SLight OT: Duet problem!

Hi everyone,
I know many of you are using the Duet, so I thought I'd try asking here. I've been in contact with Apogee, but they've been unable to come up with something so far...
After doing a full update of my studio mac, bringing it up 10.5.4, and then installing the Duet May'08 update, I've lost all sound from my Duet! The LED meters show activity, but no sound is heard from any output... Also, when toggling the input on the device, the topmost ("over") LED is always illuminated, even without any inputs active/connected and nothing is recorded.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bump. I've been having similar Duet issues as well. I was able to return some functionality to it by replacing the extension and frameworks files installed by the 10.5.3 update with the ones from the Apple Firewire update distributed in the Apogee Duet May 08 update. Still I get random drop outs and digital noise from time to time.
From analyzing the files and getting a second opinion from the developers at my work, it seems to be a software issue with apples firewire drivers. Hopefully one that will be fixed ASAP.

Slight Software Update problem

Hello all,
I’m having a slight problem with Software Update lately. More of an annoyance really. When I periodically check to see if anything is available I usually download whatever is there for later manual installation but when I see something I don’t want, such as today's Remote Desktop Client Update 3.2.2, I’ll click the Update menu and select Ignore Update to prevent getting reminders for it. Lately, however, that option is not working for me because the unwanted updates continue to appear in the list whenever I run Software Update. Is it just me and my system or is anyone else noticing this?

I just put it on the ignore list and reran software update and it did not show up.
I then selected to show ignored updates and the software update reran and showed it.
So, at least for me, the ignore function is working properly.
You might create a new account and see if the problem is associated with your current user or a system issue.

Apogee duet problems with mavericks fixed?

Any person worked out the problems with Mavericks and midi issues??? I have an Apogee Duet for Mac/IOS

Nope. To put it bluntly Apple really screwed this up. The opperating system has created serious headaches for musicians and it doen't look like it's going to be fixed anything time soon.

Apogee Duet problems

Hey there. I have two problems with my Apoge duet. I use it with my MBP and whenever i have the instrument inputs turned up (with or without instruments plugged in) I get a nasty static like sound. Also when using my imac Aluminium 2.66 G it occasionally causes the machine to freeze completely.

This has happened to me. I unplugged the unit, reinstalled the software, restarted my computer, then plugged the unit back in and did a "Reset" (hold down the knobs till all the lights flash). That seemed to do the trick. The apogee seems to develop those weird bugs every few weeks or so.

S440 - Slightly different WIFI problem

I've read the other lengthy thread on the S440 wifi problem and i'm not sure if mine is slightly different as it has nothing to do with hebernation or sleep mode.
Basically, twice in the last week my wifi has dropped out. I've still been connected to the router, and all other devices in the home are connected and working fine, but my S440 cannot connect to the internet and i get the small yellow exclamation mark over my wifi icon.
The first time it happened, it eventually fixed itself the following day via the network centre trouble shooting, and it came up as some sort of IP address issue.
It happened again last night but it wouldn't fix itself this time. Although this morning, I booted up at the office and its working again.
Its definitely something to do with the laptop as both time all other devices have been ok.
Before i start downloading new drivers, i just wanted to check.

I think I've got a slightly unique burn problem...maybe I'm just an idiot?

I'm trying to burn a playlist that I created on a DVD-R disk. I've tried updating drives and I installed a new Intel chip from the Dell website... all to no avail. When I click burn playlist to disk, my disk is ejected, when I click burn disk in the corner, I'm informed curtly that "this is not a blank CD" while my disk is again ejected. These are brand new disks, plastic wrapped and everything, so I know that they're blank. I've also tried with multiple disks, and even different types so I know it's not that either. Here's my CD diagnostics information if it helps:

I understand your wanting to burn a playlist to a blank DVD but is this playlist movies or music? If its a music playlist and your wanting to burn some music to the DVD as a backup, you will have to go into iTunes settings/preferences and set the disc format to "Data CD or DVD".

Slight PHP Sendmail Problem

I have managed to find a send-mail script in PHP in order for

However, I receive the email but I only receive what the user has
selected in the drop down menu, I can change this to any of the

Apogee Duet - problem connecting a synth

Hello, I recently bought a duet since it seemed perfect for my recording needs (I needed to record a stereo synth and a guitar simultaneously plus it is made exclusively for mac) yet after I installed and ran duet, when I plugged my synth (Roland xp-80)
into one of duet's inputs I could only hear one side of my headphone speakers. The roland XP 80 has a stereo output..I'm HOPING that duet's "instrument" inputs aren't mono, because if that is the case then I wasted my money...I read the specs before buying it and it said you could record both guitar and keyboard simultaneously. Now, I also must say I didn't test it like I would have wished cause my cables are old and faulty...but still everything points to my worst worries. So can anyone tell me if Duets' "instument" inputs are mono...if so is there a way I can record both instruments simultaneously..perhaps some adapter that can go into the xlr inputs? thanks a lot.

Slightly Different Networking Problem (error -36)

Hello all,
I had my G5 and windows 200 machine running through a dlink DI604 router just fine - they were both online and I could access my shared folders on the PC no problem. Then, it all stopped - strange, but stuff happens, right? I get this error code:
The Finder cannot complete the operation becuase some data in "smb://PCsipaddress/foldername" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)
Both machines can still connect to the internet.
I tried accessing files on a different drive -same results.
First step was to repair disc permissions - no change.
I can ping both ip addresses, Mac to PC and PC to Mac.
I can't access Mac to PC or PC to Mac.
Windows Sharing is turned enabled on the Mac, and there are shared folders on the PC.
I've got them both on the same workgroup and I'm pretty sure the Mac user permissions on the PC are correct, but I don't even get a chance to verify the username and password when trying to access the PC from the Mac because it goes straight to that error -36

Sorry sorry - there's an NVIDIA firewall set up on default medium settig on the PC, but nothing's changed in it since it was working last.
Yes, there's folders and drives to share - none work.
This might be connected to a firmware update to the router, but I'm sure tha things were working fine after that, (upgraded a week ago, started having problems yesterday).
Another thing that might help:
When trying to access the PC from the mac, I'm making a network connection and entering:
smb://[ipofPC]/foldername
It takes about 3 minutes to come back with an error, and it does the same thing if I enter the wrong ip address as well. This makes me think that it's not a password thing, but some protocol on the Mac?

Slightly different iTunes problem

Hi all, I have read several pages of posts but no one seems to have my exact problem. I plugged my receiver into my Airport base station with a Monster mini to RCA cable. Everything on my iBook indicates things are connected and recognized. My printer and internet work great. When I open iTunes, it gives me the option of using either my computer or my network speakers in the drop box in the bottom right corner. When I click "computer" I hear my music fine. When I click on my network (which I have done both with and without a password), the bar at the top of iTunes says it's connecting to my remote speakers. Then, iTunes begins to play. However, for the life of me I cannot figure out how to actually HEAR the music from my stereo. Am I being stupid? Do I need to set the stereo to some kind of setting that I am not doing? Right now it's just set to FM. I tried AM, DVD, and VHS to no avail. From the Airport manual, I followed the troubleshooting advice and made sure that the volume on my receiver is turned up after I selected and unselected the "disable remote volume control" box. I seem to have run out of troubleshooting ideas. Please help!!!!

what input did you connect the RCA cables to on your reciever? this is the source you need to select on the reciever to be able to hear the music so make sure its selected. you may have inadvertanly plugged the RCA cables into something designated as an "output" whereas you want an "input"
you could also bring your powered pc speakers over to the airport express and plug them into it to make sure that the music is playing. that would narrow down the problem is your connection from the AX to the reciever for sure..
PS - If your stereo reciever has a free optical input, the mini plug to optical (toslink) cable will give you a nicer sound than the RCA cables...

Slightly different WIFI problem I suppose

I've read the problem with wifi for most of the people who updated to 3.1.2.. and I am in the list. I updated the other night and haven't been able to use wifi or bluetooth.
Seems like I read that most people's wifi was greyed out.. Mine is not. I can go to the About section and it shows a wifi address.. and bluetooth. Although when I try to access the router, it doesn't show up at all. Just keeps searching.
The odd thing today was that I went to a friends house and it showed their network for a few seconds.. and I tried connecting.. and then it lost it a couple seconds later and would never show the network again.
I have tried restoring the phone.. resetting.. everything you can think of. I can't get it to work. This is the iPhone 3G 8GB model. Had the 2.2 firmware before I updated. Has anyone had this problem? Wifi address shows up.. but keeps scanning and can't find the network.

When you restored your iPhone with iTunes, did you restore from your iPhone's backup, or as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup?
If no change after resetting network settings on your iPhone and you did the former only, try the latter.
If no change after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, time to give AppleCare a call or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

Slight Eclipse Installation Problem

I feel like such an idiot for having to ask this, but oh well, here it is:
I've downloaded eclipse, and I have extracted the .zip file. Now, when I double click on the eclipse.exe icon, it gives me the following popup box:

I recently have updated my jdk and jre to version 1.4, and I know I had to do something the first time I got java, but I don't remember what that something was. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Slightly different keychain problem - won't let me unlock.

When I first started looking at this, I had a username.keychain with all my passwords in it. Some applications, when trying to access passwords kept insisting I was typing the wrong keychain password. I noticed there was a login.keychain that was empty. No matter what I do, I can't unlock my keychains. I tried making a copy, doing a repair - nothing lets me see or change my passwords.
I tried making a back up copy, deleting, then pulling a copy from my previous back up - and starting keychain - it didn't work either - ignoring my username.keychain. I copied everything back - and same issue.

no go. It still asks me for a password on any access to keychain items - and no password works. There is no chance I've forgotten the password - it just doesn't work. I've got a hundred entries in this file and it's pretty irritating. I've tried the go to root and run fix from there that was posted on another site - no good. I've run disk repair permissions - no change. This isn't tied to host name or any other entity is it? Just user name and password with some kind of encryption on the passwords in the file - how could it be going so wrong so many ways?

USB/Connections noise using Duet

I am using a MacBook Pro, with the apogee Duet to record mostly guitar.
I get a high pitch clicking/squelching noise, mostly audible with higher gain sounds, than clean.
I am using a Dell 24 inch monitor, and 2 KRK monitors, and Logic Pro 8. But this noise happens when using MainStage too.
I tried unplugging everything except the duet, and the noise goes away.
When I plug in 1 usb cable or the monitor cable, the noise starts. With everything plugged in, when I use the wireless mighty mouse, you can hear a squelch when you use the ball.
Obviously interferance of some kind.
The problem is mostly noticeable using higher gain guitar sounds, ie added distortion, but still have the problem with clean sounds, but quieter.
perhaps what i say, suggests this isn't a duet problem, but perhaps you are aware of some clash of comms with the duet and other connections to macbook pro's
Surely this isn't normal, or perhaps I am just not allowed to use any other connections to the mac book pro when i want to record. which is a shame since i then cant use external keyboard or monitor, all purchased to make the recording process easier.
any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

I'm not sure getting a Fireface etc will fix the problem.
I've tried putting an active stereo DI between the MBOX and the Yamaha Monitors - and while it does make the buzz a lot quieter it's still too much of a ''band-aid' solution for my liking. You're not getting rid of the problem at its source.
What that means is as soon as you plug in an earthed device (keyboard/sampler/mixer etc) to your duet, the system will find a new place to earth and start whining again. This means that unless you're going to put DI boxes on every single earthed piece of audio gear you ever hook up to your system, it's not a viable solution.
(PS - even if you DID do this, using DI boxes is going to degrade your sound quality to some degree)
Using the DI Boxes with a ground-lift would be the same as using an isolation transformer between the sound card and monitors - which I was advised, but again - too much of a 'band aid' solution.
Will report back if I have any success finding a solution. Keep us all updated too tho!

Mac Pro 2007 with Nvidia 8800GT screen redraw problems on Mac OS 10.5.2

I seem to be having a slight screen redraw problem. Such as when grabbing the browser window and moving up and down it seems the redraw can't keep up,also seems problematic when watching flash or other video online. It does it in the finder too for windows listings or in icon view there is a fluttering or flashing back and forth, kind of like a white super split second flash when dragging the window box smaller or larger not as bad as when making smaller. Hard to describe but my original Ge-force that I pulled was not having these characteristics. I figure that the drivers need tweaking. In windows I am not getting these results. I have newer boot camp installed as well as the leopard graphics update done so I am trying to see if others are having a slight problem or maybe it is me.
Also I make certain it is not heat related as I monitor that and it does not matter at what temp it is.

Here's another similar experience -- and my solution.
I bought a Quad-core 2.8GHz (8GB RAM) Mac Pro in May and got the "better" Nvidia 8800GT. I thought I was happy, but there were redraw issues after sleeping and a display "roughness" I found annoying. Upgrading to OSX 10.5.4 didn't help.
I found it to be mostly absent on startup, but sleeping the Mac would bring it on. I.e., after sleep, the relatiionship between the 8800GT would be different than before. when I logged out and in again, the problem woud vanish. No what I expect from a "superior" graphics card. I ascribed it to funky drivers from Apple.
The store I bought the Mac from offered to swap for my suggestion of an ATI HD 3870, so I went for it about a week ago.
This card is far smoother than the 8800GT and just as fast in rendering benchmerks for graphics. (I'm not a gamer.) I am a happy camper! There is no stuttering, oddball redraw, or jerkiness as there had been with the 8800. It's perfect! Never mind that it may be 5% slower for gamers, it feels faster for my use.
BUT NOTE: As I now see from reading several forums, I wasn't alone is getting a screaming-Mimi at first! The first 3870 ran at nearly full fan speed at power-up. The speed changed a little with resolution changes on my big Mitsubishi CRT monitor, and actually stopped when I switched to 1080x1920 @ 72Hz! Then the fan would start and quit, start and quit randomly -- convincing me it was defective.
I returned this RED-shrouded unit and the store replaced it, this time with (randomly) a BLUE-shrouded unit. (Slightly lower serial.)
Bottom Line: This replacement 3870 is quiet as a mouse! Fan runs near-silently at startup and after hours of regular use in a 75ºF room. I get the distinct feeling that a bunch of cards with wonky fan controllers were built, and some of us got 'em.
Bad News: The ATI HD 3870 does NOT support multiple refresh rates under Windows XP-SP2 booting the Mac Pro, with or without Boot Camp drivers installed. No version of the ATI drivers fixes this, and ATI does not officially support Boot Camp yet. You can choose a resolution okay, but you're stuck at 60Hz refresh -- a pain for those of us who hate 60Hz flicker. (I like 100Hz refresh.)
