Small black dot.

I was on my laptop tonight, and i noticed this black dot, and wondered if it was dust on the screen, but when i went to wipe it away, it remained there. it is either soemthign wrond with the screen, or if there is soemthing under the screen. my computer is only 1 week old.... i was wodnering if apple will repair if it is somethign wrogn with it...

It sounds to me like it is a dead pixel - a single point in the screen that is incapable of displaying any colour. Unfortunately it is a fairly common problem with LCD screens, and unless you have a few of them, the chances are that you won't be able to get it replaced.
Some people suggest gently massaging the pixel in question, or the edges of the screen top and bottom and to the sides from it. Personally, I've never seen these techniques bring a dead pixel back to life.
While my PowerBook's screen is fine, my external LCD monitor has a similar problem - a pixel stuck at red. From my experience, you won't notice it after a while - it's just one of those things you have to live with.

I created site in iweb 08 and posted to netfirms... the pages are all loaded up but there is no nav bar, where the nav bar should be is only a small black dot on each page. How do I get the nav bar to load up and show? It was a disaster loading up my site as it changed the case of the letters and at first no pages were seen, so I had to go through and change the letters that were supposed to be cap, back to cap in every file. I don't know if this has something to do with it or not. The tech support doesn't have an answer. Please let me know if you have any ideas and solutions. Thanks bunches!

    Dear Help,
Please disregard my question. I found the answer to why a black dot appeared in the location bar.
    Thank you for your attention.

  • A small, black dot (hazy and transparent) appears on the screen when my 4s camera is in use. It's not on the lens because I've wiped it clean.  The dot moves when the camera moves.  It was working just fine until today.

A small, hazy and transparent dot appears on the screen when my 4s camera is in use.  I know it's not on the lens because I've wiped it clean.  The dot moves when the camera moves.  It just started today. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I have the same exact thing happening. Not a lot of people have this problem. So I'm just going to go to the apple store to see if they can help.

  • Black dot on camera, iPhone 5

After dropping my phone there is a small black dot right in the middle of te camera. I've already had my dad kindly pay £180 to swap it after I smashed it and I wouldn't ever ask again. It's an iPhone 5 by the way.

Well, sounds like you have another hardware failure...not covered by warranty. However, make an appointment at an Apple store, show the genius the dot & then shut up...don't say another word.
    Good luck.

  • Black dots on camera?

There are small black dots all over all of my pictures on my iphone 4. They're very noticeable and I have no idea what it is. I've tried to clean my camera multiple times. The dots showed up two weeks ago, and have gotten much worse.

Restore your device via iTunes. If that doesn't help, take it to your nearest Apple Store. https://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

  • Whats that small balck dot?

Apart from the update today screwing up any publishing ability, no images, no links, just a blank base page for albums, no albums.
    BUT
there is a small black dot top left. Why?
None of the workarounds for the update have helped. Even made a Brand New site with a different domain.sites2 file. Same issue. Images not loading but that little black dot is.
that'll teach me for updating too soon, I guess I just have faith that there are techies who know exactly what they are doing with these software updates.
Im still mad at Numbers being so slow and thinking it need 1.5gigs of my ram to function. besides the update for iWeb didnt fix what I wanted it to. The images keep going a shade darker upon publishing. Whats up with that? Secondary now though, since the images arent actually going anywhere.
I wanted to quit using GoLive and Dreamweaver for simplicity. I feel bad for the consumers that this is targeted towards as so easy a caveman could do it. No, wait, thats something else.

I believe the small black dot top left represents the Navigation Bar that iWeb puts at the top of every web page. The web page coding calls for a javascript file (in a folder called "Scripts") that contains the information for the Nav Bar. If it can't find that javascript file, you get a small black dot placed where the Nav Bar should be.
Of course, the question in why the page can't find that file...

  • Many small black and white dots on LCD

I bought macbook pro 2 months ago, the 2.33 ghz core 2 duo wid 2 gig ram and ATi Radeon X1600 xt gfx card. Recently i noticed small black and white dots cluttered in one place. The rest of the screen has about 7 - 8 independent dots, I feel as if they are increasing day by day. Is there any permanent solution to this. I contacted the apple support and I'm waiting on their decision.

Thanx, but I think this is more of an hardware problem. Since its on the screen, I tried to take a screenshot, but the dots were not on the image. I have searched many times, it seems many people have this same problem, I think its the dead pixels, but this too much.

  • Why there is a small black blinking dot got on FLV video??

I have 11 FLV videos in my captivate file and when i published it  there is a small black blinking dot on all my videos. Does anybody have the same problem? I checked the original videos and the dot is not there.

I don't have experience with FLV doing that, but that sounds similar to what happens when the slide quality is not high enough to support the graphic objects on a slide.
Have you tried increasing the image quality for the slides with video to 'high' or 'optimized?'

  • I just bought a brand new macbook pro with retina one week ago and have used it twice. I noticed that I now have a scratch on the screen a small one yet a scratch. You can't feel it yet you can see a tiny black dot then what appears to be a small scratch.

i Just bought a new macbook pro with retina a week ago and used it twice, now it appears i have a tiny black dot on the screen with a nice tiny scatch. Will apple fix my screen since it is only a week old?

  • Small Black Stripe And Dots On Screen (MacBook Pro 15")

Last year July i bought my first mac, amazed at it's performance graphics etc etc.
But recently a black stripe appeared out of nowhere, also there is randomly black dots
on the screen, whom appear from time time.
I've read a couple of thing like resetting ram, running diagnostics etc without luck.
Can anybody help me? I afraid they are dead pixels, if so i am very disappointed in the quality of
the screen (a thing that i didn't expect)
    Anyone?

Your computer is new enough that they should be able to know it is under warranty whether or not you have the receipt. If you bought it from the on line store, you may have some paperwork in your email.
If you have access to an external display, you might check and see if the graphics problem is also on the external. If not, the problem may be with your display rather than with the chip. But whatever it is, it will be covered by the warranty.
The store may also be able to refer you to a local Apple Authorized Service Provider should you need one.
    Good luck!

  • Small White Dot lower left

I've noticed a small white dot that appears on the screen when CS5 is active. I've changed the background from neutral gray to black and sure enough it's there and only appears when PSCS5 is open. It doesn't matter if I have a photo open or not. I first noticed it when working on a photo and tried to use the clone tool to remove it. It tried cleaning the screen and finally figured out that it is Photoshop that produces the white dot. As soon as I click Finder or any other application the dot disappears. Weird! It appears about 1.5 inches from the left edge of the screen and about 1 inch from the bottom.
Anyone one else see this or is it just me?

It's a bug, we're testing the fix now.

  • There is a black dot in the center of my new slate ipod touch 5g!

Is it just the touch screen since, I know resistive touchscreens have small dots and a huge on the center since that is how the technology works. It doesn't look like a piece of dust because it is circular and slightly larger than the itouches pixels. I'm always conciously focused so this dot can really be a bother. I didn't get apple care but I just bought it recently. Is it possible for me to get the ipod touch replaced? Or at least explain to me what this black dot really is.

I have not heard of theat problem befor.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If defective Apple will replace it at no cost.

  • What causes the black dots on the aluminium of nearly every ipad

Every ipad seems to have some sort of black dot on it, either dust trapped in the aluminium or corrosion?

Hi Gregory, yesterday evening that is exactly what I did after talking to a friend of mine. I removed the screws and removed the bottom from the laptop. I couldn't notice any space problems within the laptop. I cleaned all the edges of the body and the bottom-plate and then I attached the bottom once again back onto the body. It hasn't given the strange pressure tick ever since.
The bottom and the body aren't sealed with any form of rubber, it is purely aluminum on aluminum. If a slight speck of dust gets in there it can start making strange sounds. Especially if the space between the bottom and the body decreases if the body warms up.
My suggestion to Apple is to make a small/tiny rubber on the bottom-plates edges. I heard more unibody users have heard ticks that they couldn't explain, even the sellers of the macbook pro.
I'm still disappointed about the reaction I got from the guys at the apple store. If they would have taken 10 minutes to unscrew the bottom, just like me. They would have had a client that felt he was taken seriously and they would know what was wrong.
    Thanks Gregory for the tip.
    Regards,
    Frank
