Smooth Circles

I am having difficulty drawing a smooth circle with a border with another circle (somewhat smaller circle) layered on top with the same size border. I got a very smooth circle using the rounded rectangle tool and snap to pixels but don't know how to get a border using the rounded rectangle tool.  Any help is appreciated.

Hi
The circle is not smooth as no anti-aliasing is done with the picture drawing VIs. To get it to appear smooth you would need to implement an anti-aliasing algorithm in the picture control. This is not something I have ever seen done. You could download MSChart from Microsoft, it is just a free .NET component and code that you can download. Thoric has done a great example here https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-9946 that you could start with to draw the pie chart for you.

  • Drawing smooth circles in labview

    Hi
I am using the 'Draw Circle by Radius' VI to draw a pie chart inside a picture box. Its all fine, except that the circle edges are not exactly smooth (see the attached pic).
I tried looking for it on the net, but couldn't find anything of much use.
Any ideas on how to make the edges nice and smooth?

  • "Contract edges" gives jagged edges?

I'm on Photoshop CS5. I have an black ellipse shape that I have just rasterized. Then I selected the rasterized circle and went to Select--> Modify --> Contract --> 20 pixels.
Normally, when I do this, I get a smooth circle (in a dotted ants selection). But for some reason, the outputted is rough and jagged around the edges.
    Here's a screenshot of what I mean: http://i.imgur.com/GPiUbw4.png
It looks almost like a polygon that resembles circle.
How can I get that contracted circle to properly have smooth edges?

That's the only way it's ever worked for me.  I suspect you've just not contracted a selection that much very often and haven't noticed it.
You might want to try Transforming your selection.  Under certain special conditions (such as your example) that can work.
Beyond that, perhaps you might want to consider working with vector shapes, which can be resized more accurately and cleanly, such as with a Transform.

  • Rugged lines in Pie chart

    Hi,
When i create pie chart in MS Excel and copy it to illustrator and remove unwanted elements and again export it to QuarkXpress/InDesign in .EPS format, in transparent mode. I get a rugged cirle lines.
When everything is done and the PDF of the file is created, when i close obsever the pie chart in through the Adobe Reader, the pie chart shows rugged circle instead of smooth circle. Is it fine or ?

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for the input. But my report is to show top 3 salaries from all job types.
    below is my query:
select null link, job,sal from (
    select job,sal from (
    select job,sal,
row_number() over(partition by job order by sal desc) rn

  • Save for web and devices, .png (trying to make an icon)

I'm trying to make a 57x57 px .png file for an iPhone icon.  I'm pretty new to Illustrator, but have been watching some videos/tutorials online.  I started with the default Print document, and made my icon that looks ok.  Nothing fancy, just an ellipse, another ellipse inside of it, and some icon inside the two ellipses.  (the two ellipses serve as a ring around my icon).  After creating the ring+icon, I put a colored square behind everything for my background color.  The total size is 382x382.  I created a new Print document to be 57x57.  I copied and pasted everything from the first 382x382 image into the 57x57 file, and shrunk the 382x382 to 57x57.  I then Saved for web and devices, selected PNG 24, no transparency, and I got my image.
When I look at my image at this size, it looks pretty bad.  Like even for the ellipse parts, it looks like it's grainy and that there are jaggies.  When I look at other iPhone icons, they just seem so much more smoother and fluid.  Is there something I'm doing wrong with saving or shrinking that I need to take into account for?  Or are there standard stroke sizes that should be used to get a smooth circle?  Thanks!

The smoothing process is called anti-aliasing. It fills in the border pixels with a shade of gray, giving the illusion of a smooth curved object.
That being said, keep in mind the smaller in size pixels wise, the harder it is to keep the quality.

  • Dear Adobe, seriously: please release me from PAR distortion!

As mentioned in the Subject, help me out getting rid of the distortion to my images whenever PAR is activated when i create images for Video content.
It annoys me to death whenever i have my clients sitting by and i always have to explain why the images look crappy.
In after effects (which causes the same phenomenon) there is a simple change i can make in the preferences text to get rid of it.
So PLEASE, if someone can hear my prayer at Adobe, PLEASE tell me how i can find better sleep for christs sake.
    Thank you.

Like I said, if you design it with square pixels, and then convert that to a widescreen non-square display, OF COURSE it will look wrong! You have to make your design in photoshop with your non-square preview on. The reason you cannot get photoshop to display the way you want it is because you're supposed to use photoshop to edit images, not make pretty displays. Do you really want photoshop to CHANGE the grey values running along the edges of your circle so that it will look smooth on a computer monitor, or would you rather have photoshop display pixels with the RGB value that you specify? The answer is obvious. If your client wants to see a pretty picture, have them look at the final result on a tv set or whatever the end display will be. Photoshop will not (and SHOULD NOT) be fudging with the values of the pixels just so that your client will see a smooth circle on a computer monitor. Photoshop is for editing pixel values, not changing their appearance on-screen from what their RGB values actually are just to make pretty pictures for your client's eyes. There's a reason that when you start a new document with PAR on, you get this message:

  • Odd problem with placing text on a path

I've created a symetrical circle with the elipse tool, and with the eliptical marque tool to eventually place some repeating text around the border of a DVD. I can get the text on the path easily as I've done this before, but the problem I'm having is that the path isn't a smooth circle as it should be, and the alignment of the individual letters in the long string of text is all over the place. In other words, it doesn't smoothly follow the path. some of the characters are rotated at weird angles, and I can't seem to produce a smooth, symetrical cicle on which to place the text. Anyone run into this and know of a solution?

If that happens on the path made from Elliptical Marquee tool selection, try setting the
Make Work Path options to a Tolerance of 2.0 pixels and see if that makes a difference.

  • Brush strokes not smooth, all circles

    I'm running CS2 on a 6 year old computer.
This never happened before, but rather started 2 days ago.
When I pull a brush stroke through my image, the stroke is not smooth.  The stroke looks like it's made up of all circles, and I can see edges as I pull the stroke.
I use my CS2 for coloring my lineart and cartoons.
Could this be an indication of not enough RAM?
    What could it be?

  • Healing Brush "skips", leaves a line of brush-sized circles instead of a smooth line

When I use the healing brush is tends to "skip".  It leaves a line of circles like a stamp would instead of a flowing line like it should leave.  No matter how slow I move the brush it leaves a circle and then as I continue to draw nothing happens until I reach the edge of the first circle, it then drops another circle and it continues that way as long as I draw with it.   The brush tool works fine, leaves a smooth line.  The Spot Healing and Patch Tool work fine but the healing brush will not heal in a smooth stroke.  It skips along a leaves a tail of circles the size of the brush.  I am using a fast computer, i7 processor, 16bg ram and a SSD drive so I do not think speed is an issue.  I upgraded from CS4 where the healing brush worked fine on this computer

If the spacing of a tool's brush is 100% then it will behave as you described.
Reduce the spacing to get a stroke without circles.
Reset Tool as shown by R_Kelly will set the spacing to 25%, but it'll also reset the size and hardness of the brush and reset other options of the tool.

  • How to make a mangled circle smooth-edged again

I've got a circle (filled with a gradient) into which an irregular shape (basically a square which was curved on the edge where it met the circle) was cut. • Creating smooth, small circles

Hi! I'm trying to design some tiny navigational buttons that are round. They keep coming out "jaggedy." What is a good way to smooth them out? Thanks so much.
    Julie

The best way would be to use the ellipse drawing tool in your tool bar if you can't find it that is because another vector drawing tool is selected, hold the box down and several options should appear. Make sure to hold the shift key when you are drawing to constrain the portrions. If you are having the jagged edge after you optimize it that is you file type choice. The best for web is PNG-8 or PNG-24 depending on how many colors and the level of transparency you need.
    hope that helps

  • How can I get back the two button smooth scroll with Logitec optical marble mouse since Adobe Acrobat or FireFox updates on 10/26/2010 made it quit?

Oct 25, 26 or 27 both Adobe Acrobat and Mozilla Firefox alerted me they had updates to install. Since I trust them both I installed them. However, since then my optical marble mouse from Logitech acted strangely different. The cursor did not move as usual. It didn't respond right. I thought it might have needed the dust wiped out, so I did that. It still acted sluggish when I tried to move it, it was as though it was "spinning its wheels" not going anywhere. I went to the Control Panel clicked on Mouse, and proceeded to look at the settings and set them to default. I then tried to use the universal scroll by clicking the two big buttons which showed a circle with cross hair arrows as usual. When the marble was moved forward or backward, the scroll had always been smooth allowing one to read the screen evenly and without holding any button down. Now it was jerky. Is this a problem from the last update? My version of Firefox is 3.6.12
    Thank you

I am happy to see another person is having this jerky scroll situation with the latest update to Firefox on October 27. I did check my I.E browser and '''THAT BROWSER''' still does the nice smooth scroll....let's get 'er fixed Mozilla! I know you can!

  • Smooth transition from Mountain Lion Server to Mavericks Server 3.0!!

After an new OS release that are always complaints about installation and configuration problems. First comers to using any new software tool provide valuable feedback we generally hope will help improve the new product. It's how things have worked since the first 6503 Apple II's and 8086 IBM PC's.
I've been using and upgrading PC's since THOSE DINOSAURS! And I can't remember EVER having an OS upgrade go as smoothly as my recent upgrade from Mountain Lion Server (OS X 10.8.5 w. Server 2.2.2) to Mavericks Server 3.0.
I chose to do a clean Mavericks install on a clean partition created on a 1 TB disk that was upgraded into my trusty MacBook. I used the DiskmakerX app to create a Mavericks installation USB drive. When the screen came up with the option to import users, programs & files (took a pass on email) from the Mountain Lion Server partition, I let it run overnight to transpose everything of value into the clean Mavericks installation.
The next morning the only program that wasn't PERFECTLY installed and configured on Mavericks was Server 2.2.2. I deleted it and bought/installed Server 3.0. After Server 3.0's setup ran that only thing I had to do manually was start Postgres! My domain setting, DNS, all my web applications that were set up on Mountain Lion Server were all GOOD TO GO again on Mavericks Server!
I'm disclosing this here, publicly because it was a BIG PAIN to install and deploy all my websites using Mountain Lion's server app. To say the easy transposition into Server 3.0 was an unexpected and pleasant surprise amounts to massive understatement.
Now I'm going to describe two small anomolies I've noticed in either Mavericks or Server 3.0 that other users might want to be on the lookout for. They're not fatal. But they might be "habringers" suggesting underlying problems in either the new OS or the new Server's internals.
The toolbar icon for TimeMachine doesn't "spin" when it backs up. It's not a big deal. But it's convenient to see the circle around the clock whirling so we know when TIme Machine is backing up.
Mavericks Server isn't reporting newly upgraded apps as available under the Updates Tab of the Server's Software Updates subsystem. It might be inconsequential. But with a new OS version it never hurts to let the developers know about the "little things" that don't apparently work.
Kudos to the Maverick's developers for releasing an OS X version that's THIS CLEAN. And hugs to Apple's management for making it a free download upgrade for developers!!!
Full disclosue: I don't now and never have worked for Apple. but I do own a few shares of Apple stock that we purchased many years ago at $14.00 / share. I'm not a big shareholder. But based on my recent seamless upgrades to Mavericks and iIOS 7, I'm a happy one who's not likely to sell any time soon.
If Apple can do for ALL THEIR HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE PRODUCTS what they seem to have done for OS X and iOS, they've got at least a fighting chance to recover from their losses after their stock peaked at about $700.00 /share.
    Keep up the good work!

  • Red square with circle, grey exclamation point AND iTunes won't sinc new songs?

I have just upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.0.3 and for some reason my music on my phone will not play. Every song comes up with a red square with a red circle around it and simply will not play. Looking on iTunes now - every time I try to play a song a grey exclamation point with a grey circle pops up next to the song and again WILL NOT PLAY!
I've heard that it iTunes might be having trouble finding the source of the song (which its never had trouble doing before) so I deleted one song and tried to replace it back on there only to find that it is now not sincing new songs either! This new song is very light grey in colour and has the spotted circle next to it.
I don't even know where to start fixing these problems.
    Additional Information:
I have my phone set up to Sinc only checked songs and videos.
I drag and drop my songs into the 'On this iPhone' heading rather than sicing the whole thing as I share this computer with my brother.
Am I going to have to downgrade my iOS back to what it was?
I really hope someone out there can help!

[[UPDATE]] SOLVED - I've restarted both my computer and my phone and tried to re-drop in that one song that was coming up light grey. It's now sinced and playing on Itunes and is the ONLY song on my phone. No more exclamation mark or red square.
Looks like I'm going to have to delete all the songs and replace them into my itunes.
    *sigh*
Thank you Apple for this smooth, easy going update. Much appreciated.

I want to motion tween an object along a perfect closed

best way i know is, after making the circle - select a tiny

(breaking the circle) then just motion tween from one end of
    the stroke to the other.
