[SOLVED] boot partition does not output on genfstab.

I have installed Arch Linux 5 or 6 times and even had desktop environments. This is a first for this to happen. I do not have a way to copy and paste so I cannot reproduce all code.
I have 4 partitions. They are:  /, home, boot, and swap. This is new for me and I am a bit confused. I did a search and found this, but no luck for me.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=118114
Unfortunately, this is not helping me, or I just do not see it.
The root, the home and the swap partition output normally. It looks like this:
# /dev/sda2
UUID=**************************** / ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 1
# /dev/sda4
UUID=**************************** /home ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 2
# /dev/sda3
UUID=**************************** none swap defauults 0 0
The boot partition is just not there. So i did this:
lsblk -f | grep sda1
and appended the UUID from this output to the fstab and made a new fstab listing.
The boot partion of fstab reads:
# /dev/sda1
UUID=lots_of_alpha_numbers /boot ext4
My questions:
How do I know what options to add for the boot partition?
Why would cause this not to show up?
What options do I put for /boot - the same as / and /home (rq,relatime,data=ordered)?
What order should the /boot partion load? All other installs it did root as 1, home as 2 and boot as 2.
I have installed Arch Linux successfully at least 5 times and never had this issue. So I am wondering If manually adding this is covering up a bigger problem.

I want to make clear what happened. Because I made the same mistake again, it dawned on me what is happeneing.. I went back to the wiki and found that it was there all along.
After creating the partitons I made 2 directories.
# mkdir -p /mnt/boot
# mkdir -p /mnt/home
And here is where MY mistake was...
# mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot
# mount /dev/sda4 /mnt/home
# mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
What happened,  because of the ORDER that I mounted, the mount points of /mnt/boot and /mnt/home were comprimized and because they are subdirectories of /mnt. I got careless because I was getting good at installing Arch without the wiki and because I did not understand a fundemental of the system it was messed up.
I went back after I figured out my problem and saw that the mount and partitons wiki was useful and would have prevented if I was a bit more observent.
It clearly states: "The / (root) partition must be mounted first: this is because any directories such as /boot or /home that have separate partitions will have to be created in the root file system. The /mnt directory of the live system will be used to mount the root partition, and consequently all the other partitions will stem from there. If the root partition's name is sdxR, do:

    Hello, I am trying to upgrade my macbook pro to yosemite, but I get the "disk cannot be used to startup your computer" error.
    Resizing the partition does not work for me and I get the error "MediaKit reports no such partition" probably because I installed linux in dual boot and the disk manager is lost.
    Anyway to tell the yosemite installer that it should not pay attention whether the disk is bootable or not ?
    If I am doomed, any way to delete the installer and downloaded OS from my hard drive ?
    Thanks for your help

    As usual, the Linux installer wrecked the partition table. You would have to boot from your OS X installation disc and repartition. Doing so will of course remove all data from the drive, so you must back up first if you haven't already done so.

    When I boot into the startup manager (hold down alt-key during boot) the XP partition does not show as boot drive. I can boot into XP only through the startup-drive preference pane. This problem is still present after the update to 10.5.2. Any solution besides reformating the drive? Thanks!

  • Build.vi does not output Generated files list for installer

    In LV 2011, Build.vi does not output a "Generated files" list when used on an installer. Example attached. When run on my system, "Generated files" is an empty array and "error out" shows no errors or warnings. The built installer can be found on disk, so I know the build succeeded.
    I critically need to know the target folder for my built installer so I can use it in an automated build tool. Assuming this is a real bug, can someone help me with a workaround that doesn't require an operator to point the VI to the target path?

  • [SOLVED]intel_backlight service does not set backlight at boot

    Hi everyone,
    I have a Dell inspiron 3542 laptop.The problem is that even though the backlight.service saves and loads the backlight value it does not set it.For example:
    xbacklight -get
    outputs the saved backlight value but on screen it appears around 1-5% and only when i change it,it goes back to normal.According to [email protected] manpage"if udev property ID_BACKLIGHT_CLAMP is not set to false value, the brightness is clamped to a value of at least 1 or 5% of maximum brightness, whichever is greater. This restriction will be removed when the kernel allows user space to reliably set  a brightness value which does not turn off the display."
    My Question is how can i set the udev property
    Thank you for any suggestions

    I have to admit that the problem and the question was not well stated.I wanted to override backlight clamping because i thought that was the problem.
    Ill try to post the solution as clear as i can (my english knowledge is not the best) .
    The laptop im using has hybrid graphics(nvidia and intel) im using the open source drivers with i915 and nouveau modules and im using lvm2 dm-crypt setup
    I tried the following
    Recompiling systemd trying to revert this patch :https://github.com/systemd/systemd/comm … ca6c595c76
    Setting -no-clamp option (could not make it right i think) in [email protected] with(could not make it work i think i did not do it correct)
    as stated at http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/s … 27138.html
    systemctl edit [email protected]
    [Service]
    ExecStart=
    ExecStop=
    ExecStart=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-backlight -no-clamp load %i
    ExecStop=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-backlight -no-clamp save %i
    I could not find a way to set ID_BACKLIGHT_CLAMP in udev properties i did not quite understand what it was asking to be honest.
    Solution
    EDIT:1 Adding ENV{ID_BACKLIGHT_CLAMP}="0" in backlight section in /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/99-systemd.rules also solves the issue as the man page says.
    Do not judge these might were completely wrong moves but with little to no knowledge only trial and error could help
    I  could also set the saved backlight at boot by blacklisting the i915 module and leaving nouveau.
    The strange thing is that i915 is still being  loaded while using PRIME

  • My boot camp partition does not recognize inserted discs

    I am running OSX 10.5.8 and have a Boot Camp partition set up with Windows XP.  The Windows partition works fine, but no longer recognizes when a DVD or CD is inserted.  The disc does not appear in the My Computer folder, even though the drive is spinning.  The eject button does not function to eject the disc, and I have to shut down the Windows partition, boot up in the Mac partition to eject or see the disc contents.
    This prevents me from installing any software on the Windows partition.

  • Boot camp does not format the partition for Windows 7

    I recently purchased a copy of windows 7.  This is the full version.  I downloaded the drivers to a usb drive then placed the windows 7 disk in my apple optical drive to partition to disk.  After portioning the iMac restarts and gives the a blank screen with _ blinking.  It seems as though the windows partition has not been formatted.  I cannot enter a dos command such as format or anything else.  If I start up the mac again with the windows 7 disk in the optical drive I will be prompted to insert a bootable disk.  I understand that after the partitioning takes place that bootcamp should start the installation process.  By the way after working on this for quite a long time I decided it might be the copy of windows so I returned it and got another.  Same resuts.  I hope someone can help.
    Thanks

    Read the instructions and it is pretty clear that you format to NTFS where you see the BOOTCAMP partition.

    I tried to repair, but got the same log.
    As the main partition is encrypted, no third party application can access it, repair it or copy file from it.
    Before I give my Mac to TechSupport to replace the hard disk, I would appreciate of doing a useable copy/clone from the partition to get my data saved (I have time machine running, too, but it is not backup up everything and it is hard work to restore from there – so a clone would be best).
    Best,
       Stefan

    I have discovered the solution and it involves an issue I suspected. After the restore of my old Time Machine Lion files to my new MBP running ML, the restore restored my computer back to Lion. After an install of ML, my computer worked perfectly except the fancy Scroll and zoom featured we all love from the trackpad. Ha already installed ML on other partitions and the trackpad worked perfectly on them.  Even the guest login's trackpad worked perfectly but not the main admin account.
    First thought was to create a new admin account and copy everything from the old admin to the new admin and then delete the old admin account. Hated the idea because all files had to be copied rather than moved.
    So what was left to do. I had thought of deleting all the apple preferences from the library and replace them with the contents of the library on another partition in ML. First I deleted old preferences many of which were old Lion preferences. That didn't solve the issue.
    I forgot that Lion and ML HIDE the user library so I was working on the wrong library. Discovered the Terminal command "chflags nohidden ~/Library" and I chose to reveal the user library on a ML partition.
    Solution:
    I booted into another ML partition. I guess that I could have booted into the new admin user account and changed the permissions  to access the old admin users Library But I chose to boot
    from another ML partition: copy ALL the com.apple. XXXXX.plist files and the folder  BY Host. It has special hidden files. Other  way is to copy the Preferences folder we'll say into the Desktop.
    I then proceeded to delete ALL the com.apple…….plist files and the Host folder into the trash. Then I copied all the apple.com…plist files and the Host folder and then rebooted. And now my wonderful Trackpad works as mountain Lion intended it to work.
    I'm leaving this solution because there's someone else in the MacWorld with the same issue.
    Ted

  • [SOLVED] df -h does not reflect true root filesystem size

    Why does df -h show root filesystem as being only 20G?
    df -h

    That is what my df -h output looks like. My setup is full disk encryption using dm-crypt with LUKS, per the guide on arch wiki. I basically created one /boot partition and left the rest of the disk to be an encrypted partition for the root filesystem. So why is my system complaining about (and acting as if it's running out of space)? Have I forgotten something?
    Thank you for reading this. Let me know if you need any more logs or info on my setup - I realise I haven't provided very much info here, but I can't think of what to provide.
