Site Lookup Column As Managed Property

Please let me know if my logic here is incorrect or suggest better alternative. This is hosted on Office 365.
1. I have a Site Lookup column (EventLookup) that is linked to a list on my Root Site --> Lists/Events
2. I have a subsite with a list that references a (EventLookup) site column --> Lists/MyEvents
3. User creates an item in Lists/MyEvents and selects one of the Events from the Lookup Column
4. I crawl the site and in my crawled properties i can see ows_EventLookUp and ows_EventLookupUp:ID
5. I create a managed property KeyEventID and add ows_EventLookupUp:ID to it.
6. I add a CSWP and set KeyEventID:1 to return any item that has EventLookUp:ID is equal to 1.
Above never works, i cant search bring back any results based on that LookUp column.
Basically my managed property from a site lookup column doesn't work in Content Search Web Part. It is not filterable and doesn't return a value if i use search api to return it either.
help appreciated.

Hi Sudip,
Thanks for the response.
I did not get the answer to the first part.
Let me describe the scenario again:
Scenario-1: I have a site column and using the site column in the list. I am getting the crawled property and it is getting mapped to the managed property.
Result: I am good. Crawled property of site column is mapped to managed property.
Scenario-2:I have a list and I created a column (Go to List setting and created a column as Single line of text called "Foo").
Result: Here I don't see the crawled property getting created and mapped to Managed property.
Action taken to see the crawled property as given below:
1. Index reset
2. Full Crawl
Still for the Scenario-2: I don't see the crawled property.
Can I expect the crawled property to be available for created list column "Foo"?

  • Site lookup columns empty on some subsites.

    Hello all,
    I have a lookup column that contains employee info from a list stored in the root of the site collection. I called it lkupEmployeeName
    On one sub site that is one level down from the root, I have another list that contains projects. The lkupEmployeeName column is used to reference the employee name. This works fine.
    I created another subsite one level down from the root and have a list there called equipment. Using the same lkupEmployeeName column there, the column is empty and I get a message stating that the service is not avail right now, click here to try again.
    Of course clicking it results in nothing.
    I added a new list item to the employee info table to see if the lkupEmployeeName column would update in the projects list and it does. Going to the equipment list in the site next door and it is still empty.
    I have tried making another sub site and another lookup column. And for whatever reason any lookup columns I make now only work at the same level that they were created on. If I try to use the column on a different site they are empty.
    Looking in SharePoint Manager, I have found the listID and webID attributes to be correct.
    I have tried this with service pack one and without service pack one. (I have the machine duplicated in VMware) Either host has the same exact results.
    My thoughts are that newly created sub sites are not connecting to the lists properly but I don't know why this is. The correct listID is showing in SharePoint Manager so I am stumped.
    Ideas?

    Update.
    The above mentioned behavior happens if I use SharePoint designer to add site lookup columns to the list.
    I just tried to add the site lookup columns by going to the list settings using the web interface and the lookup columns work fine. Apparently there is some sort of bug with the designer as I tried the same steps from another machine and it did the same
    thing. There must be some sort of data missing that is not getting saved when I save the list through SharePoint Designer.
    For now I will mark this thread as answered but I would still like to know the cause of this behavior if anyone else has any input.

  • Site lookup columns that contain a list with lookup columns help needed

    Here is the theoretical scenario,
    I have a list called Shirts. The list contains name,color, and size columns.
    I have a list called Pants This list contains name, color and size columns as well.
    These two lists are contained at the root level of the site. I created site lookup columns for these two lists and used the name, color and size columns as additional fields on both lookup columns. Lets call these lkupPants and lkupShirts.
    On a sub site I have a list called people. It contains name,date,lkupPants and lkupShirts columns.
    The list looks something like this is dataview:
    Name Date lkupPantsName lkupPantsColor lkupPantsSize lkupShirtName lkupShirtColor lkupShirtSize
    This is the behavior I expected. The additional columns selected in the site lookup columns appear in the list.
    I now create another site lookup column this one is based on the list called people at this subsite level. When creating the site lookup column, the data from lkupPants and lkupShirts are not available.
    How can one create a lookup column that contains list data and any lookup columns contained in the list as additional fields.
    If anyone can see where I am going with this, can they provide another means to accomplish what I am trying to do?
    fr0stsp1re

    create additional columns in people list.  look up values are available in the workflow so populate the additional columns with the values you need.  this will allow you to create another look up column based on this list and all the fields needed.
     just a thought.

  • Managed Property in Refinement - why not use the automatically-created site column managed property

    Hi,
    I read that although SharePoint 2013 automatically creates managed property for site column (OWS_Q_TEXT_COLUMNNAME) - in the refinement i should use a managed property and map to the ows_columnname. why?
    what's the difefrence?
    what is best - to create a new managed property (and set it as refinable) or use the OOB Refinementstring0, Refinementstring1 etc.)?
    keren tsur

    You are probably talking about this blog post.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/tothesharepoint/archive/2013/11/11/how-to-add-refiners-to-your-search-results-page-for-sharepoint-2013.aspx
    The reason you want to use the ows_columnname crawled property is because it is of the correct data type. The other is always text. If the site column is a date or a decimal then using the OWS_Q_TEXT... crawled property,will cause the refiner not to display
    the appropriate control, for example a slider control for a date type refiner.

  • No search result using managed property from a column of a published infopath form

    Hi,
    I'm trying to use a managed property in the advanced search to retrieve only words from a column of a published InfoPath form. We are using FAST Search and verify that the column are being crawled by checking the crawled property in Central Admin but still
    cannot retrieve search result for the managed property. We also do a full crawl before testing the search. Thank you..

    Hi Rommel,
    When we create a column from a list (not site column), then we need create list item with this column value, then we need to full crawl, then the the crawled propery ows_listColumnName will be generated, then create a managed property to map this
    crawled property(start a full crawl again if needed), then add the custom managed property in advance search web part property, then check again.
    Here is an article about how to add the custom managed proerpty in advanced search web part, you can take a look.

    Hi Tailorworld
    please try the power shell script because you are facing problumn with default content type feature
    Run the SharePoint 2010 Management Shell as Administrator.
    Run the following command to disable the default content type feature:
    Disable-SPFeature –Identity ctypes –url http://SiteCollection
    Then enable the content type feature:
    Enable-SPFeature –Identity ctypes –url http://SiteCollection
    If you look at your content types, they should now all be there.  Try saving the subsite as a template again, it should succeed.

  • How to use viewslifetime managed property to get the list of sites which are least accessed?

    Hi,<o:p></o:p>
    I am trying to get the subsites of a site collection which are least accessed. I am using ViewsLifeTime managed property in a content search web part with a condition like this:
    ViewsLifeTime < 0
    OR
    ViewsLifeTime = 0.
    However, It is not giving any results. I even tried with ViewsLifeTime < 10. I have some subsites which are accessed less than 10 times. I came to know this when I saw the value of ViewsLifeTime

  • Issue with site template that contains a document library with a lookup column to another list

    I have a document library called Proposals with a lookup column in the same site called Document Categories (multiple values allowed).  It points to a list called document categories.  I have several sample documents in the Proposal Library that
    contain valid document categories.  When I save the site as a template and instantiate it, everything is fine.  However, when I remove the sample documents from the Proposal library and rebuild the site template, I can't get the  template to
    create another site.  I get an error Unable To Open Lookup List.
    I don't understand why I can instantiate a site from the template when there's sample data, but not when the document library containing the lookup column is empty.
    Does SharePoint 2010 site template support lookup columns?
    Why would it make a difference if the library is empty?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred when you created a site from the template with no files in the document library.
    I tested the same scenario per your post, and I can create a site from the template with no files in the document library with no errors.
    To solve this issue, I recommend to verify the things below:
    Did you save the site as a template with Include Content checked? If yes, I recommend to test if it works when saving the site as a template with Include Content unchecked.
    Test the same scenario with a new site to narrow the issue scope.
    I also recommend to check the event log and ULS log to see if anything unexpected occurred.
    To check event log, click the Start button and type “Event Viewer” in the Search box.
    For SharePoint 2010, by default, ULS log is at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS.
    You can check the ULS log by the methods here:

  • Create Site Column and add it to two different list as dependent lookup column

    I want to create two lookup lists that will have one common column. The common column values will vary depending on the list.
    For ex: List A holds Countries (USA) and their Currency code (USD). List B holds States (New York) and their code (NY). The lists are completely independent of each other. I would like to create a common site column named "Code" of type
    Text and use it across these two lists. Is it possible?
    My solution so far -
    a. created the site column (programmatically) which is pretty straight forward.
    b. created list definition with two fields (Title and Code).
    c. created list instance for Country list. Added data rows in the elements.xml. But not sure how to add Code field as dependent lookup.
    If I remove the code field from the elements.xml, the solution deploys successfully creating the Country list with just the Title field. But I need both the fields. Any help is appreciated.
    Here is a look at the elements.xml with data rows for Country list instance
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">
    <ListInstance Title="List Instance" OnQuickLaunch="TRUE" TemplateType="10001" Url="Lists/CountryList" Description="Country Values">
    <Data>
    <Rows>
    <Row>
    <Field Name="Title">USA</Field>
    <Field Name="Code">USD</Field>
    </Row>
    <Row>
    <Field Name="Title">Japan</Field>
    <Field Name="Code">Yen</Field>
    </Row>
    <Row>
    <Field Name="Title">Australia</Field>
    <Field Name="Code">AUD</Field>
    </Row>
    </Rows>
    </Data>
    </ListInstance>
    </Elements>

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to add lookup field to the list in elements.xml.
    I recoment you to create lookup column as site column, then bind the lookup column to the contnet type, and then use the contnet type in the list.
    For more information, you can refer to:

  • Move sharepoint 2010 list to 2013 with lookup columns

    Hi all,
    Iam planning to move my sharepoint 2010 list to 2013.I done this using save site as template.But the look up columns are showing empty data.Can u please let me know the best solution to do this.
    Regards,
    Praveen

    The reason the lookup column doesn’t work anymore in your SharePoint 2013 list is because Save
    Site as Template, preserve all the list settings. Therefore, the lookup column still points to the original list which
    was located on your SharePoint 2010 list. The lookup column stores GUID of the web, list, and the field to which it points
    and GUID are unique IDs that identifies a list/library/site/feature in a farm.
    Using SharePoint Manager you can find the LookupList, LookupWebId and LookupField of
    your old SharePoint 2010 lookup column and compare it with your new 2013 lookup column. You will see the difference.
    There are two approach to get your values in lookup again.
    1(a). Create a new list and update the lookup values.
    1(b). Delete the lookup column and create a new lookup column and point it to the new list created in the above point.
    2. Update the SchemaXml property
    of the lookup column through SharePoint Manager.
    I will provide you with a good reference on how to use SharePoint Manager while managing your lookup columns. http://blog.johnsworkshop.net/moving-lists-with-lookup-columns-inside-your-site-collection/

  • Default Managed Property Refinable String does not Show up results: No values found

    Hi All,
    I've got issues getting a Custom Site column values to show up on a Refinement Panel. Please find the steps I've performed till now:
    Custom List with 2 Site Columns (Designation & Client)
    Have inserted 10 items
    Did a Full Crawl
    Modified OOB Managed property RefinableString00 to Map the OWS_Designation
    Went to the Search page which has the refinement Panel and Search Results WP, on the edit properties Choose refiners tab have selected the RefinableString00 but it is not showing any values even If get that item searched.
    Query text of the Search results webpart has been restricted to a list. (path:"http://Servername/Lists/Listname"  (contentclass:"STS_ListItem") {searchboxquery})
    Also tried reindexing the list and doing a full crawl again.
    This is what I get while trying to add the refiner
    No values found
    We don't have any refiners to show you
    No issues in loading the data for the Designation column in the Search results webpart using the display template.
    Please help me to sort out this issue.

    Hi,
    I followed the article below to add site column as refiner to my Search center:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/tothesharepoint/archive/2013/11/11/how-to-add-refiners-to-your-search-results-page-for-sharepoint-2013.aspx
    It worked in my envrionment, I have a ListB with three columns including Title, a lookup column and Designation. And I added three items, there is one as: b1, a1, de1. So the search returns result as below:
    When I edited Refinement web part and add RefinableString00 to it, it returned no value.
    However, when I search for item such as b1, the refiner works.
    If it doesn't work in your situation, I'd recommend you start full crawl after reindexing list. Also, ignore step6 in your post at first to see if refiner works.

    Thank you for your posting!
    According to your description, I try to reproduce your scenario in my SharePoint Server 2013 environment.
    I create a lookup column in a list and create a workflow 2013 for the list. In the workflow, I add Send an email action. Then I display the lookup column in the body of the email as the below figure:
    When I start the workflow, it works fine.
    Have you installed

  • Managed property value is not returned in item template for ArticleStartDateOWSDATE

    Environment: SharePoint 2013 online
    Related parts: Search Result web part (OOB), Display template for search result items
    Base type: article page
    I have a search result page, it has a search result web part on it, for the display template, it is using a default for list, using  "single template to display items" option to point to a custom item template.
    The search returns list of articles, just title and abstract, it works fine.
    We need to add "Article Date" to be displayed. "Article Date" is a OOB site column under "Publishing Columns".
    I found its field name is ArticleStartDate, then from search schema, I found the corresponding managed property name is "ArticleStartDateOWSDATE", the mapped crawled property is "ows_q_DATE_ArticleStartDate".
    In order to display it, I added managed property mapping to the item template to map to ArticleStartDateOWSDATE.
    The code is like,
    <mso:ManagedPropertyMapping msdt:dt="string">&#39;Title&#39;:&#39;Title&#39;,&#39;,&#39;MyArticleStartDate&#39;:&#39;ArticleStartDateOWSDATE&#39;</mso:ManagedPropertyMapping>
    var ArticleDate = $getItemValue(ctx, "MyArticleStartDate");
    The value of variable (ArticleDate) is empty when try to display it.
    Please let me know if you re-create this issue or have a solution to display the value.
    BTW, on "Content search" web part, I can map ArticleStartDateOWSDATE to "Line 3", and display its value. So I know the managed property itself should be fine.
    Thanks in advance,
    John
    John Architect

    I think your input value is wrong,, when I did HTML decode of your Managed properties :
    &#39;Title&#39;:&#39;Title&#39;,&#39;,&#39;MyArticleStartDate&#39;:&#39;ArticleStartDateOWSDATE&#39;
    It gives :
    'Title':'Title',','MyArticleStartDate':'ArticleStartDateOWSDATE'
    i.e. wrong, if you see there is extra comma in between.

  • Content Search Web Part and Managed Property

    Do I have to have cross-site collection publishing feature turned on for the Content Search Web Part to show a managed property?
    I have a list and a column in that list called Colors. I created a managed property out of the crawled property for Colors column. On a page within the same site-collection, I added a content search web part (displays items from the earlier list) and
    trying to display the managed property for Colors to show up for each of the items. For some reason, Colors value is not being displayed for the items.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks, Peter, appreciated. Here is my problem:
    I created a site column and added it to the list. Added an item that has a value for this site column. System automatically generated a crawled property for the site column and also a managed property. Do I still have to perform step # 5 from above?
    Now when I go into the content search web part and change the query to use this managed property as a refiner, it does not work.
    I will try the debugging as you suggested.
    In the meanwhile, Please let me know if you know of anything wrong I am doing.
    UPDATE: I debugged it using IE Dev. Toolbar and the value for that managed property is being returned as null. What could be going wrong? How can I further troubleshoot this problem?

  • List column as Crawled Property not appearing

    Hi,
    I have a column in a list. Can I expect it to be available as crawled property?
    If crawled property is available will it be automatically mapped to Managed Property?
    Scenario-
    I have a list and I created a column (List setting and created a column as Single line of text called "Foo").
    To see the crawled property, I ran the full crawl but did not see the crawl property for "Foo".
    Can someone please help me out here?

    Hi Sudip,
    Thanks for the response.
