Software Update times out

Hi,
I have OS X 10.8.2 installed on my Imac 20" mid 2007 with an intel core 2 duo 2 ghz, with 4GB of ram. For whatever reason when I click on the apple > software update, it opens the Mac App Store, and then automatically goes to the updates page, but from there nothing loads. It just spins for about 5 mins or so, and then times out on me. Any ideas to help remedy this would be awesome. If I need to give more info just let me know what you need to know and I'll be happy to provide this.
Thank you,

  • Software Update Times Out OS X 10.3.9

    Hi,
I recently did a reinstall of OS 10.3.9. Everything works flawlessly except for Software Update. "Internet Connection Timed Out". However everything else including Safari works and can connect without a problem. I downloaded a majority of the updates from the Downloads site and tried to run Software Update once again. Got the same results. Can anyone help me with this it is starting to get very frustrating.

Instead of doing the software update on-line, download (this option is selected in the Menu of the Software Update window) the update and install off-line. And download only one update at a time.

  • Ipod Software Updates Time Out

I have the 7.2 iTunes software and the 1.1.1 ipod version software. There is 1.1.3 to be updated and I have tried in vain to update but EVERY time I do the download times out and i'm unable to get it. I have dial up but I can download songs most of the time so what could be wrong?? I called Radio Shack service since I bought it there and their technical support group could only come up with resetting the ipod (which i've done) Anyone have any ideas?

You are not adressing Apple here. We are just users like yourself.
I had no problem. Is Settings>General>Time&Date sent to autommatic?
How far off were the date and time?

  • Mac App Store works fine for buying/installing new software, but times out when looking for updates. Help?

I just got a (lightly) used Mac Mini as a second computer (2010 model). Logged into Mac App Store with my Apple ID and tried to check for updates...received "An error has occurred - The request timed out" message. Was able to go to the main App Store page and download/install OS X Mountain Lion...then tried again and still got the time-out error. Any ideas of what is happening and how to get Software Update to work?

Apps already installed by the former owner of the Mini are associated with that persons Apple iD. You won't be able to update any of those apps using your Apple iD. Those apps will have to be purchased from your Apple ID only.
Apparently the previous owner had not upgraded to Mountain Lion as yet, or you would not have been able to download and install that OS X.

  • Report on the dates and the times that software updates went out to partucular machines

    Hello all,
I need to know if there is a way to report on the dates and times that certain software updates installed on certain machines. I see a report that could be it but it does not show any results. The report that I am talking about is under Software update - Distribution status. When I try to run any of those reports I get no matching records could be found so I guess I have 2 questions.

Yes, I know this is an old post, I’m just trying to clean them up.
There is no report that will show you when a SU was installed on a PC. At best you can use the last change date but they is no reliable for several reasons. As for your second question, I’m not sure what report or category you are looking
at. You will need to provide more details.

  • Apple id was created w/out CC, now I cannot use Software Update w/out CC

Let me start by dispelling any notion that I did not search first for this topic. I did search and found dozens of "How to create ID w/out CC". I do not need to create an Apple ID. I have an ID. The issue is that my ID can't be used for my included iPhoto update. It works like this....
I bought a new Mac Mini. I cannot set up my EXISTING Apple ID because it was created without a credit card, and I want to continue using it that way. I do not want to creat any additional IDs. I don't need to buy anything. When I choose Software Update, it separates the updates based on...
    -- OS updates and
-- Updates for apps that "could" be purchased, but wrere in fact included with the Mac Mini.
When it shows an iPhoto update, I cannot install it because a credit card is required. PLEASE do not try to explain that I can give my credit card number and not buy anythign. I know that. I will not give my credit card number. Let's say I do not have any credit card.
I did manage to download the update directly from the web page and used unpkg to extract the files, moved the files to the correct location, and iPhoto is updated full and perfecly, and works like a charm. The problem is that process did not flush out iPhoto update from the App Store, so it still pops up with the update. How can I either convince Software Update that iPhoto is already updated, or get it to accept my Apple ID without a credit card? I bought the Mac Mini without any credit card, so why can't I update the included software in the normal way?

Sorry, I rarely make an original post, so it may be different for the initial question. For replies, I have about 15 minutes.
Sorry, can't help with the credit card issue. It doesn't scare me, so I've never spent any time delving into the issue.
The Mac App Store has a support link in the Quick Links section. However, I imagine they are just going to tell you to enter your credit card info, but may be worth a try. You may have to aks to be elevated beyond the initial script reader that responds as that is all they likely know.
EDIT: Another thought is to go in and Edit your account in App Store. It may need you to agree to a new terms of use/privacy policy type thing, but when it goes into that mode, it hangs on asking for credit card info. Again, not sure, but maybe worth a try.

  • Safari slow loading, iTunes and System Update time out

The other day I found that Safari started taking a very long time to load pages. Yet, Firefox loads pages normally. Then, I found out that my iTunes podcasts were not being updated. The error states that the network connection timed out. Trying a Software Update, i sometimes get that there is a network problem. During all of these problems, Mail and Firefox continue to work fine.

It appears that iTunes and Safari are working at my work place. At home and work, I use the same airport settings but have different vintages of airports. So, it is either a problem with my ISP at home (cox.net) or airport. However, another laptop computer didn't have these probelm. So, I am still confused as to the source of the problem.

  • Ignored updates in Software Update time limited?

Is there a finite time that an update will be ignored? The reason I ask is because an application I set to ignore a couple of months ago keeps coming back.
I set iTunes updates to be ignored but when iTunes 10.1 was released several weeks ago, it showed up as an available update. I told SU to ignore iTunes updates again, but today iTunes 10.1 update appeared as being available again. How can I get iTunes to ignore updates for certain applications until I decide to reset my ignored updates?

    Try this:
    Fix for Software Update
See Troubleshooting Automatic Software Update in Mac OS X.
    Delete the following files:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.xxx.plist
    "xxx" is a number.
    /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/ (delete entire folder)

  • Network update time out

I've been trying to update to iOS 5 but when I try to update I keep getting a message that the network connection times out.  Any suggestions as to how I should update?
    Thanks

Update your itunes to 10.5.2.11 , stop your antivirus/firewall during the update.
Try it now. If you will get the same problem, post.. Good luck.

  • Update time out -1001

hi im in australia and im trying to update my Osx. i get the sorry timeout error -1001 message everytime. can anybody help me?

I agree - 3G is just a bit slower in term of packet round-trip times. What is amazing that I have no issues whatsoever on Firefox even with the biggest files. I suspect that they have a higher time out setting for a server response.
My question would be: what timeout do I need to change? And how can I change it?
    Thanks for your help!

  • 'Download Only' option under 'Tools' in Apple Software Updates grayed out.

I'm trying to convert audio files in iTunes into rigtones. Followed all steps but can't see the m4r version back in iTunes. Tried selecting Download Only (Start -> All programs -> Apple Software Update -> Tools) but this option is grayed out. How do I fix it?

Hi. Thanks for this. I already do what you suggest, but not all the indicated updates are available by download. There was a Bonjour update that was not listed in Support/Updates for example.

  • Downloading 2.2.1 update times out and error message

Trying to download 2.2.1 update. It says it will take 2 hours (about 220 MB). Then about 45 minutes into download it says session has timed out. Check network connection or try again later.
Anyone know how I can remedy this and complete download?
    Thanks!
    Charlie

Another question. When it says "try again later". Would the download be faster if I tried in the middle of the night when/if the apple site is not so busy? Or am I totally off the mark and that has nothing to do with the time issue?
Is 2 hours normal for the 220 mg 2.2.1 download? Is there a reason the connection times out after 45 minutes of a 2 hr. download? Is that the apple site doing the time out or my ISP?
Sorry for all the questions. There are apps I want to download that need the 2.2.1 and I am only at my buddies house with WiFi on the weekends.
    Thanks,
    Charlie

  • Mac OS X Software Update Wiped out my Wireless!

Hello everyone- Perhaps someone can help me. I currently connect my G4 tower to the internet via a Sonnet Aria Extreme PCI card, to my Linksys Wireless G. In addition, I also connect my Powerbook G4 via its own built in Airport card. All has been great until 2 days ago, when I installed the update for OS X 10.4.8 The laptop still connects fine, but now the tower cannot connect. When I click on the Airport logo on the top bar (now grey, not black), it shows the option to join "linksys" as always, but now I get "There was an error joinging the Airport network linksys". If I launch Safari and open Network Diagnostics, and follow the prompts, it asks for the WEP password for the linksys network. We never had or assigned a password. Anyone have any suggestions? I have repaired my permissions after the update (not sure if that matters), but thats about the limit of my knowledge with this stuff. I'm sorry if I left out any important or key details. Any help would be great. Thanks a million guys!

It looks like the Software Update Helper is crashing. I've logged a bug at http://radar.apple.com: 7408619.

  • Ios 5 update time out

Just bought a new Ipad 2 and am trying to update to IOS 5 but it continually times out before the complete 700+MB has downloaded.

Many thanks. The firewall/virus strategy didn't help, but going to the link you provided did. I downloaded the IOS5 via my browser and then did a restore on my ipad while holding down the shift key and directing Itunes to the downloaded file. Initially I tried to do it by hitting update - didn't work. I should have read the instructions more carefully.
