So anybody ready to try Mountain Lion?

I have M-audio Fast Track and Mainstage 2.2. I'll let you know what happens

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and experienced what could have been a much bigger problem. Luckily I only began using Mainstage recently and didn't have much to lose. Let me explain what happened.
I recently began playing with a new band as guitarist and aux keyboards. I decided to use Mainstage for all of my guitar patches, keyboard sounds, and also backing tracks for the band.
I created my first concert in Mainstage (v 2.1.3) prior to upgrading to Mountain Lion. The concert consisted of about 7 patches, 2 of which contained Playback tracks. Everything was working fine.......until I upgraded to Mountain Lion.
Upon first launch of Mainstage in Mountain Lion, the program became unresponsive while loading up my concert. It appeared to freeze while loading "Playback" items. I forced quit and relaunched. When relaunched Mainstage did not try to open up the previouse concert, and instead took me to the quickstart window. I tried to open my concert manually, and again experienced the same issue.
My next step was to create a new concert and replicate my previous concert. Everything seemed OK until the next time I went to open Mainstage. Now I couldn't open the new concert.
Very odd, but I did find a fix......kinda.
I ended up deleting all of the Mainstage pref files, and everything is working fine now. My old concert is useless though. But now I can atleast create new ones.
Anyone else experience anything like this?

Hi,  My Mavericks is running incredibly slow. Has anyone managed to revert back to Mountain Lion successfuly, or should I just stick it out and wait for an eventual update.
    Thanks

You could certainly go back to your previous OS if you want, or we could try to help you fix what's wrong. Here's a reference: How to revert OS X back from Mavericks: Apple Support Communities

  • I am ready to dump mountain lion and go back to snow leopard

Can someone stop me? I am so frustrated with lion and now mountain lion that I am actually looking at dumping the OS X 10.8 and reverting back to snow leopard.
I have a small office with three mac machines. I have been a fan of the macs for many years, even though we have software for enigineering that requires a windows versions. I have several issues that will not go away on each machine. I have a table below that describes a few of the problems. These problems have left me and my staff with no trust that our work is safe (yes, we do backups and TM). Our work flow is no longer fluid or fun with mountain lion.
    Machine
    OS X issues
    Macbook 2009 5,0 running 10.7.3
Graphics problems, extremely slow performance opening and closing files.
Macbook Pro mid 2009, 5,1 now testing 10.8.3 beta
Graphics problems, dropped WIFI, time machine corruption, very slow finder performance, CUDA performance issues, loads of lsboxd issues, spotlite runs indexing alot, Sync services still broken in mountain lion. Cannot keep the Adobe licensing for Creative Suite 4 activated. Fresh install of 10.8.2
Macbook Pro Late 2011, running 10.8.2
Graphics problems, flash problems, kernel panics after sleep, Kernel panics with VM Ware fusion 5.0.2, Memory relase issues after software quits, Very slow finder performance, Safari causes kernel panics. Any panic causes multiple versions of Office for mac 2011 autosaved files from one original file., spotlite indexing issues. Sync services still broken in mountain lion. Fresh install of 10.8.2
I am normally a good troubleshooter and have resolved many issues so far. But they just cntiue and I am spending a lot of time resolving problems with the machine's OS that I could be using for productivity. I guess I feel like the old days as an engineer in an office where windows requires a near constant windows administrator.
Is this just me whining? Is anyone else suffering through the OS X 10.7 and 10.8 issues?
Somebady tell me I am crazy... I just want to get back to work.

  • Multiple problems with Mountain Lion

I purchased OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 on August 23, 2012 and iPhoto '11 9.4.3 on August 22, 2012.  I have started having problems last month with freezes, various Apple software not working properly, and after the last update, I no longer can access my flash drives.  I recently posted about my problems with iPhoto not letting me look at individual photos and showing only the black screen with thumbnail strip on the bottom (followed the reply poster's advice, thank you, but without any luck).
Now I am having issues following the last 2 updates from Apple to my OS.
    - Spotlight will only look in the web (followed the steps provided by another discussion by going to system preferences, selecting all the files/areas to exclude using the "+" sign, then using the "-" to remove all the ones in privacy to force spotlight to reindex, no luck, still not working, even unchecking the webpages box in search results)
    - Extremely slow response of my iMac, for instance, looking in my Applications folder on my dock, it opens in stages with each stage getting bigger and bigger until it is open to its normal window size (hope that makes sense)
    - iTunes corrupted immediately after the lastest update when I tried to create a new folder for music resulting in a corrupted iPod and having to restore the iPod and reload the iTunes and all my songs from back up
    - iMac no longer recognizes any of my flash drives (the USB ports recognize my iPod, Seagate external, digital recorder, etc) but refuse to recognize my flash drives.  My flash drives work fine on all other computers both Mac and PC (have a 2 Memorex, 2 PNY, and 1 Scandisk brands).  I did what another poster suggested (I browsed to see what to try before posting here).  When I go to disk utilities, I am unable to "verify "the flash drive and not able to "mount" it
The flash drive is grayed out as are the other steps.
I am ready to uninstall Mountain Lion and go back to the OS that my computer came with in Jan 2010.  I have not had any issues with Mountain Lion until last month.  I am open to suggestions and ideas, not sure what happened in May (I did not load any new software, no brown outs, black outs, nothing done differently in May that I had not been doing all along).
    Thanking you in advance

Please read this whole message carefully, especially the warnings, before doing anything.
    1. I can only guess which of the modifications you've made to your system is causing the problem. The changes suggested here should be considered provisional; they may not solve your problem, or they may remove functionality that you find useful. If a third-party system modification that you want to keep is causing the problem, refer to its developer for support.
    2. WARNING: Back up all data now if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state, even if it becomes unbootable. If you’re not sure you can do that, STOP — DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING. If you’re dissatisfied with the results of the procedure suggested below, restore from your backup. I will not be responsible for the consequences, and I will not be able to help, if you ignore this warning.
    3. You should either remove or update the following system modification(s), if an update is available from the developer:
    N/A
and definitely remove at least the following:
    BlackBerry Desktop Manager
    CleanMyMac
    Eltima SyncMate
    Seagate Storage Driver
    † Sophos
    † Symantec AntiVirus
    4. Whatever you remove must be removed completely, and (unless otherwise specified in this message) the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job. I can't be more specific, because I don't install such things myself. Please do your own research.
You will generally have to reboot after uninstalling a system modification. Until you do that, the uninstallation may have no effect, or unpredictable effects.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
Again, please don't ask me to do this research for you. You can do it better than I can, because I haven't installed the product and I may not even know what it is.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
WARNING: Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.
    5. I recommend that you never reinstall the modifications marked with a dagger (†) above, if any. If your problem is resolved after uninstalling all the above modifications and rebooting, but you still want to use some of those not marked with a dagger, you can experiment with putting them back, one at a time, testing carefully after each step. Keep in mind that system modifications may be incompatible with each other or with future OS X updates, so it may not be clear which one is at fault.
    6. If you still have problems after making the suggested changes and rebooting, post again. Remember: if you don’t like the results of this procedure, you can undo it by restoring from the last backup you made before you started.
Remove the Sophos product by following the instructions on this page.

  • How do i wipe my hard drive and install Mountain lion

OK i wanted to install mavrick but i got my macbook pro in june of 2007 so it's to old. The command R does nothing when i reboot, and everything i find online about clearing my hard drive and getting ready to install mountain lion has that step in it. So how do i clear my hard drive so my computer is brand new like the day i bought it and also update my OS from snow leapard. Do i need to buy the disk for mountain lion or can i just download it? if someone has a link to something helpful i would love to have it.. Thanks

If you can't run Mavericks, you can't run Mountain Lion because they have the same hardware requirements.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
If your computer isn’t compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.

  • Anyone has tried upgrading to Mountain Lion on MacBookPro5,5?

So, yeah, as I asked on the topic – Has anybody tried upgrading to Mountain Lion on MacBookPro5,5?
If you've upgraded, I would like to know these information
How long is the Battery life?
Is everything smooth as on Lion?
    Any troubles on upgrading?

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.

  • Mountain Lion?  Time Machine, Time Capsule, Quicken 16.1.2

I recently upgraded to Lion and had trouble for 2 weeks with Quicken 2007, as well as my Time Capsule and Time Machine.  I finally got everything working again, so now am afraid to try Mountain Lion!  Anyone try it yet with success?

Turning off the spotlight on the external hard disk helped improve the speed dramatically.
That may indicate a damaged index.  Keep an eye on subsequent backups -- if they take a long time, and/or show "indexing backup" on the Time Machine preferences panel for very long, you may need to delete it, so OSX can recreate it.  See the pink box in #D2 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting for instructions.
It will say this is a time machine disk so except the time machine folder everything else will be added to the exception list.
Is there anything else on the drive (in the same partition)?  If so, that's usually not a good idea.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #3 for an explanation.
Now says 19hrs still a lot according to me but much better than 2 days.
Yes, that's quite slow, especially if your Mac supports USB 3.
If it doesn't, it should be running at USB 2 speeds, which for a full backup should be, very roughly, 40-50 GB/hour.
See the rest of #D2 in the Troubleshooting link for other causes of slow backups.

  • HT4818 how long does it take to install mountain lion?

My computer (the App Store page) says that it is downloading Mountain Lion, but I don't see any progress and it has literally been "downloading" for hours. I've been billed for Mountain Lion, but it is not on my computer. I'm sure that my computer was ready to accept Mountain Lion. Now what?

It all depends on your download speed. Patience is a virtue.
Leave your computer running.  Verify throught the app store the download is in progress or restart the download.

  • HT4463 i clicked buy app for mountain lion but it never downloaded

I clicked buy app ,buying mountain lion and it never downloaded .

I have the same problem. I am running OS 10.6.8 so am ready to download mountain lion; however, the download only sits on my dock stating: "Waiting". Unfortunately for me, the waiting never ends with no new OS on my IMac. I am hoping that someone will see this message and suggest an approach to downloading this new OS.

  • Purchased Mountain Lion about a week ago and still cannot redeem it from Apple Store. Getting a "please try again later" error?

    Guys,
I have Lion. I have software that is not yet ready for Yosemite and I need to download video editing software that will only run on Mountain Lion and above. With this in mind, I purchased Mountain Lion online LAST WEEK. I received the secure email/pdf and tried to redeem it from Apple Store. I keep getting this message: "This item is being modified. Please try again later". That was about 6 DAYS AGO. I gave it some time and tried today and I am still getting this message.
What is going on? Called customer service and got disconnected twice (I don't think intentionally though). The third person had more info on this and it seems that Apple is just finding out about this and it may be related to the Watch rollout. Why don't Apple people say something? I check online and my order says "complete" but I have not received what I paid for and there's an error occurring. Now I am just here waiting to see if and when I can get this software.
Can someone provide more info on this? Is there another way to get Mountain Lion? Is it available on disc?
Without the OS upgrade I cannot use the video editing software.

Make sure your Mac qualifies for Mountain Lion  >  Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
If you have anti virus software installed, disable that before downloading apps.
Turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security (or Security & Privacy) > Firewall
Try deleting the cache, cookies, and preference files (plist) associated with the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
    Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Now here:
    ~/Library/Preferences
    Click Go
Move these files from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    com.apple.appstore.plist
    com.apple.storeagent.pllist
    Now here:
    ~/Library/Cookies
    Click Go
Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Empty the Trash, try the App Store.

Did you try to open teh fle by double-clicking its icon? If the file was made with an older version of Office, you may get that message. Try opeing PP and, from its "File" menu, see if you can open the ppt. I've foundthat often gets around that message and then yo ucan save the file from the newer version.
If that doesn't work, consider asking in the Microsoft Office: Mac forums here:
    Office for Mac forums
PowerPoint is not an Apple product and it seems a lot of people around here avoid Office.
