Slow unmounting NFS [SOLVED]

Hello, i need help, please.
Since i start using nfs4, when i shutdown the machine (NFS client) it takes almost 2 minutes to unmount the nfs.
This is my fstab config:
192.168.3.1:/nfs /nfs nfs rw,intr,bg,hard,rsize=65638,wsize=65536 0 0
192.168.3.1:/nfs2 /nfs2 nfs rw,intr,bg,hard,rsize=65638,wsize=65536 0 0
192.168.3.1:/nfs3 /nfs3 nfs rw,intr,bg,hard,rsize=65638,wsize=65536 0 0
192.168.3.1:/var/cache/pacman/pkg /var/cache/pacman/pkg nfs rw,intr,bg,hard,rsize=65638,wsize=65536 0 0
I already tryed to use nfs4 fs type but it didn't work. It didn't mount the nfs. Something like file not found (from server).
Thanks a lot for the help.

I had the problem when unmount nfs at halt/reboot , it seems to work with "nolock" see ;
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=16201
Running lastes arch/nfs and mounting a openbsd nfs share, ubuntu did not  have any problems with the nfs share !!

  • [SOLVED]Unmounting NFS shares before network is brought down

I'm using networkd and I have enabled the network-wait-online service, so at boot-time my NFS shares are mounted after the network becomes available. That all works perfectly.
However, it doesn't work the other way around i.e. when shutting down. The network is brought down, and then systemd attempts to unmount the shares, which obviously doesn't work.
    Have I missed a step?

  • [Solved] Shutdown - systemd timing out attempting to unmount NFS

I have the following line in /etc/fstab:
    192.168.1.5:/srv/nsf4/main /shares nfs noauto,nofail,x-systemd.automount,_netdev,x-systemd.device-timeout=14,size=32768,wsize=32768 0 0
This works properly in the sense that systemd does not hold up the system when booting, and it does mount the directory upon first access, however the system hangs at shutdown in a manner consistent with systemd shutting down the network before attempting to unmount the drive. Indeed, even when the system is running, I can manually run
    systemctl stop NetworkManager.service
    and a call to
    systemctl status shares.mount
shows that the mount is still active.
I can't attach anything, but here's a pastebin of my shutdown log:
    http://pastebin.com/rTJxZDF5
Also, here's what I get from systemctl show shares.mount:
    http://pastebin.com/a9ZUeX6z
Finally, I will describe the debugging I have done to this point. First, if I manually unmount the share before shutting down, it shuts down immediately. I am using systemd's automount option, however the same thing happens without automount (or fstab for that matter - simply manually mounting an NFS share and shutting down results in the shutdown taking about 2-3 minutes). I also added additional items to the Require= and After= lines for shares.mount, specifically I tried adding network.target, NetworkManager.service, and wpa_supplicant.service. In each case, I did observe that manually running
    systemctl stop NetworkManager.service
(for instance) now did cause the share to be unmounted, however if I shutdown the computer without manually stopping NetworkManager.service, for instance, it would still stall for 2 minutes before timing out.

I have had similar problems, although on my system, I use fstab to mount the NAS to /mnt and then I use bind mounts to mount NAS folders to my home directory.
Without the bind mounts everything worked perfectly. WIth the bind mounts, the system would hang on shutdown/reboot.
Unfortunately, I only experience this problem with NetworkManager. I use Gnome, so would love the network integration, but this issue is a deal breaker for me. Currently I use systemd-networkd with a custom extension to show network connectivity in the Gnome panel. The shutdown process works flawlessly (bind mounts and NAS mounts both mounted and unmounted without issue).
Obviously not an ideal solution, but perhaps try using something other then NetworkManager to see if you still experience issues, if not, it does isolate the issue to being a NetworkManager problem.
I do want to go back to NetworkManager for the integration with my desktop aspect, but for now I am happy with a working system without it.
    Cheers.

  • Intel Wireless-N 7260 Slow Internet Speed - Solved (Win 8.1 64-bit, Wireless N @ 2.4GHz)

Obviously there are numerous factors that can affect speed. But if you have reason to believe it's just your laptop try the configuration below. Worked for me. Good Luck.
    Laptop:
    Lenovo Ideapad Y510P, Windows 8.1 64-bit.
    Internet Connection:
Comcast Xfinity Blast advertised at 50Mbps.
    Network Environment:
Home Wifi, Linksys E1500 Router Wireless N @ 2.4 GHz. Firmware Version: 1.0.06
Apartment Building, ~15 visible other Wifi networks.
Devices with 15 feet of router.
    Problem Symptoms:
Download speeds of 2-3 Mbps. Upload speeds were typically much higher, around 10Mbps as should be expected.
    Control Reference:
    ~50Mbps using ethernet cable.
Older Laptop getting ~45Mbps over Wifi.
    Solution:
From what I gathered, the problem with the card happens on Wireless N 2.4MHz routers.
    Driver version : 17.13.2.2
    File : Wireless_17.13.2_De164.zip
Downloaded from : http://goo.gl/S3HOCL (Intel download page. URL was too long to post)
Installation : Unzip to a folder, Run the DPInst64.exe application - does a 'simple' driver install. No Bloatware / fluff.
Device Settings: I'm listing only the values that I changed along the way.
    Device Manager > Network Adapters > Intel(R) Wireless-N 7260 > Properties > Advanced.
    802.11n Channel Width for 2.4GHz : Auto
Ad Hoc Qos Mode : WMM Disabled
HT Mode : HT Mode (ie ON. You need this for Wireless N. If Disabled you can only connect to Wireless b/g/mixed)
    Roaming Aggressiveness : 1. Lowest
Throughput Booster : Enabled (Not sure if this is necessary. It's an optional feature giving priority over other devices)
    Transmit Power : 3. Medium
U-APSD Support : Disabled (According to numerous posts, this is critical)
    Wireless Router Wireless Settings:
    Network Mode : Wireless-N Only
Channel Width : 20 MHz Only. (My only other option is 'Auto (20 MHz or 40 MHz). On 'Auto...' every device I have really slows).
Channel : Auto (I had this set to '3' since day one to avoid the channels other Routers in my building are using. Defintely noticed improvement but it seems its not necessary with this configuration. Could be due to other networks not being used at the time of testing. I'm keeping an eye on this).
Bluetooth Network Connection (Personal Area Network):
    Disabled
(I have a running bluetooth mouse which is not affected by disabling this)
    Result:
    Testing duration 6 hours, ~ 10 times.
For the settings. most likely there's some that are not necessary. But after working on this for 3 days, I'm not changing anything for the time being.
    Blurb:
I'm posting this to hopefully help others who have this issue. Researching the problem I found numerous lengthy fourm threads filled with frustrated users...one on Intel's support site was 18 pages long with literally months of posts with several users discussing a class action lawsuit...enough said.
I tried pretty much all the posted solutions, lots of different driver versions, device settings, router settings. There's so much misinformation out there it's not funny. Eventually I called Lenovo Tech Support who tried simialr things and momentarily got it a bit better and wanted to say it was fixed. I hung on a kept testing the slow speed soon returned. Then they tried all the usual nonsense and excuses and gave up, passing me off to "Premium Support:" who wanted to charge me to investigate the problem. The "premium" techs were really poor and sounded like a bunch of clueless hacks just trying to get you to pay for the service while simultaneously throwing in gems like "how far is your laptop from the router...that can affect your speed"...anyway, forget that I thought.
When I first got the Lenovo Ideapad Y510P last year I had the same or similar issue. I don't recall how I fixed it then but I got it to ~20-30Mbps. While well below my older laptop's speed it was perfectly adequate. That was last August. Earlier this year there was an update for Intels stuff in a Windows update. I think the problem started again with that although I'm not 100% sure. Certainly I didn't manually install new drivers or change anything on my network set-up.

Intel Wireless-N 7260 works at only 2.4Ghz. Refer the specifications of this wireless card:
    http://www.intel.in/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-briefs/wireless-n-7260-bluetooth-...

  • Slow Safari problem SOLVED

Thanks to Klaus I was able to get my safari back up to warp 5. For the last several days it has been running quite slowly.
A few days ago I tried the solution I saw posted by Mulder that had basically suggested the following
    1. Quit Safari if it's running.
    2. Use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete all the sub-folders within that one.
    4. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete any of these files you have there:
    • Downloads.plist
    • History.plist
    • LastSession.plist
That did zip, zilch, nada as far as speeding things up.
So I tried the solution Klaus offered:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    And WHAMO! Warp Speed again.
Thank you Klaus for your assistance!!

    boileree72 wrote:
For my knowledge what does adding the two DNS numbers do? What do they relate to and why does it solve the problem of slow loading web pages? I never had this problem until the last month or so and progressively got worse.
I just posted this in another thread, so I'll just copy and paste here:
DNS is the "Domain Name System" that directs your web browser to the right address when you type in a domain name, like http://www.apple.com . The DNS system looks up that address, finds that it is located at a server with the address 17.149.160.49 and directs your browser there. Sometimes the DNS provided by ISPs is flaky, and sometimes there are communication problems somewhere between your web browser and the DNS server your ISP provides. Using alternate, known-good DNS servers can solve those problems.
the DNS addresses that Klaus recommended are from a very reliable, free service provided by OpenDNS.
In your case I'd guess that the DNS that your ISP provided started having problems recently and got progressively worse.

  • Slow getResource problem solved by ImageIO.scanForPlugins()

    Hi all,
I have a big swing application starting with java web start. A lot of images are loaded during the frame construction using class.getResource(). This runs well with jdk1.4.2. However, in Java 5.0, each getResource takes 100ms to complete and it sometimes fails. I only get this behaviour with java web start (not as a standalone application).
I noticed the getResource becomes quicker after I call ImageIO.scanForPlugins(). So I moved this line to the top of my constructor and now it executes in 6 sec instead of 85 (even quicker than in 1.4.2) !
Now can someone explain why I get this slow getResource call, and why the scanForPlugin solves my problem ? I suspect this has something to do with loaded classes, but I don't now exactly.
Finally, since this problem is only appearing in 5.0, isn't it a regression bug ?
    Thanks for the clarification,
    Maxime

  • Why is switching over multiple tabs in Firefox so slow? how solve this problem please

My problem is just the slow switching over multiple tabs in Firefox. Each time I go to another tab it takes a while (sluggish), or you can say the ‘click’ on the tab takes time to happen. The rest Firefox is working perfect in speed.

  • Painfully slow "Unmounting file systems" at shutdown

I am using autofs to mount a CIFS share over a network. When I shutdown/reboot, the system hangs with "Unmounting file system" for a very long time (e.g. 2 minutes) before doing so.
My situation requires that the mountpoint might be in use when shutdown is commenced. It looks to me as if umount is waiting for something which is not happening.
    I am using pure-systemd setup.

I have almost the same problem. I got a NFS share in fstab and it also hangs for around 2 minutes on shutdown/reboot.
    fstab
    192.168.0.10:/media/heddson /home/maxim/pogo-heddson nfs rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,noauto,x-systemd.automount,x-systemd.device-timeout=2min 0 0
Don't know exactly how autofs works, but for me I beleve the problem was that my user didn't have the rights to unmount that share. Since root is running fstab, then only root can unmount it. My solution was to shutdown/reboot as root or add users in fstab (which allows every user to unmount it).
Hope some of this can help. I should also point out that sometimes my regular user is able to reboot without it hanging.. So it's possible I missed something.

  • Slow Yosemite, partially solved; nagging spotlight issues

Since I have upgraded to Yosemite, I felt like I was using Windows 95: Services regularly in an unresponsive state, spinning ball all the time with the computer freezing for 5 seconds at a time, Mission Control not showing up, etc.
From this forums, someone suggested that I may have incompatible software, so I looked more closely and started to disable various kernel extensions, etc.
Things got better when I got rid of
    - Pace drivers and updated them
    - CleanMyMac 2
Then I still had some services stuck, especially CoreAudio; another thread suggested that it may be the program 'Hear'.
    - Hear... gone...
The mac worked better; Mission control started working again after I deleted most of my profile data.
But there were still some issues and the computer was just slow.. I had a lot of error in the console with spotlight trying to index files owned by a user that doesn't exist; I removed those files and it was like having a new computer.
But still a slow new computer...
I looked more closely at spotlight's activity and I found that it is indexing a lot of things I really don't want it to index. I am using Logic Pro a lot and the last thing I want is the hard drive to be busy during recording.
I disabled Spotlight to see and, yes! the computer became faster. So I added a lot of folders in the privacy section, in Spotlight settings, but I am finding that it totally ignores some of them.
I do NOT want it to index /Library and /Users/me/Library; I added those, but they are still getting indexed.
    I am thinking about pr

    Bump. Any ideas?

  • Win XP slow boot problem solved

    Hi guys,
Just want to share my discovery re: slow boot.
For Win XP Pro users with 1 HDD:
    1.  Go to Device Manager
    2.  Select IDE Controller
    3.  Select Primary Channel (assuming HDD is connected to IDE1 which according to the MSI manual should be the case)
    4.  Click on the Advance Setting Tab
    5.  On Device 1, Select None for Device Type and click OK
    6.  Wait for a while because it takes some time for the window to close
And that's it !!!  I did tried the bootvis optimization first but only about 5 seconds were taken off from the start up.  I also took out the jumper in my WD HDD and even replaced my IDE cable.  Before my discovery, it took 2 mins to boot my PC.  Now it only takes 30 sec (i.e., from Win XP logo to desktop).
Hope it works for you guys.  Good Luck !!!

  • Slow YouTube problem solved!

Hey folks! This was bugging me for days and I really thought Verizon was throttling YouTube where it was practically unusable. I found a fix after searching around for a bit and it seems the problem is the way the YouTube app "talks" to the nameservers through the router.
I have a Samsung Smart TV with a YouTube app and I was getting the slowest speeds on it while watching YouTube, then I did some searching around and found some people solve the problem by using Google DNS.
I though I had set that in the Verizon Router but it seems devices connected to the Router are using IT as a name server and not Google. Somehow I think a firmware upgrade on the Router is the culprit but not for everything, just the YouTube app. Seems the YouTube app "steams" in segments rather than a progressive download and probably utilized the nameservers on the Router instead of the live internet. I guess it's a bug in the YouTube app software that creates the long waits.
What you'll have to do is set Google DNS on the device or computer your are using. On my Smart TV I set the primary to:
    8.8.8.8
if you can ad a secondary then the addres is:
    8.8.4.4
And that did the trick. You need to set this on all devices that stream video. I tested it with various 1080p videos on YouTube and it works flawlessly! My faith in FIOS is restored More info on Google DNS here:

  • Slow Internet Downloads Solved

Try this for yourself and see if it fixes your problematic slow downloads compared to your Windows machines on the same network.
Windows has had their TCP/IP protocol stack modified for the high speed broadband networks that have grown up well after TCP/IP was originally designed and tuned for. OS X apparently is still using the old settings such as 32K buffers.
Open Up Terminal and type the following commands:
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.sendspace=262144
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.recvspace=262144
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.rfc1323=1
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.udp.recvspace=73728
    sudo sysctl -w kern.ipc.maxsockbuf=2097152
Now close down any internet application you may be running, such as Mail, or any Instant Messenger applications, etc.
The only application we want running is Safari--start Safari if its not already running.
    Go to the following website:
    http://www.dslreports.com
On the left is a menu called Tests+Tools, select this.
Down near the bottom is Speed Tests, select this.
Run the first three tests. I got the following results:
Please note I have 2 bottlenecks in place, #1 I am using Wireless using Airport Extreme built into the Mac mini connecting over radio waves to a Netgear WR614v5 802.11g Router. #2 The Netgear plugs into a cable modem which has a theoretical maximum of 5Mbit/sec service.

    LA, CA USA test:
    4706Kbits/second Down + 356Kbits/second Up [588 KB/second transfer]
Now simply restart your Mac, it will load up with the default settings again so we can test how it performs without any tunings done to it.
    I got the following results:
    UNMODIFIED OS X
    Seattle, WA test:
    3655Kbits/second Down + 357Kbits/second Up
    SF, CA USA test:
    3817Kbits/second Down + 352Kbits/second Up
    LA, CA USA test:
    3449Kbits/second Down + 355Kbits/second Up
dslreports is not a highly accurate scientific tool but it does give real world results that will tell you instantly by looking at the two test situations clearly which network settings your Mac is performing best on.
Great! I'm getting better performance with the modifications, do I have to type it in all the time? -- No!

fix the 2nd line replace the ALERT section with the open triangle bracket < and the last ALERT with the close triangle bracket > **SORRY** had to do this otherwise the forums on this server would make that line invisible and you wouldn't copy it properly...
exit and say yes save the file out to StartupParameters.plist (CONTROL+X)
    Reboot.
If you followed me to the letter it should have worked fine.
You can test each change individually by opening Terminal and typing:
sysctl <what you want to check>
    for example:
    sysctl net.inet.tcp.sendspace

  • Plugin-container.exe makes browsing slow: how 2 solve?

I have reverted to 3.5 because the latest versions of FF include some nonsense called plugin-container. FF was brilliant prior to the plugin-container but now it is noticeably slower.
Are there any early versions of 3.6 without the plugin-container available for download.
Can someone fix the plugin-container nonsense. FF was perfect prior to the plugin-container
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://

I noticed this, too... the problem seems to occur for me when I have tabs open that use flash for video, most notably YouTube. I have to kill fx and re-open to get it to drop. Very annoying. I don't know why there was a need to include something like this, but it doesn't seem well tested.
The command line that launches this process (as a child process of fx), for reference:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\plugin-container.exe" --channel=4452.1336c6a0.231575676 "C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32.dll" 4452 plugin \\.\pipe\gecko-crash-server-pipe.4452
Yes, in that screenshot, plugin-container.exe has used more than 18 hours of cpu time (compared with 18 seconds used by my antivirus). Yes, plugin-container.exe is using as much again and more memory than firefox itself. Granted, I have a lot of tabs open, and firefox has been open for days, but those numbers seem ridiculous to me.

I got the same issue.  Don't know why.  Maybe trafic shaping?  I tested with my t-mobile phones and same videos are fine on phone but not on Fios(with 3 different computers at different times of day).
The video will start but it wont play all the way through.
Also try to change DNS and blocking IP's.  Still have the problem.
Anyone got a answer for that?
    Thank you.
Answer? Switch ISPs. This has been going on for months - it comes in waves. I'm having Comcast (gasp) installed here soon. I'm done with Verizon as a company. Ditching VZW as well.
Also, you should know it's more than just YouTube. It's basically any streaming service that may compete with Verizon's Redbox Instant.
