Size (in Bytes) of data in response.
Hi;
Is there a quick way of getting the size (length of data) in the response?
The api, as I see it, only has a reponse.getBufferSize. I need something like string.length().
Thank you much.

Hi, I am using USB 8476s to communicate to a slave unit in LIN network. Can anyone tell me how i can send a header frame plus 1 byte of data to the slave in a LIN network. or how do I communictae with slave using LabVIEW7.1.
I want to read responses from the slave. When i tried with labview exapmle programs or even using MAX also, while doing some switching action in my slave, i am getting response as Device inactive with timestamp but there is no data format.
And I have Lin Description File. Can you suggest me how to use ldf file.
I am at customer place and It would be great help from you if you can suggest me at the earliest. Thank youyou may use the LDF Starter Kit to use LDF informations in your application

Hi all,
I am new to the world of labview and am attempting to build a VI which sends commands to a 750-881 WAGO controller at periodic intervals of 10ms.
To set each of the DO's of the WAGO at once I therefore attempt to send the Modbus fc15 command every 10ms using the standard Labview TCP write module.
When I run the VI it works for about a minute before I recieve an Error 56 message telling me the TCP connection has timed out. Thinking this strange, I decided to record the number of bytes sent via the TCP connection whilst running the program. In doing so I noticed that the connection broke after exactly 113655 Bytes of data had been sent each time.
Thinking that I may have been sending too many messages I increased the While-loop delay from 10ms to 20, 100 and 200 ms but the error remained. I also tried playing with the TCP connection timeout and the TCP write timeout but neither of these had any effect on the problem.
I cannot see why this error is occuring, as the program works perfectly up untill the 113655 Bytes mark.
I have attached a screenshot of the basic VI (simply showing a MODBUS command being sent every second) and of a more advanced VI (where I am able to control each DO of the WAGO manually by setting a frequency at which the DO should switch between ON and OFF).
If anybody has any ideas on where the problems lie, or what I could do to further debug the program this would be greatly appreciated.
Solved!

Hi ThiCop,
Yes the error occurs after exactly 113655 bytes every time. The timeout control I would like to use is 10ms, however even increasing this to 1s or 10s does not remove the error, which leads me to believe that this is not the issue (furthermore, not adding any delay to the while loop, thus letting it run at maximum speed, has shown that the TCP connection is able to send all 113655 bytes in under 3 seconds again pointing towards the timeout control not being the issue here).
I attempted Marco's suggestion but an having difficulty translating the string returned into a readable string, (rightnow the response given is " -# + ").
As to your second suggestion, I implemented something similar where I created a sub VI to build a TCP connection, send a message and then close the connection. I now build each message and then send the string to this subVI which successfully sends the command to my application. Whilst not being the most elegant method of solving the issue, it has resolved the timeout problem meaning I am able to send as many commands as I want. So in that sense the problem has been solved.
If you still have tips on how to correctly read the TCP read output, I would however like to see if I could not get my first program to work as it is slightly more robust in terms of timing.
Modbus TCP RTU is a binary protocol, as you show in your Basic VI, where you format the data stream using byte values. So you have to interprete the returned answer accordingly with the Modbus RTU spec in hand. Now what is most likely happening is that the connection gets hung after a while since you do NOT read the data the device sends as response to your commands. The TCP/IP stack buffers those bytes and at some point the internal buffers overflow and the connection is blocked by the stack. So adding the TCP Read at strategic places (usually after each write) is the proper solution for this. Is there any reason that you didn't use the NI provided Modbus TCP library?

Determination of array size in bytes
Dear forum users,
I want to determine the size of an array subset in bytes.
At the moment I try to do this as shown in my attached program: Simply said, I am reading in my data (example data can also be found in the attachment) and convert them into an array. From this array I am taking the subset I am interested in. This array subset is saved in a new file from which I determine the byte size with the “Get File Size.vi”.
That are a lot of steps with file saving (deletion of the compulsory created new file not mentioned) just to get the byte size of this array subset. And with this approach the file size (the byte size of my array subset) is unfortunately depending on the format with which I save the file (%.6f or similar), but I would need the byte size of this subarray as it would be in the original file (see my comment on the front panel).
Therefore, I want to know if there is a better, simpler, quicker and correct way to get the byte size of a subarray.
I would be very happy about every comment and help!

ExampleData.txt 1114 KBDear GerdW and smercurio_fc,
Thanks a lot for your replies! Perhaps I should have mentioned that I need the size of my array (string…, I am confused now) in bytes because I want to use later in my program the “Set File Position.vi” (which needs an offset in bytes). With this vi I want to read in my data again but starting after the data which I have used in my array (I try to make bunches out of my file).
Ok, the suggestion of GergW is a step forward, but it does not work correctly. I have modified my program a bit (see attachment), so that it gives back the file size of the original file and the length of the string after the file has been read in. Interestingly, the numbers are not the same. The same is also true for my subarray (and the string length is still dependent on the format with which I convert my array to a string).
So once again asked: If I take from my original file lines 3 to 12, copy them in a new file and save this file, then I can read out the size of the file (191 bytes). How can I get the same number in LabVIEW after reading in the original file and taking the same subarray? I hope my question is clearer now (it is surely suffering a bit from my bad English. I am sorry!).
I hope to hear from you again!

Cluster size in bytes programatically
Is there something that implements a C stype "sizeof" in labview? I need to call a dll and pass in a cluster value and it's size in bytes.
Thanks
EugeneIf the cluster doesn't have variable length data (strings and arrays), flatten the cluster to string and get the string length.

How to find the size of the master data objects in the BW system?
Hi,
We would like to understand the size of the master data tables overall for a specific source system (Logical name is Ex.ABCD, which supplies all master data to BW). Can you please advise the procedure to find out this?
Is there any table that will allows to see all the master data objects related to specific sources system so that we can find out that table size? Thanks.
For example, we have many Texts, Hier & Attributes.
0COUNTRY_TEXT
0REGION_TEXT
0PERSON_ATTR
0MATERIAL_LPRH_HIER
Advance Thanks.
Edited by: BW USA on Feb 2, 2010 10:52 AMHi,
You can find out all the master data tales used in the BW system by
Tcode : SE11
Enter as /BIC/P* for master data tables and press F4 which gives list of master data tables currently used in BW system.
Similarly for Texts /BIC/T* and press F4
Similarly for Hierarchies /BIC/H-* press F4
and can know the size of the all tables.
Thanks,

How to get the file size (in bytes) for all files in a directory?

The following code does not work. isFile() does NOT recognize files as files but only as directories. Why?
Furthermore the size is not retrieved correctly.
How do I have to code it otherwise? Is there a way of not converting f-to-string-to-File again but iterate over all file objects instead?
Thank you

DeserializeJSON - is there a limit on the size of the JSON data that can be converted?
I have some valid JSON data that's being converted successfully by DeserializeJSON... until it gets to a certain size, or that's certainly what appears to be happening. The breaking point seems to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 35,000 characters... about 35KB. When the conversion fails, it fails with a "JSON parsing failure: Unexpected end of JSON string" message. And when the conversion fails, the JSON data is deemed to be valid per tools like this one: http://www.freeformatter.com/json-validator.html.
So, is there a limit on the size of the JSON data that can be converted by DeserializeJSON?
Thanks!Thanks Carl.
The JSON is being submitted in its entirety, confirmed by Fiddler. And it's actually being successfully saved to a SQL Server nvarchar(MAX) field too. I can validate that saved JSON.
I'm actually grabbing the JSON to convert directly from the SQL Server, and your comments / thoughts led me down the path of resolution.
Turns out that the JSON was being truncated prior to getting to the DeserializeJSON command, but it was the cfquery pull that was doing the truncating. The fix was to enable "long text retrieval (CLOB)" for this datasource in CF Admin. I'd never run into that before or even knew that this setting existed.
Thanks again for your comments! -
I pull fiftyfour bytes of data from MicroProcessor's EEPROM using serial port. It works fine. I then send a request for 512 bytes and my "read" goes into loop condition, no bytes are delivered and system is lost
Hello,
You mention that you send a string to the microprocessor that tells it how many bytes to send. Instead of requesting 512 bytes, try reading 10 times and only requesting about 50 bytes at a time.
If that doesnt help, try directly communicating with your microprocessor through HyperTerminal. If you are not on a Windows system, please let me know. Also, if you are using an NI serial board instead of your computers serial port, let me know.
In Windows XP, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, Communications, and select HyperTerminal.
Enter a name for the connection and click OK.
In the next pop-up dialog, choose the COM port you are using to communicate with your device and click OK.
In the final pop
-up dialog, set the communication settings for communicating with your device.
Type the same commands you sent through LabVIEW and observe if you can receive the first 54 bytes you mention. Also observe if data is returned from your 512 byte request or if HyperTerminal just waits.
If you do not receive the 512 byte request through HyperTerminal, your microprocessor is unable to communicate with your computer at a low level. LabVIEW uses the same Windows DLLs as HyperTerminal for serial communication. Double check the instrument user manual for any additional information that may be necessary to communicate.
Please let me know the results from the above test in HyperTerminal. We can then proceed from there.

Limit size (in byte) of SELECT-OPTIONS in WHERE clauses
hi,
as far as I know there is a limit size (in byte) for SELECT-OPTIONS used in WHERE clauses. Is it true? What is the limit? If the SELECT-OPTIONS is based on lifnr (character type, 10 long) is the following calculation valid?
sign - 1 byte
option - 2 bytes
low - 10 bytes
high - 10 bytes
23 bytes all together for one line, is this valid?

How to get folder size in bytes
Hi all,
Is there a easy way to get folder size in bytes? I don't want to check each file in it and then add them up.
Thanks for any help.
AnneYears ago, I found my home PC was lacking disk space and could not exaplain where all of the space went.
At the same time I was teaching myslef how to use the Picture control and Windows did not allow you to check the size of a folder and it sub-folders. So I used that situation to learn about the picture control and LV at the same time.
It worked and ran but very slowly.
Soon after Greg McKaskle was putting together the first version of "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" and was looking for fodder to beat up. I offered and he accepted. When the time came for the presentation, my code was chosen as "The bad" since I had not learned how to do a cluster sort at that time so I wrote my own version of a bubble sort (the VI presents a Pie Chart of disk usage and clcik on the sectors of the Pie Chart allowed you to drill down so I hd to sort by sizes).
So why am I telling you this long boring story?
That code is attached for you to look at laugh and tell me how dumb I was.
Feel free to beat me up. It can't be any worse than the abuse I got from Greg (I felt like I was being raped).
Have fun!

Gopi.Hi Gopi,
We can use the Function module TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP to read the Excel file into the internal table. From this internal table you can fill the target internal table.
Do not need to use CALL METHOD cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_upload.
just declare ur internal table with fields use above function module. u dont need to give field separator while uploading data from excell file.

When a master recipe is scheduled, the lot size can be proposed in two different units of measure
If a base quantity is maintained in the material master (view Work scheduling), the lot size is entered in the base quantity of the material master. If no base quantity is maintained, it is entered in the unit of measure of the recipe header (header unit).
That is, the unit of measure of the lot size is predefined by the system and you cannot choose it.
If the lot size is entered in base unit of measure for scheduling, up to now, no conversion between base unit of measure and header unit occurs. The lot size (in base unit of measure) is converted into the operation quantity directly via the conversion factors of the operation. The scheduling result is incorrect. and system display the message Lot Size different to master data.

R.Brahmankar
