Slow SATA Performance Maxtor 6Y120M0

Hi,
I just got a new Maxtor 6Y120M0 (SATA 120 GB) drive and for some reason
the performance is so low actually the same as my old 80 GB ATA 133 drive!
I copy a 600 MB movie file in 2 Minutes.
I installed the drivers that comes with the board on a floppy disk when I installed
windows, and Installed all Nforce drivers.
What could possibly be wrong?
Thanks a lot guys!

Use
HdTach to get a benchmark of your drives.
I'm using the same drives as you here are mine:-
1)1) Os Drive 160Gb Maxtor Maxtor 6Y160MO
2)Maxtor 6Y120LO 133 120GB  SATA + Abit Serial ATA Adaptor
The Blue Line shows the Benchmark for the same drive running in it's Usual IDE bus. In Sata a slight performance increase is shown.
you don't specify the make of Quote
my old 80 GB ATA 133 drive!
but there is no reason to see any significant increase in throughput.
The speed of the drive can also be affected by the level of fragmentation. After a new OS & Program install, it's best to run a defrag.
Also check that Sata DMA is enabled.

  • Help! Slow SATA Performance (865PE Neo2-FIS2R + Raptor)

As stated in my subject.. the performance of my WD SATA Raptor seems very under par, especially when compared to my Maxtor ATA133 HD.
The Raptor is connected to the Intel SATA connector. (During boot-up, it's listed as UDMA-5???)
I have 2 DVD drives hooked up to IDE1, and a CD drive hooked up to IDE2
My Maxtor is hooked up to the Promise ATA133 (during boot-up, it's listed as UDMA-6!!).
I'm running Bios 1.5, with the Bios set to:
Native, S-ATA Only, Keep P-ATA Enabled (Yes, Both), and SATA as Raid (No).
Promise Controller is set to As SATA (I found it odd that only settings available are Disabled, SATA, or RAID. Since I'm not running a Raid but I AM using the controller for the Maxtor, I set it to SATA)
I have tried to install the Intel Accelerator but it says uncompatible hardware (I'm assuming because I'm not technically running a RAID setup on the chipset... so it just uses the standard XP Professional driver). I have also installed the latest Intel INF.
Benchmarking my system, I'm using the SiSoftware File System benchmark. I don't understand how the Raptor could do so poorly, especially the buffered Read/Write??
    Here are the results  ;(
    WD SATA Raptor
    Overall Score   25646 kB/s
    Buffered Read  97 MB/s

    Random Write   12 MB/s

    Overall Score   27589 kB/s
    Buffered Read  872 MB/s
    Seq. Read        42 MB/s
    Random Read   8 MB/s

The only reason why I'm using the Promise controller is because (from what I can tell from the MSI manual) only the Promise IDE connector supports ATA133, while the Intel IDE connectors only support ATA100.
Intel IDE 1 (Master, Slave) = DVD RW, DVD
    Intel IDE 2 (Master) = CD-RW
Intel SATA (Boot/OS) = WD Raptor
    Promise IDE 3 (Master/Data files) = Maxtor

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] Slow SATA Performance

I have this system set up:
    MSI Neo-2 Platinum Edition
    P4 2.8E
    WD 40GB PATA
    SG 160GB SATA
    512 DDR400
    ASUS 9800 XT 256MB
I have my PATA drive as my primary drive and my SATA drive as a secondary one with 4 partitions. I have only one problem. My SATA drive aint performing as fast as used to be. I could copy 5GB of data from one partition on the SATA drive to another in about 5 minutes but now when I try it it takes 30minutes. Now this is a huge slowdown. I soved the problem once when I swicthed the cable from SATA 1 to SATA 2 but after a few weeks the problem started again. I try switching again but it dosent seem to work time time. I updated all the nessesary drivers etc... but still the laggy performance.
I have this set up in the BIOS
    Legacy Mode
    ATA Configuration - PATA only
    SATA Keep enabled - yes
    PATA channel selection - both
I hope someone can help me indentify and solve the problem.

I've solved the problem after reformatting my drive and reinstalling Windows XP on it. Now the controller drivers are set to UDMA6 and previously it was PIO which I suspect was the cause of he slowdown. I think Windows Update was the root of the problem as it might have installed some defective controller drivers. I have since turned it off.
Hopefully it wont happen again. Anyhow if it does, any way I can change it back to UDMA6?
Also cheers for all the help provided!

  • T520 - 42435gg / Sound stutter and slow Graphic performance with Intel Rapid Storage AHCI Driver

    Hi everybody,
I have serious Problems with my 42435gg
Any time I install the Intel Storage AHCI Driver (I've tried plenty of different versions) which is suggested by System Update I experience a horrible Sound stutter and slow Graphic performance in Windows 7 64-Bit.
The funny thing in this case: If the external e-sata port is connected the problems do not occur. If the port is unused again, the stutter begins immediately.
The only thing I can do is using the Windows internal Storage Driver with which I am not able to use my DVD recorder for example.
The device was sent to lenovo for hardware testing with no result. It was sent back without any repairing.
    Anybody experience on this?
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

  • Slow SATA = distorted audio?

Why are my SATA drives so slow? Is there a way to speed them up? What gives?
I’ve got them connected to the SATA ports on the MOBO. No raid other than the drivers I had to load so the board would see the drives. Standard C, D, E, F (2 partitions per drive) configuration. 2 IDE CD-Roms (pri/sec masters) as G & H.
I tried running a recommended prog called HD Tach & if I’m reading this right, it says my drives are slower that your standard IDE drive.
    http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public/index.php?request=HdTach
I’m getting distorted audio and the only thing I can see out of place is the suspected slow SATA communication. I’m going to start over with only IDE drives to see if I’m right (although I do dread my two 250 GB sata drives becoming paperweights…)
I have loaded the most recent chipset drivers, tweaked my bios to the best of my knowledge, uninstalled & reinstalled my card in each PCI slot and am going nuts here.
Got any knowledge to throw my way?

Since reading up on MaxBlast 4 and Maxtor's Big Drive Enabler I got to thinking my problem may be related to data loss so I’ve decided to start over from scratch. I’ve also been paying extra close attention to detail during this install. I changed boot from Other to SCSI in BIOS. Also I noticed a missing mscoree.dll, replaced it and am looking into possibly loading current .net framework (not sure of importance or preferred method yet). I’m still debating loading SP4 but most likely will (I’m currently holding off laoding any updates). There was some reason for me reverting back to SP3. SP4 did something negative to my previous DAW but I can’t remember what it was (oh well, better remind myself). My system already seems to be running smoother and I got something to install that wouldn’t install before (probably due to the missing mscoree.dll file I’m currently unfamiliar with). I find it strange it never gave me an error before, yet adversely affected my machine. Gotta love beta progs (especially when they are sold to you as a completed prog) :-/ . Luckily I am aware this one IS a beta though. I’ll have to inform the creators of this finding.
I always select the ‘DMA if available’ options on the IDE channels. I just wasn’t sure if you were talking about some other location for changing this. I’m not yet very educated when is comes to SATA and integrated SATA controllers.
As for running Maxtor’s test prog:
-“The PowerMax utility is effective on all ATA (IDE) hard drives with a capacity greater than or equal to 500 MB.” My drives are each SATA 250 GB.
    -and-
-“PowerMax v 4.21 will not detect ATA or SATA hard disks connected to embedded or add in RAID controllers, NVIDIA Force 4, VIA KT 600 and KT800 chipsets. If the hard disk is connected to an unsupported controller, it will have to be moved to an alternate system, or controller for diagnosis.” I have no alternate system or desire to spend more money.
Upon further investigation, the readings on HD Tach are apparently correct and reasonably good. This is not a common activity for me so I have more to learn…
As I said before, SP4 will most likely get loaded soon. I always stay current with DirectX.
I always try to keep my IRQ conflicts under control.
I installed the current VIA HyperionPro Driver Package Version - 5.04A from viaarena.com.
I am even trying something new with my virtual memory, which should have sweet results.
I’ll post more later when I have everything re-installed and witness my results.
Keep the suggestions coming & thanks to all so far.

  • P35 PLATINUM sata performance issue.

    p35 plat
    c2d 6850
    2 x maxtor 200 gig sata 2 drives
    1 seagate 320 gig sata 2 drive
    4 gig 1066 mem
    winxp32 sp 2
Hi all, I'm on my second p35 as my first one died due to a duff mem slot and I think this ones developed a fault to. Up until about 3 weeks ago the board and 3 individual sata 2 drives have performed flawlessly but then while burning a dvd with nero the buffer emptied and the disk failed. I also noticed that winrar extraction of dvdr in .rar format that normally takes 1min 25 secs to unrar to a drive was taking as long as 4 minutes if not more.
The normal sata performance seems to have halved for no apparent reason, hdd tach was reporting problems with 2 drives but these have now disappeared. It seems like there is a problem but I cant pin it down to one specific thing because the system runs fine other than that. No crashes, bosd's or anything else; just really crap hdd drive performance when transferring files and and unraring file between the drives.I'm even seeing cyclic redundancy errors from my hdd when transferring files. I have just tried encoding a dvd image [ on 1 drive to another ] using dvdshrink and where in the past I would see 40,000kbs speed now it crawled along at 19,000.
So is my sata contoller on the board broken/failing and how can I test it to prove it? Thanks in advance people.

The system ran fine for weeks with no probs. Same psu no change [ enermax is not a cheap generic psu plus its a carry over from my old sytem that ran 2 7800 gtx's in sli with the same hdd's]. I find it hard to believe that sustained data transfer between drives would be a psu issue all of a sudden. Burning a dvd to disk would not be an excessive power drain, that was the first time the fault maifested itself. Also that was the only thing happening at the time. Im not a multi tasker, one thing at a time. I do appreciate you guys throwing idea's my way. I'm hedging towards an intermitent hdd problem but as its not all the time its going to be a bugger to pin down as which drive it is. I would love it to be as simple as a dodgey hdd as otherwise how do you recreate a sata controller issue when faulting a mobo

  • Is the slow SATA HD issue still unresolved in latest Bootcamp?

an earlier post by kkapoor indicated lack of support for SATA drives in Win XP, and indicated a fix to a now dead web site. Is the slow SATA still an issue? Will it impair running games in Windows mode( the only use I have for Windows)?

I believe this issue was resolved by the Mac Pro SMC Firmware Update.

Firefox 4 is extremely slow to perform any function on my lap top compared to previous versions. Why? And how do I change this!

Firefox 21 and Firefox 22 running on Windows 7 have been reported to take a long time to "wake up" from sleep. I realize hibernation is different than sleep, but... this is the closest match for your description.
Some users have reported that this problem is resolved in Firefox 23 (currently in beta). Others have had inconsistent luck with minimizing Firefox before letting Windows sleep and other measures.
Please check out this (very long) thread for more information: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/961898 browser freezes after resuming from sleep]
Or jump to the part about Firefox 23: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/961898?page=3#answer-457321
The fact that this just started recently suggests perhaps it is related to another program or update, but I don't think anyone has confirmed the exact interaction that causes the problem.

  • Kapsel Fiori Client (FC): self-built iOS FC shows very slow UI performance

    Hi Experts,
I have used KapselSDK to build our own FC using:
    SMP3.0 KapselSDK SP07_PL00
    Cordova 3.6.3
    Xcode 6.2
    OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite
    Enterprise distribution certificate for deplyment
    .ipa for iPhone4S, 5 (tested)
    ipd also inside Airwatch (tested)
    App config:
      SMP proxy is not used.
    The issue:
We use FC to launch the Fiori Launchpad where there are some Fiori apps. The problem is that after type usr pwd, it took very long time to see the Launchpad UI. Tried the standard FC from Apple Store, and it worked very fast.
Does anyone have any idea? I see some info about the slow UI performance for Android devices which can be solved using crosswalk, but my understanding is that crosswalk is not for iOS.
    Thanks.

Have you tired testing the same URL through Mobile Safari to see if it is slow also?
We have had reports of slowness on iOS and we are researching.  The details are iOS uses HTTP pipelining when the connection is slow. This means iOS bundles several requests (2-3 to our observations) together but the ICM does only response to one of them and ignores the others. After a timeout of about 1 minute (transparent to the FLP) the Safari automatically repeats the ignored requests. It may happen that this happens a second time, but not a third time – then the requests are not repeated anymore.  Seems to happen in Mobile Safari Browser more often than Fiori Client and doesn't happen in Mobile Chrome on same device.

    ### Complete Problem Description ###
A test file is being used to do inserts into a schemaless XML DB. The file is inserted and then links are made to 4
different collection folders under /public. The inserts are pretty slow (about
15 per second and the file is small)but the xquery doesn't even complete when
there are 500 documents to query against.
The same xquery has been tested on a competitors system and it has lightening fast performance there. I know it
should likewise be fast on Oracle, but I haven't been able to figure out what
is going on except that I suspect somehow a cartesian product is the result of
    the query on Oracle.

does loading many classes into jvm slow down performance. It will increase the time it takes for the JVM to load your application.
Our application is CPU boundThe time it takes the JVM to load your application is not likely to be an issue for you then.

  • Jdbc thin driver bulk binding slow insertion performance problem

    Hello All,
We have a third party application reporting slow insertion performance, while I traced the session and found out most of elapsed time for one insert execution is sql*net more data from client, it appears bulk binding is being used here because one execution has 200 rows inserted. I am wondering whether this has something to do with their jdbc thin driver(10.1.0.2 version) and our database version 9205. Do you have any similar experience on this, what other possible directions should I explore?
here is the trace report from 10046 event, I hide table name for privacy reason.
Besides, I tested bulk binding in PL/SQL to insert 200 rows in one execution, no problem at all. Network folks confirm that network should not be an issue as well, ping time from app server to db server is sub milisecond and they are in the same data center.

I have exactly the same problem, I tried to find out what is going on, changed several JDBC Drivers on AIX, but no hope, I also have ran the process on my laptop which produced a better and faster performance.
Therefore I made a special solution ( not practical) by creating flat files and defining the data as an external table, the oracle will read the data in those files as they were data inside a table, this gave me very fast insertion into the database, but still I am looking for an answer for your question here. Using Oracle on AIX machine is a normal business process followed by a lot of companies and there must be a solution for this.
