Software update failed for iLife apps

A few weeks ago Software Update brought up some updates for iMovie HD, iDVD, and Garageband. These 3 updates always end in an error, and Software Update closes. I've tried each of these individually, the same always happens. Other than ignoring these updates, is there anything I can do?

Hard to say if this is a receipt problem, from a bad install.
Download the 3 updates from apple.com/Support/Downloads. Then, got to Library/Receipts (main Library), and remove the receipt that applies to just one of the applications. Best to do this to one at a time.
Now, after you finish, or maybe before, this might be a time to Repair preference.

I am running 10.6.7 on a 2.8GHz MacBook Pro.
I am having difficulties getting software update to load the newest updates for iTunes 10.3.1 and AirPort Utility 5.5.3.
When I run the update gui I get the following error:
It downloads the requested update, starts the install and then gives the message:
'None of the selected updates could be installed. An unexpected error occurred.'
I then tried some google hints.I tried installing it from the command line:

Then I tried to delete the software update Cache:
me ~>% cd
/Users/me/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/
me ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate>% ls
Cache.db
me ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate>% rm Cache.db
Rerunning, gives the same error message.
'None of the selected updates could be installed. An unexpected error occurred.'
I can not seem to locate the Software Update log file to look for errors.
I'm currently at a loss of what to try next. Any advice would be appreciated.
I've tried installing it both from my own account and as root.

FYI
/private/var/log/install.log shows no errors from latest update and /Library/Logs/Software Update.log does not exist.

Software update failing for clients

I have a Software Update server with unmanaged clients pointed to it. It's been running great for about 6 months, however recently client systems are having problems installing the 7.3.2 iTunes update. On the client side, Software Update will either crash or will fail with "A networking error has occurred: requested range not satisfiable (-1014)." Running "softwareupdate -i -a" returns "Package failed: requested range not satisfiable". So seemingly there's a problem with this particular update package on the server, but I'm not able to find this update in the /etc/swupd/com.apple.server.swupdate.plist.
Any recommendations on how to find and remove this update, then re-mirror it?

I had this exact same problem on several clients. In my case, for some reason the download -MUST- have been corrupted. Graphically, the softwareupdate service mentioned that iTunes was partially downloaded (3%)...
So I deleted the software update cache on one workstation
@ /var/root/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
At this path because I had ran the command, 'sudo softwareupdate -i -a'
and on a different workstation @
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
At this path because I had ran the graphical update utility, obviously without, 'sudo'
Either way, I deleted the cache, restarted the workstation, ran the softwareupdate check again and it installed iTunes without a problem. Give it a shot.

Software update failed for 7.1. An error occurred downloading ios

Any suggestions? I've tried everything on this forum. It's not specific why it's not downloading. I have enough space and am using iphone 4S.

If at all possible, use iTunes on a PC or Mac to download and apply the update. WiFi downloads on the phone can be screwed up by the slightest loss of signal

I've been trying for 2 weeks to update my iPhone 4S (7.0.6) to iOS 7.1 OTA but it fails all the time...telling me software update failed..I need some support pls!!

The problem occurres after the downloading is complete and when its in "Preparing Update" procedure and specfically in its last progress (near the end). Suddenly a message pop ups saying that "Software Update Failed" \n "An error occured downloading iOS 7.1."
I've restarted the update process for the 20 th time!!! and reset my iphone twice to factory settings, but still nothing change, same error occures...
My iPhone specs
Version : 7.0.6 (11B651)

I have the same problem with my iPad mini. I have done almost all updates of my iOS devices OTA.
I never update issues before.
Also iPad 2 and iPhone 5 just worked fine.
Only now my iPad mini struggles with the update. Did a factory reset too.
And now have iOS 7.0.2 (11A501) on an iPad Model MD543FD/A.
World prefer OTA instead of iTunes.

You can't use your computers Internet connection to update your phone from the phone itself. If you want to use the computers Internet connection to update your phone you must update it through iTunes.

That is true - I apologize for not being specific - what I was mainly referring to is iLife applications. I have a notice on the App Store that says 3 apps need updates, I look at the apps and they are huge so since my connection is so slow I use my work connection and d'load the files from support to my Windows machine and carry them home, once d'loaded my MacAir states it cannot install, the update must come from the App Store.
I do the same thing for large Leopard and Lion files and I can install them without error, it is just the App Store files that the system stops.

The Early 2011 MacBook Pro shipped with Snow Leopard, so these are not the Mac App Store versions of iLife, they are the boxed software versions.
If they are in an iWork '09 folder take them out and let them loose in the Apps folder. Then reindex your HDD.

Software updater fails to connect to server. How can I fix?

Software updater fails tp connect with the server. I have tried a restart and checked network connections and internet access. I have no problems connecting to internet, App Store and iTunes Store. Help!

If you know what downloads to look for you get them from support.apple.com. For example the 10.6.8 combo update v1.1 can be found here.
The probelm is knowing what to look for and that's why softwere update comes in handy even if you don't want to have it do the downloads. What's probably going on was that the servers looked by software update were either temporarily down, or as mentioned above, overloaded. Wait a while and try it again.

I have been trying to get the latest software update on my iPhone 4S 16GB for a few days. All of my apps are closed, iTunes version is current, and no other apps need updating. I am on WIFI and I just backed up my phone again; however, the software update will not work. The "estimated time remaining" fluctuates by random amounts as it tries to update as well (it may say 1 minute, then 15 minutes, then 2, then 8 - regardless of what the blue progress bar shows).
Here is the error message I receive: "Software Update Failed. An error occurred downloading iOS 6." Throughout the day today, I've also received a message stating, "cannot find update" - or something similar (I can't recall it verbatim).
What is causing this? Please help with detailed instructions. Thank you.

Dont know if any one has had this issue but I could never update iOS on my ipad2.
IT has ios5.1.1 and every time I try to update to ios6 it gives me software update failed error.
THe software was downloaded fine and it did try to install but no luck.
ANy help on this pls.

Still getting "Software Update Failed" when attempting to download iOS 7 on iPhone 4S.

I've tried countless times now to download iOS 7 on my 4S which is currently running iOS 6.1.3. It downloads completely then in the "Preparing Update..." stage it gives me an error box saying "Software Update Failed. An error occurred downloading iOS 7.0." The same thing happens every time, I've rebooted and reset my pone several times as well as logging in an out of my Apple ID all with no success. It's not like it takes an unusual amount of time downloading or anything, and once it finishes downloading it shows less storage in the "About" section in "Settings" but goes back to where it was once it gives the error message. Just a note, I was able to download iOS 7 on my iPad 3 the day the software was released without a long waiting period or any hassle. I appreciate any input. Thank you.

Thanks for the response. I have 16.5 GB of available space at the moment. I've tried it connected to a wall charger and connected to my wifi, my schools wifi, and my gyms wifi all with no success. I have not tried it from iTunes but after posting this question a few suggestioned discussions came up, one of which recommended backing up to iCloud or iTune and then performing a complete restore. I'm in the process of doing that now, whether it works or doesn't work I will get back to either way. Thanks again.
