Single pages and spreads in alternate layouts

Hi, I am currently creating an alternate layout for a multipage InDesign document that already contains my print version inside the document. I have an understanding on how to create the alternate layout (for IPad: 1024px X 768px) yet when I create them the alternate Ipad layout appears as spreads. How can I make them into single pages while maintaining my spreads in my print layout.

You’re wasting your time, IMO. There’s simply no need to do this.
I would save it as a new file and work on that.
That said, I would encourage you to post in the InDesign EPUB forum.
BTW, what version of InDesign are you using?

  • Creating a pdf document with both single pages and spreads

Hi, i'm not sure if this is possible, but basically i'd like to set up a document which allows me view the first three pages as single sheets and the remainder of the document as a booklet. The reason for this is I'm sending a cover letter, CV and then a booklet via email to apply for a job, and the booklet i have created has graphics which run accross the spread. I was hoping to lay the document as such:
    1. cover letter
    2. CV
    3. Booklet front cover
    4-5. booklet spread
    6-7. booklet spread
    8-9. booklet spread
I'm not too familiar with how to set this up (or if this is possible), could anyone point me in the right direction?

@Dave Merchant - The pages are true spreads, I've had a go at attempting to define the page type by the master but i can't seem to get it to split the document so that the first three pages remain single. I had a go at trying to create an entire new document with the pages in in order, but not sure how to insert single pages and spreads combined within the document.
@Test Screen Name - Do you know how i would be able to create such a document within indesign? i've had a look for some answers in the documentation but havent come accross anything yet (im on CS5). I had a go at combining the documents as the booklet and the single pages, but when i change the view options in acrobat to two page the first pages becomes a cover and the second and third are next to each other.

  • 2 single pages, then spreads possible?

For a PDF ebook, I'd like to have the layout be like this:
Jacket front (single page), Page 1 (single page), Page 2–31 (spreads), page 32 (single), Jacket back (single).
I can get the pagination right by having the Jacket front be page i. But I can't get Acrobat to allow this sequence:
Single page; single page; several spreads (with 2 page numbers per spread); single page; single page.
Acrobat will only allow 1 single page, multiple spreads, 1 single page.
The only workaround so far is to add a blank page to the left of page 1 and one to the right of page 32, which is pretty clunky. Any better ideas? (Guess I could fill the blank pages with something...)
    Thanks!

  • Is it possible to print more than one picture at a time on a single page and if so, how?

is it possible to print more than one picture at a time on a single page and if so, how?

    Hi Rowegarth.
HP Photo Creations offers several ways to print multiple photos on a page. Here's a link to some preset grids. If you don't have HP Photo Creations already, you'll be prompted to download the software. (It's a free download.)
You could also start with a "Design Your Own" collage print with a white theme.
This video shows some ways to print multiple photos in HP Photo Creations to make them easier to cut out:

The beginning shows an older version of the software, but the second half (at 1:17) explains the grid settings.

  • Default to single page and fit page

Each time I export to PDF from Indesign CS4 I have to then go to Properties/initial view/then set single page and fit page. Is there any way to change the default so that it defaults to these views in Acrobat 9?
    Thanks
    Ian

It should only be overridden if the properties are set in the PDF. You might check for the properties being set by ID. As I have read, ID generally does it's own export of a PDF and does not use Acrobat.

  • PDF Spreads to Single Pages, and specify view options

I have a large InDesign document set up in 8.5 x 11 spreads. I need to export to PDF as single pages but also specify the page view as "fit to page."
If I use the Print options I can get the single pages, but can't seem to specify the page view.  If I use the Interactive options I can specify the page view, but everything exports as spreads instead of single pages.
    Am I missing something here?

Maybe I spoke too soon.  The script solved the problem of the spreads, but it created another one.  Now, when I use the "Interactive PDF" dialog box and specify the page view, none of the page links in the index work.  They are there, the cursor becomes a "hand" when hovering over the page numbers, but when I click it doesn't go anywhere.  If I use the "PDF to Print" dialog box and check the Hyperlink box, the links all work, but I don't get to specify the page view.
The script apparently does something to the page identification so the link doesn't carry forward properly from the individual book documents to the new single PDF that is created
BTW, I'm using InDesign 7.04 on a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac running 10.6.8, with 12GB of memory.
Color me frustrated. My job deadline is tomorrow, and I thought I was on target to meet that with no problem. After laying out 2000+ pages, I thought the PDF would be a simple no-brainer, but it seems to be the show-stopper.

  • How do I split a PSD file into a single page and convert to JPEG?

We have create a very large photo album and it is too large to upload to create a book.  We would like to keep all of the work we have done without re-doing a lot of work.  So, is there a way we can create a JPEG file with just one page of the two pages in a PSD file.  We tried to publish to a web file and created a JPEG file, but the file contained both pages.  We want to creat a single jpeg file for each individual page so we can keep all of the pictures and formating.  Is there a way to do this?  Thanks

If you have created a Photo-Book, it creates .pse file which internally has multiple PSDs.
If you open these PSDs one by one in Editor and same as JPEG, your purpose should be solved. Did you try that?

  • Alternate Layout Bug report-

I just opened an ID file with alternate layouts in ID CC. All the pages were there but, they were not layed out in the pages panel as alternate layouts; there was just one long list.
I selected a page and chose, "Create Alternate Layout", and the alternate columns in the Pages panel appeared. Command-Z deleted the last layout group just created.
Just thought you would like to know.
BTW, I wish it were possible to swap one page of an alternate layout with the first page of that alternate layout; unfortunately, that does not seem possible. It seems the first page must always remain the first page. This is my wish for the next update.

Did you try opeing the Pages panel flyout menu and choosing View Pages > By alternate Layout?

  • Adding pages to articles which contain alternate layouts

If I have an article with alternate layouts set up and decide I need to add another page it does not seem to play nicely.
In the pages palette  I have 2 columns iPad H and iPad V. If I create a new page under iPad H and try to give it an alternate layout I get a dialog saying "Alternate layout name cannot be blank, must be unique, and cannot end with a "*" or a ";" character." It will not let me save as iPad V as there is already a layout there so I save as iPad V2 but when I test on iPad the H page shows up in the layout but the V2 page does not.
Does this mean I need to create new article to replace the old one, add all my H layouts to it and then create alternate layouts for each of these again?
Cannot find a good tutorial on the subject.

Doesn't seem to work – something as simple as this! Screenshots show new page moved to end of doc and also what happens when I put after page 1.
Also attached are pages prefs. Pages and spreads allowed to shuffle. Is this correct? Pages just dance around rather than staying put!
Help very much appreciated, I'm probably missing something very obvious!

  • Is it possible to print a spread as single pages?

The file was created in InDesign CS5 and has to be saved as a .pdf. I want to view all of the spreads in the .pdf, but actually print them as single pages.

If the pages are exported to PDF as spreads, that's how they are going to print. You can export as single pages and set the initial view in Acrobat Pro so the file opens as spreads, with a single cover page if needed, but it won't look exactly the same as a true spread and it won't stop a user from changing the view.
Personally, I hate PDFs exported as spreads because they're really hard to navigate (same for two-column text meant to be read on screen).

  • In Adobe X, where did the "marquee zoom" and "single page scrolling" buttons go?

There are many other buttons that were available in earlier versions that are no longer there.
For single page with scrolling, apparently you now have to go View\Page Display\single page and then View\Page Display\Enable Scrolling, where before I had it on my toolbar, one-click and done.
Same for marquee zoom, I had a button, one-click and grab part of a page and you instantly had a close up.  Now it's go find the menu, View\Zoom\Marquee Zoom, THEN go grab your page.
When going to a new version, if the feature is still there, don't REDUCE the ways in which to turn it on, or make it so when you open a document it automatically turns off the feature you were just using in a previous document.
Let the users move the Quick Tools toolbars around, combine on one line, use the previous interface etc.  People who use software like this daily in their jobs (like me!) don't like having changes forced on them when their company chooses to update versions.  It's great when new useful features are added, but not at the cost of removing the stuff we already use all the time.

Go to View - Show/Hide - Rulers & Guides, and un-tick the Snap to Grid
    option.

  • Hello. How can I make it so firefox remembers which links I've visited as on the music singles pages for longer periods of time and more links?

I frequently use the singles pages on wikipedia, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:2012_singles&from=D
So I had already clicked on the links some months ago on the 2012 singles pages, but firefox forgot that I had clicked on the links there. How can I make it so it remembers for longer periods of time without causing problems to firefox? Also, I want it to remember what links I've clicked on the 2013 singles pages, because I am also keeping up with that. Can I tell firefox to remember all history for these pages, such as 2012 singles, or 2013 singles specifically? I just want firefox to remember what links I've visited, as in, the songs in the 2012/2013 singles pages, and not forget those, because I have already downloaded those so I want firefox to keep track. What are my options? Please let me know, and I hope you understand the problem I am describing.

My Firefox remembers history from over a year ago, and unless you are using a setting or external tool to clear it, or load huge numbers of pages/download huge numbers of files, Firefox should pretty easily remember links you've accessed in recent months.
To see what Firefox has computed as the number of URLs to remember, you can check here:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''.hist''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Look for '''places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages'''
Mine's set to 104858. I don't know how that was determined.
