[Solved] Can't find usbnet module in stock kernel

Hi,
I was trying to get USB tethering to work, and found that I don't have the "usbnet" module. Pkgfile tells me that linux and linux-lts both provide usbnet, but I can't find the module (in /usr/lib/modules/...) at all (I'm on the 3.6.10-1 kernel, just reinstalled it from the repositories to make sure). I checked the file list of the 3.6.9-1 kernel that I had in pacman's cache, and the module wasn't there either. Does anyone know why I'm not getting this module with my kernel?
Last edited by Ploink (2012-12-29 16:00:42)

pacman -Ql linux | grep usbnet
linux /usr/lib/modules/3.6.10-1-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/usb/usbnet.ko.gz
Edit: oops, I see you said you checked the file list. Sorry, I typed faster than I read. If you do not get similar output to this, then the linux package isn't properly installed.

Also using Virtualbox here and was able to build the modules against the new kernel using this procedure:
Update kernel 31 --> 32
install kernel26-headers (seems to me you have the wrong kernel-headers package)
reboot
rebuild mkinitcpio (KMS)
reboot
rebuild vbox modules
modprobe them or reboot

• [SOLVED] Can't find root partition after upgrade

After upgrading to Linux 3.6.6, the boot fails with something like "can't find root, UUID=..." and I get a root shell. Choosing to recovery mode in GRUB doesn't make a difference.
I don't have any sda devices in /dev.
/proc/partitions is empty.
I have Macbook Pro 7,1.
Ubuntu on other partition works.
Any idea how to fix this?

I don't use these either ... but this does sound like a very plausible cause of this error. Are you sure you aren't using either?
In any case, it's easy enough to add them back and see if that solves this. Boot into live media, chroot, add back the modules to mkinitcpio.conf and rebuild the initramfs. If nothing else this would verify that these are not the problem.

• Can't find s:Module

Hi everyone:
I just can't find the <s:Module>, is there any chance to use <s:state> and <s:transitions> in <mx:module>
It is very strange..
thanks

Not everything is available at the moment in spark but over time more and more mx functionality will end up in the spark set. FB2 is much better at dealing with the mixing of mx and spark and this will keep improving as bugs are ironed out
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Module xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo" layout="absolute" width="400" height="300">
<fx:Declarations>
<s:Animate />
</fx:Declarations>
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
]]>
</fx:Script>
</mx:Module>
the above is the basic mx module it still will allow you to mix spark and mx, so yes you can use mix and match, the caveat being that at the moment you may run into some issues but thats what testing is all about. If you have any problems you can always put your code up for others to look at, if it is a compatibility issue then it can be listed as a bug.

Please help. Thank you!!

Hello,
That module is detailed here: http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/134/bc_1345.html - search for module_producfeaturelist
Specifically, the last parameter determines which layout it used. If it's set to true, the small product backup layout is used - and you can find that under Module templates - > Online Shop layouts. Or if you're using FTP, under Layouts->online shop.

This I guess.
If something else is missing, you can extract the installer, then run ldd on the files and install the multilib packages for all missing libraries, e.g.
LC_ALL=C find ~/Downloads/bricscad -type f -exec ldd "{}" + 2>/dev/null | grep found
to find the package for the file, you can use pkgfile (from extra). If you can't find it, search in the AUR for lib32-lib... (cower is good here for partial searches)

• [SOLVED] "Can't find a SQUASFS superblock on sda3"

Hey,
sorry but I've already searched the forums! There are similar problems but none fits mine.
I've just been trying to install Arch on my new Samsung Ultrabook. After I've partitioned my HDD with cfdisk I tried mounting the root partition by entering: mount /dev/sda3 /mnt. But I get this error:
[ 632.639059] SQUASHFS error: Cant' find a SQUASHFS superblock on sda3
[ 632.639316] EXT4-fs (sda3): VFS: Can't find ext4 filesystem

[ 632.642316] EXT4-fs (sda3): VFS: Can't find ext4 filesystem
After I created the partition table with GParted Live-CD, when I installed Windows 7 there was a partition of ~20GB at the end of the table which I deleted. Just in case this could be related to the error! But I don't think so...
Any ideas?
Cheers

When I bought the notebook there was Windows 8 installed it took me about an hour to figure out how to get to the BIOS menu. There is an option there where you're able to turn on UEFI, CS MOS or both.
I've never got in touch with this UEFI stuff before, so I can't really say what my hardware does or doesn't. I was just wondering if this partition could have been important, but since everything is running for now, I think not.
I created a MBR partition table to guard against future problems.

• Can rc.conf's MODULES detect which kernel I'm booting?

...because on one kernel I have some things compiled in that I want loaded by MODULES in another kernel.
Right now I either get "FATAL: Module not found" errors (and probably some time loss) when I specifiy the large set of modules and boot the kernel with compiled in stuff, or modules have to be loaded manually afterwards (making for an even larger time loss) when I specify the small set but launch the core kernel.
Weird setup?

Cerebral wrote:
Could you not just bugger around with rc.conf, something like:
[ "$(uname -s)" = "kernel26-ARCH" ] && MODULES=(module1 module2)
[ "$(uname -s)" = "kernel26-viper" ] && MODULES=(....)
Would that work?
It seems so:
[ "$(uname -r)" = "2.6.24-zen1-20080206" ] && MODULES=(...)
worked fine, and I haven't yet tried to boot the core kernel.
Thanks a lot for all your suggestions. It should be a smoother experience now.

• [Solved] Python: Creating AUR package, binary can't find python module

I'm building a PKGBUILD for PyLotRO for the AUR and I'm using a Debian package. I tried just copying the content of the data.tar.gz to the filesystem assuming the directory structure is the same for the packages but apparently it is not. At least I'm figuring this is a filesystem problem but I don't know enough about python to be sure. When I start the program, this is what I'm getting:
pylotro
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/pylotro", line 31, in <module>
import PyLotROLauncher.Runner
ImportError: No module named PyLotROLauncher.Runner
I can see the file in the package that (I would think) would be the responsible module:
/usr/share/pyshared/PyLotROLauncher/Runner.py
So I'm thinking the python package must store modules in a different location?????
The package requires: 4suite, python, and pyqt. Any thoughts about what do I need to do here??

• Satellite A210-10C PSAEGE: Can't find common module

I have this Toshiba laptop, and recently I've installed Windows Xp Pro SP3, but now I have some problems.
The biggest problem I have, is that some Fn keys do not work, such as brightness levels and enable/disable touchpad.
I found the drivers to windows xp here:
http://notebook.driversdown.com/ViewDownloadUrl.asp?ID=91653&brNum=3&show=0
But now I have other problem.
In order to install this driver I have to install common module (correct me if I am wrong).
The problem is I cant find any common module to my Toshiba.
Can anyone help me please?

Hi
You cannot find the Common Modules because the common modules hasnt been released for this notebook series.
Furthermore Toshiba driver page doesnt provide all XP drivers for this series and this would mean that you will be not able to use all FN buttons running Win XP.
Ive got a A210 with Win XP too and not all FN buttons work.
If you want you can try to install the Common Modules released for other A210 series but I doubt this application will be compatible. In my case it didnt work.

• [SOLVED] Can't load this module??

Ok, I discovered why I have no eth0 device. I have an
Nvidia MCP61 Ethernet card, according to lscpi -v
and no associated "Kernel" modules.
The necessary Ethernet driver for that Nvidia card is forcedeth
however
# modprobe forcedeth
FATAL: Module forcedeth not found.
but if I perform a systemwide find..
I get
/usr/lib/modules/3.6.2-1-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/nvidia/forcedeth.ko.gz
but according to 'man modprobe' the modprobe program looks in the /lib/modules/'uname -r' directory
and when I run
# uname -r
3.5.6-1-ARCH
I can cleary see why modprobe didn't work since according to the previous "find" there is no "forcedeth" in that directory.
so I tried
# modprobe -S 3.6.2-1-ARCH
Error: missing parameters. See -h.
to tell modprobe to search in that directory instead, but despite different variations I couldn't change the version sucessfully.
So instead I tried copying the "forcedeth.ko.gz" to the /lib/modules/3.5.6-1-ARCH directory
and I still haven't been able to "modprobe" it, even with full pathname and force option provided.
So, in summation, I had the driver in the wrong directory according to 'uname -r' and thus I couldn't
load it. I tried to manually give modprobe a different kernel version, without sucess, and have tried
copying forcedeth.ko.gz to the directory which corresponded to /lib/modules/'uname -r'.
I guess I need to either
- upgrade the kernel without an internet connection?
- sucessfully modprobe forcedeth despite the kernel version conflict?
- maybe throw a symbolic link somewhere?
- give an explicit option to define a full path in a config file?
- do something with mkinitcpio that can specify that module and boot into that ramdisk?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, since I don't know how else to load the module.
If any other info on my system might give a lead, I'd be more than happy to provide it. Thanks. I'm almost there...

ok, did and done. (However, note that this isn't raw code since I have to type from display of the monitor to the laptop.)

According to file, I do have the latest kernel, which makes this even more peculiar since it isn't consistent with 'uname -r'
3.5.6-1-ARCH
and I'm using grub legacy, I think.
# cat /boot/grub/menu.1st
