Solution to improve performance (to increas the speed) when opening PDF file with large 3d model?

I insert a large .u3d building model into PDF file(more than 40M .pdf file), very slow when opening it (more than 30 minutes). Is there any way to improve this when creating the PDF file? It is acceptable to reduce the precision of the model shape/color/texture when inserting it into PDF. I think my hardware is OK,THINKPAD 520 with 8G RAM. This is urgent for me. For any solutions or clues, please let me know.
Thanks and best regards.

All of this quite old stuff

in the end, I would try
CAD => PRC
CAD => OBJ => Blender/MeshLab/... OBJ compression => U3D
CAD to OBJ conversion can be done outside but it should be best done within the CAD authoring application (I would leave compression level to a minimum here); I say that because this is what a powerful conversion tool such as Okino states about CAD Data
As mentioned in the "NOTES" above, imported CAD data is most often in a form whereby it mainly consists of triangles, and those triangles can tend to be long sliver triangles due to the "trimming holes" in the source NURBS or BREP solids objects. Also, CAD data tends to have an over-abundance of polygons due to high tessellation of the source data. The Intel MultiRes compression algorithm cannot handle this case of sliver triangles too well (or an overabundance of very small polygons) very well, and hence compression should be reduced or minimized for such CAD datasets. CAD data also tends to have a lot of sharp angular features and thus the "vertex normals" exported and compressed into the U3D file must remain untouched -- too much vertex normal compression leads to a lot of "black banding".
Blender/MeshLab/... OBJ compression is not straightforward; see "quadric edge collapse decimation" in MeshLab but there are lots of alternatives...
(you should try to replicate yourself what the Acrobat 3D Toolkit once did: Optimizing file import for Acrobat 3D Toolkit - YouTube - maybe you can check if Tetra4D tools do it; Tetra4D took over Acrobat 3D business for Adobe)
in the past, I also used Rhino and SALOME to compress CAD to OBJ (SALOME to STL) but I wouldn't recommend this way
MeshLab/SimLab/Okino/... can save OBJ to U3D

That choice is not made by Adobe, but your browser, of which you give no details. 64-bit browsers cannot open PDF files, as the Adobe Reader plugin is a 32-bit app.

  • Could not open PDF Files with Safari using Lion - Solution

    Two for one solution:
After installing Lion on my Macbook Pro, I could not open PDF files on line via Safari and iPhoto 11 kept crashing.
Well, the solution for bothy problems was to remove the "3ivx" file.
The easiest way to do so is go to Applications > 3ivx folder > run Remove 3ivx app.
    OR:
Finder > Library folder > Application Support folder > drag "3ivx" folder to trash and trash.

Does Safari - Help - Installed Plug-ins show anything for pdf other than WebKit built-in PDF ?

  • Open PDF files with lightning speeds !

To open PDF files very fast do this:
Go to Adobe Acrobat installation directory : eg: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\
Cut everything from the "plug_ins" directory & paste it into the "Optional" one, this will stop all unnecessary plugins from loading up automatically whenever you open the PDF files hence speeding the overall application :) Enjoy :-)
    Regards,
    Clive Robertson.

That works great all right, but if you need the plugins then you've got problems.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.05 won't always display the GUI when opening PDF?!

I have come across some odd behaviour with Adobe Reader 11.0.05. In particular, the following issues seem to have surfaced since upgrading to 11.x from 9.x.
Opening a PDF from any application, launches an "AcroRd32.exe" process but the GUI is not shown i.e. you don't see a Reader window or PDF. If you try open the PDF again it will launch another instance of that process and still won't show the GUI. Killing all AcroRd32.exe processes via Task Manager and re-opening the PDF will then work.
Some users are experiencing the following error when opening PDFs via IE and other 3rd party apps.
We've deployed 11.0.05 across a few thousand 32-bit Windows 7 PCs and it's a little concerning that PDFs won't always open. At this stage it is very random, maybe 1 out of 5 times it won't show the GUI but launch the process. Our only workaround is to advise users to kill all AcroRd32.exe processes and try again.
Our packaged 11.0.05 was created as follows:
AIP created from 11.0 msi > AIP patched with 11.0.04 msp (Q) > AIP patched with 11.0.05 msp (OOC). Transform was created using Adobe Customization Wizard 11.
Oddly, this does not occur using Adobe Reader 9.5.5 (or other versions of 9.x).
Sounds like 11.x is buggy, anyone else experiencing the same issues??
    Thanks!

Yes, I am always having problems. Microsoft fixed the problem for me but it has reverted back to a trial I downloaded. I can't access my PDF at all.

  • Does the plugins affect the speed when opening a website??

I did a test, Opened the the website <a href="http://www.zowellforklifts.com.es/ ">http://www.zowellforklifts.com.es/</a> on Firefox and Chrome.
Firefox spent 8.3s, while Chrome 4.1s. Why?
Firefox I installed several plugin, but Chrome none.
Did the plugin affect the speed?
Do I need to test other site <a href="http://www.shlongji">http://www.shlongji</a>:??

If a page has multiple items on it handled by plugins, for example a page loaded with Flash ads, that can certainly affect page loading. Every one of the plugin items must load with the page, so it is slower. If you control which plugin items will load, you can speed up things.

  • Open pdf file with the client's Reader, not in a browser, HOW ?

    Hi All,
I have a web application written in VB in wich  an user can request to open a pdf file stored on the server.
I'm looking for a script that will force the requested pdf to be opened in client's Reader and not in a browser's Reader plugin,
    Thanks, Yan

This is not a problem that can be addressed with LiveCycle Designer script. Designer or Acrobat script has context once the PDF is open, which does not help you. Perhaps a solution can be found in Windows Script Host. I have not touched WSH in a long time but I recall that is possible to do something like...
' Get a Reader instance by ProgID
    Set obj = GetObject(,"AcroExch.Document")
' Check if an instance of Reader is not already running. If an instance is running, create a new instance.
    If TypeName(obj) <> "Document" Then
        Set obj = CreateObject("AcroExch.Document")
    End If
    or
' Start the application (Reader) associated with the file type
    Set obj = GetObject("c:\foobar.pdf")

  • Can't open PDF-Files with the 64Bit Photoshop-Version but with 32Bit Version

    Hello,
our company use Photoshop in combination with PDF-Files. Normally we can open every of our PDFs with Photoshop.
But now we have some PDFs that we can't open with the 64Bit version. If we try it the application crashes.
But we are able to open the same files with the 32Bit version of Photoshop. We assume a bug in the 64Bit Version.
Please contact me to get the a PDF-Sample-File because i am not allowed to append the file to a public space.

  • Why is the size of my pdf file so large

In the templet,I use a font type "Simsun" for Chinese in the subform.
This font type is added in the output desginer by "font setup" .
And this font has been existing in my os.
When I generate a pdf file, the size reaches >6M.

    George Johnson wrote:
Even if you specify Helvetica, Acrobat and Reader substitute a private version of Arial anyway, so all you're doing by specifying Arial is needlessly adding space. The problem is you can't go back and the fields to use Helvetica and see the file size reduction you might expect. This is due to what I consider to be a bug that I'm hoping will get fixed. So you have to start with a fresh PDF, but you can copy the old fields to the new if you first change them to Helvetica. Or if you know how to hack the PDF you can salvage it after changing the fields to Helvetica.
I was JUST about to type this. I went into my revised pdf and changed the form text boxes to Helvetica and it didnt change the file size. However  I re-created the file from scratch and it is now keeping the file size at the original size. Thanks to both of you for the help!

  • When i loaded the latest version of firefox i was no longer able to open PDF files with Adobie.

I up graded to the new version of fire fox .05 and no longer have my PDF open. I use Adobie. On my lap top they open using 04.

You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu if you want to display PDF documents in Firefox with another application (i.e. not the built-in PDF Viewer).

    thanks
    PS
same is any dialog form to open a file.....must be a way to enlarge the icons i hope in the open file dialog from within photoshop rather than another application.

If the paths are open just click the intended end-point with the Pen Tool (P), add a point and delete it again.
