Texture Artists: Auto Save As Type
I have used photoshop for years now. Mostly I do texture's for virtual enviornments. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature that allowed the users to automate saving as different file types from a PSD. Let me give you an example:
Current Versions:
I am working on a texture for a chair. I have one PSD named Chair.psd that has tons of information in it. Once I finish the texture, I have to goto save as --> targa (it auto renames to chair copy.tga) ---> rename it to Chair_DIF.tga --> save --> select 24 bit --> save. Finally I have it saved. Now I have to change a few layers I have set, or hide some and then save it as Chair_SPEC.tga and sometimes Chair_EMS.tga, Chair_NRM.tga. Once I am done with all that I can test it on the model in 3d... if a change needs to be made, I have to make it and then go through that whole process again. It is very repatative and pointless. Many times I have to do it 20+ times...
New Feature:
Allow the user to enable a special mode through the main PS preferences designed for texture artists. It adds a new drop down menu next to help labeled 'Auto Save As' or something. When you select it to drop down, it only has one option, 'new'. You hit 'new' and it brings up a dialog of what you want to call the new profile, what filetype, where the file should be saved, and and options the file type selected would normally have. For the filename, you should be able to choose if you want a whole new name, or just add a suffix or prefex to the PSD name. Once youe done, you hit create and it saves that profile to the PSD your working with. This is important, the options should save to the PSD. That way, any time you open up a file, it is automatically set to the save options and locations you want for that texture. From then on, any time you drop down that list, a texture artist could just click Diffuse Map, and it would auto save it to the proper location, filetype, and name. You could create one for anything you want: Specular, Normal, Emmisives, Balding, and so on.
I beg you, please add this option in the next version of PS!
So much love. However, it adds the layer comps index number to the file names on save. I suppose this would be good if you had comps the same name. However, I don't, so I changed the script manually and commented out that code.
If anyone comes across this thread and wants to know how to remove the indexing of the file names, you can open up the Layer Compes to File script in notepad or any text editor and comment out the line:
fileNameBody += "_" + zeroSuppress(compsIndex, 4);
Simply add // in front of it. So it should look like:
//fileNameBody += "_" + zeroSuppress(compsIndex, 4);
However, I must warn you, if you do have comps the same name it won't work. It will save over the previous comps that have the same name...

Grab auto-save file type locked by Acrobat Pro?
I have tried using the posted command line in Terminal on both my iBook and G4 (both running 10.3.9) to get Grab to go back to saving screen shots as .jpg's, but it does not work. Ever since installing Adobe Acrobat Pro 6.0.0 both machines are saving screen shots only as .pdf's. In addition (and I have looked through all the AAPro preferences to see if there is something to 'turn off' - there isn't), AAPro has inserted toolboxes into all Office programs and I cannot get this to stop either. I've tried moving AAPro out of the applications folder, but this has had no impact. Any suggestions on a workaround?
Aha! Thanks. "PDFMaker Lib" was the file inside the Office folder. If that does not fix it I will search deeper into the folders for the culprit.
Still cannot switch Grab back to saving as .jpg vs. .pdf, using that command line in Terminal. Any suggestions on that issue? Do you suspect Acrobat Pro is involved due to the fact that this problem started about the same time?

Acrobat Pro puts a file in a folder in the Office
directory that causes the Acrobat Pro tool boxes to

I have a site I do business with. They do not authorize passwords unless you are a dealer. I do not have passwords on an auto save function, as I want to type my passwords in each time for security. My password for this site will only work a short WHILE, AND THEN it will not be recognized by the site and I cannot get in.
Then I must contact the company to reset or clear it manually on their end so it can be reset. They always give me the SAME SETUP PASSWORD to use. I use it, then I RESET PASSWORD on my end. The computer seems to remember my user NAME AT least on my computer as it comes up once I start typing the username in. They SAY IT is a settings issue on my end. I do not have this problem on any other site even THOSE WITH higher SECURITY. I need to FIX the issue OR may LOSE ACCESS To the site as is very aggravating for them and they say other have had the problem but usually with chrome but never constantly.I am not that computer literate ,but my husband is an IT Security professor and textbook writer but says doesn't really know Firefox. I do not really want to store passwords on computer as have been hacked several times. He and I do not understand some of the terms mentioned. since it is not a problem with other sites it should be fixable. Please me help using terms I or my husband can understand without having to give Firefox all my passwords. I would be happy to set up something different just for this one site if I need to but need easy instructions. Have cleared the cookies before but it still happens. What setting do I need to change or set to fix this? the other questions that come up seem very different and do not apply. FF 22 now but happened w other FF versions.I'm having a little trouble understanding the part about your password having to be reset. Why is that happening??
Let's start with Firefox's settings:
(1) You can configure the password manager feature on this tab:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security
There is a checkbox to enable/disable the feature.
There also is a "Saved Passwords" button to review and remove any passwords you do not want Firefox to keep.
That tab also has a feature to set a Master Password so that no one can use your saved passwords without knowing the Master Password. You may need to exit Firefox in order for Firefox to ask for that again.

(2) Site-specific permissions
If you want to use the password manager for other sites but NOT a particular site, you can configure that in the Permissions Manager.
In a new tab, type or paste '''about:permissions''' in the address bar and press Enter.
After the page loads, use the search box in the upper left corner to narrow down the list to the site you want to configure. Highlight the site on the left side, and on the right side, choose Block under Store Passwords.
(3) Form autocomplete suggestions
Separate from passwords, Firefox remembers entries you've made into forms (in most cases) and lists the matching ones below the form field in a drop-down.
To clear a suggestion, press the down arrow key to highlight it and press the Delete key.

Would a 347 MB file be slow? Auto save and auto type turn off?
I am doing an art inventory and add jpegs of the art. I don't resize them they range from 750k to 3MB. I guess if it is slowing the program down i should? It currently is 267 rows by about 18 columns.

I recently changed my password for gmail and needed to replace that with the old one in auto save, by deleting the old from "passwords and auto fill" in safari settings! But now it doesn't ask me anymore to remember passwords ?
I've tried almost all up-to resetting device! But of no vain
Such a hassle to type in passwords again n again, though again I've tried everything ,deleted history rebooted device
But nothing works!!

Upgraded to Lion. Numbers is stalling to auto save after every keystroke. Isn’t auto save supposed to run in the background?
It's supposed to save when the processor isn't triggered by the user. If you type slowly, time between two strokes may be sufficient to allow it to start the save process.

In Message Menu > Preference > Accounts you should at least have the iMessage Account (Which is Enabled) and th Bonjour one that most likely is not.
After that if you had iChat type AIM valid Screen Names or Jabber IDs in an earlier OS then the System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars should list them and have them set to be used with Messages.
There is a vague chance that you have not set these up yet (you can do it in Messages or Mail, Contacts and Calendars)
Once you have a t least one other "Account" other than th iMessage one in Messages then the Buddy List option will appear next to CMD and 1 in the Window menu list.
NEXT
If you go to the General Section of the Messages Preferences you can unlink several Buddy lists if you have them (By default they are shown as one gathered Buddy list)
I Have several Accounts logged in (AIM valid and Jabber ones)

Address Book Auto Save and Jump
When I enter in a new address the program seems to periodically auto save and then the cursor jumps to the note section. If I'm not paying attention I will continue to type in the notes section and then will have to delete or cut and paste. This is really annoying when entering lots of addresses. Explanation? Solution? Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my app. This is my last major stumbling block that I have to resolve for this and other forms in the app.
Actually, I did use the Form Wizard for Auto DML to originally create the form. It was great. It created most of the Buttons, Items and Validations automatically (basically most of the page). I just needed to create some Processes and Computations. Two of which were the Processes to update the 'create_dt' and 'created_by' fields and 'update_dt' and 'updated_by' fields. The Create process updates the fields just fine.
However, my problem seems to be that the Hidden 'create_dt' and 'created_by' fields aren't picking up the values from a record that is being editted. Then when I attempt to save the record those fields are NULL, causing the DB NOT NULL constraint to throw an exception for those fields. In the back of my mind I seem to remember seeing some post stating something to the effect that the information in fields with a Source Type of Database Column is just displayed and does not affect Session State items.
Even with that, I am still wondering just why the 'created_by' Page Item shows the value that is in the DB record being updated, but the 'create_dt" does not (as can be seen in my first posting). It is the 'create_dt' Page Item (:P205_CREATE_DT) not having the DB records 'create_dt' info in it that appears to be the problem.

Is there any chance Photoshop can develop a Auto Save/Cache feature, kind of similar to what Microsoft Word and other programs use?
If you're not familiar, if the program crashes or closes without saving, upon re-opening the program, it gives you a message to recover the unsaved data.
I'm tired of constantly getting crashing glitches in my photoshop program that causes me to lose all the work I've done.
I know the simple solution is to constantly save your work, but when I get into the zone with my work and I start getting on a roll with my artwork, I don't always remember to save.
I can work for a few hours when I get into my zone, and when the program glitches and crashes, all that data, artwork, inspiration and time is lost forever, and it is very discouraging.
I think developing an Auto Save/Cache feature would greatly benefit the program and help artists like me greatly.Noel Carboni wrote:

Configuration commit auto-save filename
We found a couple issues with this command. The first is pretty major. If you do a 'commit' it works as expected and you get a backup copy of your config to your location of choice. Alternatively, if you do an 'end' followed by 'yes' nothing happens. Your changes are committed, but since you did not type 'commit', no backup is generated. Can we get a bug fix for this so that any commits, even if you don't explicitly type 'commit', generate a backup file?
Works:

The other issue is with using this command when your FTP server is on a VRF. The syntax you need is as follows:

What code are you currently on and what code do you plan to move to in the future?
Very few people use the commit auto-save but I can look into this with that development team to see if we can get this enhancement added; I imagine it has to do with the order in which the saving happens.
The reason people don't use the auto-save is because it does not generate a unique name. If that is also something you are interested in I could talk to the DEs about adding a knob for adding the timestamp to the file name.
I'm not in front of a router right this second so I don't recall if there is a keyword for VRF in that CLI string, but I do agree that the ;VRF_NAME is very well hidden in the command docs. I'll talk with the doc team to get this fixed.

'Save as Type' box in 'Save As' dialog box
I recently downloaded 'Rocket PDF' and now if I try to save any PDF. document, the only choices in the 'save as type' box are 'Rocket PDF' or 'All files'. No more 'Adobe Reader PDF. appears as a choice. I uninstalled 'Rocket PDF' and in the 'Default changes' I put 'Adobe Reader as the default to open 'PDF.'. Still, the only choices on the 'save as type ' are 'Rocket PDF' or 'All files'! How do I get Adobe Reader PDF' back as a choice in the 'save as type' box and delete 'Rocket PDF' as a choice?
Sorry I wasn't clear! When I try to save a 'PDF' file the "save as" dialog box opens. At the bottom the 'file name'is listed and below that it says, "save as type". You then pick what file type you want, like Adobe Reader for PDF. It used to say Adobe Reader as one of the choices but when I downloaded "Rocket PDF" it only says "Rocket PDF or "all files" as the only choices to save the document, no more Adobe Reader as a choice. I have deleted Rocket PDF and under 'default programs (Start button) I have set the "Pdf. files to open with Adobe Reader. Rocket PDF is still listed or' all files', nothing else! How can I get Adobe Reader as a choice back in the 'save as type' box?

I've been trying to find an option for auto-save in Logic (and to set how often it does this)... but I can't find anything...
Does it just do auto-save in the background? Or is there no auto-save feature?
It's easy to forget to keep saving in a long session and would be nice to know Logic does it for you!!

the reason is: Logic have a .crash save function...
it works great... (if you don't use 3rd party plugs with false Audio Units validation Pass.

Hi,
Before upgrading to Maverick, I used to sync all my contacts via iTunes.
iTunes used to have an option to "Add contacts created outside of groups on this iPhone to: (drop-down)".
I had created a group called ' RECENTLY ADDED ', so that every time I saved a new number whilst meeting people / networking, etc, it would auto-save to that group. I would then sync via iTunes, and voila- all my new contacts would be in there.
As a marketer, I allocate my contacts into various complicated groups... so from there, I would proceed to move each contact into their relevant group, and then 'delete' from group (not delete completely). I would repeat this step until all contacts were moved out, leaving an empty 'recently added' group.
The next time i was out networking/saving new numbers, the process would repeat...
Now that I have upraded to Maverick and using iCloud syncing, I cannot find this feature.
The previous method I used worked brilliantly, and I do not always have time to add notes, etc (for a smart group) when saving new numbers.
I'm struggling to find a solution now that I'm using the iCloud syncing service...
Any suggestions to make it easy??If the information is in iTunes on the computer you have synced with in the past another sync, being sure you select the items you want on the iphone, should copy those things back to the iPhone.

I've been using numbers for iPad and I accidentally deleted a column. And the auto-save feature saved that and now I can't undo it. Does iCloud storage have backups of saved files from like 10 minutes ago? I have numbers synced to iCloud.
I tried to undo it but the app crashed.
I am hoping there's like a previously saved version of my file in iCloud somewhere.No, iOS does not do short term incremental back ups to iCloud such as you get with Time Capsule.It backs up when you do soo manually, or if set properly, when the device is plugged in and connected to WiFi. It will not have saved your changes as of 10 minutes prior.
