SOAP over TCP using Oracle 10g

Hi everyone
I am currently working with a client and they have recently upgraded a legacy DB from Oracle 6i to Oracle 10g and now wish to be able to provide some functionality of this legacy system as a web service to their other J2EE n-tier applications.
The Oracle 10g and J2EE applications sit securely inside a corporate network. As such it would be preferable if service calls to the 10g database could be exposed using SOAP over TCP as opposed to using HTTP to speed up performance a little bit.
This is a baby step, point-to-point, SOA solution that they wish to implement before progressing to a more managed solution (eg ESB) in the future.
As I am not an Oracle expert I would like to know if this can be done and if so is it a trivial or complicated thing to achieve?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Hatchman,
As Eric described, Oracle does not support SOAP over TCP yet. If your goal is to improve the performance, I don't think you'll gain substantial performance improvement by bypassing HTTP layer. Although it depends upon the nature of the service implementations, typically the bottleneck lies in xml processing not in the transport layer.

Pyounguk

  • Slow first connection using Oracle 10g xe and Visual Studio 2008

    {noformat}
    Good day,
    I'm slightly unaccustomed to using forums, so bear with me.
    My initial connection to the Oracle database takes approximately 30 seconds. It seems to be waiting for a connection before timing out and trying another connection which works, as all subsequent connections work immediately. I'm unsure how other people's responses in forums can help me due to the plethora of configurations, so here's mine. My comprehension of the oracle world is still growing, you'll have to explain the terms you're using for me, Hoping you can help.
    I'm using Visual Studio 2008, set to use 32 bit debug mode, on a Windows 7 Pro platform. Also using Oracle 10g Xe, and have installed the 32 bit version of ODAC 11.2 (11.2.0.1) to aid making a connection from Visual Studio to Oracle.
    I have a database set up and a user with system admin rights. This is all local for a programming project and will never see the light of day outside of my personal machine.
    I am using code to connect, not the GUI. I wish to code this project completely without the aid of the GUI. so my connection string within Visual Studio C# is (pw/id hidden)...
    string xe = "Data Source=xe;User Id=xxxxx;Password=xxxxx;";
    OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection(xe);
    My c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora file is this:
    # sqlnet.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP, TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT, ONAMES, HOSTNAME)
    And my c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\TNSNames.ora file is this:
    tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = xe)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <machine name)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    Just for good measure, my tnsping xe shows:
    "Used paramter files:<br/>
    c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora<br/><br/>
    Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias<br/>
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521)))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = xe)))
    OK (0 msec)"
    So, how can I make that initial connection faster so I don't spend 15 years testing my application due to slow start-ups? :)
    Thank you.
    Kevin.

    I have formatted my hard drive since my first post. I was running window 64 bit with a higher version of the ODAC and that proved to crash my machine with faulty error messages about memory. I have reverted to a previous version of the ODAC tools and everything works very smooth now. Still the connection time is consistently 20 seconds or longer on the first attempt.
    Just a little more information.. I am currently taking a college course with 15 other students, as you can tell by the impersonal machine name, where programming using visual studio 2008, and Oracle 10g xe is expected. All of us are using a 64 bit environment and we all have difficulties cutting down the load time of making the first connection to Oracle. Some people are longer making the connection, but none are shorter.
    One other note. After the first connection is made, taking 20 or more seconds, and is closed, all subsequent openings of the connection are instantaneous, for all of us.
    If there is ANYTHING more I can get for you, please let me know. With my environment stable as it is, I will not need to format or change any information for the foreseeable future.
    Here is the information you requested
    1 The connection method I am using, I have chosen the manual connection for you, however the delay exists if the connection is made through the GUI as well.
    Historically, I am getting slow connection speeds through adding the connection through the GUI or by a manual connection. Here is how I am doing it manually. I have the connection being created in 20 seconds, which is the best I can get.

    I fought for weeks about the ODAC version 11.2.0.1 that you see in the previous post, and that would be a whole new thread. Suffice it to say I have a reliable environment to program in with this 10.2.0.1.0 version that I am running now, and the connection time has not changed, it is still minimum 20 seconds load time, sometimes up to 25.

  • SOAP over JMS with Oracle tool chain

    Hi,
    is there an easy way to create a webservice with SOAP over JMS for Oracle Application Servers?
    Are there any tutorials, docus or examples?
    Any hint is appreciated....

    I found a first step...:
    In JDeveloper i created a "new..."-> "Webservice->JMS Adapter"
    This created a complete wsdl:
    <definitions
    name="MySOAPoverJMS"
    targetNamespace="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/jms/MySOAPoverJMS/"
    xmlns="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/"
    xmlns:tns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/jms/MySOAPoverJMS/"
    xmlns:plt="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2003/05/partner-link/"
    xmlns:jca="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/wsdl/jca/"
    xmlns:pc="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/" xmlns:imp1="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/db/DBAPP/ADDEMPLOYEES/"
    xmlns:hdr="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/jms/"
    >
    <import namespace="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/jms/" location="jmsAdapterInboundHeader.wsdl"/>
    <types>
    <schema xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" >
    <import namespace="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/db/DBAPP/ADDEMPLOYEES/" schemaLocation="ADDEMPLOYEES.xsd" />
    </schema>
    </types>
    <message name="InputParameters_msg">
    <part name="InputParameters" element="imp1:InputParameters"/>
    </message>
    <portType name="Consume_Message_ptt">
    <operation name="Consume_Message">
    <input message="tns:InputParameters_msg"/>
    </operation>
    </portType>
    <binding name="Consume_Message_binding" type="tns:Consume_Message_ptt">
    <pc:inbound_binding />
    <operation name="Consume_Message">

    </input>
    </operation>
    </binding>
    <service name="MySOAPoverJMS">
    <port name="Consume_Message_pt" binding="tns:Consume_Message_binding">

    These mcf properties are safe to remove.-->
    <jca:address location="eis/Jms/OEMS" UIConnectionName="OEMS" ManagedConnectionFactory="oracle.tip.adapter.jms.JmsManagedConnectionFactory" mcf.ConnectionFactoryLocation="java:comp/resource/OEMS/TopicConnectionFactories/TCF"

    </port>
    </service>
    <plt:partnerLinkType name="Consume_Message_plt" >

    <plt:portType name="tns:Consume_Message_ptt" />
    </plt:role>
    </plt:partnerLinkType>
    </definitions>
    But this contains no SOAP definition, so that i cannot use this with "new..."->"Webservice->Java Web Service from WSDL" to create the java code...
    Any ideas?

  • SOAP over TCP/IP

    Hi,
    Has anyone implemented SOAP over TCP/IP sockets instead of using a web server? Does JWSDP support this?
    Any information and pointers on how to implement this is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    WSIT, which is built on top of JAX-WS supports SOAP/TCP. You can get wsit from http://wsit.dev.java.net

  • To create standby database using oracle 10g standared edition

    my producation database is oracle 10G standard edition .Can i implement a oracle dataguard or standby database using standard edition licenses.if standby database is possiable in standard edition .what are the steps for creating a standby database using oracle 10g standard edition.

    General answer is http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/editions.htm#BABJICBB.
    For Data Guard you cannot :
    - use instance parameters to automatically send archived redo logs
    - use instance parameters to resolve archived redo logs gaps
    - create a logical standby
    - use SQL statements to do switchover / failover
    - use Data Guard Broker.

  • TNS configuration needs ocijdbc11.dll : I want to use Oracle 10g client

    I configured apex-config.xml to use a TNSNAME. I deployed the APEX listener in a standalone OC4J 10.1.3.5.
    It asks for ocijdbc11.dll to be in -Djava.library.path.
    This means an Oracle 11g client is required. Why isn't it possible to use an Oracle 10g client installation? Is there a way to use an Oracle 10g installation in combination with the OC4J APEX listener?
    I do'n't want to use the "thin" methode because this cannot be used in an Oracle RAC environment as far as I know (at least not with failover).

    Hello,
    as far as I know, you can use the thin driver to connect to RAC. If I don't remember this wrong, you should be able to configure the URL like this:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(LOAD_BALANCE=on)
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=host1) (PORT=1521))
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=host2) (PORT=1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=service)))Just my personal opinion: If you want to use a "fat" client, it shouldn't be too hard to install a 11g client. Of course, this will require additional space on your app server, but I like the thought that Oracle tries to keep the APEX Listener a lightweight application that works pretty good for most scenarios. If you try to make it compatible with every option and every version, this wouldn't stay that way.

  • Using Oracle 10g XE on Windows 7 64-bit

    After successfully installing Oracle 10g express edition on a windows 7 64-bit system several problems occurred while using it. I like to share the problems I encountered and the solutions I have found.
    IE8 problem
    When opening the Oracle database homepage in Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) 32-bit version and after login everything works fine except when clicking on the “Object Browser” icon a page not found (HTTP error-404) occurs. With IE8 64-bit the error doesn’t occur. I didn’t found the cause for this, anyone know why?
    ODBC problem with Data Source Administrator
    The Oracle ODBC driver is located in C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN\sqora32.dll and is registered as a 32-bit driver. But the default ODBC Data Source Administrator only shows the 64-bit drivers that’s why you don’t see the Oracle ODBC driver in the driver list. The solution is to start the 32-bit version of the ODBC Data Source Administrator. You can find this version in the location %windir%\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe. The default 64-bit ODBC Data Source Administrator is located in %windir%\system32\odbcad32.exe.
    ODBC problem using Access 2003
    When trying to use a created ODBC connection in MS Access 2003 an “ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified” error occurs. The cause is that MS Access 2003 is located in Program Files (x86) and this name is in the pad string used in the ODBC connection data. The Oracle TNS can not handle the ( ) used in Program Files (x86). The solution for this is to copy the msaccess.exe file form C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11 to a different folder without using ( ) and use that file to start Access.

    After configuring XE on Windows 7 , if you are getting a TNS connection error , try the following.
    1) In the ODBC connection , enter the TNS service name as localhost:1521/XE , where XE is my service name mentioned in my tnsnames.ora. This should solve the connection issue and can access the database using the sys user id.
    Note : Each time you reboot your machine , the following need to be done.
    (i) Navigate to C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN
    (ii) Locate the exe file LSNRCTL.EXE and run it with administrator privileges ( right click asn select run as administrator )
    (iii) enter stop ( e.g LSNRCTL > stop ) and wait until it is successfully completed
    (iv) Turn-off the Wireless ( if ON)
    (v) enter start ( e.g LSNRCTL > start ) and wait until it is successfully completed
    (vi) Navigate to All Programs --> Oracle Database 10g Express Edition
    (vii) Run the "Stop Database" as Administrator and wait for the successfully completed message.
    (viii) Turn-on the Wireless and wait for few seconds.
    (ix) Navigate to All Programs --> Oracle Database 10g Express Edition
    (x) Run the "Stop Database" as Administrator and wait for the successfully completed message.

  • ORA-22275 writing BLOB using Oracle 10g

    Am trying to INSERT a record including a BLOB. Using Visual C++ 6.0, Oracle 10g, and Oracle ODBC Driver.
    Setup calls to SQLAllocStmt, SQLBindParameter (for the BLOB, only), and SQL_LEN_DATA_AT_EXEC all are ok as far as can be told. (Return code is zero.)
    After setup calls, call to SQLExecDirect returns -1 (error with info) and the info is error ORA-22275 (invalid LOB locator specified). (Was expecting 99 (SQL_NEED_DATA) to start feeding LOB data.)
    This same code ran under Oracle 9i, but fails under 10g. Did not even rebuild the code.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

    This was resolved in the latest 10g ODBC driver (10.1.0.3.1)

  • Problem with type 4 driver using oracle 10g

    HI,
    I am unable to establish a type 4 connection with oracle 10g.
    Specs:
    Driver used: OracleDriver that comes with the ojdbc14.jar along with oracle 10g
    JDK used: Tried using both j2sdk1.4.2 and using JDK 5.0
    JRE: Again, JRE that was shipped with j2sdk 1.4.2 and JRE 5.0
    OS: Windows XP sp2
    I am able to compile the following piece of code, so there is no classpath problem, etc.
    When I try to run the program, the exception thrown is "No Suitable Driver"
    There is no problem with the TNSListener, etc...even if all Oracle related services in 'services.msc' are Started/Stopped, the error remains.
    I am, however, able to establish the connection using type1 driver.
    Please Help!

    class Test
         public static void main(String args[]) throws SQLException, ClassNotFoundException
              TestConn obj = new TestConn();
              obj.testConn();

    The JDBC URL should include the database SID. For example, if the database SID is Orcl
    connection = DriverManager.getConnection("oracle:jdbc:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:Orcl", "scott", "tiger");
