Snapshot copy of file is locked by another process?

Hey guys,

I've never run into this before, but I am having an issue where running robocopy to restore a folder and it's contents from the weekly snapshot I get errors on several files that they are currently in use?

The syntax: robocopy Y:\~snapshot\weekly.2015-08-02_0015\Foldername Y:\Foldername-RESTORED /MIR /Z

The error: Error 32 <0x00000020> filepath The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

As a snapshot copy is read-only and there are no other processes currently accessing the files (closed all explorer sessions, unmounted and remounted cifs share, and even rebooted host) to ensure there were no processes using this snapshot and still several files are failing to copy.

if you cancel the process and run it again immediately the last file you hung on, will usually copy just fine, but another one shortly thereafter will hang.

I used the SysInternals Process Explorer program to see if I could see what had those files locked and could find nothing. I check for vscan, and for volume clones based on that snapshot and again found nothing.

Just curious if anybody else had seen this behavior?

Guess may be when you are performing ROBOCOPY at that time snapmirror or snapvault transfer is going on . I would like you check that. Even Dirty snapshot create those problem RegardsRaghuveer(wellsfargo)

I did install it in the admin account.  Actually the computer has four accounts, one for my husband, where I installed it.  One for me which also is set to admin, one is called TEST and has nothing in it and one is guest user.
I don't know how AutoCad is interfacing with the account.  That is why I am not sure what to do about it.  I read other threads in various places and some seemed to point to something having to do with having multiple users.  The solutions were not clear.  I was hoping someone else had this problem and could tell me what to do.  I tried apple support but no help.  I have not tried AutoCad yet as I assumed they wont help since this is a free educational version of their product.

  • CUCM 7.0 OS locked by another process

    Hi, guys,
    CUCMBE7.0 system.
When I try to access OS from GUI, and click show network, I see the error message:
"The system is currently locked by another process. Please try again later."
I can access the OS from CLI with no problem. System is in production, and I cannot reload it easily.
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    thanks,

i think i faced similar bug before i guess. I stopped the DRS while it's performing a backup and the system lockup the database. Talked to cisco tac and decided to rebooted the server after office hrs.
In the end, the callmanager fails to boot up. I have to reinstall the callmanager from fresh again and restore using DRS.
Therefore be very careful if you intend to reboot. The cisco tac told me it was the result of one of the HDD failure which result in system lockup. Well, it's over.

  • The network connecion was lost for the file ___, or the file was modified by another process --

I'm helping a friend out at his archtectural firm and just moved all of their network files from a Windows 7 workstation over to a new i7 mac mini server running the latest Server OS.  Several folks on his team are running Windows 7 and have drives mapped to the new share.  Since putting the server in place - several of them (inconsistently) are getting the error message "The network connecion was lost for the file ___, or the file was modified by another process."
I have googled for an answer and have read several forum posts related to the issue on forums.adobe.com.
    Any news on this issue?
    Thanks.

    Sorry forgot to mention.
Were working here with a simple domain network ( 10 - 12 users in the domain )
We have one file server, thats were the InDesign documents are saved.
And we got one email sever.
This is mainly a windows network, we got 2 macs connected. (where my macbook is 1 of the 2)
I connect with my macbook to the file server via smb://servername
Never had a problem with that, worked 100% fine for the last year.
And this problem doesnt occur with other files that are stored on the file server (Think of Photoshop documents and Illustrator documents)

  • Error: object "EPC Number" locked by another process

In a particular ALE we are sending to AII from outisde SAP... we are sending some 2000+ EPC's to hit the AII. This is a real life situation which we are testing.
The ALE messages are sent every 4 mins for various processes like Load, Unload, Pack etc.
Now after analyzing the logs we found that all were showing errors and in all the lots one particular epc is locked. The error message reads..
"Object urn epc..... 3992 is locked by another process; try again later"
Now this same EPC is shown as lock error in all the sets. And none of the EPC's sent in the ALE reached AII and EM later.
Now our inference was since once EPC is blocked.. the whole lot got blocked.
And another issue is " How do we unlock this EPC and the process" Is there any method.
We also check SM 58 to see transactional RFC's and did F6 to execute those that were in Que.
Does the System be able to take 2000+EPC's in one ALE at a single go every 5 mins for various Processes like Load , Pack etc.

    Hello Ramachandra,
Opening this very old message as we too are facing the same issue.
Could you please share your solution or any guidance.
    1. How do you know which process locking the object?
    2. This looks like an issue when the payload is more than a certain tolerance. How do you work around this constraint?

  • Failing capture - file being used by another process.

    Hi there.
So i have a IBM system x 3550 m4 booting from SAN Windows server 2012.
I'm trying to capture an image using MDT 2012 installed on windows server 2008 r2.
The first try to capture failed because of lack of proper network driver in WinPE. So i've managed to boot again in the system (the PE after restart was giving me a 0xc000000f bsod). I've put drivers into boot image and started a second attempt to capture.
There was a strange thing: the process was stuck very long on bcdedit sub-tasks (as were lagging the interactive bcdedit calls i've tried to do from command line). But nevertheless it managed to reboot and almost finished capturing but crashed at 83% with

  • File system task - Move file issue, skip the current log file thats open by another process - IIS logs

    Hi,
I have created a package to move IIS log files from their source directory to another directory called processing. However, when the package tries to move the current log file it errors because the file is in use by another process (by IIS as its still writing
to it). I would like the package to just ignore the "in-use" file and process the rest and show the package completing successfully. The file in use will be rolled by IIS at midnight and the file will be picked up by the next package run.
However, when the file is rolled and becomes free a new log file is created which will be marked as "in-use"...... which should be ignored at the next run.
Is there some way that I can tell the file system task to ignore in use files or add an event handler to do the same sort of thing?
    Any assistance is appreciated

    Hi Arthur,
    Thank you for your reply.
I have resolved the issue with the following example:
    http://www.timmitchell.net/post/2010/08/23/ssis-conditional-file-processing-in-a-foreach-loop/
What I realised was that I needed to just ignore the current log file which gets created daily, so using the above example (and changing the last written date to created date) I am able to ignore/skip the log thats in use.

  • The network connection was lost for the file or the file was modified by another process

the above titled error quit my ID this is very stratnge problem for work please tel me how can i fix the problem i insert the snapshot also for this problem
please help me to fix this problem thank you

I assume that you mean home computer and not a hope computer?!?
Given that you are not on a network or assume you mean at least the file(s) you are working on are not network-based, one other possibility comes to mind.
Are your documents on an external hard drive, connected by either USB or IEEE1394 (Firewire) connections? If so, such drives are sometimes configured to go into “sleep mode” after a certain amount of time of inactivity where that inactivity time may range from a few minutes to hours. A “sleep mode” essentially keeps the disk drive's controller electronics alive, but powers down the rotating disk completely. When you attempt to subsequently access such a drive again, the drive exits the sleep mode and the rotating disk is restarted. Depending upon the disk model, age, and condition of the disk drive, such start-up can take upwards of 20 to 30 seconds in the worst case (I've personally seen this!). What may be happening is that the underlying disk device driver or the operating system may report this condition back to the application (in this case InDesign) as a failed or timed-out operation. InDesign doesn't know whether a “disk operation” is to a local disk drive or a network drive and as such, could yield a message about network failure.
Two notes: (1) Internal disk drives also can have a sleep mode as part of a “energy saver” configuration and (2) Disk drives with a sleep mode can also be configured to never go into sleep mode.
My advise would be to check you computer's energy saving settings to see if disk drives are shut down by the operating system during a certain period of inactivity. If so, disable that. If not and especially if you are using an external drive, the disk manufacturer, such as Seagate, Western Digital, etc., typically have stand alone utilities for low level disk formatting, diagnostics, and also for setting of disk sleep modes.
Let us know if this is what may be behind your problems.

  • Adobe InDesgin CS6 "The networks connection was lost for the file, name of file, or the file was modified by another process. Then the document just spins and spins until we force quit. Very frustrating. What can we do to fix this?

Running on Mac OS X 10.9.4 and InDesign CS6.

Are you opening a file from a file server? It sounds like you connection with the server was broken, or there is a problem with the server configuration.
When happens if you reboot, reopen InDesign, and open a file on your local hard drive?

  • File locked by "another user"

    Hi,
I am supporting a small office with 8x Windows 7 Pro 64x machines running Office 2007. They have a 2008 R2 DC which is also file server.
Recently we started getting the message that files are locked by "another user". This does not happen all the time and the files are not in use by anyone when it occurs. If a file is used by someone else it gives the user name in the error message.
They can try opening the file one moment and it fails, try again and it works fine. Sometimes it takes repeated tries or they have to open the file from within Excel (they usually just double click the file to open). I'm not sure if it happens with Word as
well, as they are a quite Excel heavy office.
I did some investigation online and a lot of the threats I found were related to Windows Defender - which my client was using. So I got rid of that and installed McAfee, which I liked much better anyway. Unfortunately that did not help and my client reports
that the incidences of locked files are getting more and more, to the point where they are quite annoyed.
In all honesty, I don't know where to start to get on top of this thing and would appreciate some guidance ;)
    Thanks!
    Maike
Here a screenshot I got, a little small - sorry!

    Hi Maike,
Check if the following information would help:
There is a public blog on file locking issues (http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2012/05/14/the-definitive-locked-file-post.aspx).
    I would suggest the following:
If you are seeing problems where the file is locked when double clicking from Windows Explorer, but the files open up correctly when opened in Excel or Word, do the following:
Turn off the Preview Pane, Details Pane and pop ups that show information about file and desktop items
This is a problem that has been reported to affect Windows 7 clients only, not Windows XP. The problem here may have something to do with the Windows Explorer in Windows 7. We are currently investigating this further and will post more information as it is
    available.
In a Windows Explorer window, do the following:
    1. Right click on the Start Button.
    2. Click 'Open Windows Explorer'.
    3. At the top left click Organize > Layout
    4. Uncheck Details Pane and Preview Pane.
    5. On a Windows menu, click on Tools > Folder Options. In the box that opens up, click on the View tab. Scroll down the list to“Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items” and clear the checkbox and then click OK.
If you are seeing issues where the wrong user name is showing up, there is a known bug on that and a fix:
In cases where the wrong user name is displayed in the file lock dialog
Sometimes where it says 'another user' it has the name of someone that didn't open the file or it has no name at all. Just a big ' ' where a name ought to be. Fear not, there is a fix for this problem. The flavor depends on
whether you have Excel 2010 or Excel 2007. The below KB Articles contain hotfixes that address several issues, not just the file locked issue. But in the dialog of the article you will see this as one of the problem descriptions:
Assume that you have an .xls file that is protected by Information Rights Management (IRM) on a network share. When you open the file in Excel 2007, a File In Use dialog box appears. However, the dialog box does not display the
correct name of the user who locked the file. Therefore, you cannot edit the file.
Understand that these fixes don't make the File in Use dialog go away, they just correct the problem of showing bogus user name information on the dialog itself.

  • Files being locked by LR - V1 WinXP

I've had a couple of instances where image files get locked after being processed in LR.
I imported approx. 53 images into LR using the downloader and processed them. I then noticed that I'd got them in the wrong folder structure. This was set to make folders for Year, Month and Day but what I really wanted was a single folder for Y-M-D. So, I used LR to create a new folder e.g 2007-03-18 and then went to move the images to the new folder.
The move started Ok but after about 50% of the images were moved a warning popped up along the lines of one file couldn't be moved. Strangely enough when I went to move all the other files but this one - they moved ok. Just one file with a problem. Number 5 in the sequence FWIW.
I quit LR and tried again - same problem. I restarted XP - same problem. I did a Power off/on cycle - same problem.
I then used Windows Explorer to take a look at the file. It's not set to Read Only but even in Windows Explorer I cannot move, rename or delete it. The message indicates that a process may have locked it but what that process is I have no idea.
This is not the first time its happened but because I was using a Beta version with just 'play' images it never concerned me. Now I'd like to find out what's happening.
    Anyone else seeing this?
    Colin

I'm definitely seeing this issue that files cannot be renamed or moved ... LR & Windows XP SP2.
Does anyone have a solution? As Colin did, I've checked file and folder attributes ... all look ok. The error indication from attempting to rename in Windows Explorer after LR can't is "Cannot rename filename. It is being used by another person or program." Of course, that is not the case.
This issue is a definite roadblock in my attempt to incorporate LR into my workflow.

Sometimes Windows can place a lock on files that will
prevent you from even reading its contents. You may
have to close the MS Outlook application in your
machine to be able to read the contents of this file.Of course I knew Microsoft has locked the file.
I also knows Microsoft locks a lot of other files too.
The idea is that we just want to read the file, we are not writing or modifying anyway, so we should be able to read it. Of course that depends on whether Java wants to step into the area and do something about it. (Please read http://www.stbernard.com/products/docs/ofm_whitepaperV8.pdf)
Well, the easiest way anyone could advise is probably to use Microsoft development tools. The idea is nobody wants to be a "Micro-slaves" if we could...
So I am still waiting for someone with the area of expertise to reply...
