Solaris 10 / ZFS Parameter for Continuous Write Loads

I have been spending some time working on tuning continuous write load tuning on a Solaris 10/ZFS based system. One of the issues I observed is a drop in throughput every several seconds. Removing the fsync() calls from JE (you would never want to do this normally) smoothed out the dips in throughput which pointed to IO issues.
My colleague Sam pointed me at this discuss-zfs entry. And indeed, adding
set zfs:zfs_write_limit_override = 0x2000000
to /etc/system (with the fsync() calls put back into JE) does in fact seem to smooth things out (0x2000000 = 33MB). Of course, you'll want to adjust that parameter based on what size of on-board disk cache you have.
One way to get a rough indication of whether this is a potential problem is to use iostat and see if there are IO spikes.

then do a format -e and add partition data that matches c1t0d0s2 (I know fmthard is supposed to do this, but zfs boot is a strange beast that straddles the old fdisk and new EFI labeling, and fmthard may not have been updated correctly). Then try the zpool attach. If this succeeds, make sure you do an installgrub on the second disk so it will boot.

Does SAP support Solaris 10 ZFS filesystem when using DB2 V9.5 FP4?

I'm installing NW7 (BI usage). SAPINST has failed in the step "ABAP LOAD due to the DB2 error message
"Unsupported file system type zfs for Direct I/O". It appears my Unix Admin must have decided to set these filesystems as ZFS on this new server.
I have several questions requiring your expertise.
1) Does SAP support ZFS filesystems on Solaris 10 (SPARC hardware)? I can not find any reference in SDN or Service Market Place? Any reference will be much appreciated.
2) How can I confirm my sapdata fielsystems are ZFS?
3) What actions do you recommend for me to resolve the SAPINST errors? Do I follow the note "Note 995050 - DB6: NO FILE SYSTEM CACHING for Tablespaces" to disable "Direct I/O" for all DB2 tablespaces? I have seen Markus Doehr's forum Link:[ thread|Re: DB2 on Solaris x64 - ZFS as filesystem possible?; but it does not state exactly how he overcame the error.

Thanks for your input.
I have also found the command "zfs list" that would display any ZFS filesystems.
We have also gone back to UFS as the ZFS deployment schedule does not meet this particular SAP BW implementation timeline.
Has any one come across any SAP statement that states NW7 can be deployed with ZFS for DB2 database on Solaris SPARC platform. If not, I'll open an OSS message.

Migration from Netware 6.x NSS to Solaris 10 ZFS

Hi,
I am looking at Solaris and ZFS as being the possible future of our file store for users.
We have around 3TB (40million files) of data to transfer to ZFS from Netware 6.5 NSS volumes.
What is the best way to do this?
I have tried running utilities like richcopy (son of robocopy) , teracopy, fastcopy from a Windows client mapped to the Netware server via NCP and the Solaris server via Samba.
In all tests the copy very quickly failed, rendering the Solaris server unusable. I imagine this has to do with the utilities expecting a destination NTFS filesystem, and ZFS combined with Samba does not fit the bill.
I have tried running the old rsync client from Netware, but this does not seem to talk to Solaris rsyncd.
As well as NCP, Netware has the ability to export its NSS volumes as a CIFS share.
I have tried mounting a CIFS share of the Netware volume on Solaris...but Solaris as far as I am aware does not support mount -t smbfs as this is Linux only. You can mount smb:// from the Gui (Nautilus), but this does not help a great deal. I was hoping to run maybe Midnight Commander, but I presume that I would need a valid smb share to the Netware volume from the command line?
I really want to avoid the idea of staging on say NTFS first, then from NTFS to ZFS. A two part copy would take forever. It needs to be direct.
BTW..I am not bothered about ACL's or quota. These can be backed up from Netware and reapplied with ZFS/chown/chmod commands.
A wild creative though did occur to me as follows -
Opensolaris, unlike Solaris, has its CIFS kernel addition, and hence smb mounts from the command line (I presume), but I am not happy running opensolaris in production.So maybe I could mount the Netware NSS volume as a CIFS share on opensolaris (as a staging server), copy all the data to a ZFS pool locally, and the do a send receive to Solaris 10.......
Maybe not...
I suppose there is FTP, if I can get it to work on Netware.
I really need a utility with full error checking, and that can be left unattended.
Any ideas?

Bu unusable I mean that the mapped ZFS Samba drive to the windows workstation died and was inaccessible.
Logging onto the solaris box after this from the console was almost impossible. There was a massive delay. When I did log in there appeared to be no network at all. There were no errors in the smbd log file. I need to look at other logs to find out what is going on. Looking at the ZFS filesystem some files had copied over before it died.
After rebooting the Solaris box I then tried dragging and dropping the same files to the ZFS filesystem with the native windows expolrer interface on the windows client. This worked, as in the Solaris box did not die and the files were copying happily (until I manually stopped it). As we all know Windows explorer is not a safe unattended way to copy large amounts of files.
This tells me that the copy utilities on Windows are the problem, not native windows copy/paste.

Answered this question. I found I had turned off open directory on the master to see if it would rebuild on turning on and got distracted. So this error actually means. "there is no open directory mastre on that machine you idiot" - me that is. so I am now back to error from last night from my upgraded one so the problem appears to be on the OD master.

So I am now going to backup my OD master using terminal command
slapconfig -backup <filename>
then destroy the OD master and try to creat a blank new OD master and then try to create a replica of this and then see if I restore whether I can link up then. There does seem to be a message that flicks up whn starting the OD master suggesting it is having difficulty connecting to a replica - which may be its old ones. so I wonder if removing replicas before migrating might have been a good idea.

For Thunderbird users who have to use Nuance Dragon – have they found version 13 of Dragon incompatible and unusable?

I wonder how many Thunderbird users with poor eyesight who are forced to use Nuance Dragon are finding that it is not compatible with the latest version 13 of Dragon (confirmed without offer of help by Nuance). Versions 12 & 12.5 worked perfectly for dictation and Thunderbird.

The only function of Dragon (but for me with AMD, a major one) which does not work for me in version 13 is that it will not print my dictation, or use any commands associated with dictation. In all other respects, it works normally with commands like "Click Send", "Click File, Click Exit", "Click Write", etc., but simply, no text appears when I dictate. So to use Thunderbird I have two always call up the Dictation Box, which is a nuisance.
Somebody in Nuance must have made a simple mistake when upgrading from version 12.5 to version 13, a mistake which only involves this tiny area in Thunderbird, so I just cannot understand why they cannot check it out and correct it. Previous versions of Dragon where superb with Thunderbird.
When I sent them a complaint, they simply replied saying they were sorry for the inconvenience, but that Dragon version 13 was simply incompatible with Thunderbird. End of story no offer to investigate or help – I just wish there was an alternative company with a similar product, and I would switch instantly!

Import Log shows Incompatible version of Workspace Manager Installed

I did an export of my DB using oracle 10.2.0.3 in Windows 2003 R2, I am trying to import the DB in Oracle 10.2.0.4 on Windows 2008 Server.
Question 1
I am getting the following error message
IMP-00003: ORACLE error 20000 encountered
ORA-20000: Incompatible version of Workspace Manager Installed
Is it safe to continue the import? Do I need to do any post import configuration to solve the above error message.
Question 2
I have few notes in the log which states, is it because of the above error message or can I ignore these notes
Note: table contains ROWID column, values may be obsolete 0 rows imported

Evening all,
I am trying to import a tag library into my web project but I keep getting the error "Incompatible versions: Tag library is version 1.2, project version is version 1.1".
I am using IBM Rational Application Developer as my IDE, Tomcat 5.0 as my target server and I'm compiling my code with SUNs 1.4.2 JRE.
I created the tag library as a java project and my web site as a dynamic web project in IBM RAD.
If anyone can tell me why I'm getting this error message and, if possible, how to fix it I would be very grateful.

I just installed Nokia OVI Suite for my N97 and after reboot my PC, i tried to open OVI Suite but it gave me following error;
"There is an incompatible version of Nokia PC Suite installed on your PC. Please, uninstall it, or upgrade to recent version of Nokia PC suite.
Then re-install Nokia Ovi Suite(PC Connectivity SOLUTİON 8.15)"
Then I uninstalled all Nokia PC SUite and OVI and only installed OVI and reboot the PC again I got same error even I don't have PC Suite anymore.
Then I installed latest version of PC Suite and reboot the PC and again I got the same error.
I'm using Win XP Prof 2002 SP3.
Can you help me how can I fix this problem?
