[SOLVED] Can't Find IcedTea7 Java Plugin for Firefox

Hello everybody,
I'm new to Arch (have used Linux for some time but never got too deep into configurations and such). I've always just used proprietary versions of Java in the past, even on Linux, but now that I have a really cutomized Arch box, I'd like to try and support OpenJDK+IcedTea.
I followed the Wiki instructions by installing jre7-openjdk, jdk7-openjdk, and icedtea-web-java7 packages. All I want is to link to the plugin for firefox. However, I don't actually see the .so plugin file anywhere, nor do I know how to see where pacman installs things.
I have a folder /usr/share/icedtea-web/ that contains the files about.jar, about.jnlp, netx.jar, and plugin.jar.
I remember .jar files are Java archives, but I actually have no idea what to do with them or how to use them as I'm not too familiar with Java (but I do run browser applets using the plugin).
I apologize for my noobness in this, but can anybody help me figure out how to find or acquire or extract the .so plugin file for firefox?
Thanks,
Dave

Great, thank you so much! Actually, it was already fixed before I read your reply, but it's still informative (I wasn't sure how to find file lists for pacman packages).
I just removed and reinstalled all the java packages and it worked. I might have done it in the wrong order or something when I did it the first time. I wasn't sure if the web test on the Java website checked for the Oracle plugin specifically or just a valid JRE implementation, but it worked, so I guess OpenJDK is working great so far.

  • Java plugin for firefox

    Hi All !
I hope this is the right forum. I have installed java plugin for firefox
I try the website javatester.org and I get a message saying:
Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running.
If I understand this correct this is not a firefox message but a java message
    so...
I have used the java control panel and added the site to the site list
I also lowered the security settings to medium
Restarted the browser and tried again but no luck, what am I missing ?
    Appreciate your feedback !
    Thanks

  • I can't install the Flash plugin for Firefox

I can't install the Flash plugin for Firefox (Firefox version 1.5.0). I've tried to install the latest version 9.0.16.0 from the Adobe Download Centre. There are no error messages or warnings during the installation.
The Flash plugin for IE is working fine.
I've tried everything, uninstall the pre-installed version (7), re-install FireFox, uninstall all plugins, download and install everything over and over..... still the same problem.

    Hi Stephan,
Thans for your reaction and suggestion.
I've cleaned up the register, deleted all the macromedia and flash keys.
Restarted, installed Flash plugin again, IE is working fine (again) but Firefox (and Opera!) only showing the message "Flash plugin needed" when I try to display a site with Flash content.
I have the same combination working on several desktops, does it have anything to do with te pre-installed software from Toshiba?
I have two Toshiba Sattelite's P100 with both exactly the same problems! Flash on IE working, Opera an Firefox NOT.

  • Java plugin for Firefox and Chromium just not working

    Hi Arch Users
I have been suffering with the IcedTea-Web for a while now. My banking service (in their stroke of genius) use java on there online service. So a problamatic plugin means that I am not able to use the website while on Linux.
The issue is not specific to the bank's website. Doing the following is also problematic:
    1. Go to www.java.com
    2. Click on "Do I have Java?"
    3. Click on Verify Java Version
    4. Chromium does nothing after setp 3, Firefox has a small notification (bottom corner) saying Applet Started but nothign really happens (waited for 20min).
Searching the Forums, showed people with similar problems with an older plugin. An idea I did get was to use the latest branch and compile it. So I changed the PKGBUILD to download the latest using:
    hg clone http://icedtea.classpath.org/hg/icedtea-web
    ./autogen.sh
    ./configure --prefix=${_jvmdir} \
    --datarootdir=/usr/share \
    --with-jdk-home=${_jvmdir} \
    --with-firefox=/usr/bin/firefox \
    --with-chromium=/usr/bin/chromium
So currentely my FireFox reports the IcedTeaWeb as: IcedTea-Web Plugin (using IcedTea-Web 1.4pre+r6e622e87010e). Unfortunately the issue remains.
Please can anyone suggest me a way to overcome this issue. Currentely I have to use VirtualBox to run a browser in Windows (very very painful)!
A while back I did contact the bank, informing them of the issue was met with a simple "We dont support Linux".
    Cheers!
    J

  • Where can I find a proxy server for firefox?

I would like to try using a proxy. I've looked into it a bit before, but the sites where I found proxy addresses appeared pretty sketch. At one time I found a page on the firefox support site that named some suggested proxy websites, so I assume they are fairly safe. Trouble is, despite an hour of searching, I can't find that page again. Can anyone give me a link to that page? Or provide some suggestions regarding proxies? Thanks

I just want to use portal server and deploy some
applications written in JAVA. Have I made myself
    understood?
    Still not clear.
Do you want a server application that deploys software. For example you create a game. Someone logs into your "portal server" and downloads the game from that?
Or do you just want to know how to package a java app that you have already written, and then put it on a CD so someone can install that on their computer?

  • How can I find the latest update for Firefox 5 without upgrading to Firefox 6.0?

I had the latest version of Firefox 5 getting automatically upgraded to Firefox 6.0, which disabled my Java 6.022 and 6.023 plugin. Since updating my Java is not an option, because then I can't access my bank account, I uninstalled Firefox 6.0 and installed Firefox 5.0. I quickly cancelled and disabled the auto-update. Now I have no idea if this is the oldest or the latest version of Firefox 5, because the auto-update doesn't let me choose the latest version of Firefox 5 instead of Firefox 6.0. Is there a way to do this manually?

That are Java Console extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and not the Java plugin (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins).
You can uninstall and remove Java Console extensions, you do not need them to run Java applets.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions
You can also disable the Java Quick Starter extension: Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions
    * Control Panel -> Java -> Advanced tab -> Miscellaneous -> Java Quick Starter (disable)
    See:

  • Can I install the Flash Plugin for Firefox, and the Adobe Flash application program, on the same machine?

PC with Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    Firefox 33.1
Shockwave Flash 15.0.0.223 installed as a Firefox plug-in.
Everything performs perfectly, and I particularly like the fact that when I encounter a file (usually video) on the web, I can ACTIVATE ADOBE FLASH on a once-only basis, rather than ALWAYS FOR THIS SITE.
So here is my question. I encountered a .SWF file on the web, and played it through the plugin. I then downloaded the file to my desktop. From the desktop, there does not seem to be a way to play it through the Firefox Plug-in. Is this correct - am I missing something?
In order to play the file, do I need to install a copy of Shockwave Flash or Adobe Flash Player as a standalone application program on my machine? Is it OK to have both the standalone application and the Firefox plugin on one machine? By the way, I am not interested in using WMP as the player.
    Thanks
    Bill

VLC Player looks like a nice application, and it will play FLV files. However, it will not play .SWF files, which was the subject of my initial query. I admit that I am a little confused about the difference between .SWF and .FLV, since they are both called Flash files. My bad. I would love to find a standalone player that will handle both. Nothing fancy required - just play the file!
As a side note, I downloaded VLC Player from the link you suggested. It installed easily and worked well. However, a Google search reveals that there are a number of sources for corrupted versions of the player, which contain malware. Thank you, Fred, for a straight steer.

  • Running 10.4.11 I can not find the outdated plugins that Firefox keeps telling me I need. Apple Software Update doesn't help with this

I'm running 10.4.11 and am unable to find the plugin updates that Firefox keeps telling me I need on an annoying little popup window that keeps coming up whenever I download a page using Firefox. The pluin updates I need are for Quicktime, Java  to name a few. Is Apple not supplying any more plugin update because I'm using an old version of Mac OSX? The firefox plugin page tells me that Apple supppies their own plugins but I don't see any when I use Apple Software Update. Any suggestions?

Do what others do and get TenFourFox - the equivalent of the latest Firefox but built especially for PPC: http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
    To enable plug-ins:
Put about:config in TenFourFox's address bar and hit return
Put tenfourfox.plugins in the search box and hit return
Click tenfourfox.plugins.enabled to set it to true
    Restart TenFourFox
TenFourFox will now use the Safari Flash plug-in

  • Linux: Can't find linkable Gecko library for Firefox 3.6.22

Our servers are running Linux RHEL4 and currently running firefox 2.0.0.8. The environment has hundreds kiosks in support of a manufacturing line. Due to the security concern, we must upgrade to firefox 3.6.22. We've installed 3.6.22 on a test server and have hit a problem with a program that uses the Standard Widget Toolkit (SWT) component. We have been working on this for about a week now, and keep hitting "No more handles" errors as well as
"java: symbol lookup error: /tmp/swtBrowserTest/lib/libswt-mozilla-gtk-3235.so: undefined symbol: _ZN4nsID5ParseEPKc
". Based on this FAQ, http://www.eclipse.org/swt/faq.php#browserlinux. We believe Firefox 3.6.22 does not have a linkable Gecko library. We've also tried multiple version of the jre, no change.
How can we check for a linkable gecko library? Is there a test we can run to prove this?
If there is no linkable Gecko library, is this an issue with firefox 3.6.22? Are the any known or suggested workarounds?
The app runs fine when run against firefox 2, or against seamonkey...the only way we have problems is 3.6.22. Updating to a new version of Linux is not an option at this time.

As you have a Power Mac you also have a alternative option to consider which is a third-party build from http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2011/08/601-now-available.html

  • Where can i find the menu box for firefox

i am trying to play games on pogo some of them will not load. when i go to find out why it says go to foxfire menu and i cant find t. please help me thanks

What is the help article sending you to look at? This advice might be obsolete.
Anyway, there are two menus in Firefox 34:
    * Application menu you open using the "3-bar" menu button on the right end of the main toolbar. To compare with the old Firefox menu from Firefox 4-28, see [http://jeffersonscher.com/res/menu/comp.php this page].
    * Optional menu bar (File, Edit, View...) which you can display if you like using one of these methods:
** right-click a blank area of the tab bar > Menu Bar
** right-click the "+" button on the tab bar > Menu Bar
** tap the Alt key to display the bar temporarily, then View > Toolbars > Menu Bar
** Use the Customize feature to access the Show/Hide Toolbars button (see: [[Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars]])

  • How can I install the PnH plugin for firefox?

Hi, I'm actually trying to install the ca certificates for burp suite. There is another method outlined in the instructions but that involves going into the advanced options which... is not on newer versions of the browser?

The standard build of Firefox for Linux definitely has an Advanced panel in the Preferences dialog, here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences > Advanced > Certificates mini-tab
But... some builds may be different.

  • Where can i find setting in metadata for firefox

Metadata is the number or size of a web page, it will be from 70 to 160,

Try the Page Info dialog to see whether that has the information you need. Either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > General section
    * Tools menu > Page Info > General section
    Does the "Size" help?
Actually, I'm not sure how accurate that is; it might give you the wrong impression about how much was sent by the server when you loaded the page.
To see more detailed information about the sizes of all the components of the page, try the Network section of the Web Console. To open the Web Console, press Ctrl+Shift+k, then click Network on the toolbar, then reload the page.
