Slider control and variable snapInterval

Hi all,
I have a (h)slider with values from 0 to 1000000. But in most
cases the values from 0 to 1000 will be used. This means that you
have to slide the slider very little. And this is an annoying
secure job.
Is there a way to have different snapIntervals specified in
just one slider?
For example, to have a slider with values 0 to 1000 with
snapInterval=1 and for the values 1000 to 1000000 a
snapInterval=100?

Is this possible within Flex?

Here you go. This is simple example. Maybe not the best way, I am just
beginner in LV and still not comfortable with data flow that much. I prefer
events, so I would change this to use Event Structures.
When you click on OK button on SliderMain, it opens Slider.vi. Now both
windows are open and you can interact with both. Now if you click on OK
again with Slider.vi open, you run into problems. Only thing I did was
change VI properties of slider.vi, mainly window appearance.

  • Can a slide control have a range of 180 to 0 to 180?

I've got a slide control and I want its range to be 180 to 0 to 180.  No negative numbers are displayed or shown in the data.  This is how a aircraft cockpit roll indicator is marked as well as some other gages.  Electricaly the indicator is like this:
0 volts equals 180 degrees roll to the left,
    5 volts is 0 degrees,
and 10 volts equals 180 degrees roll to the right.
Can slide controls work this way?  I would of thought there would be some sample code or something for aircraft cockpit gages but my searchs have been nill.  Thanks for any help.

You should be able to modify the control slider to do that.  The value would output 0 to 10 as you indicte for voltage but change the slider control to not display the numeric values with the ticks.  The use free text to lable the tick marks.  I don't know if you can actualy have the control equal to the same value in two different slider postions, but if you need to have 180 to 0 to 180, make the range have negative values and convert them to positive values in code.  You will still have to not show the slider values and use free text.

  • How to add external images onto a control and still be able to resize

    Hello,
I'm a LabVIEW newbie.  I'm trying to customize the appearance of my VIs, and one of the things I like to do is to import external image and paste it onto the faceplate of the gauge indicator.  I've followed the instruction in the Labview application note using the control editor and was able to paste the picture into indicator.  But when I use it in the front panel and resize the gauge indicator, the image (added as a decoration) doesn't resize together with the indicator.  My questions are:
    1. How to add external images onto a control/indicator and still be able to resize the image automatically when I resize the control/indicator?
    2. How to "add" a new part to an existing control/indicator?  It looks like I can only customize/modify the existing parts of the control/indicator in the control editor.
    Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

1/ Do not use the image as an added decoration. Instead replace part of the control with the image. Tis is illustrated in the attached vi : the arrow was pasted as a decoration, and also used to replace the slide cursor. Changing the control size do not affect the decoration, but changes the cursor.
2/ What do you mean by adding new parts to a control. We have just seen that it was possible to modify a control. Now, if you want to include additionnal functionnality, that's another story. You can replace parts of the control, and this can give interesting results.  You can edit a slide control, and replace the numeric indicator by another control, including a numeric indicator, that you can replace with etc...
But there, it still the same info displayed under different forms. If you want to have several independant functions on the same control, such as a string display and a boolean and a numeric indicator, then that's a job for a cluster...

  • Slider control bug?

    Hi,
When I try to open a custom control I saved I get an error message:
"Unable to display the front panel of the VI. The VI's front panel may have been removed"
    Here's what I did:
    -Created a new control
-Put a classic simple slide down
    -Changed to indicator
    -Show digital display
-Right click and select 'replace' on the digital display and replace it with the classsic style simple numeric
    -Change the background/foreground colours
    -Save the control
I've tried this a few times and get the same result each time. It seems to be replacing the digital display which causes this behaviour. Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Steve.

Mine changed to an indicator, at least it made the proper appearance changes from control to indicator.
However... as I was trying a few other things, I placed a modern slide control and began to change the numeric indicator to the classic simple style, and received a fatal error as shown in the attached gif.

  • Can you manually advance a Captivate slide presentation with a remote control and a projector.

I have published a large volument of PowerPoint presentations with Captivate 5.0 and intend to distribute the presentations to live instructors as a means to control content delivered live by instructors to the students.  The files are aggregrated into groups of lessons and published to PDF with a Table of Contents.
We need to avoid manually advancing the show from the laptop.
Having difficulty determining how to use remote control via laptop and projector to advance the next slide or presentation. Can't get it to work. Was able to do so previously with PowerPoint slides converted to PDF shows. Remotes/Laser pointers worked fine. But now that I have processed the shows through Captivate 5.0 can seem to find a remote that will work with the new PDF or SWF with our systems.
We use a laptop and projection system, so need to be able to advance the show to the next "slide" manually and are trying to figure out how to do it with a remote control.
Has anyone else experienced this challenge and did you find a solution?.

    Hi Carey,
if you can apply the letter "A" for "next" to your remote control?
Then you could add a shortcut to your buttons in the captivate file.
    In deapth:
Go to a PPT importet slide (using the "click mouse" option to continue".
Click somewhere in the screen (clickbox_xx will be selected).
Properties - Action - Shortcut. Click it and press "A".
    Click somewhere on the stage.
Now when you press your next button on the remote, Captivate will receive an "A" and continue to the next slide.
    Hope this helps

    Hi Goofy Goat,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you have done some great troubleshooting for your iPod nano that is not responding. In this situation, if resetting it did not resolve, I would suggest restoring the iPod back to its factory settings and then sync your content back onto it from iTunes. Please use the following article as a resource for restoring.

  • HT2188 6.0 (10a403) Loss of Volume control and Volume slider in music

I have 2 iphone 4 and upgraded them to os6, one phone updated correctly and is working fine with no problems. The other phone is giving me nothing but problems. I intermitently lose use of my volume controls and when this happens the volume slider dissappears from the music app. even closing the phone and opening it does not bring these controls back but then all of a sudden they will appear only to dissappear as quickly, nothing I do seems to bring them back as I can leave the phone and when I go back to it they will be there. I also lose the click sounds from the keyboard. I have tried everything I can think of by erasing all content and settings 3 times, hard resetting many times. Any idea's?

I still have a 3GS and had NO intention of updating to iOS6 for the fear of the maps issue (because I use maps so frequently) and that it would **** near render my phone usless. But then I was unable to manage my Voice memos (also something I use frequently) so I sucked it up and upgraded yesterday.
And now the only volume control that I have seems to be in my iTunes. Can barely hear a phone call or voicemail and cannot adjust the volume at all, not even with a headset on. Fix this, Apple. Fix it NOW!!!

  • Intensive slider control use may lead to LabVIEW hang and system instability when coupled to event loop "Value Change"

Occasionally, over the past year or two, I have noticed on different machines and versions of LabVIEW (8.0 and 8.5) that intensive operation of the LabVIEW slider control (holding down the left mouse button and shaking the mouse quickly back and forth to move the slider for several seconds) may cause LabVIEW to hang with high CPU usage (50% on my current test machine, which has a Pentium IV "hyperthreaded" processor, so 50% is the max that a single thread can take up). In some instances, after the LabVIEW process is forced to quit, the system itself becomes unstable (more high CPU usage) or hangs, up to and including the need for a hard restart. I have seen this behavior both when handling slider change events the "old fashioned" way with a while loop and a case structure; and also when using a while loop with an event structure handling the "Value Change" event for the slider.
Attached is an .rtf file dump of the front panel and block diagram of a simple test VI that replicates this problem in my hands (using an event structure). The loop count runs to at least several hundred iterations before the crash occurs.
At least for the "old fashioned" loop handling method, adding a forced wait of a few dozen msec per loop didn't seem to be a workaround. I haven't tried this idea with the event structure, but don't expect joy to follow. The possibility of a system hang discourages aggressive experimentation.
Is this a known issue? Can anyone else replicate it (carefully)? In any case, I'd welcome other suggestions for workarounds.
    Thanks,
    Darin Nelson

    Hang Slider.rtf ‏683 KB

Thanks for all your responses, and especially to those who are waggling their mice around trying to reproduce this. I'll respond to (most aspects of) the last several posts in one message.
    LabViewGuruWannabe:
I'll see if I can get the original code to post in a separate message, I posted the .rtf originally because I thought there might be filtering on forum posts (I'm sort of new here). But I doubt you re-created it wrong.
The "more modern" test hardware was an Intel Core2 , 2.4 GHz, 2Gb RAM, on an Intel 965 family motherboard. As I said, it took me two tries to trigger the error on this hardware; in the case where it triggered, I was at almost 12000 iterations before things went south. 10000 iterations, therefore, might not be enough--or you might never get it, for all I know. My Pentium 4 Hyperthreaded machine (3.2 GHz, 2 Gb RAM) triggers the hang much more easily (always within 2500 iterations, usually within 1000), so there seems to be some hardware dependence here. Maybe the workaround is just to use hardware recent enough that no one not under the influence of strange compulsions will accidentally trigger the hang.
    TonP:
After reading your suggestion, I tried something even more radical  -- getting rid of the handling code altogether. I took the slider node out of the while loop, and removed all code inside the "Slide" case of the event structure.
On my Pentium 4 machine, the hang triggered after 677 iterations.

  • Why does LabVIEW pause while I operate the slide control?

I have a slide control inside a while loop. Something on the screen reacts immediately to the control as I slide it. This used to work, but now everything pauses while the control is being operated except for the control's own digital display. Even an indicator wired directly to the control, and also inside the loop, pauses until the control is let go then suddenly jumps to the control's current value. Both an indicator and a probe wired to the iteration count show the same thing.
When I copied that same control into another VI with only a loop and an indicator, it works fine just as before.
I've checked all the VI setup stuff and I can't see anything in the diagram that would cause this. I a
lso tried deleting all of the control's local variables and attribute nodes to no avail.
I'm using LabVIEW 5.0 in NT Workstation 4.0
Does anyone have any idea what's going on.
    I'd appreciate any help.
    thanks,
    Louis

Do you have a small wait inside of the while loop? I don't have any problem in version 5.1 or 6 when I put one inside. I typically use a delay of about 25 msec.

  • Transparent Fill Slide controls?

I use a Numeric Fill Slide in my program to indicate the value of a particular quantity that I can set in a variety of different ways.  It occured to me that it would be pretty nifty if I could actually set the value by clicking on this indicator as well.
Then it occurred to me that, rather than change the Fill Slide to a control and setting its value using a local variable when necessary, I could just make a separate Fill Slide control, make it transparent, and put it on top of the Fill Slide indicator.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work: I can use the Paintbrush tool to change the color of the empty Fill Slide to whatever I want, but if I set it to transparent, any objects underneath the Fill Slide will still not show through.
Is this behavior by design?  Or is it a bug in LabVIEW 8.5?  Or is there some other way to make the Fill Slide transparent that I am not aware of?

The background is just a decoration. To color it transparent, you need to click the right edge of the slide, just outside the resize area. Another option is to customize the control and make it very small.
Try to take over the world!

  • Uncontrolled expansion of a system slide control

I have two system slide controls (part of a larger cluster) that are getting longer by a few pixels every so often without me touching them on the front panel.  I don't know what this is correlated to (i.e. opening the .vi, running the .vi, etc.) but these slides are now running into the space for other controls and even their own digital displays.  My program does not change the position or sizing of these controls, however I do occasionally write to them through local variables and value references.
After noticing this issue, I tried programmatically keeping them down to size however there is an issue with this.  When the slide controls start to grow, their scales remain in place so there is a bit of a mismatch between the position on the scale and the corresponding label.  When I reduce the size by hand, or in the program, the scale similarly moves thus preserving this mismatch between the slide position and the label position.
The only fix I have found deleting the control and putting in a brand new one.  This is obviously not a tenable solution.  Does anyone have any ideas?  For reference, I'm using LabView 8.5 on the Mac but I had this problem with version 8.2 as well.
    Thanks!

    johnsold / Lynn
The slider control is within a cluster that is indeed a typedef from a custom control, yes.  However, I noticed this behavior in slider controls belonging to clusters that are not deposited from a custom control.  I have never found this expansion to occur in slide controls that were standalone variables.
I have included a .vi. that has the cluster of interest -- it would be difficult to include the cluster as part of the offending program.  I should mention that this slide expansion does not occur when the program is running, or even when the .vi is in memory.  I only notice this when LabView boots up and the .vi is first loaded.  In looking at this cluster now, the slide controls have expanded more than 10px on both ends.  Interestingly, i just noticed that they are getting taller too.  The scale on the bottom cluster is now starting to be clipped by the boundary of the cluster itself.
Any insight would be a great help.

  • Slider control Question

    Hi All
I am trying to find a way to create a slider control that looks like the one used to unlock the iphone, with similar message "slide to unlock"
    thank you for your help

It was suggested elsewhere that I send an email to Sean McCormack about this problem and Sean's response was: "AFAIK you can't make variable calls inside UI elements. It's ... the same for cellIndex, etc. Anything I've tried similarly doesn't work."
So it appears that this particular action is not possible. If anyone has an idea as to how to achieve what I want thru different means that would be most appreciated.
