[Solved] Add a single Spanish letter to my non-Spanish keyboard layout

Hi,
I correspond with Spanish speaking people a lot. They have some special letters like accented vocals (á, í, ó and the likes). I can enter those with my deadkeys accent followed by a vocal, even though my natural keyboard layout is German.
The only problem I have is the ñ. I'd love to have this mapped to AltGr+n. This combo is currently mapped to the weird character ”, which I don't really need.
My question: Using LXDE/openbox, how can I best map AltGr+n to the ñ character?
Thanks in advance,
Alex

This sounds like you really want to use xmodmap. If it's just one or two keys, I'd probably just assign them via direct xmodmap commands in your .xinitrc file.
First run `xmodmap -pke`, grepping for the key your want to modify. See the arch wiki page on xmodmap for the level you'll use: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xmodmap
The you can call xmodmap for that single key as a test (example only from my own xmodmap -pke output):
xmodmap -e "keycode 38 = a A Greek_alpha Greek_ALPHA aacute Aacute"
So you could change the Greek_alpha in this case to an uppercase Q:
xmodmap -e "keycode 38 = a A Q Greek_ALPHA aacute Aacute"
If it's just one or two changes I find it easier to use `xmodmap -e ...` in .xinitrc rather than create an entirely new xmodmap file to use.

Impossible to stop people saving copies; PDF files don't stream.
You can prevent printing using PDF encryption but only a DRM-based solution is crack-proof, and even then users can always take screenshots.

  • How do I add a single song from iTunes on a different computer

I have the limit of 5 computers with a single iTunes account.  And I have 5 iPhones and 3 iPads.  All of them use their own library on a desktop iMac back at home in Germany.  However, I travel very often to see family in the U.S.  Today I purchased an audiobook from Audible and dropped it in my iTunes on my MacBook Air that I have with me in California.  I want to ADD just that book to my iPhone 5 so that I can listen to it (the problem could be a single song, but in this case it just happens to be  book).  I don't want to re-sync, I just want to add on book to my other media on my iPhone 5.  All of my devices are marked "Add manually" on the mother iTunes on the iMac at home. But when I try this with any of the other 4 computers I am prompted to erase everything just to add one book.  This is not a piracy issue or a copyright issue.  I clearly own the book and iTunes knows it.  I can download or play new media on any of the five computers.  That's not the problem.  I need to be able to transfer to a portable device.  There should be a way to do this.  I can't think of any legal reason why Apple would prevent this.

Allan ... okay now I guess I am making an issue of it.  I don't mean to be obnoxious, but since you seem to know what you're talking about, let me pick you're brain a little further.
I soon as I try to add the single song or book, I get the message that this device is synced to another computer.  Now isn't it true that iTunes knows exactly what computer it's synced to and that the device is on the same iTunes account that this computer and the other computer are on?  Sorry about the run-on sentence. This iPhone sitting here with me is ONLY associated with my iTunes account no matter what computer it's connected to.  If that computer is also associated with that "Apple ID" account, doesn't that mean that Apple knows that this device must necessarily me "owned" by me?

  • Easy way to add a single keyword to an image?

I just organized a bunch of photos I took at a birthday party, and ran into some <br />awkwardness when keywording.  Hopefully it's just user ignorance, but if not, <br />maybe someone can offer a workaround.<br /><br />I did the import with no keywords, because I wasn't thinking.  Once I'd done <br />that, I selected all images in the "Last Import", hit Ctrl-K, and typed Birthday <br />(which is one of my standard keywords).  Then I deselected all images and <br />started doing selective keywording.  That's where it started getting awkward.<br /><br />I had several shots that had my son in them, so I selected all of them and hit <br />Ctrl-K.  This put my cursor in the keyword box in the right-side panel, with <br />Birthday highlighted.  I hit <End>, then typed comma and MySonsName.  No problem <br />so far.<br /><br />I delselected the shots and selected the ones that had my daughter in them.  The <br />right-side keyword panel now showed something like "Birthday*, MySonsName*".  I <br />wasn't sure whether I could just add MyDaughtersName to the images without <br />actually adding MySonsName to all selected images (even those without my son in <br />them).  That's the awkward part.<br /><br />What I found was that in order to add a single keyword to a bunch of images at <br />once, I had to enable Keyword Stamping and use that.  An alternative was to "Set <br />Keyword Shortcut", enter the keyword, select the images I wanted, and then use <br />"K" to add the shortcutted keyword to the images.<br /><br />Is there any way to simply say "add this keyword to all selected images" in one <br />atomic action?  In other words, hit a keystroke, type the keyword, hit Enter, <br />and it's now applied to all selected images.<br /><br />-- <br />Rob Freundlich<br />"Males ae biologically driven to go out and hunt giraffes." - Newt Gingrich<br />"Some folks you don't have to satirize, you just quote 'em." - Tom Paxton

  • Is there a way to add a single jar to an existing shared library (war)?

    Hello,
Is there a way to add a single jar to an existing and already deployed shared library (war) in weblogic directly?
Basically, instead of building and deploying the war each time a new jar should be added to the list of jars present in the war and deploy it in weblogic, is it possible to make the process more automatic and efficient by just adding the new jar to the existing deployed war (no matter if the consumers must be reloaded)?

Extract the WAR file and rearchive with theJAR file included.

  • Can I add a single app subscription (e.g. Premiere Pro) to my Photographers Package subscription?

    Hi,
I currently subscribe to the Photographers Package for $9.99/month, which I'm more than happy with.  However, now I also want to subscribe to the Premiere Pro app.
Can I just add the Premiere Pro single app subscription to my current plan, therefore paying $9.99/m for the Photographers Package + $19.99/m for Premier Pro?
    Thanks for any help.
    Ste

Thanks for your replies; however, they both contradict each other so I'm a bit confused.
Rajshree - if I purchase the whole creative cloud then I would expect to have access to all the apps, not just two.  But this is not what I want.  Surely, as John T Smith states, I should be able to add a single app subscription to my plan - how else can someone mix-and-match the products they want?
    Thanks again.

  • How to add/delete single role to/from CUA

    Hi All,
I want to add/delete single role from CUA system. I found one FM to change roles i.e BAPI_USER_LOCACTGROUPS_ASSIGN , In function module documentation said that it will overwrites all existing roles with the roles in the table parameter.I dont want to do that. I need a FM to add/delete role to CUA system. Please help me with your suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Suman

I am not aware of another BAPI based way to do it. You will need to get the details of the Roles AND manual profiles assigned, and then re-assign the new set in the call.
    Cheers,

  • Can i add a single 8GB or ram with my already installed 2x2 GB of RAM?

I need to upgrade my RAM. I have the original 2x2GB of RAM installed but want to know if i can add a single 8GB of RAM with the 2x2GB already installed? Please help?

Here is some info; and below that is an excerpt which appears to apply to your model:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423?viewlocale=en_US
Additional notes  i5 and i7 Quad Core iMac computers come with both top memory slots populated. These computers will not start up if only a single DIMM is installed in any bottom slot; these computers should operate normally with a single DIMM installed in any top slot. Core Duo iMac computers should operate normally with a single DIMM installed in any slot, top or bottom. ("Top" and "bottom" slots refer to the orientation of the slots in the pictures below. "Top" refers to the slots closest to the display; "bottom" refers to the slots closest to the stand).
Now I always get confused which slots Apple deems to be the top or the bottom on the newer Macs - they seem to be looking at it from a different angle than I am. Yours is a 2011 - do you still have two rows with 2 slots each? Yours is working and recognizing it; if I remember correctly Apple calls the top what I'd call the bottom when the iMac is laying screen down. In any case, you should be fine as long as it's working.

  • [SOLVED] Add a custom keyboard layout in X

I'd like to discard QWERTY and start using Dvorak. However, I find it may be easier to accustom myself to Dvorak if I exchange its left-hand keys with right-hand ones.
So I want to create a custom keyboard layout. By inspecting /usr/share/X11/xkb, I found there are two methods to specify keyboard layout: by keymaps (seems to be deprecated) and by rules. Both methods will then determine and incorporate keycodes, types, compat, symbols, and geometry.
Of course I can directly modify existing configurations (for example, to change symbols). But these settings will be gone once I update the package xkeyboard-config.
Then my question is: Is it possible to add a custom keyboard layout in the user's home directory in a pluggable way?
Anything about how to add separate keyboard layouts in system folders (say /usr/share/X11/xkb) are also welcome so I can create a separate package which doesn't clash with xkeyboard-config. Thanks.
PS. I know xmodmap-based methods, but I prefer an original layout which can be loaded and unloaded with setxkbmap.

If you use ext, you can use "chattr +i filename" to stop the file from being modified - that way you can make sure your changes don't get lost on the update. I have put a colemak file in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ and can simply load it with "setkxbmap colemak", but I don't really know the magic behind layout settings.
For reference, my colemak file, with polish diacritics:
// Colemak symbols for xkb on X.Org Server 7.x
    // 2006-01-01 Shai Coleman, http://colemak.com/ . Public domain.

  • Using shortcuts on non-latin keyboards - is it going to be solved?

I googled that a lot of people have inconvenience with the fact that keyboard shortcuts become unavailable when switching to non-english keyboard. E.g. after adding cyrillic keyword I need to switch back to english keyboard to go on working with LR.
I saw LR1, LR2, LR3 and LR4. This problem always annoyed users all over the world.
What's the current situation with it? Is someone going to solve this?
I don't want to install plugins. I don't want to map custom keyboard shortcuts. I just want to have shortcuts working on any keyboard layout. Is it possible?

Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.17] and download it to the desktop.
Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to '''Mozilla Firefox''' and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).
Then reboot and delete the folder called '''Mozilla Firefox '''at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.
After you complete the installation, go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page and update those where necessary.
However, before you go that route, here are a few tips to make FF4 look like the previous version.
    * Right click a blank part of the tab bar and click "Tabs on top" to remove the checkmark. Tabs will subsequently reappear below the search bar.
    * Repeat the same steps, but click the top one called "Menu bar". This will reinstate the text links at the top.
    * To rearrange the layout, repeat the same steps again and choose "Customize". A panel will open and while that remains onscreen, you can move elements like toolbars, buttons etc around and place them anywhere you wish. You can also drag anything you don't like into that panel and add anything you want by dragging it out of there.
    * To replace the status bar at the foot of the page, install this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
Firefox 3.6.17 will be supported for a while yet, but will eventually fall by the wayside.

  • [SOLVED] Configure keyboard layout in X using Gnome

Hi. This is my first post since I just installed Arch two days ago.
My concern is about the console KEYMAP. I succesfully configured /etc/vconsole.conf so that KEYMAP=la-latin1 and it works almost perfectly. The only issue I have is that since my laptop was purchased in the US, using a latin american layout made me loose the greater and less characters (> and <), which are kind of essential characters for me and I'm already sick of copy pasting them. So I followed the KEYMAP section of the Wiki
Thing is none of the changes I make are taking effect, which is weird.
For now I'm only trying to get used to how it works so what I've been doing is the following (as the Wiki suggests)
    cd /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty
Copy the keymap (la-latin1.map.gz) to a new file personal.map.gz
    gunzip the new map file
Edit personal.map: here I'm just changing "exclam" for "dollar" for the 1 key to to test if it works before I add the characters I need
    gzip the map file
Change the default keyboard layout file that will be used by editing /etc/vconsole.conf (you might have to create this file) and changing the line that says KEYMAP=la-latin1 to KEYMAP=personal
then I tried using sudo loadkeys personal, also tried rebooting the system and I still get the ! character when I use SHIFT+1 which is weird (because I configured it so i would get the dollar sign)
Later I tried to use localectl set-keymap personal also with no luck
I seriously don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm sure one of you guys will be able to help me since probably I'm making some kind of stupid mistake I cannot figure out. You can be sure it's not something that stupid as exiting the files withouth saving. To be sure I also reopened the files later to check if the changes where saved and they were, both for the vconsole.conf  and personal.map.gz (which I gunzipped to read and then re gzipped).
I really appreciate any kind of help you can give me. THanks!

I have a custom keymap in use on my system because I hate the Caps Lock.  So that and a couple other small modifications were made into wonderwoofy.map.gz.  Using /etc/vconsole.conf works just fine for me.  But I did notice that if I didn't have early KMS that I ran into a race condition with systemd-vconsole-setup.service and the system actually switching the graphics to KMS.
Though my issue might be entirely unrelated to what you are experiencing because I was indeed able to change things with loadkeys (at the time I did this stuff, there was no localectl… or if there was I wasn't aware of it).  Maybe try making some other small change to see if there is something inherently wrong with what you have done in the first attempt.  For example, since this is just for testing, use a more common character like a letter or number to replace something.
I will tell you though that you are not the first person I have heard of recently who has run into vconsole.conf probems.  But the last person I read having such problems was at least able to correctly set their keymap with localectl (though the desired font apparently never took).
