Hi AlanCWCampbell,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your Sky email account is not working normally on your Mac. For troubleshooting help, I'd recommend starting with the tips found at this link:
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages - Apple Support
The methods outlined here can help troubleshoot your Mac when one email account is not behaving.
Sincerely,

When trying to update my Mail Account Mailbox Behaviours settings, after making the changes when I try to close the settings pane the following messages occur: Invalid Incoming Mail Server The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty. The incoming mail server box has in light grey colour: p02-imap.mail.me.com in it and I cannot edit its content. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

    Hi all,
Mattreichenbach is probably on the right track here with a reset of settings.  I think I've determined the issue has to do with cached account information and inconsistencies for the account name.  This seems to crop up when I've changed my password and it hasn't propagated fully to all the servers, devices, certificates, etc.
Hopefully many here are on their way to restoration of service by now but it's clear that a lot of people are having the same issues.  Very frustrating and definitely something Apple needs to resolve:  incoming mail server field grayed out, incorrect autopopulation of different fields, other unanticipated behaviors.  If you're still having issues, though, here's what worked for me...
First, head to the iCloud preferences pane in System Configuration and choose "Sign Out".  When I did this it prompted me with a number of "are you sure" type questions about retaining information on my local machine.  I chose to delete/remove the info each time simply because it should all be restored by the cloud and I didn't want to risk a massive duplication of my data... I will say, I'm back up and running with no issues so I suspect you can make the same delete/remove choices...  But use your own judgment.  I don't want you to lose any data (ie.. please use care as you do this because I cannot bear the thought of causing anyone to experience the pain of data loss).
Once you've signed out of iCloud, restart your system.  When you get back in, head to the Mail, Contacts and Calendars section of your System Preferences and add your account back by choosing the brushed aluminum "iCloud" button.  When it asks for your account name, use your @iCloud.com email address.  I am all but certain my issue had started because one of my devices (iPhone or whatever) had been set up with an email alias specified instead of my @iCloud.com address.
Apple, if you're reading through any of these issues (there are TONS of users having this same problem).  Take note, that your icloud service somewhat frequently is not responding and yet tells the user that the password is wrong and this prompts people to be changing their passwords unnecessarily.  This has happened to me on numerous occasions.  Also, I noticed that last week's outage corresponded to a VERY similar outage exactly one year ago to the day.  Sounds like planned maintenance to me and I think you could do a better job notifying folks so we're not wasting HUGE amounts of time troubleshooting a problem that we have no hope of fixing.
Hope that helps some of you!

  • What is the point of the Mail Activity box?

At the bottom left of the Apple Mail app. window, there is a Mail Activity box. This used to be very useful back in the days of, I think, Tiger, or maybe Leopard, but since upgrading to Lion, nothing has ever appeared in that box. If I want to see Activity I have to open a new window.
Why does this box still exist? Is there any way to get Activity to appear in that box as it used to, and, I suppose, as it is supposed to?

I think it serves two purposes... first it blocks visability from your archive mail box and two some networks dont use the internet so if you are getting mail and you have to go through a bunch of nonsense it shows up. LIke if you work for a company or goverment agency, their networks may not be connected to the out side world like using dialup, dsl, or high speed internet like you and me do.

  • When I send a message using hotmail.co.uk, it does not appear in my Mac Mail sent box. How do I rectify this?

I am using Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.2) on my MacBook (mid-2009); Mail version 6.1 (1498).
My incoming mail server is pop3.live.com (Hotmail).
When I send an email on the Hotmail website, it does not register in my Mac Mail sent box.
    How do I rectify this?
Many thanks for your help in advance.

You have to send it from the Mail program on the Mac not the website. When you send it from the website it is in the sent folder on the website.
I handle all my mail in the Mac Mail program never the website.

  • Image sent with photo app does not show on mail sent box. How do I find it?

My daughter sent a photo from the photo album on her itouch. I search it in her mail sent box, but I cannot find it. Any idea how to find it?
    Thanks

Are you looking into the right mail account on the iPod? If yo send an item like a photo from an app it gets sent from the default account on the iPod.
Did the recipient get the mail message? Maybe it was never sent.

  • Why doesn't the "Mail" content box?

When I try add mail content box. It does not appear in the "Add Content" box. Why? "Mail" should be between "Organization View" and "Profile" content box. I restarted a few times.

Edit first messsages: Mail component should be between "Forums" and "Members" components. But isn't there in my WebCenter Portal.

  • Why does my Mail in-box suddenly show items in trash or junk?

Why do messages I've deleted or moved to another folder still appear in my Mail in-box? Sent messages also are suddenly appearing in my in-box.  Why? My in-box is suddenly showing everything I've got. It's overwhelming to have to sort through everything--and deleted items don't go away until I manually empty the trash.  I don't want to delete sent messages.  I want them to stay in my sent-mail box out of the way.
Is anyone else having this problem? It only started today.

    Hi Ninja-neko,
I can confirm that sent messages have been showing up in the inbox and is very confusing for quite a while now. I don't know why it does that or if I'm not using it right.
    Good luck,
    kel

  • The application "Notes" on my IPhone 3GS (IOS 6.0.1) is synchronized with a homonymous application of my e-mail yahoo box. Please how to solve it ?

The application "Notes" on my IPhone 3GS (IOS 6.0.1) is synchronized with a homonymous application of my e-mail yahoo box. Please how to solve it ?

Nothing to solve that is normal behavior. You can also sync it with icloud (settings icloud and turn notes on, settings mail contacts calendars yahoo mail account turn notes off.)  Other email providers support notes sync as well, but right now your default is yahoo.

  • How can I increase the width of the 'mail composer' box and put the attachment box (at present on the right) below it?

The width of the 'mail composer' box is too narrow so that with my email program half the buttons are missing.
    == All the time

    Thanks for your swift response.
I understand the difference between the web browser and email program.
I have just started using Firefox from IE and IE displayed the new mail page full width.
Firefox displays the reading web page full width but not the compose mail page because of the layout with the attachment box to the right of the box where you write your mail.
I was hoping that there was a way to customise and change the layout.
    Is that possible?

  • The incoming mail server box on my iMac is blank so unable to get mail and UNABLE to trype the mail server into the box it refuses to accept anything in itplease help

Im having lots of bother with my Mac Mail I cant recieve or send it . On checking I noticed the incoming mail server box in my Account is blank and it refuses to let me type anything in it so stays blank .  what can i do? help please.

Could I ask you to amend your signature - you can see why it's a good idea.
The first step for you would be to sign out in System Preferences>iCloud then sign back in again, enabling Mail and any other data types in the checklist there. This should set up Mail automatically for you - you shouldn't need to enter any settings yourself.
Your data will disappear from your Mac when you sign out, but will reappear when you sign back in.

  • Error with Sky E-mail

I'm hoping that someone out there can help me as Sky techical support are no help at all. I have my sky e-mail setup on my iPhone and it works perfectly fine, but when I try to set it up on my iPad, I can receive e-mails but not send them. I have completely deleted my account from my iPad and tried setting this up again but still does not work. I keep getting the error message "The username or password is incorrect", but it isn't as I can log in using my iPhone and direct on the sky website, Using the username and password I try and set it up on my iPad. I have even had a friend set his sky e-mail up on my iPad and his works ok, and I have even tried setting my e-mail up on his iPad but it does not work - keeps saying the same thing "The username r password is incorrect".. so so just to recap - I can receive e-mail, but not send on my iPad.. Apple have said that it's not a problem with my iPad (and I beleive them as other people can set their e-mail up ok), and sky have refused to accept any responsibility that it is a fault at their end... PLEASE HELP

Yes - using full e-mail address as username.
If you read my post you will see that my partner can set his up on my iPad but his wont set up on on his or mine using exactly the same setup

  • How do I stop receiving Mail alerts on the iPad? E.g when browsing Safari a Mail alert box will pop up when I receive a new email. I don't want this alert. Thanks.

How do I stop receiving Mail alerts on the iPad?
e.g. When browsing in Safari I will be interrupted by a 'ping' sound and a Mail alert box every time a new email comes in to my Inbox. This is irritating. How do I stop this? To see if I have new Mail I just prefer to go to Mail and my Inbox at convenient intervals.
    Thank you.

The same way you'd change any notifications: Settings>Notifications>Mail. Change it to "Banner" or "None".

  • "Mail Activity" Box Strange???

This morning I opened Mail,,, It got about three new messages. All normal so far,,
While I was reading the new mail I noticed that the "Mail Activity" box located down in the lower left side of the window was showing a download of 761, yes 761 messages.... it took several minutes to complete and I did not get any new messages......
What the devil is going on,,,,, I think this has happened before, but I just did not catch it.
Also, even when things seem normal, I always get a down load number of new mail that is twice the amount that actually shows up. Any ideas??
Am I going crazy??? Been using Mail for several years now,,,,,,

    Mike,
You probably deleted your Autoexec.bat file!!! Miss you, brother!
