Snow particle emitter
Want to use the snow particle emitter for a 5 minute animation, but it wont let me stretch it much past a minute, just end up with the spinning colour wheel for about 2 mins then its just the same length.
any ideas?

I am working on an animation using the Snow Blizzard Emitter in Motion and was trying to find the control or Life Span of the emission. Basically what I am trying to do is make the snow appear to stop and remain on the screen, looking like it is pilling up on the graphic below. Are there controls with this Emitter to make such an effect? Thanks!

You can use a wipe to reveal the piled up snow on a lower layer. It's crude but works in most cases. Takes a lot of energy to create the snow covered image, though, and to build it so the snow is masked by the alpha channel.
There are several plugins for After Effects that use an alpha channel as the collection driver for particles. I do not know if there is a similar product for Motion. Must be.

Sending a particle emitter out on a random journey
Challenge: I have a particle emitter that starts at a particular point on the left side of the screen, and 5 seconds later I want it at a particluar point on the right side of the screen. But in those 5 seconds I want it to go out and drop particles all over the screen.
I could draw a motion path for the emitter to follow, but I'd like to have a path that is a little more random.
I'm hoping there is a behavior that will allow me to get this random motion while still being able to target where the emitter ends at the 5 second mark?Put the emitter in a group. Move the group with a Motion Path behavior. Put a wriggle on the emitter's position. That way the group will get where it's needed, but along the way, the emitter will wriggle around.

Very Bizarre (to me, anyway) problem animating particle emitter movement
I'm fairly new to Motion, and I'm sure this falls under the "missing a piece of info" category, but for the life of me, I can't figure this one out.
I've added a simple particle emitter to a video. It's called "Pop Star," found in the "Sparkles" subfolder of the particle emitters folder in the library.
I want to animate some basic movement of the entire particle emitter. I basically just want it to move from about the middle of the screen to the upper right corner of the screen while doing its particle emitter magic.
I have placed the emitter in a group by itself. When I choose the group and drag, I have no problem whatsoever moving the emitter wherever I want. HOWEVER, when I try to RECORD the movement, or when I try to set movement keyframes the same way I do when animating any other content, the emitter will no longer move at all. Instead, when I click the group and drag, a red control point appears and I end up dragging that. When I play the animation back, the symbol representing the anchor point is moving along the line from the first control point to the one I created, but the particle emitter itself does not move at all.
I've tried this on two separate computers, so I'm sure it's user error - I just don't understand what's happening...or NOT happening.
Any advice/ideas/suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance...Thanks for the response. So the location parameter is unable to be changed in certain emitters like this one? I chose another emitter at random, "Diesel Fire" I think, and I WAS able to animate the movement of that emitter the way I was trying to animate the movement of the "Pop Star" emitter. I have to admit, I'm still having a hard time understanding why that is.
I suppose a workaround here would be to export the "Pop Star" emitter separately and then bring it back in as a .mov file?

Is it possible to mask a 3D particle emitter? I've tried using the isolate button but the option to create a mask is not available.

you cannot mask a 3d object, which makes sense if you think about it since you would need a 3D mask!
However you can put a 3D layer into a 2D group and mask that. However it will effect how the 3D layer interacts with other layers.

"Masking" Particle Emitter using image?
Okay, so here's what I'm trying to do - I want to use the Firework particle emitter, but I want it to 'explode' in the outline of an image.
I have the image prepared (it's an outline of a drawn character - just the black outlines and transparency), but I can't quite figure out how to get it to work. Setting 'Shape' to Image in the Emitter tab seems to be the way to go, but none of the arrangements work (it becomes a blurry shape vaguely resembling the image), even if the emission alpha cutoff is on.
Can anyone suggest a method to get this to work?Yes everything is set accordingly, and there is a camera in the scene. It works fine during RAM Preview playback, but it's as though it becomes a 2D image when exported to quicktime or brought into FCP.

I'm trying to make and underwater effect: i have put the Bubbles particle emitter in front of a blue plane. The problem is that I just see the blue plane in my active camera and not the bubbles. What should I do?

Particle emitter stops and starts, seemingly randomly
I have a particle emitter which is raining down particles (Line shape, 0˚ emission range) All goes well, until I get to frame 900 (and 1800, and 2700 etc...). At this point the particles stop, semmingly automatically, until 102 frames later when the stream of particles starts up again. This continues throughout the composition, every 900 frames or so. I am wondering if there is a solution to this, or a workaround.
ThanksAlso, when I change the In and Out points of the emitter, it is still at frame 900 of the composition that it stops.

Problem: extending the duration of the "clockwork" particle emitter
Hi,
I'm trying to extend the "clockwork" emitter's duration. The default is 10 seconds and it won't go beyond that. I clicked and dragged the out point but after 10 sec, it goes blank. I tried extending the duration of all the elements of the particles - by clicking the triangle next to the "clockwork" layer and then extending the duration of each part - but still no luck.
Seems like I'm trying the most obvious things, but I'm missing something. Can anyone please help?Welcome to the discussions, FYI:

How to get a particle emitter to have an image for color?
There appears to be an option in the 'emitter' tab, under color mode, to change the color to 'take image color'. However, this option is not clickable for some reason. I am having a person cut a wall with a lightsaber and I want the emitter to not be a solid color. I will include a screenshot.
From the Motion manual:
"Take Image Color: When you choose this mode, each new particle’s color is based on the color of the image at the position where the particle was generated. This mode is available only when the Shape pop-up menu in the Emitter tab is set to Image."

Spin behavior with particles emitter not smooth when close to camera

Just got Motion 4 and was playing with it last night with the particle system.

As you can see in the screen shot, I have an emitter spinning and moving towards past the camera emitting particles at zero speed (leaving a trail). As it get close to the camera, the particle curve is not smooth. I am wondering if this is some kind of limitation or am I missing some setting?

Edmond LeungWithout seeing a screenshot of the behavior settings, I'm gonna say that the problem is how you're animating the position of the emitter. You should look into the Motion Path behavior. I think it's much better suited to a curving animation.
It's certainly not a limitation of the software.

Loading particle emitter from .sks file in Xcode 5
I have created a particle effect (which is in my project as a .sks file) in Xcode 5, and have added the SpriteKit framework to my project.
I'm having problems actually getting it to integrate/show in my UIViewController though.
I want to create a snow effect as the top view of my View Controller...No luck though!
I have used the following code in my .m file

Many Thanks!Cp5 and Cp5.5 both use .cptx file ending, but the two are not the same. If you open a Cp5 file in Cp 5.5 and then save it, you will see a warning dialog telling you that once you DO save it, you won't be able to open it again in Cp5.

Can I make a particle emitter shine through a hole in a photoshop image
Heres what I want to do. I have a mailbox that I cut slots in, in photoshop. I want to put a partical emitter in the back of it, and just have it shine out the slots. so I looks like something has blown up inside of it. Is this possible.
Thank youIf you have do do many then buy Toast 8 Titanium and use them directly in Toast and skip first making a QT version then turning around and making yet another version. Which avoid compressing the clips twice as well. MPEG-1 is a very low quality codec so I would not compress the clips once to QT and again to iDVD.
Also iDVD is fussy and takes forever, Toast isn't and doesn't. -
