Smooth loop transition

I've created a flash movie using a 4-layer photoshop file
imported to stage and added stops for 0% and 100% alpha color with
tween motions. It looks great except the transition from the last
layer back to the first. I've tried changing the beginning layer
from starting at 0% to starting at 25% and changing the final tween
to only fade to 25% instead of 0%. It's a lot better but still not
as seamless as the other tweens. Any suggestions or tricks?

Hi,
Why not try adding a gotoAndPlay(2); action to your last
frame.
Or put the action on the frame which corresponds with frame
2.
Just a thought
Thanks
Alan

  • Smooth page transitions?

I've been trying to find out how you make smooth page
    transitions
on top of my currentpage no matter which page I got loaded
    and
no matter what section I go to next.
What I mean is that I wanna use the same animation ON TOP of
    the
current page so that it gets covered while swithing to
    another section
of the website. I dont want help with the actual animation
    but I wanna
know how I apply it easily and correctly to my webpage.
To show you what I mean check these professional web
    templates
(just click on the different sections a few times and you'll
    understand
    what Im talking about:

Wow, those transitions chugged on my machine.
Anyway, there are probably several ways to accomplish the
same effect. Looks like they just chose to run their "transition"
movie clip on top of the other stuff. So, if you clicked on a
button to go to another section, your transition movie clip plays,
covering the other images. When it hits the keyframe that it's
completely covering the images underneath, actionscript tells the
main timeline (or loaded swfs/jpegs) to advance to the next
section. Once there, the movie clip on top is told to continue,
    therefore revealing the new section.

  • Timeline tip: did you know you can smooth multiple transitions at once?

    Yes, you can :-)
    Steps:
    1. In the Timelines panel, control/shift click the transitions you care about.
    2. Click the arrow to the right of the "Smooth Transitions" button to show the Smooth Transition Options dialog. Adjust options in this dialag as you desire.
    3. Click the "Smooth Transitions" button in the Timeline.
All the selected transitions will be smooth according to your options
    Tips:
    - By default, smoothing will not change effects you have manually edited or added. To make the timeline clear out customizations you have made and just create new smooth effects, then check the "overwrite existing effects" option in the Smooth Transition Options dialog
    - The "Fade Out - Move - Fade In" option in the Smooth Transition Options dialog gives you a common transitions design pattern. All objects disappearing from a state will fade out first, followed by any objects that move/resize/rotate, followed by objects that fade in to the new state. An example of where to use this is in a collapsible panel that hides and shows content. You don't want the panel to resize and collapse before its contents have faded out first. This option gives you that effect.

Hi Steve - if you are asking whether it is possible to change the duration of a number of transitions simultaneously as a group, then the answer is 'Yes'. You simply select them all (Command+Click), and in the Transitions Pane adjust the duration and hit 'Update'.
It is not possible to adjust the length of movie clips in that way, although it is of course possible to adjust the duration of a batch of photographs.
    Has that answered your question?

  • How to Make a Smooth Color Transition?

This may be more of a graphic design question than a photo editing question, but it seems like something that could be done in Photoshop Elements.  Please let me know if this is out of the scope of PSE.
I am trying to create a smooth transition of colors say from a dark type of blue towards a lighter blue.  I have inserted a part of an image that shows what I am trying to explain below.  You can see how the darker pink gradually but smoothly turns to a lighter pink.  I have been trying to achieve this with a blue stripe that I am working on, but when I do it, you can see a clear and defined point where the colors start to change, and I don't want that effect.  I want to create this smooth and gradual lightening or darkening (whichever way you want to look at it) of the color without there appearing to be a distinct line where the colors all of the sudden change.  I have tried the fade option with the brush, blending modes and am just not getting anywhere fast.  I am hoping I can learn how to achieve an effect like this, but if it is some kind of real complex graphic design skill, then I don't know.
Any helpful thoughts would be appreciated greatly.

    You mean like this?

  • Smooth video transitions

Hello I am making a slideshow using Premiere Pro CS4.  To burn a quick dvd to see how things look on a tv I am picking dynamic link to encore then just setting title button and end and burning it. When I view the dvd on a hd tv places where I have pictures moving (side to side, zooming in/out) as well as some transitions just are not super smooth. Is there somethiing I might be doing wrong? I would think an $800 program could get this, so I am assuming I am doing something wrong. Is there somewhere I can or should be using a HD setting? The pictures I am using in the program are in jpeg format (if that makes any difference). I just want a super clear and clean looking movie, please help me!
    Martina

You are on the right path. An NTSC (or PAL) calibrated CRT monitor will be SD. The two things that it allows will be perfect calibration/re-calibration of the colors and gamma, plus they show 100% of the feed, and do not "overscan," like most CRT TV's.
Now, HD is a can-o-worms, as there are different flavors of it, and different equipment handles it in a different fashion. Also, the proliferation of various types of display, LCD, LED, Plasma, etc., mean that calibration to any sort of "norm" is almost impossible. You can test it on a handlful of equipment and shoot for the middle, in hopes that your particular client will have the settings on similar gear to match what you adjusted to.
You could adjust for the same model of plasma TV that your client has, but because you live in San Diego and he lives in Leadville, CO, at 10,500', the displays will differ. Will it be enough to matter? Maybe.
I doubt that there will ever be an iron-clad standard with HD. If there is, then next month there will be a breakthrough with technology, and when those sets start selling, all bets are off. It was so easy for so long - use an NTSC calibrated CRT and you were good to go (though the client could have the color all out of whack, but that would be for their line in signal, as well).
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Migrating G5- Intel iMac: smoothing the transition, unusual setup....

I've had a new Intel iMac for literally two months now, to replace my aging revA G5 iMac, and have not yet found the time to get it set up. I'm hoping to get to it this Sunday.
One thing that's been holding me up is the desire to have the transition as smooth as possible and worry that it might not be. This is a production machine (maybe not in the traditional sense, but I run my life on it, so that makes it "production" for me) and I don't like the idea of rocky transitions, particularly in the area of data and app migration.
One of my primary questions, and the primary question of this post, is whether (and if yes, how best) to use Migration Assistant.
So on my current G5 machine, I have the internal HD divided into 2 partitions:
    Partition 1 contains:
    a) the OS (10.4.11);
    b) my admin user account, which I only use for troubleshooting and the occasional admin tasks that are awkward under my standard user or in any event more convenient when running as admin; and
    c) a couple of other infrequently-used user accounts (e.g., a couple of guests that very occasionally use the machine)
    Partition 2 contains:
    a) My primary user account
    b) Some data that I prefer to keep outside my main user account, primarily to make my daily backups more manageable, and which I back up manually.
    1. So, first question is whether Migration Assistant can handle that kind of setup. I seem to remember using it successfully when migrating from my G4 iMac to my G5. My G4 iMac had four partitions (this was in the early days of OS X when some were recommending putting OS 9 on a separate partition). I don't remember what I did but do seem to remember using Migration Assistant for most of it.
    2. Second question: I assume I will have to repartition the HD on the Intel iMac and reinstall OS X from the DVDs if I want more than one partition on my HD. I'll probably do 2 partitions again and leave a bunch of free space (not included in any partition) for other uses later. So my first boot should be directly from the install DVD.
If I do that, can I still use the Migration Assistant? Again, I'm thinking I must have done this when I set up the G5 five years ago. What would my procedure be, if it's not going to be really obvious?
    3. I have all my data backed up to multiple external HDs using Retrospect 6. My alternative would be to restore data from the backups. The main issues with this approach are: (a) it might not be quite as "put it back exactly as it was" as Migration Assistant would do things (although Retrospect is *supposed* to do it); and (b) I don't have Retrospect 8 yet, and there continue to be reports of problems with it (although 8.1 or 8.2 or whatever they are up to now) is supposed to have resolved a number of the very significant problems with the 8.0 release.
So the next question: Should Retrospect 6 run under Rosetta under 10.6? Would you trust it to do so when restoring your data? Would you trust the latest Retrospect 8 to do so? Which would you pick?
    4. Finally: I have read scattered reports of problems with using Migration Assistant to migrate from a PPC to an Intel Mac. Some of them seem to just involve slow performance in web browsers, possibly caused by PPC plugins or other lurking PPC code that I guess would require Rosetta to run, slowing down performance. (I have the tricked-out i7 machine so I'm not that worried about sluggish performance, although it makes sense to ferret out unneeded PPC code of course.) There may have been other problems reported as well but I don't remember what they are at the moment -- I'll have to look some more.
So: Is the Collective Mind aware of problems with MA in migrating PPC -> Intel, and if so, thoughts on preventing/mitigating the issues?
Thanks so very much. I know this is a ton of questions. I'm grateful to you for helping smooth out this transition.

So Disk Utility in 10.6 lets you "hot"-resize partitions?
    That came in with Leopard.
I had considered moving my primary user's home folder to the boot partition, based on advice in this forum (adaptive hot file clustering, etc). But it sounds like in some ways it may be simpler to make the initial setup more or less identical to my current one, and then change it later.
Probably. I haven't tested whether you can restore a second partition to the one you're running from; if not, it would take a couple of extra steps to get the home folders there without screwing up the permissions. And I always try to only make one big change at a time.
Since I have 1 TB to play with on the new machine, and only 250 GB +(edit: 150 GB)+ on the old one, I have plenty of room to create large partitions. My understanding from the links you posted is that I can enlarge a partition as well as shrink it (as long as the enlarged partition doesn't bump into an existing partition, and after backing everything up of course
Mostly. You can expand a partition "down" in the diagram DU shows, but not "up."
I wonder if I can create free space in between partitions in Disk Utility.
Yes, sort of, by making, then deleting a partition. But since you can't move or expand a partition "up," I can't think of a reason to do that. (I understand some other utilities can do that.)
You posted some reasons in this thread about why separate partitions are not recommended (seek times, adaptive hot file clustering), and I understand those. Are there others?
Those are the main ones I'm familiar with. Another (that you probably won't run into for a long time, if ever) is that if you guess wrong, you may either waste a lot of space on the OSX partition, or have too little there, with potentially nasty consequences.
One reason I've persisted in this partitioning scheme has to do with backups and restores, although I may be totally off base in this. I've envisioned some scenario where something on my boot volume gets so badly hosed that an Erase and Install is the best cure. But if my primary user data resides on a separate partition it would seem to make it much easier to get back in business -- I wouldn't have to worry about restoring my primary user data. The other user accounts on the boot volume would of course have to be restored.
There is no +Erase and Install+ anymore. No +Archive and Install,+ either. Just Install. It replaces OSX with a fresh version, without disturbing anything else. It even preserves configuration and settings in /Library, and files installed there by 3rd-party apps. Rather amazing!
Some folks do that, of course (perhaps out of old Windoze habits), but it's rarely required, or does any good on OSX. In some unusual situations, perhaps it would help. A couple of very experienced users here have not done a so-called "clean install" since 10.2!
I assume Setup Assistant will guide me through the steps of hooking up the old machine and booting it. I don't know if it needs to boot in Target Disk Mode for this to work, but I strongly suspect it does.
Yes. If you choose to transfer directly from it, which is probably best. You can also transfer from a clone (and, once you're on SL, a Time Machine backup). All documented in excruciating detail in [Setting up a new Mac from an old one or its backups|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Setup.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Snow Leopard > Installation and Setup+ forum).
Thanks again. I'll post back after the surgery.
    Cool. Fingers crossed here.

  • Smooth Content Transition on Button Click?

    Hello,
I am creating a website with a content box and 4 buttons which activate 4 different pages of content. I would like the content box to resize smaller on one page when activated by a button and resize back to normal when clicked on any other button. I figure I will use a shape tween to resize the box to avoid distortion. So, how do I program each button to transition properly if the page with the smaller box is displayed?
    Thanks

All Tweens are coded pretty much the same, where you specify the starting value of the property of the object and the final value it should reach for that property at the end of the Tween.
example = Tween(instanceName, propertyToChange, easingMethod, startingValue, finalValue, changeDuration, durationBasis (secs or frames))
Since you're not really scaling the area, just reducing the width (I think), you don't have to Tween the scale property, but can tween the width property instead.
So if your clicking a button that's related to a display that's gonna be 960 wide, then that's the final value that you assign.  If it's gonna be the 760 display, then that's the value you assign.
If you did want to go with tweening the scale, and you end up picking the 960 to represent the 100% scale, you want to specify the percent scale for the finalValue (100x760/960 = 79.2%)... so the finalValue would be either 1.0 or 0.792

  • Smooth Loop Point??

I built a 10 second introduction text animation in LiveType & brought it into DVDSP.
I want the main animation to play to the end & then loop back to 6 seconds.
There are glows & movement in the last 4 seconds.
It should work almost seamlessly the way I have it set up but there is a pause at the end of the track, before it loops.
I'm assuming this has something to do with DVDSP.
Is there a way to fix this other than making my looping part much longer so the pause doesn't happen until way later in the video?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    JRM

The pause has nothing to do with DVD SP. The playhead of the DVD player has to physically move from one part of the disc to another. There is no way to avoid this. All DVDs that have a looping menu will have a pause. Now that you know that it will become more apparent to you as you watch DVDs.
The solution is to have your animation play through several times before it loops. Say, have your 10 second animation repeat 6 times and then loop. Most people will not sit on a menu for more than a minute.

  • DVD menu glitch at end of loop

I've just used iDVD '08 to create a project using the iDVD 6.0 theme “Reflection White”. The main menu loop runs a bit less than 30 seconds. In the iDVD app, the transition from the end of the loop to the beginning is seamless, both in the Motion mode, and in the Preview DVD Playback mode.
But after burning an image file and using DVD Player to play it, the menu “hiccups” at the end of the loop. Just enough to be annoying, but I could probably live with it.
So I burned a DVD. I have two DVD players, a LiteON LVW-5005 player/recorder, and an older Go-Video DVP-850 player. On the Go-Video the result mirrors what I saw playing from the image file with DVD Player on my iMac - a momentary hiccup at the main menu loop transition.
However, the LiteON is another story. When I play the DVD on that machine, the menu animation complete freezes at the end of the menu loop. However, the menu selection still works, I can play the movies, and it is fine until it returns to the main menu and hits the end of the loop again. When it freezes, I can also hit the Menu button on the remote to restart the menu loop.
I discovered a slight cosmetic problem in the menu (highlight for a menu selection), so while I was fixing that, I increased the loop time by a couple of seconds (the default loop time was 30 sec, and I had shorted it to about 24 sec to match the background music). When It finishes encoding the new version, I'll burn another DVD and see if it makes any difference.
Anybody have any suggestions or comments?
    Thanks.

Can you also let us know how well this particular media works out for you and those whom you issue copies to? According to Len Goff, TDK isn't much better than Memorex (a brand to be avoided also especially on older macs). I can confirm this with TDK 2x but not with anything rated at a higher speed for this one brand.
I've been a video hobbyist for for many years. In the past several of years, I've given away hundreds of DVDs containing performance videos to the entertainers at a nearby theme park I frequent. I've been getting my TDK printable DVR-Rs on 100-disc spindles at Costco (though recently, I think the Sony brand has replaced them on the shelves out there - don't know who makes those). I can't recall the last time I had a disc write failure, and I don't believe I've ever had anyone complain that the disc I gave them had problems (but I suppose it's possible they were just being polite ).
In the last two years I've been burning most of my DVDs in my MacBook (late 2006), and on an external LaCie D2 Quadra attached to my trusty old iMac G4 800. A few months ago, I replaced that iMac with a new 24” iMac. The DVDs I'm referring to in this thread were burned on the new iMac's internal burner and the LaCie external (attached to the new iMac). So I haven't been trying to burn these DVDs on older Macs.
I delivered 3 of the DVDs in question to a friend this evening (video of her sister's Quinceanera celebration), and described the specific problem I was seeing. I asked her to report back if the family had any trouble viewing them. So we'll see.
As soon as I can, I'm also going to get some of the brands recommended in this thread and see if they make a difference.
    Thanks.

  • DVDSP QT loop in menu drop zone button has glitch at end of loop

I've tried reading all the other posts but none seem to exactly address my issue:
I have a simple QT that loops in one of my menu buttons, and the end jump is set to start at chapter 1, but each time it gets to the end, there's a split second of a "glitch" where the entire menu "shutters" if you will... you can't see it in simulate-it only happens on the final burned DVD test. It's not a smooth loop! and it makes the other buttons on the menu twitch... any clues?

Hi Yvonne - it is completely normal for there to be a pause or stutter of some kind as the menu loops, but it shouldn't be a jarring change. The reason it happens is because the laser playhead has to physically relocate itself back to the start of the material, refocus and begin playback again - it takes a little time, and different players do this more smoothly that others. The best thing to do if it is happening too frequently is to extend your footage for over a minute or two and hope that not too many people watch your menu for that long.
You could also try fading out at the end before the loop, but to be honest I've never had much luck with that. The best approach is simply to minimise the number of times the loop takes place, by extending the menu time (and the footage that goes in it of course).

  • How to you do page transitions in adobe muse

On the page linked to below which is one of the tutorial website the food page has some transitions that make switing between the various links on the menu look nice and smooth through transitions.
    http://www.katiescafe.com/Food.html
I am working on a portfolio website and I would like to get that same result.
However beyond just that i would like to have slide transitions between the main pages.
Similair to the effects illustrated on this page
    http://jquerymobile.com/demos/1.0/docs/pages/page-transitions.html
If people have any help on how to make this happen i would love it.
Once again I want to do this for a desktop site.

There isn't a specific way to do full page transitions within Adobe Muse. You'll need to use outside pluggins and I'm not so cure about that...
However, the menu transition will be easy using Muse widgets!
I used the Featured News widget:
Click the blue arrow outside the widget box:
These are the settings I used for a vertical transition effect. There are others to choose from such as: horizontal and fading
Here is the finished, live menu:

  • Looping photo slide show

I've created a series of images that fade in and out. When i run the movie the transition from the last picture which fades out to the first image is not smooth. it transitions from a faded out image to a 100% opacity image. how can i smooth this transition?

What is not smooth about the transition from faded out to 100% opacity?  Is this a timeline-based animation where you have timeline tweens for the fading images?  How does the first image transition in when it first starts (visually)? How does the first image transition to the second image (visually)?  How should the last image transition to the first image (visually)?

I'm using Elements 6.0 and am applying a sppotlight effect to a TIFF (from RAW) portrait.  I am extemely pleased with the results - except - on closer review there are now definite color "rows" insteat of a smooth color transition on the subject's forehead.  The color rows also show up when the p[hoto is printed.  These rows are not present on the original photo.  I am somewhat a beginner with Elements, maybe I am missing something.  Any thoughts?

Yes, I had adjusted color and other edits before applying the spotlight effect.  I tested your answer by applying the effect to the original unedited image (RAW comverted to TIF) and the the unwanted color graduation was no longer apparent.  I invested many frustrating hours trying to figure this out.  Thanks so much.  brf57

  • Gradients not smooth after Published?

When working with my web site in iWeb design, my gradients are nice and smooth color transitions, but when I publish my site, the gradients have obvious color change transitions, more like bars than a gradient.
Why is there such a big difference in what I see in iWeb vs. what I see in a browser (after my site is published)? Doesn't seem to make any difference with Browser I use either (IE7, IE8, Safari, Firefox), so obviously it's some type of compression done on Apple's MobileMe servers.
I've also done a gradient as a picture (photoshop) and it comes out well after I publish, but gradients in iWeb shapes come out terrible after they're published.
Anyone know what's going on and if there is anyway to minimize without restoring to making Photoshop gradients and importing as pictures into iWeb?
    Thanks, Rob.

Did you discover any solutions to this? I'm having the same thing...smooth on timeline, rough exported and viewed in QT, then smooth after export and render to m4v for iPhone viewing where it looks back to normal...
