SNMP timeout from localhost

Hey guys,
I enabled SNMP to try to graph different things, and SNMP walk works but always times out after "hrSWRunPerfMem".
snmpwalk -v1 -c mycommunity localhost:
[snip]
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrSWRunPerfMem.916 = INTEGER: 8656 KBytes
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrSWRunPerfMem.926 = INTEGER: 4420 KBytes
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrSWRunPerfMem.932 = INTEGER: 2800 KBytes
Timeout: No Response from localhost
After this error, I have to restart SNMP completely because it won't answer anymore. /var/log/snmpd.log shows nothing except the manual restarts.
I disabled almost everything except rocommunity and still get that error. There is no firewall enabled at all.
Any ideas?

Fixed by using net-snmp from Macports.

  • Snmpd: No response from localhost

    Hi!
    I recently have been messing around with my network cards in order to configure teaming.
    Before this, I was using eth0 as my network card and snmpd was working perfectly.
    After I achieved to use bond0 as a network device bonding eth0 + eth1, snmpd stopped responding.
    Needless to say I restarted the daemon and tested if it is running
    The snmp version I'm using is v1 and the config is pretty straightforward...... does anyone have a clue on what's going on? why suddenly snmp is not responding?
    Whenever I parse "snmpwalk -v 1 -c read_only_user localhost" i get the message: "Timeout: No Response from localhost"
    Thanks!

    I think I fixed it:
    I had to change the line of the systemd unit:
    ExecStart=/usr/sbin/snmpd -p /var/run/snmpd.pid
    Now it SEEMS to work.... fingers crossed
    If this works... how to notify the package maintainer?

  • WLSE Configuration archive download SNMP timeout

    HI, I´m new to WLSE. My AP´s are already discovered and managed, but when I try to download the configuration archive from them, the Job Always fail with a SNMP timeout error message. This problem occur in the upgrade firmware job too.
    Whe I go to reports, device center, I can see the AP configuration, but in the configuration>archives>view archive I have nothing.
    I appreciate your help

    You can configure the timeout value by selecting Firmware > Advanced Parameters. From this option you can change the "Per device job operation timeout value" to a higher value

  • DNS timeout from Google crawl

    Hey all,
    I've just registered my new site with Google webmaster tools, built a sitemap with Rage Sitemap Automator and I'm getting a DNS lookup timeout from the main domain name.
    I'm using my own domain name, and the time out is coming from the name on its own, ie. www.hazelmills.com
    Could this be because I should not include this domain in the site map without the name of the site and index? ie. www.hazelmills.com/microsite/enter.html ??
    Any advise gratefully received.

  • Sending alerts as SNMP-Traps from Solman to Nagios

    Hi!
    we would like to set up the alerting structure for sending the alerts as SNMP-Traps from Solman to Nagios.
    The questions:
    1) Is such integration possible? If yes, how complexe?
    2) What are the technical steps to perform in order to realize these steps?
    3) What are the steps to perform on Nagios server?

  • SNMP Requests from Solaris

    Hi, I am new to Solaris and have some questions about SNMP.
    Does Solaris (9,10) include any binaries that allow you to make SNMP request to external equipment such as routers or other SNMP hardware?
    I am considering the possibility of using a shell script to pull SNMP data from network elements, save it to a text file and render it to a web page.
    Does that sound about right? I figured if binaries exist for this than it should be doable.

  • SNMP traps from EMC SRM to SCOM 2012 R2

    Hi,
    I'm trying to configure SCOM 2012 R2 as an SNMP trap listner.  I've seen many articles on setting this up but all are based around SNMP traps from network devices which must first be discovered and identified in the network device list.
    However in my scenario I am trying to monitor/listen for traps send by a Linux box hosting EMC SRM - this management software can be configured to send SNMP traps out so it is these that I need to try and listen for/capture.
    So can anyone explain how I can configure SCOM 2012 R2 to do this.  I have tried to just used the IP of the Linux box and discover it as a network device but it fails - in Network Devices Pending Mgmt it says No response Ping, even though I can
    ping the box from the Server OK - so I am guessing you cant cheat scom in discovering the Linux box as a network device in ths way?
    Can anyone offer any advice for setting this up.  Just to add I've ensured the RunAs Community String (public) and SNMP version is correct on both side...
    Cheers...

    Once the Network Device (Linux server in this case) is discovered you will still need a rule that targets that class and accepts incoming SNMP Traps for that OID, or All OIDs if you prefer.  I found 2 links that may be of help, the first is just a basic
    overview of the SNMP listener in SCOM 2012 as it has changed from the OS Listener in 2007 to a dedicated one.
    http://systemcentertech.com/2012/05/17/scom-2012-built-in-snmp-trap-listener/
    The second link covers SNMP setup, but starting at Step 7 there is a great how-to on creating your own SNMP rule which will be needed to collect your traps.

    Hi
    I have a requirement to send SNMP traps from BPEL. I am using FMW11.1.1.3 over weblogic.

    Yes, I think the Network Devices need to be discovered first in order to receive traps and generate alerts.

  • SNMP traps from HP NNMi - SCOM

    Hi,
    We wan't to forward snmp traps from hp nnmi to scom.
    I have found a description of a solution for this here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/19c29988-dfe8-4918-b0d5-f3124bcfea95/operations-manager-and-hewlett-packard-nnmi?forum=operationsmanagergeneral
    I have added a server as snmp device. By using snmptrapgen I have also confirmed that the traps are received from scom.
    In NNM I have specified that all traps are to be forwarded to the server which is discovered as a network device. I have also activated the snmp services and set the correct settings. These traps have not been received in scom.
    Have I understood this correctly? If NNMi just forwards the traps, will not the traps have source IPs which is not registered as network devices in SCOM, and therefor be discarded?
    I would very much like to hear from people how have done a simular type of integration :)
    Thanks in advance, Best Regards

  • Can't load jdbc driver from localhost

    I'm having problems loading the jdbc driver from localhost when using a java com object in ASP.
    The simple class compiles fine and runs perfect from dos command line but gives this exception when run from personal webserver:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: sun/jdbc/odbc/JdbcOdbcDriver
    Obviously, it is not finding the jdbc driver, but what is the problem? It finds the driver when run from dos locally. Do I need a 3rd party driver when using as a COM object?
    Here is a code snippet:
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    Connection TestConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:systemDSN", "username", "password");
    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

    I don't think it's exactly a classpath problem. I think when you run from the DOS command line, you are using the java.exe program that contains Sun's JVM and all the associated classes including sun/jdbc/odbc/JdbcOdbcDriver. But when you use this Java COM object (which I am not familiar with), if it doesn't find that class then it must be using the Microsoft VM, which naturally doesn't include that class you are having a problem with.

  • LMS 3.2 DFM-all devices QUESTIONED-SNMP Timeout

    I imported 26 devices to DFM. All devices became QUESTIONED, error is SNMP timeout. Here are the troubleshooting steps that I tried:
    1. rediscovered devices
    2. deleted and rediscovered devices
    3. increase snmp timeout settings
    4.re-entered snmp strings in device credentials
    But I still get the same result.I noticed that devices become questioned so fast.Any advise on this?

    Hi,
    What version of SNMP you are using on these 26 devices ?Try to do the following:
    - Go to Device Center
    - Select one device for test
    - click on "check device credentials", select SNMP according to the version you are using.
    - See the results.
    May be you get more technical and detailed information about the SNMP timeout error. I have already experienced some problems using SNMP v3. The problem was resolved when I configured the SNMP v2c instead of v3.
    Also, I suggest you to try do "SNMP walk" test in the Device Center. If you get some results reading, for example, the value of "sysObjectId", just verify the Credentials Settings in DCR. You can edit the Credentials trhough the Device Center -> Edit device credentials.
