[SOLVED] ath9k_htc not loading

I just built a needed wireless driver (ath9k_htc) from AUR.  I thought that installing it from pacman would place it in the correct location for loading, but after reboot, 'lspci -k' showed the module hadn't been loaded, even though I'd set up a config in /etc/modules-load.d/ to do so. Here's some output from the build http://bpaste.net/show/N2Yl4UPewiLOupTfuYS1/
I'd appreciate any advice to move the needed file to the correct location (if necessary) and what I may have overlooked to get this module loaded at boot.
Reference: backports-patched 3.11_rc3_1-6

First, this driver is in the kernel already, so no need to compile form AUR, especially when what you compiled is older than the current kernel. Second, ath9k_htc is an USB driver, so of course it won't show up in lspci.
Which wireless card do you have? Once you know that (using lspci if it's an internal card, or lsusb if it's an external adapter), you can research which driver you need. Most are in the kernel already and require no special setup.
Yes, it's a Netgear N150 Wireless USB Adapter WNA1100 which requires the ath9k_htc driver and the htc_9271.fw firmware (which I have installed).  My understanding is that there's an ath9k driver already built-in as you say, but that the ath9k_htc driver is different and is meant to support my particular USB device and has to be installed via backports-patched (though, I could be mistaken about that).  I have very limited experience with networking issues (wireless, in particular), so it's easy for me to overlook something.  However, the reason I made the distinction is because that particular module (ath9k_htc) is mentioned on the wiki as needing to be built via the backports-patched package in AUR.
Right now, the module lives at /usr/lib/modules/extramodules-3.12-ARCH/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/ath9k_htc.ko.gz
...and I tried loading it in /etc/modules-load.d/netgear_wna1100.conf both with the line "ath9k_htc.ko.gz" and "ath9k_htc" but it didn't seem to work, though as you pointed out, I checked with 'lspci -k' and not 'lsusb -v' which I'll do now after a reboot (I'm on an XP partition at the moment, which has net access) and then I'll update this post with the results.

There doesn't seem to be any driver information, but I guess it might be safe to assume the correct one has been loaded by virtue of the fact that lsusb showed this info?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • [SOLVED] Cpufreq not loading after reboot

I followed wiki on this ,but after reboot cpufreq is not loading from /etc/rc.conf as module
    This is message on boot

    - Is the governor you requested available and modprobed?
    - Trying to set an invalid policy?
    - Trying to set a specific frequency, but userspace governor is not available,
for example because of hardware which cannot be set to a specific frequency
or because the userspace governor isn't loaded?

  • [SOLVED] Modules not loaded after upgrade linux (3.9.5-1 - 3.11.6)

Hi. After upgrading the package linux from 3.9.5-1 to 3.11.6,
many modules such as wifi or psmouse are not loaded.
My PC is Asus Zenbook UX31E.
If I do by hand like
    # modprobe ath9k
    # modprobe psmouse
    wifi and psmouse are OK,
but I want to set all necessary modules auto loaded.
    * Output of lsmod of linux 3.9.5-1 was 87 rows
but lsmod of 3.11.6 (I attache below) is only 39 rows.
    * Both
    /etc/modprobe.d/
    /etc/modules-load.d/
are empty on 3.9.5-1 and 3.11.6.
    Please give me advice, thx.

  • [Solved] Vuurmuur not loading

Hello,  I am having problems starting up vuurmuur in Arch, I am not sure but I think I did all that I was supose to do but still the dam daemon doesn't start up.
I have installed vuurmuur from the AUR and added vuurmuur and iptables as daemons in rc.conf as instructed, I am having fault status at boot cause of it but they don't show up in /var/log/everything.log or dmesg (how can one easylly see the boot log for faults?)
Running vuurmuur_conf I can solve all the faults except for the daemons.
    Running vuurmuur-initd.sh start I get:
    [root@archbox scripts]# sh ./vuurmuur-initd.sh start
    Starting firewall: Vuurmuur:
        Loading modules:    ip_tables iptable_filter iptable_mangle iptable_nat ip_conntrack ipt_state ip_conntrack_ftp ip_nat_ftp ip_queue
        Loading Vuurmuur:    FAILED.
        Loading Vuurmuur_log:    FAILED.
    Starting firewall: Vuurmuur: done
vuurmuur_conf still says that the daemons are down.
    Any ideas / help ?

Loaded wrong scrip, got the wrong output.
Correct script to load is  /etc/rc.d/rc.vuurmuur and errors log, including the ones that are show during boot, is located in /var/logs/vuurmuur/errors.log.
After running /etc/rc.d/vuurmuur, looking and solving the problems at shown at the log all is up and running.

I ran into your post a number of hours ago while trying to solve the same error message after upgrading, and I'm pleased to say I finally got things working again! I love gnome on that note, but I'm not a fan of how little and non-descriptive the gdm error messages have become...
So once I'd narrowed the issue down to not being exclusive to this release or Arch, I started expanding my searches and eventually found http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=84115, which talks about a bash completion script getting loaded in /etc/profile, so I took a look and while I didn't find exactly that in my own setup, I did have a script in /etc/profile.d that loaded RVM (Ruby Version Manager) with a line that looked like: "[[ -f "${USERHOME}/.rvm/script/completion" ]] && source ${USERHOME}/.rvm/scripts/completion", and after removing the script and trying again to login (without needing to reboot or anything else), GDM logged me in for the first time since the upgrade.
Anyway, I feel your pain and have my fingers crossed it's the same thing for you- either way, good luck!

I see you are from Germany, so have a look at this:

    Translation:
Since kernel 2.6.20.7-2 the modules thermal and processor are directly integrated into the kernel and must/could not be loaded separatly.

  • [SOLVED] GRUB2 not loading on UEFI system

    Hello!
I tried to install Arch Linux on a new Sandy Bridge-system with UEFI, but am not able to boot it from the firmware.
During the installation I choose not to install a bootloader and instead followed the instructions in the GRUB2 wiki page.
After the installation I'm not able to load GRUB2 by selecting the device in the UEFI firmware (MSI's Click BIOS).
It say's something like "reboot and select proper boot device, or insert boot media in selected boot device.".
I am however able to boot the system by running the EFI Shell and loading grub2 by entering the following commands:
    fs0:
    cd efi
    cd grub
    grub.efi
I can then continue to boot arch in the grub console using:
    set root=(hd1,gpt4)
    linux /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sdb4 ro
    initrd /boot/kernel26.img
And arch boots fine. (more or less, but it starts).
I'm not sure why the firmware isn't able to load the grub efi application, while the efi shell is.
I'm now looking for help troubleshooting this issue, since i don't really know where to begin looking.

    Thank you for your response.
I'm not sure what to do with efibootmgr, it is installed and if I recall correctly was run by grub_efi_x86_64-install.
    Anyway, here is it's output:

  • [SOLVED] Xresources not loading

    Hello everyone!
I am running awesome and I want to configure xterm/urxvt to have a different color scheme on startup. After following the indications in the wiki regarding .Xresources, I restarted X and the changes are not in effect. What should I do?
    Some observations:
    * The file has +rx for all:
    4.0K -rwxr-xr-x 1 521 Sep 15 10:40 .Xresources
    * /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc has:
    userresources=$HOME/.Xresources
    if [ -f "$userresources" ]; then
    xrdb -merge "$userresources"
    fi
    * Contents of ~/.xinitrc:
    xrdb -load ~/.Xresources &
    exec awesome
    * If I run "xrdb -load ~/.Xresources" and then fire up xterm/urxvt, nothing is changed.

phoenixRO wrote:Yes, and nothing changed. I suppose it is automatically run by xinit anyway as long as it is there in xinitrc.
Sorry I wasn't precise: you need to open a new terminal to see the changes.
    Run
    xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources
and open a new terminal - preferably from the terminal, so you can see if you get any errors regarding the new color scheme e.g.
    [karol@black ~]$ xterm
error: cannot load blah blah blah

Are you in the Steam Client Beta? I think there was an issue with the latest update that made clients everywhere stop working.
Use  steam --reset to reset your user settings (this won't delete your installed games, only your Steam client settings), then restart Steam and don't participate in the client beta.
I think you could also delete Steam/appcache/appinfo.vdf while being in the client beta, I don't really know if that worked though as I just resetted my settings. More information: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam- … ssues/2841

Yes, if you use .Xresources, and not .Xdefaults, the changed urxvt resource settings have to be sent to the XA_RESOURCE_MANAGER using the xrdb -load or xrdb -merge commands.  The point I had hoped to make is that you either set urxvt resources with one or the other, not both.
    Sidebar:
I actually configure urxvt using a .urxvt file. My .Xresources picks this file up with the line, # include ".urxvt". I find it more convenient to edit many small single application configuration files rather than one big configuration file with settings for many applications.

  • [Solved]Bttv not loading/causing conflict if module loaded

Something strange is going on with bttv.  Today's kernel update doesn't even load the bttv module on startup.  The last kernel was going wackoo if it was rmmod and then modprobe back.  Ivtv is loading and seems to be working as long as ivtv related tools are used.
Last edited by nomorewindows (2014-05-30 13:15:09)

modprobing bttv (manually since it won't do automatically on boot):
    bttv: driver version 0.9.19 loaded
bttv: using 8 buffers with 2080k (520 pages) each for capture
This is all it shows for bttv module while the ivtv modules load normally.
Blank message along with not existing in lspci -- board must not be seated properly.

  • [SOLVED] Php not loading mysql extensions [Merge php.ini.pacnew file].

    Hi guys.
I have bitten the bullet and upgraded to the Apache 2.4 and PHP from testing and solved a 10 tons of post-upgrade config nightmares just to figure out that MariaDB will not work with those versions until recompiled against them. Can we please have MariaDB added to testing repo after it was compiled against the Apache and PHP from testing?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards.

I am not an idiot guys (well maybe I am but...), I would not come here and complain about missing extensions for mysql if I didnt tripple checked they were enabled in php.ini.
    [root@icsserver andrzejl]# cat /etc/php/php.ini | grep -v ';' | grep -i mysql | grep ext
    extension=mysqli.so
    extension=mysql.so
    extension=pdo_mysql.so
    [root@icsserver andrzejl]#
Pierre wrote: How are you using PHP?
FPM/FastCGI  / proxying all the php requests,
PHP is working fine from what I can see.
    And Wordpress spits out:
"Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress."
Which I assumed meant that the mysqld (in this case MariaDB) should be recompiled against php to provide those extensions. Could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.
    Cheers.

  • [SOLVED] Gnote not loading in tint2 tray

After a recent update, gnote no longer loads as an icon in the tint2 tray. It does, however, load the 'search all notes' dialog (thats what executing 'gnote' does now, instead of loading a tray icon..)

I can't find the referenced 'manual faq' though, so I have no idea how to restore the old behaviour.
Its well hidden, the solution is to execute:
    gsettings set org.gnome.gnote use-status-icon true
    as root.
Hope they put this as an option, if not many people will search for an alternative, not everybody reads the code.

Just to clarify, you got this from gnote's source?
Also, I ran that as my user, not root, and it seems to work .

  • [solved] php not loading mysqli

yeah.. php isn't loading the mysqli extension, even though I uncommented the line in php.ini. any ideas what might be wrong?
I also can't seem to get php's logging to work to look at any errors...
the php.ini was being cached somehow.. seems like I have to reboot to get any changes saved.

seems like php is just ignoring anything I set, actually... =/
everything just shows up as 'no value' in the phpinfo()
EDIT: ok.. so I renamed my php.ini to php.bak and phpinfo() STILL shows php.ini being loaded.
