Snap Alignment to Motion Quirk?

I add an image to a new project and I add a Motion Path Behaviour for the image to follow a simple curved path but with a sharp turn at the end of the path.
I add "Snap Alignment to Motion" Behaviour and all works perfectly but then I decide to reduce the duration of the motion, so I drag the end points of both Behaviours in the Mini Timeline.
After doing this, when the playhead reaches the end of the behaviours +(both begin and end at the same frame)+ and continues along the timeline, the image flips to face the opposite direction to the original.
I haven't done any keyframing or anything, so why would this happen?

Thanks Mark, but I seem to have sussed it . . .
I now have two separate Motion Paths on the same Timeline with around 30 frames between them where the Object is still.
By accurate keyframing of the Object in Properties and using two separate 'Snap Alignment to Motion' Behaviours +(on one timeline)+ tailored to the exact frames of the corresponding Motion Path, it works well.
+(Obviously, when the Playhead moves past the Behaviour, the Object is controlled by its Properties settings)+.

  • Stacking, Snapping & Align in one script

Try to imagine a series of 4-5 elements errantly on the page.
And a script that Ungroups if grouped, that Aligns to the nearest column guide left, and that Distributes Vertical Spacing using 0p0 values.
Does anyone have a trick up their sleeve?

It might be ambitious to check for grouping, then ungroup, etc ...  but I do have this going.
This segment will align all selected objects to the nearest left column margin.   My next hurdle is to find out how to Distribute Vertical Space by 0p0.

    var myColCount = app.activeDocument.pages[0].marginPreferences.columnCount;

  • Making a balloon deflate and follow a motion path?

So I drew a balloon in Motion... I applied the wriggle parameter to the rotation and position to make it look a little like it's floating in place (though I do find the movement a little too sharp)... Anyhow that's not really the problem I am facing...
Next I drew a path with the paintbrush tool... To the balloon group, I added the Motion Path behavior (changed the shape to Geometry and applied the path I drew to the well) and then Snap alignment to Motion behavior...
However, my balloon is now horizontal rather than starting off vertically...
Anyhow, this is just not working....
Any ideas or tips on how to get it to work so it actually looks like a balloon that is deflating?
    Thanks

Here is what I ended up with... balloons are at the beginning and the end... (hope you don't mind it's in Spanish)

Ah, and I did use my handy dandy "How to Cheat in Motion" book... I used some of the techniques from the Bubbles tutorial (Random Motion & Gravity)

  • Motion 5: Circular path

I am new to Motion and am still playing around with it. I know how to modify FCPX themes in Motion 5 and take them back into FCPX but that's about all.
Now, I want to see if I can do this - and this is just an example but knowing how to do this will let me do lots of other things:
I have a transparent png file of a rose. I want to place this rose on a circular path and rotate it. However, I cannot fathom how to do a circular path in Motion OR how to put the rose on the path.

Add behavior>motion path>circle. Depending on what effect you're trying to create, you may add another behavior, snap alignment to motion and/or adjust the position of the anchor point on your PNG.
There are invariably multiple ways to create effects and the above is just one.
The Motion manual is pretty informative and a good reference. To get a good understanding of Motion's fundamentals is important and I suggest that a video tutorial from someone like Ripple Training or Lynda, com…or a written tutorial (like Mark Spencer's) are cost-effective ways to achieve that understanding.
    Good luck.

  • Animating a still around a circle as tho it were the tip of a second hand

I'm new to animating in Motion and can't find how to animate an object in a circle. I'm wanting to animate a photo of someone in a circular path, as if the person's body were the tip of a clock's second hand. The line through the vertical axis of the body should always point to the circle's centre, as though the feet were scribing the line.
Should I attach the jpeg to a vertical line and animate that as a group in a rotation(with the vertical line invisible to the viewer?

Many, many ways to do this.
One way - use the anchor point tool to move the anchor point to the feet, then use a spin behavior to animate the photo. Or - use a motion path behavior with the shape set to circle and add the snap alignment to motion behavior, adjust the radius.

  • How can I get an object to rotate around another object in Motion 5? Also, can I export on a transparent background to FCPX?

Attempting to make one .png (its and arrow) rotate around a circlular logo which is also a .png. I need to them come out of Motion 5 for FCPX on a transpartent background. Anyone have any help for me. Stuck on this for hours now.

    Thanks Russ...
I spend severale hours (new to Motion) trying to figure out how to set the orbit around the cicular logo. I was able to finally get it. I was missing the square under the orbit behavior that I could plug in the circular logo. lol... Once I got that set, I added to the align to motion behavior and set the drag to that behavior to get it all to rotate and work right. I then published as a generator to FCPX. After setting the background to transparent.
Works like a charm. Just took most of my day trying to figure it out. lol.. But thats how you learn I guess.
    Thanks for the reply!

  • Snap to Point problems

    Illustrator CS6:
I feel a bit of a fraud even asking this, as it seems so basic – but I am having trouble "snapping" one object to another.
I can get objects to snap to ruler guides fine, but not other objects.
    Can anyone help?

There are three snapping options in the View menu: Smart Guides, Snap to Grid, and Snap to Point.
When the Smart Guides are on with the default options in the preferences, you can snap align the bounding box of the object being dragged to the bounding boxes of other objects by dragging the object from any point on its fill or path.  Smart Guides will show the alignment lines and also intersection lines when two sides of the bounding boxes of the dragged and target objects coincide and also when the center points coincide.
If you hold the Ctrl key down while dragging, the Smart Guides will also snap the point under the cursor which doesn't have to be an anchor point but any point on the object's fill or path to a path or anchor point of another object and will display a label indicating if it is the anchor point or path being snapped to. If you are not dragging a whole object but  segment/s you don't have to hold the Ctrl key - it will snap to paths and points.
Wen Snap to Grid is on, the Smart Guides if on are automatically turned off. When dragging whole objects, Snap to Grid snaps first straight lines if any to the nearest line on the gird and if there are no straight lines it snaps the nearest point of the object to the nearest point on the grid. There is no visual feedback with labels or cursor changes for eventual snapping because it always snaps to the nearest intersection of the grid.
Snap to Point can be on when one of the previous two options is on. It will snap the point under the cursor which like the Smart Guides could be also any point on the object's fill, to the anchor points of other objects and it will indicate this by changing the cursor to white.
Snap to Point compliments the Smart Guides by making the cursor white when snapping to a point and you don't have to hold Ctrl when dragging whole objects to snap to a point.
With Snap to Grid on, Snap to Point has a priority and the point under the cursor will snap to a point of another object instead to the grid.
Also have in mind that another level of snapping is added by using Snap to Pixel Grid feature available when creating a new document and from the Transform panel. It deals with anti-aliasing, it is object based, and will have a priority over all of the other snapping options

  • Creating a custom panel for Snapping....??

I'm trying to create a custom panel in Flash CS3 that will
allow me to turn snapping on and off (i.e. 'Snap Align', 'Snap to
Grid', 'Snap to Guides', etc.) by just checking or unchecking some
checkboxes, but I can't find any JSFL code that will change the
snapping options. When I try changing the snapping in a document,
it doesn't list it in the history panel. Is there any way to do
    this? PLEASE! Someone help me!

Thanks for the link, but it is broken for me. I think I see where you are sending me. Only one
problem....I am an artist...not a programmer. So I guess what I am asking for is a development tool that would be easy for this type of thing. Beyond the kid friendly interface it would be nice to be able to skin your art specific interface that you make. I mean really all it is is making fancy icons in photoshop and attaching PS actions or commands to the icons. Looks like the tools that are out there already will do this for me, they are just ugly right now. If we could skin these then it would be a little more appealing for the target audience that you are making the UI for.
    Thansk again for the help!
    NickZ.

  • Snap audio to end of previous audio?

I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but a search didn't reveal it. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to enable "snapping" in Encore. In Premiere, one asset would snap (align) into place right at the end of another asset, even if below it on the timeline. I have separate video and audio that I'm trying to align on the timeline, and can't be sure it is lined up without being able to snap it. Am I missing something obvious?
    Thanks for any help.
    Evan

    Evan,
If you have the elemental streams, I must have missed something with your problem. I'm now not sure where the lack of a "snap" is occurring.
Are you grouping your .m2v files on a single Timeline and then placing the WAV files to match up to their Videos?
Instead of using a single Timeline, consider using multiple Timelines, each with one .m2v and its corresponding WAV. With this approach, you will get a "snap" to the beginning of each Timeline.
You can then Link the Timelines to one another, or include them in a Playlist.
If I am still missing the problem, I'm sorry.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Strange outline on overlaid images after render, but not before.

    Hey everyone! Thanks in advance!
I am editing a music video, and I had to mask the brand name of the keyboard for copyright reasons. Basically I made a rectangle that matched the texture of the keyboard and overlaid it, keeping it aligned using motion keyframes.
After completing the keyframes, I thumbed through each frame, and everything looked great, but I needed to render it. After rendering, it had this strange halo/border thing around it making it very obvious that I had tried to cover something up.
The image is a .tiff with transparency. The video is DVCPro HD 1080 30P (Shot interlaced, 3:2 dropdown, de-interlaced) I have Final Cut version 7.0.3. The sequence is set to render in high-precision YUV.
Here are some links to pre-render and post-render images. You can see part of the keyboard just sticking in from the right.

    Thanks a bunch guys!

garbage matte a portion of the keyboard without the logo, move it into the right position and place it on top of the video, soften the edges with matte magic

  • Movieclip on Sub-pixel coordinates

I have a long running question that I've never been able to find an answer for.
When animating movieclips if they're not on whole pixel coordinates they will be blurry (if smoothing is turned on). I always have to adjust the coordinates to whole number values which is of course very tedious. Snap to pixel doesn't seem to solve the issue. If I'm useline timeline animation, I have to adjust both beginning and end frames
Does anyone have any suggestions or fix for this?
    thanks!

I've found that if you have ONLY "Snap Align" and "Snap to Pixel" checked in the View menu, you can get a stage object or a movieClip to align to an actual pixel. Moving that object in the same or subsequent keyframe also positions the object to a whole pixel. Do you see something different?  This is in Flash CC 2014.

  • Regions apearing out of time

    Can anyone explain this?
How come sometines when i zoom in the region apears to be in the wron place even though acording to the event list it is in the correct place.
I am also having issues with snap (Alignment Guides is off and I notice the option is not available since 10.0.5) also sometimes my Maschine will play out of time (used as a plugin triggered from Logic)
    Cheers
LPX 10.0.6 - seems more stable on 10.0.4

If there is no light on the front the TC has blown up.. this is not unusual at all.. TC are not that reliable.. but they seldom die in the first year.. still a certain percent of all electronic equipment does die.. that is what warranty is for.

  • Maya 8.5 (UB) Impressions.

Hi everyone, I also posted this on CGTalk but thought I would post it here as well.
I only had a few minutes to mess around with Maya 8.5 last night. From what I've been able to test so far:
    Cons:
    - While holding down the 'v' key (and presumably and snapping hotkey) to snap align an object to a vertex, if you immediately try to move the camera around you end up moving the object you just moved instead. This could be a problem....
    - The split polygon tool works better than in version 8, althought it is still a little finnicky.
    Pros:
    - FASTER! From working on a 160k+ scene in Maya 7 that I've been doing for a while, usually a lot of layers are turned off - and even then there's a lot of lag from time to time trying to move the camera around, almost as though the coils need to warm up all the time. In 8.5 I have all layers on and everything is snappy.
    - The UV Texture editor now shows UVs. As far as stability goes, I haven't done much except to see whether or not they show up. (On a negative side, you still can't move them around with MMB).
    -=-=-=-
So far though the pros far outweigh the cons for me at least. Keep in mind all I really do is modeling/texturing, so I'm not sure how it all fits in with everyone else's needs. My specs are a stock Mac Pro.
    respectfully,
    -rr

Did you install Maya 8.5 using a root account or using the Administrator log-in/password? Reason for asking is that I've noticed some reports online of Maya 8.5 OS X users experiencing difficulty getting the license verification to work unless they install while logged in as root.
