Solaris 9 and ARP request

Hello
my server is sending a lot of arp requests "who is ..." at first sight it looks quite ok, but ttl in arp cache is set on 20 min, but my server doesn't care he after getting an answer "...ip.ip.ip.ip is et.et.et.et.et.et..." is still asking " who is...."
is it ok?
and another wierd think: - maybe I am not smart enough but - shouldn't those two commends give the the same (+-) answers:
# arp -a
# ndd -get /dev/arp arp_cache_report
thenks for help

  • Interfacing with Solaris IP/ICMP and ARP

    Hi,
I am writing a sample driver that interfaces with Solaris IP, ARP and ICMP.
    1. I want to get the routing table information from IP from kernel. Is it possible via some standard interfacing?
    2. I want to get the ARP entries from ARP cache or send arp requests .
    3. I want the ICMP module to generate some error messages
Can these be achieved from the kernel?
Any info in this topic would be of great help.
    Thanks,

    What was the solution?
I am trying to intercept arp send/replies
on the standard ethernet driver. Is this possible?
Perhaps you can help me with some code.

  • ARP and RARP request in Java

    Hello,
I'd like to send ARP and RARP request in Java, but I don't know how to.
    Thanks for help.

Potentially you can find the RFCs for ARP and RARP and then code the functions at the socket level. To be a real pal, make the code into an open source library when you're done.

  • STB Sending ARP requests every 9 minutes

IS there a particular reason that I keep getting ARP requests from the STB even though it has been assigned an IP?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

So there is no way to route that correctly?
I mean, I havent blocked any of that traffic.
I used to use a different router with my old service and well you guys supply one.
Since I have a new router now, I wanted to check how well the firewall was set up and if there was any automatic anti-spoofing on the router or if I had to set it up myself.
So with feeling insecure I turned my personal Outpost firewall back on on my computer.
Which is catching that as a spoofing attack of course.
But now my question is, couldnt that traffic be routed appropriately?
IT doesnt seem like a big deal, just a little messy.
And this thread is easily applying to FIOS INTERNET more and more as we talk.
Form what I get its the STB's looking for the DVR.
What would happen if you blocked that info coming across the bridge or routed the info appropriately vs blocking it.
Does it have to come across the bridge and if so why?
Form the looks of things I could definitely keep that on the coax side of things vs having it run across the bridge.
My comp recognizes it as spoofing but the router doesnt of course because its all behind the router.
Maybe you could help me further or someone else in defining the design of that communication.
Again its harmless and not a big deal its more curiosity than anything else at this point.

    Hi,
I did a software upgrade yesterday and put ap0610405.adi.gz on the box. But the behaviour didn't change. We also checked the cabling for loops, that's also fine.
We have observed some further things:
The broadcasts are only on the 10.147.0.0 /16 subnet. As this is our local lan backbone we can't change it, I could only shift the frontend into another subnet and route it towards the backbone.
We have another two boxes (CSS11503 with 7.4) with a similar configuration - they also do excessive arp requests in the same subnet, the primary as well as the secondary. But the addresses being arped for are not necessarily the same.
I took some packet traces looking for broadcasts and multicasts that could inspire the boxes to arp for every address they see - nothing, the addresses being arped for are not seen in the seconds before the CSS arp request.
What could trigger arp requests for machines which never accessed or used the CSS services / rules??? I've never seen such a behaviour before...
    Best Regards
    Uli

  • Why the debug arp output the follow imformation "IP ARP throttled out the ARP Request for 10.170.254.13"

In the network, sometimes,I can't ping some servers, the getway is in the switch 4507,if I connect my computer in the vlan what the servers in,I will not ping the getway successful, and the computer can't learn the getway's MAC.In the same time I debug arp in the 4507,the output is :
"Jun 20 07:36:21.225: IP ARP throttled out the ARP Request for 10.170.254.46
Jun 20 07:36:21.225: IP ARP throttled out the ARP Request for 10.170.254.13
Jun 20 07:36:21.227: IP ARP: sent req src 10.170.252.30 b838.6168.3c7f,
                     dst 10.170.252.82 0000.0000.0000 Vlan252"
If I reload the 4507,I could ping the getway ,and the servers.
I think it's ARP attack, the machine who was the question one  is  send a lot of ARP request ,that let the 4507's ARP cache full ,and than overflow. My computer wants to request the getway's MAC ,the message is discard.SO my computer can't ping the getway.
Can someone tell me, am I right? It's very important for me.
and tell me ,how can i do ? I'll wait online.
    thank you very very much.

Have a look at this document for troubleshooting ARP throttled issues

  • CSM reporting failed ARP request

    Hi!!
We have a CSM on Catalyst 6509 SUP720, the IOS is 12.2(18)SXD7b.
We have a problem with load-balanced portal servers with the CSM. Checking Catalyst log we see the following messages:
Jun 7 06:17:42.145 UTC: %CSM_SLB-6-RSERVERSTATE: Module 4 server state changed: SLB-NETMGT: Server [ip address] failed ARP request
Jun 7 06:17:43.505 UTC: %CSM_SLB-6-RSERVERSTATE: Module 4 server state changed: SLB-NETMGT: Server [ip address]now responding to ARP requests
Jun 7 06:19:23.445 UTC: %CSM_SLB-6-GATEWAYSTATE: Module 4 gateway state changed: SLB-NETMGT: Gateway [ip address]failed ARP request
Jun 7 06:24:12.241 UTC: %CSM_SLB-6-GATEWAYSTATE: Module 4 gateway state changed: SLB-NETMGT: Gateway [ip address]now responding to ARP requests
At the begining, the message were on refer to failed ARP for the real servers, but now the CSM reports failed ARP request on the Gateways (Vlan Interfaces) too.
Any idea?? We don?t now if the problem is the network, or is the CSM Card or the IOS version.
The Catalyst 6500 is on Distribution Layer, connecting 4 Access switches (Enterasys) and 2 Core Cat6500 switches. The balanced servers are on a Access Enterasys N7 Switch.
    Thanks in advance...
    Pedro

Hi Gilles, thanks for your quick response.
But, as well as the problem with missing ARP?s, we have very slow responses and sites pages are shown with missing objets every time we point to the CSM virtual address with 2 internet proxi servers on a CSM Serverfarm, while if we point to the Real IP Address of any proxi-sever, all is fine and fast.
Now we are pointing directly to real servers (not to the CSM virtual), and all is fine, but it is not the final idea.
It sounds like a problem with the Channel betwen the CSM and the Switch.
We made traces monitoring the PortChannel 260, and we saw very ARP request but just a few replys.
Is very strange that also the CSM is reporting missing ARP?s on Gateways, because this gateway is an interface Vlan into the MSFC!! The only way to disappear the log missing ARP messages is configuring static arp on CSM.
    What you think about?.
The version on CSM is 4.2(2)
    Thanks!!
    Pedro.

  • A question about ARP request?

Does a device refer to its ARP table to send ARP reply when it get ARP request?
Sent from Cisco Technical Support Android App

    Thanks for all the replies.
However, actually I wannted to know that when ARP request/reply packet is encapsulated, how it happen and what is reffered to.
For IP packet, ARP table is reffered to look up the IP packet's destination MAC address to encapsulate the IP packet into Ethernet frame.
I know ARP is a protocol used for resolution of network layer addresses into link layer addresses, a critical function in multiple-access networks, but I am just wondering if ARP request/reply itself also refer its ARP table as ARP looks protocal for Later 3, network layer.
Say, there are Host A, Host B and SW1 on the same local network, and let me explain ARP process untill the Host B sends ARP reply to Host A.
    Host A
    1. Host A ping Host B
    2. Ping process creates an ICMP Echo Request and IP packet is made by the Echo Request.
    3. Destination IP of the IP packet is in the same subnet, and is a unicast IP packet.
    4. ARP process on the Host A looks up the IP packet's destination MAC address from its ARP table to encapsulate the IP packet into Ethernet frame, but it is not in the ARP table. So the ARP process try to send ARP request after buffering the IP packet.
    5. ARP process creates ARP requet.
    6. The host A encapsulate the ARP request packet into Ethernet frame with FFFF.FFFF.FFFF for its destination MAC address.
    7. The Host A sends out the Ethernet frame .
    SW1
    8. The SW1 recieves the ethernet frame.
    9. The frame's source MAC address does not exist in the SW1's MAC table, so the SW1 adds the MAC address to its MAC table.
    10. The SW1 sends out the frame to all ports in the same VLAN except the receiving port as the frame's MAC address is FFFF.FFFF.FFFF.
    Host B
    11. The host 2 recieves the frame and decapsulates it.
    12. The decapsulated frame is ARP request packet, so the ARP process on Host B processes it.
    13. The Host B determines that the destination IP address in the ARP request packet matches its own IP address, and adds the IP to its own ARP table.
    14. The Host B creates ARP reply packet.
    15. The Host B encapsulates the ARP reply packet into Ethernet frame.
    16. The Host B sends out the Ethernet frame.
So again, what I want to know are between item number 5 and 6, 15 and 16.

  • Nexus-switches issues no arp-requests.

    Hallo all,
I see a very strange behavior on my two nexus switches.
Both are Nexus 5548 with L3-daughter-cards. Both do l2 and l3-switching, ACL-filtering and other things. Furthermore I have a set of servers connected to both switches in a vPC-setup. All in all I do nothing special.
After reloading the primary switch (vpc-primary, root-bridge for all vlans and hsrp-active with preemption for all SVIs) the switche comes back online and after getting up all links and reconverging everthing the network breaks. After a lot of debugging and curses and connection tries and a few additional gray hairs later I have got it to work by pinging all ip-addresses from the switch that I have previously rebooted.
Later I do some tests to find out what was going wrong. I found out that if I clear the arp-cache I will get the same issue. Pinging from server A in one subnet to server B in another subnet doesn't lead to success, because the switch issues no arp-requests. To make it work just ping server B from the switch and all works fine. The switch does arp, the arp-table is updated and the pings from the server A will reach the server B.
    Any ideas?
    Regards
    Thomas

    if ( ( buf = (char *)malloc(10 *sizeof(char))) == NULL)
    exit (1);
size = sizeof( buf );The size you get here is the size of buf, which is the size of a pointer, not the size of what buf points to. sizeof(*buf) would give you size of a char, the type (not the object) that buf points to.
There is no portable way to find out the number of bytes allocated on the heap if you are give only a pointer to the memory. You have to remember the size some other way..
strcpy(buf, "HelloWorld");A literal string consists of the characters in the string plus a terminating null, all of which are copied by strcpy. You allocated 10 chars for buf, but are writing 11 chars into it. At this point, the program has undefined behavior. Literally anything at all could happen, because you can't predict the effect of writing outside the bounds of allocated memory.
    printf("\n Address is : %u String is : %s size :
    e : %d ", buf, buf,size);
if (( buf = (char *) realloc(buf, sizeof(20))) == NULL)The "sizeof" operator in this case is returning the size of the type of a literal 20, which is an int. If you want to allocate 20 bytes, you write 20, not sizeof(20).
    exit ( 1);
*(buf+10) = 'A'; *(buf+11) = 'B'; *(buf+12) == '\0';SInce you can't count on buf having more than 4 bytes at this time, you are writing into unallocated memory, with undefined results.
    printf("\n Address is : %u String is : %s\n", buf, buf);
    free( buf);
    exit( 0 );
Instead of asking why you get different results on different platforms, you should be asking why the program doesn't crash on all platforms. :-)
You can avoid these problems with keeping track of allocating memory by using the C++ standard library instead of trying to manage low-level details yourself as in C code.
The standard string class, for example, extends itself as needed, and ensures that heap memory is freed when the string object is deleted or goes out of scope. You don't need pointers, malloc, free, or sizeof to use C++ strings.

  • BUGS and FEATURES REQUESTED. Please add to it.

I've been using the z10 for the past couple weeks and wanted to start a thread of comprehensive Bugs and Features Requested.
I've labeled Bugs by letters (A,B,C...) and Features Requested by numbers (1, 2, 3...) so that others can add sequentially.
    BUGS
(Not listed in any particular order)
(A.) Contact App adds current date as birthday. When I edit my contact, the current date gets listed as the birthday in local contact.
(B.) Duplicate telephone numbers listed. Telephone numbers show up twice in my Contacts (e.g.., if I have the contact's cell saved in (000) 123-4567 format and the person has the number listed in Facebook, I get a duplicate entry of +10001234567).
(C.) Telephone numbers and emails are not actionable in Web pages. In webpages, I can't click on telephone number to call (e.g., I look up a phone number for a restaurant). I should be able to easily call or copy into the Phone App or E-mail App.
(D.) Auto capitulation for words on the word substitution list is wrong. For example, when the word substitution contains more than one word. I have "ru" change to "are you" but if the first letter is capitalized (R) then both words become capitalized words (Are You). I used to have shortcuts like "mysig" to create email signatures with legal disclaimers but I can't do that now.
(E.) Backspace delete doesn't work consistently. The Shift+Delete function seems only to work after moving the cursor. This feature is the Alt+Del action to delete words after the cursor.
(F.) All Emoticons do not list. Emoticons do not all fit on the the two screens (lists) of emoticons. I.e., two columns are missing from view and can be seen when sliding (swiping) between the lists. Also, sometimes when I select an emoticon, it doesn't correspond with the picture of the one I intended. I believe this error is related. As a separate note, there should be a way to see the underlying symbols of the emoticon. (Often times, other people don't have BlackBerrys so I'd like to know what symbols would be sent--my prior 9800 would show the characters as i scrolled through them).
(G.) BlackBerry keyboard doesn't always work in input fields. E.g., certain Web pages. (I found a work around; two finger swipe up from the bottom makes the keyboard appear)
(H.) Sent messages stay unread. This seems to be an issue when an app sends an email (e.g., share article). The email with the sent indicator (checkmark) stays bold and I have listed 1 unread email. I can't mark as read/unread but if I delete the sent email, my unread message gets cleared.
(I.) Contact already added but I get the option to add instead of view contact. For some contacts, I get the option to add to contacts in the action menu cascade when that person is already in my address book. This bug is for emails and text messages.
(J.) Cannot call from text message. When I hold a text message and select call under the action menu cascade, the OS opens up the phone app but doesn't call.
(K.) Composing messages by name. When composting messages, the input must be by first, middle and last name. It should be, instead, by string and include nickname. E.g., if the person's name is "Andrew B. Cameron" I must type the name in as such. I can't type in "Andrew Cameron" or "Andy Cameron."
Features Requested and Suggestions for Improved User Experience
    (In no particular order)
    1)      Option to reply in different ways from the Call List. Be able to select a name in a call list and have options to call, text or email the person. The action menu allows calls to other numbers but I can't choose to text or email the contact instead. Sometimes, I missed a call and want to reply via text because I’m not able to talk. (Long hold on the Torch 9800 trackpad button brought up the action menu allowing me to call, text, view history, add to speed dial, e-mail, delete, etc.)
    2)      Option to reply in different ways from the Hub. Related to above, when selecting an item in the hub, have the option to contact the sender or caller with multiple different ways.
    3)      Only show number once in contacts application. Tap on the number to bring up the "action" cascade menu with options to call or text the number. Why is the same number listed twice (once to call and below again to text it)?
    4)      Timestamps for individual text messages. I can't tell exact time on individual text message if it comes in near the time of another text. All messages are in one "bubble."
    5)      Ability to select MMS or text for a message. Sometimes I write a text longer than 160 characters and I prefer it to be sent in one message (i.e., MMS mode) rather than being broken into one or more standard text messages. I had this ability with my 9800.
    6)      Send button should be moved for text messages!!! Why the heck is it right underneath the delete button?!? Or next to the period button? I often times have accidentally hit send when composing text. It's very annoying and embarrassing. (Also, what happened to the ability to hit enter for a return carriage to next line?)
    7)      Bigger magnifying glass. My finger is often over the area I need to place the cursor. I find it difficult and erratic to place the cursor.
    8)      Select all option. Add the option to select all text in action menu cascade.
    9)      E-mail recipients and message headers. Difficult to tell if you are one of many email recipients. Can we have a way to pull the email down to see the list of recipients rather than have to click to expand the header info? I know this request is a little picky, but that's how it was done in the previous BlackBerry OS which I preferred; it is easier and faster to pull the e-mail down and 'peek' to see which e-mail box received the message, message status, from and to fields. This change would be consistent with BB's flow/peek rather than click.
    10)   Browser navigation. Hold down back arrow to get a list of recently visited websites similar to a desktop browser.
    11)   Dark/Night mode. A night mode (maybe in the drop down menu) to change all the white and bright backgrounds to black or dark which would be helpful when reading/viewing things at night in bed/etc.
    12)   Number of contacts. Ability to see how many contacts I have.
    13)   What happened to groups or categories? I'd like to have back the ability to filter or see categories and also a way to contact everyone in a category. E.g., family or friends or coworkers, etc.
    14)   Shutter sound mute. I was at a wedding and wanted to take pictures during the ceremony but the shutter would was too loud.
    15)   East Asian Language Input. I bought my parents two Samsung Galaxy S3 phones over the weekend because they need Korean input (and the Kakao talk app). (BTW, S3 is a great phone but I prefer the Z10 after having the weekend to use the Android phones).
    16)   Ability to freely place icons on the homesreen. Currently, icons are forced top left-right-to-bottom. I prefer to space my icons out.
    17)   Add a contact to the homescreen. I'd like to place a shortcut (similar to a Webpage) to the homescreen for a contact which will open up the contact. Android allows this feature and so did my previous 9800.
    18)   Search Contacts by nickname. The contacts app doesn't allow me to search by, e.g., Andy, even if I have that as my contact's nickname. The previous OS allowed this type of search which was very helpful.
Finally, as a note, I've been using the BlackBerry Z10 for the past 2 weeks and it's a great platform. I just bought two Samsung Galaxy S3 phones over the weekend for my parents so they could use the Korean language input and related features so I spent a lot of time with the Android platform, setting it up and teaching them how to use it. The S3 is a great phone too.
I prefer, however, the way BlackBerry has done their OS 10 and the integrated management of messages.
It's too bad that BB doesn't have Korean input and apps like Kakao Talk or I would have considered it for them.
The BlackBerry 10 is a great platform and I look forward to the continual improvements that will only make the experience better.

    This is a great post.
I couldn't have written it myself better.
I'm also in dying need of Korean input as I can't communicate with my Korean friends.
    But I second every point.
I hope the tech teams are reading this.

  • Difference between customizing request and workbench request?

    Hi ,
What is the difference between customizing request and workbench request?
    please reply.........

    HI,
    <b>Workbench Requests</b>
When you change a Repository object of the ABAP Workbench, a query window appears in which you need to specify a Workbench request. You can only save the changes if you have assigned the object to a change request.
Workbench requests and the tasks assigned to them are normally used to record changes to Repository objects and Customizing for all clients. However, you can also include client-specific Customizing.
Whether the changes to Repository objects are transported depends on whether a transport route is defined from the current SAP System for the package of these objects. From the system settings, the system automatically determines whether the change requests are transportable and to which target system they should be transported.
    <b>Customizing requests</b>
Customizing requests record client-specific Customizing settings made in a single client (the source client of the request).
Automatic recording of configuration activities in the Customizing work for a client can be activated or deactivated for each client with Client Control. If automatic recording is active, a query window appears when you change Customizing settings, asking you to specify a Customizing request.
Whether Customizing requests are transported or not, does not depend on the objects entered, as is the case with Workbench change requests. The Customizing requests in an SAP System (or in a client if you use Extended Transport Control) are either all transportable or all local, depending on the system setting. The system uses the standard transport layer to determine automatically whether the change requests are transportable and to which target system they should be transported. However, you can change this manually.
    pl reward if it helps.
    Thanks
    Sadhu Kishore

  • What are the optimal values for mac and arp timeout values

    Hi Guys.
What are the best values for "mac address-table aging-time" and "arp timeout" by following scenarios?:
    - single sg300-10 as layer3-switch with a maximum of 10 local (direct connected) hosts
    - and a 3750x-stack with 100 local hosts + hsrp with a other stack of the same sort
or for asa 5520 as internet gateway for 500 clients?
I use at the moment a mac aging-time from 300 seconds and a arp timeout from 3600 seconds.
    Is this o.k.?
    Thanks.

    Marvel.
As far as enhancing the CLI, it will of course be enhanced when new firmware releases provide new features. As far as making it more IOS-like, best to my knowledge, no.  The only other supported CLI on the SB switches are on the SX500 series and SX200E series which the CLI are all consistent. If you bought a SX500 series the commands are nearly identical minus the different feature sets.

  • Difference between task request and change request

What is the difference between task request and change request during sap implementation. In general how many tasks will generate during a normal company inmplementation by any functional consultant?

    Hi,
Change request and task request are same. But generally change request is generated during newly created objects or reports that are transported and task request is used when u regenerate the change request by modifying that object again and transporting it in new change request.
A particular change request may contain multiple number of task request but that number depends upon number of objects u transfer during generation and transportation.
Pls do reward points if ans is useful.

    Suhas.
