen the
counter wait documentation because I'm not using the counter wait.
Long story short, are NIDaq calls serviced during an AI Single Scan
sleep? If not, can this be a
dded to the documentation where this type of
sleep is described?? This cost us about four days (though I probably
deserve it for making hardware calls in low priority loops!).
    Thanks
    Scott

    Hello Scott,
The behavior you are seeing is expected and is due to the fact that the NI-DAQ driver is a single-threaded DLL. For more information I would check out the following NI Developer Zone article:
Avoiding Shared Resources and Priority Inversions for Deterministic Applications
While we try to get as much useful information in the manual as possible, we always recommend checking out the NIDZ for good additional information.

  • My mac shuts down in prolonged sleep mode "because of a Problem".

If my mac book pro mid 2012 goes to sleep for a prolonged period of time I have to reboot it as hard start and get a message indicating that it shut down because of an problem.  How Do I fix this?
I had my mother board tested at a mac shop in Nepal while I was there and it came back as everything being perfect.
It does not always do this though and for short sleeps it never does.
I have had extensive changes done to this mac such as a 16GB Ram upgrade and replacing the hard drive with a 1 T Crucial Hard Drive and removing the DVD Player and adding in a 256 Solid State Drive.  So far everything has been working great.  Just recently I notice this occuring with the sleep mode so as a result I just shut down the computer fully when I am not near to it or using it.  Any advice as to what to look at or try out.

    godlovestodance,
your Mid 2012 needs 1600 MHz memory modules. Is your currently installed RAM of this variety?
In your current setup, is it your 1 TB HDD or your 256 GB SSD that is in the optical drive bay?
One thing you can try is this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it still crash because of an extended sleep?

  • USB 2.0 issue with sleep mode--help!

    hey there,
so i've searched this forum's board and found that it seems quite a few people have had issues with USB 2.0 and sleep mode on the mac. most of what i read, however, comes from people not being able to put the computer to sleep once new USB 2.0 cards or devices are installed. that is not the problemm I seem to be having, but is this:
I recently purchased a Belkin USB 2.0 PCI card, and installed it on my MAC G4 tower. It seemed to work ok for a little while, but then i noticed that AFTER i put the computer to sleep, when it 'awakens' from slumber, it no longer reads the USB devices. if the device was plugged in prior to sleep mode, it sometimes reads ok. but if I try and plug in a new USB device, such as an iPod or flash drive, no dice. it doesn't mount on the Mac.
I called Belkin tech support, and they were very helpful, but told me that the macs have had issues powering the USB PCI card once the computer is in sleep mode. they even directed me to an apple support page that has downloads that seem to address this, but they're for 10.0-10.0.4. I don't want to download that onto my mac (10.3.9) cuz im worried it might screw something up on my OS.
I would LOVE a download link for a software updater for this if someone knows where it is, otherwise, I may have to return this thing to Belkin and go with a more mac-friendly brand. so im open to that possibility, too.
any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
    cheers,
    the quid pro
    Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Dual 1Ghz, 1.5 GB SDRAM

I would either complain to Belkin for a fix if there is one or return the card and try a different one. You should not have the problem, but Belkin USB hubs and cards appear to have more problems like yours than other manufacturers' products.
    You might try Sonnet's Tango FW400/USB 2.0 multi-card, for example, or Firewire Direct's 6-port FW800/USB 2.0 card.
You may also want to check this page for some user reports on related products.

  • Mac Pro unexpectedly enters sleep mode

Ok so I installed Leopard last weekend on my Mac Pro and all initially went well with the install. After installation was done, software update appeared and stated I had approximately 4 downloads to install. So I had done this and prepared to reboot. Before rebooting, a window appeared stating that it needed to update the Boot cache. So I clicked on "OK" and the computer went into its shutdown sequence. When the computer reset, I noticed there was no start up chime and the system just sat there with a black screen. I thought perhaps it was updating the boot cache and it may take a while to finish. So I went afk for about an hour and came back. Still nothing. This is when I knew there was something seriously wrong with my system.
After speaking with Apple support and trying several things to get it to boot, the support rep stated that it will need to go into the shop for repairs. I had taken it to an authorized service center and they diagnosed the problem as a bad logic board. They had replaced this and had ran their diagnostic tools on it to make sure it was running normally. They kept it overnight and ran Apple Service diagnostics in a repeating loop on the system. They had also cold booted the system 30+ times per the work order.
After I brought it home and booted it, everything was seemingly running fine. Then I received a page from work (I'm a support rep) which required me to boot into Windows using Boot Camp to solve a client's problem. After I had done this, I booted Leopard back up and was playing around in it for a few minutes to check out some of the new features. I had then ran World of Warcraft to play a bit and to check out the performance increase in Leopard. After about 5 minutes of playing, my system unexpectedly entered sleep mode. Obviously I was confused so I had brought it out of sleep mode by hitting the enter key. The system came back for about 2 seconds and immediately went back into sleep mode again. This happened about 4 or 5 times before I finally shut the system down.
The first thing I did after reboot is to check the energy saver options. Both hard drive and monitor energy options were set to "Never". I then checked for software updates. There was both an SMC firmware update and a Boot Camp EFI(?) firmware update. I had done the SMC firmware update first and then after successfully updating this, I had done the Boot Camp firmware update. After reboot, the system went into sleep mode on its own approximately 5 minutes after reboot. This time I had made sure NOT to run my game as I had a suspicion that this could be causing the problem. It entered sleep mode anyway unexpectedly. After waking it up again by hitting the enter key, the desktop appeared again for about 2 seconds before going right back into sleep mode. I called the service center again and they said I would have to bring it in for them to look at. Needless to say, I am NOT very pleased.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this happening with a Mac Pro? I had never had any problems when I was running Tiger with any application, not even my game. The service rep where I took it said it was just bad timing that the logic board went during my OS upgrade and that the two had nothing to do with each other. My brother has a Mac Pro as well and he had upgraded to Leopard. Of course his computer works fine where mine is a sleeping fool. Does anyone have any ideas or theories as to what could be causing this? More importantly, does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to fix this on my own? If you could please let me know, I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your time.

Wow, who are you dealing with? The first time my logic board was replaced, the techs never bothered with looking at anything else as being the problem. However, when I pointed out the power supply fan problem, they focused on that being the cause of the problem and fixed just that. I was somewhat concerned as I know some of these techs do not look at other parts of the machine as potential problem causers. I was afraid that I would hook up my system only to experience the same problem as before. Luckily, that was not the case.
I am glad that your system appears to have the same problem as mine did. I would suggest that if you take it back to them again for a fan fix to have them run the system for about an hour after replacing it. They should be opening apps, checking the iStat widget, etc to try and make it break. If they can't after an hour or so, I think it should be ok.
This whole ordeal makes me question the quality of parts used by Apple. My brother has an iMac G4 where the hard drive died after 2 months of getting it new. Now this issue with mine and yours with the bad logic board and the power supply fan. Who knows how many other customers report hardware related problems?
