Solid texture synthesis (from 2D to 3D)?

I read a Ph.D thesis from MIT. The author constructed a kind of method to do the solid texture synthesis from 2D image of particle sections to generate 3D image of particles. I think he used C++. I am not sure whether I do or program using Labview? if it is possible, can anyone tell me the appropiate way? what about the Vison+VC++?
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot in advance.

I cant access the thesis, however, do you already have the algorithms you want to apply in your 2D to 3D synthesis. I would imagine you would need some sort of visualization engine, and I am not sure whether LabVIEW has that capability.
For example, you when you import a VRML file into LV, it strips out the texture properties of the material in the 3D picture control toolkit.
You can apply a texture on a 3D object by wrapping a jpeg around the object, but that is very primitive to what you are trying to accomplish

How can one remove a raised texture pattern from a scan of the original photo?
Have several wedding photos scanned into PS Elements that were printed by the pro, photography studio on a raised pattern paper. Would anyone know how to remove the honey comb type pattern so that the picture canbe printed flat on glossy color photo paper?
Any help would be greatfully appriciated.
    Thanks,

The best way to remove a pattern is to use a Fast Fourier Transform.  There's a free plugin (as well as examples and instructions) here:
    http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6795661/4N6site/improc/fftplugin/examples.htm
Using the plugin requires editing the individual colour channels, which PSE does not natively allow.  You'll need the reasonably-priced Elements+ addin:

Here's a crop at 100% of the result I got:
The pattern is much reduced.  With some experimenting, you can probably do a little better.

  • Need Music Synthesized from Garage Band 2

Since I know nothing about music, I shouldn't be able to make music with Garage band, correct? I don't even have a manual for it.
Are there people out there who might be able to make some decent music with GB for a video project for a few bucks? Where is the best place to look?

I think the best thing about GarageBand is it allows non-musicians to effectively create listenable and vibrant music with relative ease. Like all the iLife apps, GB is quite intuitive, and once you start playing with it a bit, you'll find a manual is redundant. However, if you like to have the manual, the best bargain (US$8) is undoubtedly a special issue mag put out by "Recording" magazine called "Recording with Apple's Garageband 2: A step-by-step guide." It comes with a tutorial CD as well. This mag fully explains the interface and its usage, gives tips on creating, editing and mixing songs, and gives lots of hints and screenshots.
Other resources are online communities such as this one, macjams.com, and icompositions.com. All these communities have lots of helpful people to answer questions and give tips, collaborate with, or as you suggest, commission.
Like you, I know nothing about music theory and have never taken any kind of music class in school. The only musical instrument I can play is the radio. Yet GB has allowed me to create some worthy music in many different styles.
So I would suggest your presupposition is false. You SHOULD be able to create your own music for your project. All you really need are ears!

  • Creating bg from deisgn with gradiant / textured bg

I am still confused about how to create a bg.jpg file from a design file with a textured or gradiant bg.  Here is a jpg of the PSD design file that was sent to me (bg is the red and textured gradiant).  First, if I import it into FW, the texture disappears.
So, I took a slice from PSD and brought it into FW.  I created a 23x1440 or so file.  Here's the slice I used below.  The  problem is that when I repeat-x, it's wavy and it shouldn't be (see horizontal lines,  etc) on the website.    How do I create bg so it looks like the original design; just textured and gradiant? Designer gave me the texture files  she used if that's hepful.  Thanks soooo much!

If you are importing the desisgn from a PSD and the bg is disappearing, it means that some effect used for the BG is not supported by Fireworks. The default options when openign or importing a PSD are set to maintain as much editability as possible, but this means that the appearance of certain layers/effects may be different.
Check your Import and Open options  from the Preferences panel or when you try opening the PSD and change the settings so effects are flattened on open/import.
I can't tell you which ones to change because I don't have access to your PSD file. You'll need to do some experimenting.
If you want to build this yourself in FW, create your gradient in a rectangle, and then try linking the texture file from the Textures list
Or you could try just adding Noise to the gradient, from the Live Filters menu. A value of 3 or 4 should do it.
Noise, probably like the texture supplied by your designer, is random, though, so getting a decent repeating background tile may be difficult.

  • Feature Request: uploading Textures from StageVideo/NetStream

Right now the only way to currently upload a video texture is to use the non-hardware-accelerated apis, which adds a lot of unwanted processing power when trying to get bits to the video card.  It would be very nice to be able to update texture information from the hardware-accelerated pipeline.
I'm assuming if this becomes possible there should also be an option to not have the stagevideo not be displayed, so maybe it actually makes more sense to update texture information directly from the netstream (what a pain, I know).

We want to do this, because that would be really cool, unfortunatly not enough time in this release.  Thanks for the feedback!

  • Bringing footage in from SxS sony solid state.

Hello, i'm a long time final cut pro studio 3 user who is making the transition.  One thing i notcied, besides all the little things im finding out and trying to figure out is..  When i take a piece of footage off a solid state drive from a sony ex3 card, how do i bring it in as apple pro res 422 instead of the default mp2?  I did a test and run through today after messing around, and notice that when i bring media into premiere pro it transcodes it as mp2 and i want it to be apple pro res since most of our media is raw stock is transcoded that way.

Premiere doesn't transcode media on import.
There is no need, you just edit with the native media files.
The correct way to import media to Premiere from an ex3 card:
Copy the entire contents of the card to an internal drive,
then import into Premiere using the Media Browser.
Import assets from file-based sources with Media Browser

OS X Yosemite is pretty good, but the texture is not good! Please do a texture-change-program. What this is? Its a option in the system settings. What this makes? Its changing the texture. Which texture? From OS X Yosemite and Mavericks. Please change the Mavericks texture! So, that everybody like it! That it looks like the best texture on the world! If you make this, I would be really happy!

  • Graphic animation and texture technique

    Hello Adobe,
I'm wanting mock this graphic within after effects and wondering how I can get this same animation and texture effect from solids or shape layers? Watch video below (5s).
    WIN Television - PRG [2014] - YouTube
    Thank you.

If you mean the graphic then layer your shapes with gradients for fills then add the other elements. Basic illustrating skills are all that is required. Then you just animate the shapes one layer at a time until you get the look you want.
These are the most basic skills. There's nothing automatic that you can just push a button or click the checkbox to duplicate this animated graphic.

  • Missing texture folder in CS4

A CS3 tutorial told me to look in the textures folder for Puzzle.psd but my CS4 photoshop does not have a textures folder. where can I find the Puzzle.psd texture

If you upgraded from CS3, you can copy the textures folder from your CS3 discs to your CS4 installation... but it's a bit tricky.
    1. Create a temporary folder at the root of your c drive.  Ie. c:\temp_ps
    2. Insert your PS/CS3 disc, and copy/paste the following folder...
    AdobePhotoshop10en_US (you'll find it in <dvd drive>:\Adobe CS3\payloads\)
    ...to c:\temp_ps
    3. Open a command prompt with admin priveleges.  (Ie. Right click its icon on the start menu, click run as administrator.)
    4. Navigate to the above folder.  Ie. type: cd \temp_ps\AdobePhotoshop10en_US [press enter]
    5. Unpack the files by typing:
    msiexec /a AdobePhotoshop10en_US.msi /qb TARGETDIR=c:\temp_ps
    6. You will then find the textures folder at the following location:
    C:\temp_ps\program files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Textures
    7. Drop it into your PS/CS4 presets folder
    [program files]\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets
    8. Delete the c:\temp_ps folder.
    ... and you're done.

  • How to create a blank theme with no embedded textures?

    Hi,
I have created a custom theme based on the "White" theme thinking that it was truly blank. But when I save my new theme, I see that it weighs a hefty 11Mb.
After looking in the package contents, I see that there are marble textures remaining from the White theme. These are used on the default charts.
I tried creating new default charts that contain none of the textures but they are still saved with the template. I cannot delete these files directly in the package because I get a "Missing File" error when using the theme. Unchecking "Copy theme images into document" in the preferences doesn't change anything.
My question is: how do you create a truly empty theme with no textures nor images embedded in the package?
    Many thanks for any ideas.

egoes, if you haven't already, you might consult the Keynote User Guide, page 181. The guide talks about how to create new themes, and how to define default chart styles for those themes. The instructions are unfortunately not terribly clear, but it appears that you have to create default charts for each chart type. (I would imagine that the new theme would use old defaults for any charts that aren't newly defined, which would leave in the textures you want to eliminate.)
If you have no luck following the User Guide directions, and size is important, you might instead start with a smaller theme as your base (e.g., Pinstripe is only 3.1MB, and the default graph fill is a colour fill, not a texture). From this you can strip out the background and other graphics you don't want. With just a blank Master with the background removed, this theme is only 612KB. This is likely the easiest way to produce what you want.

  • Copy and Paste gradients from Indesign to Illustrator???

    Hello,
for some reason when I copy and paste an object with a gradient from indesign to Illustrator, the object becomes colorless....What happened to the gradient? I can copy and paste a solid colored object from Indesign to illustrator (and for some reason then, when I copy and paste an object with a gradient from illustrator to Indesign, it acts like a "placed" image....what's that about????)
Can anyone tell me the best way to transfer a gradient swatch from Indesign to Illustrator, without having to regreate it? And why when I paste objects from Illustrator to Indesign, Indesig treats it as a "placed" image (meaning that once you double click on it, the hand pops up allowing you to move within the bounding box, like with an image)
    Thanks...
    Thank you very much

    Hi Jacob,
Thank you for a quick answer. Your suggestion is correct, but saving image to a file is an additional step.
Since I do this task "thousands a day", this is unacceptable
    Any other suggestion?
    Regards,

  • Why does solid black type become screened in my PDF?

I have created a document in InDesign CS3 (5.0.4) on a Windows XP (SP3) system (3 GHz Pentium processor, 3.5 GB of RAM).
This document is composed of solid black text set in the Futura typeface. There is no transparency, opacity effect, or screen value used on the text.
When I export this document to PDF, the sold black text becomes screened to something like 90%. I used "Press Quality" and manually set the color output to "No Color Conversion". I have also set it to convert to destination: US Web Coated. The result is the same: screened text when it should be solid.
I printed the resulting PDF to a Xerox 4510N postscript printer but have seen this problem when working as a pre-press technician working an image setter.
Why does this happen and how do I stop it? Solid black type should print solid black!

From what I can see the text is solid black. There is no border color on the vector fonts, but the fill is black. If you zoom in you can also see it as solid black. You may be seeing a pixel issue, related to the zoom you have set and possibly the line thickness of the font. I am not sure what you mean by screened. If you are seeing something that looks wrong on screen, you might consider the smoothing option on the fonts, particularly if you are on a notebook (they tend to show pixels a bit more).

  • Textures in CS5 Extended

I am pretty  new to photoshop Cs5 and i am not really familiar with where files are inside of the actual program.  I was trying to follow along with a you tube tutorial and it told you to open your "textures" folder and select the "puzzel" texture and when I looked for it there was no folder for textures at all.  The path I followed was .  C/ drive- program files x86-Adobe-Adobe Photoshop CS5-presets- and then tried to find a folder named Textures and there was nothing there.  I have attached a screen print of the folders that are in my presets.  Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I would find this folder?  I am completly lost.  Thank you in advance for any help you can give me on this i really appreciate all of you out there who are always eager to help out us newbies
PS- I am using Windows 7 and if it matters i am using the 32? bit instalation of Photoshop.
I sure hope you can see this attached screen print good enoug.  Also, if you need any other info please let me know.   Thank you.

Zeno is talking about the subfolder within extra plugins package.  The package is delivered as a zip file that contains subfolders.
You will want to copy the Textures subfolder from the extra plugins package to your hard drive into:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets

  • Texture Artists: Auto Save As Type

I have used photoshop for years now. Mostly I do texture's for virtual enviornments. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature that allowed the users to automate saving as different file types from a PSD. Let me give you an example:
    Current Versions:
I am working on a texture for a chair. I have one PSD named Chair.psd that has tons of information in it. Once I finish the texture, I have to goto save as --> targa (it auto renames to chair copy.tga) ---> rename it to Chair_DIF.tga --> save --> select 24 bit --> save. Finally I have it saved. Now I have to change a few layers I have set, or hide some and then save it as Chair_SPEC.tga and sometimes Chair_EMS.tga, Chair_NRM.tga. Once I am done with all that I can test it on the model in 3d... if a change needs to be made, I have to make it and then go through that whole process again. It is very repatative and pointless. Many times I have to do it 20+ times...
    New Feature:
Allow the user to enable a special mode through the main PS preferences designed for texture artists. It adds a new drop down menu next to help labeled 'Auto Save As' or something. When you select it to drop down, it only has one option, 'new'. You hit 'new' and it brings up a dialog of what you want to call the new profile, what filetype, where the file should be saved, and and options the file type selected would normally have. For the filename, you should be able to choose if you want a whole new name, or just add a suffix or prefex to the PSD name. Once youe done, you hit create and it saves that profile to the PSD your working with. This is important, the options should save to the PSD. That way, any time you open up a file, it is automatically set to the save options and locations you want for that texture. From then on, any time you drop down that list, a texture artist could just click Diffuse Map, and it would auto save it to the proper location, filetype, and name. You could create one for anything you want: Specular, Normal, Emmisives, Balding, and so on.
I beg you, please add this option in the next version of PS!

So much love. However, it adds the layer comps index number to the file names on save. I suppose this would be good if you had comps the same name. However, I don't, so I changed the script manually and commented out that code.
If anyone comes across this thread and wants to know how to remove the indexing of the file names, you can open up the Layer Compes to File script in notepad or any text editor and comment out the line:
         fileNameBody += "_" + zeroSuppress(compsIndex, 4);
Simply add // in front of it. So it should look like:
         //fileNameBody += "_" + zeroSuppress(compsIndex, 4);
However, I must warn you, if you do have comps the same name it won't work. It will save over the previous comps that have the same name...
    Thanks again J.
