SMP OData Offline support

Hello friends,
I am using SUP 2.2 to develop native mobile application. Now, we are planned to go with SMP. Does SMP support offline capabilites ?
Thanks,
Dinesh

Hello Dinesh,
There is support for MBOs in SMP3, only that this approach is not recommended by SAP, you have to install a mbo runtime server in SMP3
You have offline support for:
Syclo Agentry
MBOs (Not Recommended)
OData SDK, here SMP APIs SDK only caches your OData requests. You have to manage the database handling/security in each platform project yourself
Kapsel (Cordova Plugins), does not provide offline capabilities, you have to use some cordova plugins to manage offline OData handling/security for each platform
Rest SDK, does not provide any sdk, only http api calls, but it can be integrated with a custom offline development made by yourself

Daniel

  • SMP Kapsel application support

    Hi,
    We are trying to develop a mobile solution. using SMP + kapsel plugin + Hybrid
    in Hybrid we find the support for
    SAPUI5, JQuery, Sentcha touch ,...
    we are looking for offline application which supports mobile and desktop.
    will Kapsel supports desktop based application ?
    will SAPUI5 provides offline support ?
    will SAPUI5 provides supports for Windows phone ?
    What is the SAP recommended way for development approach?
    Thanks,
    Boopalan M

    Boopalan M
    will Kapsel supports desktop based application ? >> NO, as kapsel plugins are cordova based and can be used only for hybrid apps development not WEB based.
    will SAPUI5 provides offline support ? > yes, very much
    will SAPUI5 provides supports for Windows phone ? >>Windows Phone is supported as of platform version 8.1
    What is the SAP recommended way for development approach?>>
    There are Kapsel plugins for Offline functionality as well and these plugins are supported for Windows phone also. If you want to develop an hybrid app using SMP+Kapsel plugin+ SAP UI5 then you shouldn't hesitate using SAP Web IDe which is a browser based IDE to develop SAPUI5 based apps.It lets you design, build and deploy Fiori like apps based on SAPUI5. With the release of the Web IDE Hybrid App Toolkit Add-on, Web IDE can now be integrated with a local Cordova development environment, and thus supports development of hybrid applications based on Cordova framework!
    Hybrid Application Development with SAP Web IDE
    add a Cordova plugin to your SAPUI5 project

  • SMP 3.0 support for Windows Mobile 8

    Hi All,
         Since KAPSEL is not directly supporting Windows Mobile 8, can use the below defined development paradigam?
    SMP 3.0 ==> OData based application ==> Cordova hybrid application ==> windows mobile 8 with native features access
    Also Does SMP3.0 supports notification for Windows mobile 8?
    Thanks
    -Arun

    Support for Windows Phone is being worked on for Kapsel.
    I have not myself done tried using this cordova push plugin on Windows Phone but it might be worth having a look at.

  • SMP Official HTML5 Support

    As of the final SMP 1.6 release, will HTML5 video be officially supported by SMP?
    I have seen the following page on the SMP wiki on SourceForge.com:
    Exploratory HTML5 Video Support
    https://sourceforge.net/adobe/smp/wiki/Exploratory HTML5 Video Support/
    I also remember Andrian Cucu going through the exploratory HTML5 fallback in SMP 1.5 in his OSMF user group presentation in November 2010 (link to the on-demand meeting recording toward the top of the following page:
    http://osmf.groups.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=post.display&postid=32212 )
    Thanks,

    Just writing here to confirm what seems obvious ...
    As of the final SMP 1.6 release, is HTML5 video now officially supported as a "first class" runtime by SMP?
    "Yes" is what the following blog post regarding the SMP 1.6 release seems to imply:
    Announcing OSMF and Strobe Media Playback 1.6
    http://blogs.adobe.com/osmf/2011/09/announcing-osmf-and-strobe-media-playback-1-6.html
    The blog post above having included a link to the following SMP wiki page:
    HTML5 & JavaScript support for SMP
    http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/osmf.adobe/index.php?title=HTML5_%26_JavaScript_supp ort_for_SMP
    I am seeking to confirm that HTML5 playback is a "first class" runtime for SMP given Adobe's commit to mobile runtimes for SMP, and the following recent Adobe announcement:
    Flash to Focus on PC Browsing and Mobile Apps; Adobe to More Aggressively Contribute to HTML5
    http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2011/11/flash-focus.html
    EXCERPT:
    Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer continue to develop Flash Player in the browser to work with new mobile device configurations (chipset, browser, OS version, etc.) following the upcoming release of Flash Player 11.1 for Android and BlackBerry PlayBook.
    These changes will allow us to increase investment in HTML5 and innovate with Flash where it can have most impact for the industry, including advanced gaming and premium video. ...
    Thank you again to all on the SMP team for the great player code base that you provide all who are delivering video to web and mobile devices.

  • Online storage fs but with offline support?

    Hi Guys,
    I need to install something on our company laptops which means that everything they write in particular folders are sync to cloud storage (preferrably S3, so we can use it with our other infrastructure), but it also needs to be locally available to them, so when they are on an aeroplane or anywhere without internet connectivity, they can access their files.
    Something like Dropbox would be perfect, except I would really rather store the files on S3 (it's waaaay cheaper cos we have so many people using this a LOT).
    Does anyone know about something that would work? I've had a look at things like s3fs, but it doesn't look like they support offline as well as Dropbox does?
    BTW, I really need a solution for M$ Windows as well as Linux, as some people *apparently, need*  to use Winblows?!
    Thanks,
    Tom

    If you want to roll your own solution you could take a look at duplicity, rsyncrypto and unison. Don't know if they have windows ports though. There are also Dropbox-like services such as SpiderOak and Bingodisk. Also think about  how to organize backups.

  • NAS / Cloud solution that allows offline support for most commonly used files.

    Hi All,
    I bought a Macbook Air because I love to travel light.  Sadly because of the lack of disk space I struggle to store everything. I live by the 80/20 rule and recognise that I use 20% of the files 80% of the time.
    I would like to store all my files (music, photos, etc.) in the cloud or on NAS. I would then like Air to automatically store a subset of files stored locally based on  limits I set (favourites, certain photos albums, playlists, and most commonly used files) aka the 20% of files I use 80% of the time.  I would then like it so that if I was connected to the internet, I could access any file (without having to use some alternative application / website to access them).
    Does anyone know of a way to do this?

  • SMP 3.x MBO Took Kit support

    Dear Friends ,
    I have some basic doubts in SMP 3.x .. please help me in better understanding of MBO approach in SMP3.x .
    Q1. I have a project (MBO based, offline support), developed in SUP2.2 SP05 , now we are planning to migrate/upgrade to SMP3.x , If I upgrade my mobile SDK and Server to 3.x, can i add new changes / new MBOs/ new functionality to my existing MBO project if needed ?
    Q2. Is MBO tool kit is like SDK/ just for run-time environment ?
    Best,
    Dasaradhi Bendi

    Hi Dasaradhi,
    Jitendra already mentioned most of the facts. SMP3 is mainly focusing on OData (pure REST is also possible). SMP3 in its basic installation does not include the MBO Runtime anymore, but you can install it as a separate stack (choose zip file during SMP3 installation). MBO apps which run on SUP 2.2 or SMP 2.3 should run (without modification) also on SMP3 MBO Runtime. Technically, the SMP3 MBO Runtime is (almost) the same than SMP 2.3 with latest service pack. There are no new MBO features on SMP3 MBO Runtime in comparison to SMP 2.3, only the SAP maintenance period is a little bit longer.
    For new projects I do not recommend using the MBO approach when developing apps. For older or already existing apps it is mostly recommend to not migrate them to "new" SMP3, because of work effort, for migration scenarios check this blog entry:
    http://scn.sap.com/people/marvin.hoffmann/blog/2013/11/25/supsmp-2x-vs-smp-30--migration-effort
    If you want to develop a new app which needs real offline support (Offline Caching is supported now already) I suggest you to wait for the next SMP3 service pack which will come soon...
    Regards

  • Offline with SMP 3.0

    Is it possible to develop a custom application which supports strong offline with SMP 3.0. We came across SMP OData SDK and Syclo Agentry for Offline apps and would like expert opinions to compare these . How different are these offerings and limitations of each for Custom offline apps with Push features enabled?
    Tags edited by: Michael Appleby

    Regarding your question:
    Yes it is possible todo what you are requesting:
    1. Defining requests are configured on the server, but specified on the client. Therefore; on the client, the app should have a defining request with name “Customers”.
    There is a refresh method which takes a list of defining requests names (refreshWithRefreshSubset on iOS). In Android, it is called refresh.  So you need  to use that function and pass in “Customers”.
    2. You can’t refresh only the first 20, we don’t allow that.  However, If you need to refresh a limited number of entities from a particular set, you need to split it up into two defining requests.  For
    example, if Customers in the Canada is a higher priority what you can do is have
    two defining requests:
    ~/Customers?$filter=Country eq ‘Canada’
    ~/Customers?$filter=Country ne ‘Canada’
    Thx

  • Offline Data Chaching Problem in SMP 3.0 Android Native

      Hi All,                    I am working on Offline features of SMP 3.0 Android, Saving data in Cache and syncing with backend when network available. Once I close all activities and login in online mode the Cache getting cleared and no data available in the cache.I am using SP03.             Is there any issue with Libraries or is it the nature of libraries?? Please suggest me any alternative to work on this. Need suggestions on next versions for complete offline features.

    The SMP Odata SDK provides the capability for client applications to cache the data on device when the mobile device is out of network and process it later when it is within the range of network. You need to use Cache APIs to do it. Make sure you added cache related libraries are included in the project (ex.cache,persistence,libdatabase_sqlcipher.so, libsqlcipher_android.so,guava,libstlport_shared.so).
    In order to parse and build Odata entries Service document and metadata document are required. So on first registration of user with SMP server retrieve these documents and store it locally by leveraging Odata SDK Cache library.
    Sample code to retrieve the service document from cache:
    IODataServiceDocument serviceDocument = null;
    try {
    //Getting Service Document from the cache
    serviceDocument =
    (IODataServiceDocument)mApplication.getCache().readDocument(
    DocumentType.ServiceDocument,
    FlightModelConstants.FLIGHT_MODEL_SERVICE_DOCUMENT);
    } catch (CacheException e) {
    Log.v(TAG, e.getLocalizedMessage());
    //Checking if Service Document was not found in cache,
    if (serviceDocument == null) {
    mProgress =
    ProgressDialog.show(this,
    (CharSequence) "",
    (CharSequence)
    getString(R.string.serviceDocumentProgress),
    true);
    mRequestTag = REQUEST_SERVICE_DOCUMENT;
    //Preparing request to retrieve Service Document from the server
    IRequest request =
    RequestBuilder.getInstance().buildServiceDocumentRequest(this,
    REQUEST_SERVICE_DOCUMENT);
    //Sending the request
    mApplication.getRequestManager().makeRequest(request);
    } else {
    Toast.makeText(this, R.string.msgServiceDocumentCache,
    Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
    //Service Document was in the cache, now we are going to retrieve the
    Schema
    this.getServiceSchema();
    Code to be added in onSuccess callback method to store the document:
    IODataServiceDocument serviceDocument = parser
    .parseODataServiceDocument(responseString);
    mApplication.getCache().storeDocument(serviceDocument,
    DocumentType.ServiceDocument,
    FlightModelConstants.FLIGHT_MODEL_SERVICE_DOCUMENT);
    Code above is for storing service document; to store Metadata document above code is repeated once.
    The above code shows how to store and retrieve service document and metadata document. Odata SDK also allows storing of Odata entries in cache and offline operation.

  • SMP 3.0 Windows Phone support?

    Hello All,
    SMP 3.0 supports window?
    If so, can you provide any links for developing a Native application as well as Kapsel application.
    Thanks,
    Aditya

    Depends what you want to do with SMP. In case of MBOs, you are limited to what SMP 2 supports.
    In case of "real" SMP 3 apps, that is oData and Kapsel -> currently there is no support. Support for WP8 SDK should come later this year. It looks like it won't be included in the official GA launch of SMP 3, but sometime around d-code Las Vegas it should be available.
    Besides that, Cordova supports WP8, and you can use OpenUI5 as the Javascript library. WIth that, you can easily develop apps for WP8 that use SMP 3 with oData. It's just that you`ll have to use Cordova and not Kapsel.

  • Server and client version for configuring/developing offline kapsel apps

    Hi all.
    I am planning to develop an offline Kapsel app.
    I have two questions.
    Q1.I have installed SP05 version for SMP server and SP06 version as SMP client. Is this configuration sufficient to begin with?
    Q2. Is a delta token enabled SAP ABAP service mandatory for developing an offline app?
    Need your help on this.
    Thanks.

    Hi Daniel Van Leeuwen ,Jitendra Kansal
    I am using SAP Netweaver Gateway services instead of Integration Gateway.
    I am now able to read the data when online, but get an error when I try to open the Offline store.
    Does this have to do anything with the Netweaver Gateway?
    The server log is as below.

  • Getting the runaround from support.

    On the 24th I called Verizon to set up a new FiOS plan at a new apartment. After getting a plan worked out and getting an install date of the 8th this month the representitive I spoke to said I could call back and attempt to move the install date up. I contacted them again on the 22nd and the representative I spoke to said that there was an error in the order and that the install date wasn't actually going to happen so you re put the order through and said there would be technicians in my area on the 27th, 2nd, and 10th and that he could talk to whoever was in charge of he technicians and put through to have a earlier install date. the phone disconnected and he did not call me back like he said he would. I called him back in the representative I spoke to could not even pull up the ticket because it was in offline support she said that she would get back to me within 48 hours with a answer. I tried calling again on the 29th and got the runaround from another representative saying she could not even open the ticket since it was in a different support group, and basically told me I had to wait it out until they contact me. I tried calling again this afternoon and had another representative say the same thing. I don't know what to do, I am getting the runaround when I need the internet this week for school and I have tried to get a answer on what the actual issue is or even when I'm going to get an actual install date. The guy trying t get me a earlier day said the order was behaving strange but this is unacceptable .

    Hi ph4132,
    Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum and look at the top of the middle column where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
    Under "My Support Cases" you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis, as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.

  • Offline Data Transaction Semantics and Attachments

    I'm researching migrating an existing web and mobile application to Azure. Currently, we're using a NoSQL solution that syncs to SQLite on the client and maps local documents to model subclasses similar to Core Data in iOS. Offline support is a key differentiation
    in our market, so I'm focused on the detailed mechanics of sync.
    One of our current pain points is that documents synced on both on the server and client do not arrive in a transaction. To use an example, if the iOS client created 10 Projects, each with 5 related Tasks, the first Project might be synced to the server
    and trigger an event to process its related Tasks before the remaining Projects were inserted and the Tasks table even started syncing. This would cause processing to fail as the related Tasks were not yet available in the database. Since it appears that syncing
    rows, some of which had conflicts, can result in only some of the rows being inserted, I'm under the impression server side inserts do not occur in a transaction, even at the scope of a table. Would this be accurate conclusion? If not, what are the transaction
    semantics with offline sync?
    Also, is there a strategy for syncing related binary content offline? For example, in our current system, each document can have n-number of media attachments that are synced as part of a multi-part request. However, it appears we would either need to store
    related media as blobs in a table column or roll our own method of synchronizing related files as rows were pushed and pulled if created on the device while offline.
    Thanks,
    - Scott

    Hi
    Thanks for the update.
    Good to know the different ways to do it.
    Not sure if this fits in workflow forum too. as the question is primarily  around the  data handling and storage of attachments and documents.
    Hence I close this thread in this forum, And created the thread in 'Workflow forum ' to get to know the response.
    New Thread : Webforms - data handling and storage
    Please update your thoughts in the new thread. Appreciate your time and effort.
    Thanks alot.

  • Rant: can't get past external 1st level support

    I have been repeatedly told by SAP SMP 1st level support to use SCN for a kernel problem, so I guess next best forum is the local pub to discuss kernel level task handlers...
    Perhaps you have also noticed that sometimes you cannot terminate sessions in SM04? Sometimes when ending a login session with /nex some sessions dont close as expected? Behind these are the function module TH_DELETE_USER which is a wrapper for a kernel function from the task handler family. So I opened a customer message as this is now a problem for me (to ensure that logoff is completed).
    So 1st level support from an external service partner (?) pick up the ticket and for the past month the following game has been going on:
    of course, want to logon to my system... (makes no sense for a kernel function anyway..)
    tell me to upgrade and try again, it might work... (but cannot say why they are feeling lucky today)
    tell me that the FM is not supported (so I should never logoff again...)
    tell me that kernel task handlers is a consulting issue so use SCN...
    So... now I am here and post a link to it in the customer message and would like some help to get past this 1st level external support blockade. Or by some miracle an SCN kernel consultant ninja shows up and explains to me how I should logoff correctly?
    I will post a link to this in the message which I dont see the point in closing, despite 1st level getting worried about their statistics...
    Cheers,
    Julius

    Hi Kristen
    Does SAP support have some way to analyse the free text (maybe HANA comes into play) or the incident attributes to find stats on
    Number of times incident sent back to customer
    Delay between returned by customer/sent first time and responded to
    Free text for phrases like "please escalate"; "As mentioned previously; "Stop telling me to apply notes; "I already tried that" - I'm sure a list of common phrases could be supplied by Coffee Corner
    Search where customer provided system connection details and SAP support person sends call back to request system connections
    Analyse the history to see the common themes on the customer support side. Most of what we raise in SCN discussions like these are documented in the Incident.
    My first time raising support messages (now incidents) had my colleagues tell me not to get my hopes up that my issue will get resolved and to expect my incident sent back to me. Even grabbing facts and data of how many calls are sent for "Rework" might help understand what is an issue that can be fixed versus what is the customer perception.
    In short - maybe SAP support needs to look at changes to their metrics on how they identify issues and then use them as their KPIs to improve their services.
    Unrelated, I wish our SCN reputations could be linked to SAP Marketplace incidents - if someone high up in a space raises a questions and also links the SCN discussion in then it might deserve immediate escalation past level 1. This one here might be wishful thinking
    Regards
    Colleen
